  • refactoring my code. My headers (Header Guard Issues)

    I had a post similar to this awhile ago based on a error I was getting. I was able to fix it but since then I been having trouble doing things because headers keep blocking other headers from using code. Honestly, these headers are confusing me and if anyone has any resources that will address these types of issues, that will be helpful. What I essentially want to do is be able to have rModel.h be included inside RenderEngine.h. every time I add rModel.h to RenderEngine.h, rModel.h is no longer able to use RenderEngine.h. (rModel.h has a #include of RenderEngine.h as well). So in a nutshell, RenderEngine and rModel need to use each others functionalities.     Recently I had faced very interesting situation. Due to some reason we were not able to login into the production server for one of client. The reason for the same was that server was very busy, we had to login into the system and bring server to normal situation. When all the attempts failed, I decided to login using Dedicated Administrator Connection (DAC). However when I attempted to connect using DAC it threw following error for me. C:\Users\pinald>sqlcmd -A -d master -S .\SQLEXPRESS Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 11.0 : SQL Server Network Interfaces: An error occurred while obtaining the dedicated administrator connection (DAC) port. Make sure that SQL Browser is running, or check the error log for t he port number [xFFFFFFFF]. .Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 11.0 : Login timeout expired.Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 11.0 : A network-related or instance-specific error has occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. Server is not found or not accessible. Check if instance name is correct and if SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. For more information see SQL Server Books Online. I was bit taken a back as I knew that my commands are correct to login and if DAC does not work, there should be some serious reason for it. When inquired further about the SQL Server version I learned that it was SQL Server Express version deployed. To conserve resources, SQL Server Express does not listen on the DAC port. There is an additional step to be done if SQL Server Express has to be used with DAC. Enable TRACEFLAG on SQL Server Express will enable the connection by DAC possible. Here is the quick methods how one can enable DAC on SQL Server Express. Go to Start >> All Program >>Microsoft SQL Server (your version) >> Configuration Tools >> SQL Server Configuration Manager. Click on SQL Server Services >> Select your SQL Server Express version >> Right Click Properties >> select Startup Parameters Once on the Startup Parameter add the Startup parameter which is TRACEFLAG -T7806. Click on OK and RESTART SQL Server Express edition. Now once again try to connect to SQL Server Express edition and it will work just fine. This is absolutely documented method on BOL and SQL Server Express needs to be restarted.   • Using a Visual Sourcesafe 2005 database with VB6 still launches VSS 6.0d

    I know all versions of VSS have many horror stories and I feel I will escape to a better source control mechanism someday but in the short term I am just trying to do a little cleanup and would like your advice on this issue: Objective - consolidate old VB6 source code in a "new" VSS 2005 database (currently all these old projects are checked in to an "old" VSS 6.0d database); eventually, eliminate the "old" VSS. Progress so far - The new VSS 2005 database now contains a mixture of projects. Some are using Visual Studio 2008, some use Vstudio 2005, and the more recently added ones are the above mentioned VB6 projects. Individually all these projects and "solutions" come up OK, I can check in - check out, launch SourceSafe, view differences, etc. But all the VB6 projects now in a VSS 2005 database launch VSS 6.0d when asked, rather than VSS 2005. Is this normal and just something to cope with until I get to some better nonVSS approach? Or can VB6 be re-configured someway to launch VSS 2005 when I click Tools-SourceSafe-Run SourceSafe? I seem to recall VSS 6.0d got "integrated" into VB6 by way of the "Add-In Manager". At this point, the development PC with VB6 installed has both VSS 2005 and VSS 6.0d clients installed.

    SO i have a server running windows server 2008 r2 and i just installed Microsoft sql server 2008. I used the manager thing to create the database and the tables, etc and now i want to connect to it via my visual studio which is on a different machine. so how do i do that? do i need to "turn on" the sql server, do i need to do port forwarding? do i have to modify the iis or change those settings? is there a good article someone can me point me to? just to further help you help me, i understand how to connect to a datasource in visual studio my problem is more with the sql server and understanding how to properly set it up once installed. Sorry for the noob question, i got it all installed and i know how to use it once its all going i just don't know the in-between. thanks in advance dave

I'm working with another developer on a project and it's getting annoying having to have 2 different version of web.config because he is using SQL Server 2008 and (local) works, but I can't seem to get it to work with SQL Server 2008 Express locally.   • wuinstall doesn't work with winrs

    I've been having issues with psexec so I've been migrating to use winrs (part of the winrm system). It's a very nice remoting tool which is proving to be more reliable then psexec. Wuinstall is used to install available windows updates. The two however don't play well together. I'm working on a verity of windows servers 2003, 2008 and 2008r2. Wuinstall behaves the same across all hosts and behaves as expected if executed locally by the same user.   • Supermicro IPMI on MBD-X8DAH+-F-O motherboard. Keyboard and mouse do not work after booting Windows Server 2008 R2

    Hell Everyone, I built a server with the mentioned motherboard. I installed Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise on this server. IPMI is integrated on the motherboard with its own dedicated NIC. I've got that NIC configured with its own IP address. I can remote into it using IPMI, and I can remotely control the server settings before booting the OS ( BIOS, RAID configuration, etc). When the OS boots, I lose the mouse and keyboard. I cannot use the keyboard or mouse when installing the OS either. So the Keyboard and Mouse only work when no OS is loaded. Once the OS loads I lose it - that is my problem. I've been doing some research and trying a few things, but I have not been successful in fixing this issue. I may be wrong, but based on the things I've found online, it seems that the problem could be caused by the way the OS handles USB. The server is headless. There is no keyboard, mouse, or monitor plugged into it. When I boot up the OS and remote into it, I cannot see a mouse or keyboard listed in the Device Manager. Based on what I've read, it seems that the OS should detect a mouse and a keyboard when connecting remotely via IPMI. The following are the solutions I've tried. Nothing has worked so far: I've updated the firmware of the IPMI component to the latest firmware - 1.33. I made sure that the mouse mode was set to Absolute (Windows OS). I've loaded the factory defaults several times. I've enabled Port64h/60h Emulation under the USB settings in the BIOS. I've disabled USB legacy support in the BIOS. I made sure the firewall wasn't blocking IPMI (disabled the firewall). And that's about it. I've found threads in some forums from people having the same issue as me, but they were not running the same OS. They were either running Linux or FreeBSD. Most of them fixed their problem by selecting the right mouse mode (Linux in their case). There was one other that solved the problem by disabling USB Mass Storage mode. He stated "When I set it to disable USB Mass Storage when no image is loaded, the ukbd came alive, and I'm typing this on the IPMI Console.     Everytime I try to debug one of my apps I get the below error message. Anyone have any ideas? I tried running Visual Studio in safe mode but I get the same thing. I also tried to repair the install and completely reinstall it with no luck :(.   • Displaying Many-To-Many Database relationship in VB.NET 2008 with DataGrid, MS SQL 2008

    Computer bombed while posting this, couldnt find a duplicate question but if there is one, forgive me. So, I've run into a wall. And rather than use a ladder to avoid it, I'd like go through it. I'm setting up what I can best describe as a many-to-many relationship in a database. To examplify, imagine I have three primary tables: Items, Categories, Sections(nevermind the potential redundancy) Then I have another table, Properties. Items, Categories, and Sections can be associated with many properties. A single property can be associated with one, all, or none of the other tables. The best way I can figure to do this is to have join tables make the relationship. i.e. tblItems----(Foreign Key)----tblItems_To_Properties----(Foreign Key)----tblProperties In this example, tblItems simply has an "ItemID" Primary Key. tblItems_To_Properties has its own Primary Key(tblItems_To_PropertiesID), a Foreign Key to the Item(ItemID) and a Foreign key to the Property(PropertyID). The Properties table simply has its primary key(PropertyID) I hope this example isnt too confusing...if I have to I can find a way to put a diagram up or something. My problem is, I want to display this in a DataGrid using the Master-Detail method(DevExpress GridControl). I use the tblItems as a test, and I can see the Items in the parent view, but in the child view I see(understandably) the join table and that is it. My goal is to make it so the Grid ignores the join table and shows the Properties table as the only child. Any help on this method or insight into another solution would be muuuuuuuch appreciat

  • Why is my DB read-only when attached to SQL Express, but not with SQL Web?

    I have an .mdf/.ldf pair, originally created in 2008 R2 Standard, and well under 10GB, with ACLs: d:\db snapshot\DB_NAME.mdf SERVERNAME\SQLServerMSSQLUser$ACCOUNT$MSSQLSERVER:F OWNER RIGHTS:F BUILTIN\Administrators:F d:\db snapshot\DB_NAME_log.ldf SERVERNAME\SQLServerMSSQLUser$ACCOUNT$MSSQLSERVER:F OWNER RIGHTS:F BUILTIN\Administrators:F When I attach the database to an instance of SQL Express 2008 R2, it comes up as read-only. When exactly the same acls and user-accounts and SQLCMD statements are set up with SQL Web 2008 R2, it comes up writable. I looked at MSDN's comparison page but nothing jumped out at me. Why on earth is this happening? Thanks! UPDATE I just noticed that the name of the attached databases are different. On SQL Express (read-only) it matches the filename (e.g. DB_NAME); on SQL Web (writable) it matches the CUSTOM_NAME that I gave it in the attach command: CREATE DATABASE [CUSTOM_NAME] ON (FILENAME = 'PATH_TO_MDF'), (FILENAME = 'PATH_TO_LDF') FOR ATTACH

    I've installed freeSSHd on a Windows Server 2008 box (following the instructions in How to install an SSH Server in Windows Server 2008), including: created a user named "dspitzer" with NTLM authorization opened an exception for port 22 in the Windows Firewall But when I try to connect (from a Mac OS X 10.5.8 command-line), I get permission denied after entering the password: $ ssh 12.34.56.78 [email protected]'s password: Permission denied, please try again. [email protected]'s password: Permission denied, please try again. [email protected]'s password: Received disconnect from 12.34.56.78: 2: Too many attempts. I've also tried: $ ssh [email protected] [email protected]'s password: Permission denied, please try again. [email protected]'s password: Permission denied, please try again. [email protected]'s password: Received disconnect from 12.34.56.78: 2: Too many attempts. I've also tried changing the authorization to "Password stored as SHA1 hash" and entering a simple password, but I get the same problem. And I've tried a different user name ("Administrator") with no luck. I've confirmed that I am connecting to the server I'm configuring—if I stop freeSSHd and try to connect I get: $ ssh 12.34.56.78 ssh: connect to host 12.34.56.78 port 22: Operation timed out I get the exact same results from a Linux command-line.
