• Simple HTTP Framework and time issue

  I'm using Simple Framework for my recent project, and there is a problem with the date headers generated by the system. I can get my local time from Date class correctly, but setDate method of Simple's Response class sets date in milliseconds and when i do that by calling System.currentTimeInMillis, dates in response headers are incorrect. is there any way to solve this problem with Simple Framework? If not, what can i do except calling set method with a date string? Thanks in advance... EDIT: Date in the headers are in wrong timezone. And i also tried Calendar.getInstance().getTimeInMilis() method.

• Netbeans jar file icon problems

  I finally found how to make an exe project in Netbeans, so a jar file and execute it from the DESKTOP. The only problem I have ocurred is that after I open the jar file and login with my username and password the button icons are not shown, if I put a string it appears but if I put the image it doesn't appear. So,I had to restore this code: JButton btnNew = new JButton(new ImageIcon("new.gif")); JButton btnUpdate = new JButton(new ImageIcon("NotePad.gif")); JButton btnDelete = new JButton(new ImageIcon("delete.gif")); JButton btnSearch = new JButton(new ImageIcon("find.gif")); and put this one: JButton btnNew = new JButton("ADD"); JButton btnUpdate = new JButton("Update"); JButton btnDelete = new JButton("Delete"); JButton btnSearch = new JButton("Search"); It now works but I would like to have the icons please. Any idea?

• Google Toolbox For Mac with Core Data on iPhone results in error

  I have set up my project for using Google Toolbox for Mac as described on official wiki. And everything is working as expected. For core data usage I have created a 'database' class that uses for final application SQLite storage (this is done based on Xcode template code). For unit tests I have created separate init method for 'database' to use in memory storage (storage url is [NSURL URLWithString:@"memory://store"] and type NSInMemoryStoreType). Without adding my model file (*.xcdatamodel) to unit tests target, test fail in expected place with message: executeFetchRequest:error: A fetch request must have an entity. If I add model file to the test target, then test is executed as expected (core data part looks OK), but after tests execution I get: RunIPhoneUnitTest.sh: line 123: 9487 Segmentation fault "$TARGET_BUILD_DIR/$EXECUTABLE_PATH" -RegisterForSystemEvents Command /bin/sh failed with exit code 139 This problem does not looks directly related to core data, but only happens if model file is added to target. Any pointers on resolving this issue would be appreciated!

• Generating JavaDoc style documentation

  Hi all, I would like to generate a report similar to JavaDoc so that you can real easily click on a test, result, and source. I am running HtmlUnit tests so I will have the result (html), source (request, headers, parameters, etc.), stack trace all visible so a developer or qa can go back later to review this to see what went awry. So, in the left frame, the tests will be listed along with the group they were a part of (similar to packages in javadoc). In the right frame, the results will be presented along with the source and stack trace. How can I achieve this? The HtmlUnit tests are part of the project and not a stand-alone plugin if that matters. Thanks, Walter

• Chart Control Inside SSRS ReportViewer is Viewable From Localhost But Not Internet

  A project I own was just moved from an older server to a new one, and in the process of moving the web folder, re-deploying the SSRS reports, restoring the database, configuring IIS, etc... I have lost the ability to view the Microsoft Chart Controls that are embedded in the SSRS reports, that are then displayed by a Microsoft.ReportViewer. I could view them both locally and remotely (via the internet) on the old server. I can view them if I preview the SSRS report in Visual Studio. The report displays fine, only missing all the embedded charts. I can still view them locally through the web browser, just not from the internet. What am I missing? I tried giving permissions to the ChartImageHandler temp storage folder, but it didn't work. I'm getting the Javascript error: Error: ClientReport380ec8ca0c294a809e9986c1bef9db1c is undefined

• How to introduce custom primitive key types to WCF Data Services (Astoria)

  Hello. We use custom type to represent Identifiers in our project. It has TypeConvertor attached and it always helped with serialization. I've tried to use WCF Data Services to expose some data from our system, but faced a problem. Astoria framework do not recognize class as an entity even though I've decorated it with [DataServiceKey("Id")] attribute. If I change type of property to Guid - it totally works :(. How could teach WCF Data Services to understand this simple class?

• Using one LINQ statement with different parameters

  I have a pretty complex linq statement I need to access for different methods. Each of these methods may need to see the resulting data with different parameters. For one method it may be a project code, for another it may be language. The statement is pretty much the same it's just the where part which changes. I have not been able to figure out how to use different where statements without duplicating the entire linq statement, and that just isn't dry enough for me. For example (greatly simplified): var r = from c in customer where c.name == "some name" // or it may be var r = from c in customer where c.customerId == 8 Is there a way to have both of these in the same statement so I can use one or the other based on what I am doing? I tried an if statement to use one of the where statements or the other, and that didn't go over very well.

• Is it good practice to call module functions directly in VB.NET?

  I have a Util module in my VB.NET program that has project-wide methods such as logging and property parsing. The general practice where I work seems to be to call these methods directly without prefixing them with Util. When I was new to VB, it took me a while to figure out where these methods/functions were coming from. As I use my own Util methods now, I can't help thinking that it's a lot clearer and more understandable to add Util. before each method call (you know immediately that it's user-defined but not within the current class, and where to find it), and is hardly even longer. What's the general practice when calling procedures/functions of VB modules? Should we prefix them with the module name or not?

  HI,all I am trying to install an app in the iphone using the adhoc build configuration for this i have made all the things first i created the app id that is enable fort he APNS and then create the profile and certificates and than i download to my system and then in the project i have made a plist name Adhoc_Entitlements.plist and in the code signing entitlements i put it name with extension and in the bundle identifier i put the name of the identifier that is used in the provision file and when i try to install in the device it throws the error i have mentioned,Any solution or anything that i am doing wrong.This is the error message i got when i try to install in the device. • Auto generate SWF in Flex SDK

  I'm building my first website with AS3, and I'm using Flash Builder 4 to create/edit my AS classes. I have two .fla files (preloader.fla and portfolio.fla) which I both published as .swc and loaded them into my ActionScript project in FB4 (build path). When I hit debug, FB4 automatically generates a .SWF in bin-debug folder called Preloader.swf, but in my Preloader.as I have new URLRequest("Portfolio.swf"); and this Portfolio.swf isn't being generated by itself. Now the real question; how can I tell FB4 to automatically create both .SWF files for me? Or isn't that possible, any workaround then? Thanks.

As far as I can tell: Controller: deals with routing requests View: deals with presentation of data Model: looks a whole lot like a Data Access layer Where does the Business Logic go? Take a large enterprise application with: Several different sources of data (WCF, WebServices and ADO) tied together in a data access layer (useing multiple different DTOs). A lot business logic segmented over several dlls. What is an appropriate way for an MVC web application to sit on top of this (in terms of code and project structure)? The example I have seen where everything just goes in the Model folder don't seem like they are appropriate for very large applications. Thanks for any advice!

• How do I check out Eclipse projects from CVS using the command line

  Hi. I'm trying to check out the Mylyn project from Eclipse. However, I can't use Eclipse to check out the projects and am having to do it via the command line. I'm behind a firewall so am basing my attempt on http://wiki.eclipse.org/CVS_Howto#CVS_and_firewalls. I'm not very familiar with CVS. • How to install ferret gem on Windows 7 ?

  Hi, I was trying to run an OpenSource project which requires ferret to be installed. While installing it using gem install ferret, it's giving this error - Building native extensions. This could take a while... ERROR: Error installing ferret: ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension. C:/Ruby/bin/ruby.exe extconf.rb creating Makefile nmake 'nmake' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Gem files will remain installed in C:/Ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/ferret-0.11.6 for inspection. Results logged to C:/Ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/ferret-0.11.6/ext/gem_make.out So, I tried installing nmake (nmake15.exe), but the one I could find. It does not installs on Windows 7.Please help. • my windows forms application throws filenotfoundexception when run on another machine

  Hi, I have created a windows forms application using vs2008. when i copy the bin folder over to another machine and try to run it the applicaiton throws a filenotfoundexception error. Ive looked at the references files used in the project and each file points to either c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727... c:\Program Files\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\v3.5... c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Visual Basic Power Packs\1.1... i have verified that these directories exist on the other machines that cause the error. the two machines that i have tried it on and that throw there error are Windows XP WITHOUT VS2008 installed and Windows 7 with VS2008 installed I tried on two machine that DID work which are Windows XP with VS2008 and and my development machine Windows 7 with VS2008 Could anyone provide me with some insight on this issue Thanks

  Hi I need to segment text using fullstops using PHP/Javascript.The problem is if I use "." to split text then abbreviations , date formatting (12.03.2010 ) or urls as well split-ed , which I need to prevent.There are many such possibilities , I might not be able to imagine. How to recognize that the "." is used as fullstop and nothing else ? When I googled I found about SRX http://www.lisa.org/fileadmin/standards/srx20.html , is any opensource PHP project segment text using these rules ? • Are there any good Java API for facebook?

  I've played around a bit with twitter4j and found it absolutely wonderful. Now I've been looking into the equivalent for facebook but so far haven't had much luck finding a decent project. I looked into facebook-java-api but it appears that they break their API from release to release. I consider this unacceptable. I'm currently playing around a bit with RestFB and the API seems decent so far but I've been having some connection problems. I'm just looking for a simple library that lets me post status updates, send direct messages and get a list of friends through minimal coding effort. Has anyone had any success using a java API for facebook and if so, what are you using? Thanks.

  I'm newish to the python ecosystem, and have a question about module editing. I use a bunch of third-party modules, distributed on PyPi. Coming from a C and Java background, I love the ease of easy_install <whatever>. This is a new, wonderful world, but the model breaks down when I want to edit the newly installed module for two reasons: The egg files may be stored in a folder or archive somewhere crazy on the file system. Using an egg seems to preclude using the version control system of the originating project, just as using a debian package precludes development from an originating VCS repository. What is the best practice for installing modules from an arbitrary VCS repository? I want to be able to continue to import foomodule in other scripts.

  Install Shield Premier 2009: Basic MSI Project I have a dll that is supposed to be removed during uninstall. But this dll is being used by explorer.exe, it is used for generating windows explorer context menus with their icons(same as the menu items, icons we see when we right click on any file/folder and see the WinRAR items, icons). Manually, I have to unregister the dll and close explorer.exe from task manager and again run explorer.exe. Then I can delete the dll. So from Install Shield how to delete this dll without any problem(as we see while uninstalling WinRAR or other software there is no problem no message boxes shown and the related context menu icons also removed).

• Can I create object names from a text file in Python 2.7?

  I'm working on a game project. I've created an object, Star(Object). I want to assign the name of the variables, dynamically, from a text file. If I have a text file with: Sol Centauri Vega I want the program to create the Star(Object) with variable names from the text file. I want the process automated, because I'm looking to create hundreds of stars. I could write the code out by hand: Sol = Star(Sol) Centauri = Star(Centauri) Vega = Star(Vega) But isn't there a way to automate this? Essentially, what I eventually want is a tuple with the list of stars, as their own objects. Then, when I am doing game maintenance, I can just iterate over all the objects in the tuple.

• VS 2010 Layer Diagram Validation Error is Showing A Dependency That Doesn't Even Exist (AV0001)

  I'm getting the following validation error on my layer diagram Error 65 AV0001 : Invalid Dependency : Weld.Interface.Core(Assembly) -- Weld.Interface(Namespace) Layers: Application Framework Core, Application Framework | Dependencies: Namespace Reference D:\Projects\Windows Projects\Weld\Weld\ModelingProject1\Weld.layerdiagram 0 0 ModelingProject1 Weld.Interface.Core: This assembly and namespace does not have a reference to Weld.Interface and only references .NET Framework classes Weld.Interface: This assembly and namespace does not have a reference to Weld.Interface There is no dependancy between these two layers in the dependency diagram. I am confused why I am getting this error. No dependency in the project or code, and no dependency is even setup in the layer diagram. Somehow the Validation logic in the layer diagram is seeing a non existant dependency and saying it is an error. Any ideas what either I might have missed or what is causing this problem?

• Silverlight Cream Monday WP7 App Review # 1

  I'm going to try something here... if it seems useful, I'll continue, if it doesn't, I'll stop... so give me feedback! There are *lots* of Apps in the WP7 Marketplace, and heaven help me, but the Marketplace sucks for finding stuff. I won't rehash what's already been said in the blogs, but I agree with one and all. I went out last Saturday to find 2 apps that I knew were released, and couldn't do so on my device. Even in the Zune app, it took quite a while to find them... ok, I'll back off a bit, because I just found out I can do 'Search' now if I know the name... I didn't think that was working before. So my thought is on Monday (like today), I will post a review of 5 apps/games I either use or have played with on my device. These are strictly my opinions, you understand, but hey... it's better than a poke in the eye with an iPhone! A few disclaimers:     Feel free to write me about your app and tell me about it. While it would be very cool to receive a whole bunch of xap files to review, at this point, for technical reasons, I'm unable to side-load my device. Since I plan on only doing this one day a week, and only 5, I may never get caught up, so if you send me some info, be patient. Re: games ... remember I'm old... I'm from the era of Colossal Cave and Zork. Duke-Nukem 2D and Captain Comic were awesome. I don't own an XBOX or any other game system, so take game reviews from my perspective -- who knows, it may be refreshing :) I won't pay for an app or game just to try it. If you expect me to test-drive your app, it's going to have to have a Free Trial. In this Issue:   Jingo! is the first app I bought, just to see what the experience was like. It's very much like a game we used to play in school in the Army in 1971 on paper we passed around. Sort of a cross between hangman and Mastermind, you try to figure out the hidden word in 5 tries. You get really good at 5-letter words after a while. I like this because you have to think, and you're not pressured by a clock Jingo! is by James Furdell and is $1.99 I reviewed René Schulte's Pictures Lab a while back, and have not changed my mind. This is an excellent app for playing with any photo on your device... one you've just taken, one you've synced from your PC, or one you've saved from email. I like this because you can get some cool effects for your photos, and it just works. Pictures Lab is by Schulte Software Development and is $1.99 Since I work as a consultant, and from home, I wanted something I could track my time with. I've test-driven all the contenders I could find so far on the phone, and so far I like ONTRACK! the best. If asked, I have some suggestions, but it's probably just the way I work or think. What I do like is I can tap a project to start/stop/restart a counter, and at the end of the day it shows me how much time I've been working. If there's a way to make an adjustment in case you forget to tap the counter, I don't know how to do it, and that's my biggest complaint. I like this because you can get a daily readout which you can also email as a spreadsheet. The daily results display is very good. ONTRACK! is by Qmino and is $2.99 Remember Item 4 above... I've been playing guitar for 48 years... obviously since before the invention of 'tuners', so I'm not as dependent upon these as some folks are. I've tried some in the past and have always felt I can do just as good by ear (I have perfect relative pitch). So, I gave this app by András Velvárt a dance just to see how it works, and it is surprisingly good. If you're used to one of the stage tuners this may take a little getting used to, but it does the job. The difference with this one is there is no real 'null' point inside which you can think your guitar is in tune. The soundwave stays visible on the device, and if it's moving to the right, your string is flat, if it's moving to the left, your string is sharp. Getting it exact might be tricky, but it is exact! If you need to rely on a tuner, this is a good choice in my opinion, exactly because of the sensitivity.. tune up with this and you're dead-on. Guitar Tuner is by Kinabalu Innovation Limited and is $0.99 Popper 2 is the WP7 version of a wildly popular game by Bill Reiss named Dr. Popper. You can get a trial, or you can now get a free lite version of the game. Popper 2 is a fast-paced bubble breaker game. I find it something fun to play when I just want to buzz out, but maybe the best review is that my daughter didn't want to give my phone back when I showed it to her, and always wants to grab my phone to play 'that game'. • Are there macro facility for Java or C#?

  Macros are useful. Therefore, I occasionally bemoan the absence of macros in Java and C#. Macros allow me to force in-line but allow me the code-manageability of non-macro code. Is there any Java- or C#-based project/product somewhere out there that effectively allow macros or specifying in-line expansion. I am thinking of something like @macro public void hello(int x){ ... } or when I call a method, an @inline annotation preceding the call would effect the called-method to be in-lined. or, should I need to know that I should just trust the compiler to make the best the decision for me that at the best of its analysis it might in-line a call. I hope this question will not lead to debating the pro/cons/usefulness of macros.
