• setup Qt and PyQt on mac osx so my app can also deployable on windows

  Hi, I've been coding with Python and C++ and now need to work on building a gui for data visualization purposes. I work on Mac Snow Leopard (intel), python 3.1 using gcc 4.2.1 (from Xcode 3.1) I wanted to first install Qt and then PyQt. And my goals are to be able to: - quickly prototype GUI and the accompanied logic that drives the GUI using PyQt and python - if I decided I need the speed, or if it's fairly easy to translate my GUI into C++ using the Qt tools, I have the options to translate my app into C++ - Be able to deploy my application onto Windows (both the python and c++ version of my app) Give the goals above, what are the correct steps I should take and what issues i should be aware of when setting up Qt and PyQt. Which other deployment tools do I need? From my readings so far, here's what I have: download the Qt source for mac and configure it with -platform macx-g++42 -arch x86_64 -no-framework (i've read somewhere that building as framework causes some trouble in deployment and/or debugging, can't find the article anymore) download latest SIP source and build download latest PyQt and build from source (any special options I should pay attention to?) For deployment, I've read that I would need to use py2exe/cx_freeze for windows, p2app for mac: http://arstechnica.com/open-source/guides/2009/03/how-to-deploying-pyqt-applications-on-windows-and-mac-os-x.ars but seems like what the article describe is deploying an app you build on windows on the windows platform and vice versa. How do you deploy to windows (is it even possible?) if you are writing your Qt app on a mac ? Really appreciate the help

• Android: Associating Browser to File Type in App

  I'm attempting to write a simple app that associates a file type to the browser; this is assuming the browser will open the file locally... If this doesn't work, the local file - editor will be fine. I have an option of auto-mailing .ELC files from a custom app, they are basically html formatted TEXT or TXT only files; I would like to associate the .elc extension so that it will open direct from mail rather than just "Save to SD Card" as a mail option. • issue with keychain and updates from app store

  I am having a very frustrating error. I have tested for an app upgrade by first installing the previous version (1.0.1) and then running version (1.0.2). Everything worked fine. I submitted the app and then I am getting issues people are getting crashes when they upgrade. I tried doing the same thing, which is installing the 1.0.1 and then install the binary on the app store, then it crashed. • Can't login to Manager App in Tomcat 6.0.18

  Folks, I can't login to the manager app (localhost:8080/manager/html) in my Tomcat. More specifically, it asks for my username and password, and the ones supposed to be correct aren't accepted. Here's what I already checked: I tried editing my conf/tomcat-users.xml to add my user/role. Here's the current content of this file: <?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?> <tomcat-users> <role rolename="manager"/> <user username="tomcat" password="s3cret" roles="manager"/> </tomcat-users> I thought that maybe it wasn't looking up on this XML, but elsewhere.   Microsoft released an update for Windows 7 today: KB980408: The April 2010 stability and reliability update for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 is available. The update fixes, among other things: Windows Explorer may stop responding for 30 seconds when a file or a directory is created or renamed after certain applications are installed. i'm not experiencing it on my own Windows 7 machine, but two colleagues at work were experiencing the problem. i would really like to know what applications were causing problems. Microsoft will never call out the misbehaving applications. i want to know what software i should be ridiculing and insulting. And avoid in the future. Did anyone who was experiencing this problem isolate the applications?

  The Finder column view preview pane and QuickLook stretch many of my photos. But when I open the same photos in Preview.app, they look normal. Screenshot: For example, download this image (reaver.jpg), and view it with Finder's column view. Now view it with QuickLook. It renders correctly in every other application, so there's something going wrong in how QuickLook/Finder get the image dimensions. This problem started happening in either Mac OS X 10.8.1 or 10.8.2. • Failing Sata HDD

  I think my HDD is fried... Could someone confirm or help me restore it? I was using Hardware RAID 1 Configuration [2 x 160GB SATA HDD] on a CentOS 4 Installation. All of a sudden I started seeing bad sectors on the second HDD which stopped being mirrored.   hi i have an iphone 2g firmware 3.1.3 ifone is jailbroken have install0us and appcake on it. i have downloaded tunein radio version 1.4 from apptrckr. it installed fine but i cannot open it. i wuold click on it, it would start i mean for like 1 second, then just close. i dont know whats wrong with it. can some please help me. i have kill sb on it, which restarts the spring board. i tried turning it off n back on again. deleted and re-installed. deleted it and turnt ifone off and back on, then re-installed it. it doesn't seem 2 work at all. any one know what 2 do. mind it is a cracked app. thankz..!!

• Created new torrent but client unable to find seeds

  I tried creating a new torrent, using uTorrent, following the directions from torrentfreak (http://torrentfreak.com/how-to-create-a-torrent/). I used a bunch of trackers (just in case any individual one was having troubles) and uTorrent shows it as "seeding" with 100% of the file. It shows: seeds 0(1), peers 0(0). http://exodus.desync.com/announce http://eztv.tracker.prq.to/announce http://open.tracker.thepiratebay.org/announce http://www.torrent-downloads.to:2710/announce http://denis.stalker.h3q.com:6969/announce udp://denis.stalker.h3q.com:6969/announce http://www.sumotracker.com/announce I've also attempted to remove the torrent and then re-add the torrent, pointing it to my already existing files, forcing uTorrent to recheck the files and then begin seeding. Yet when I share the .torrent file with my other computer and attempt to download, it is unable to find any peers or seeds. To confirm that both clients are working, I downloaded a torrent on both computers, using their respective clients, using torrents I found on isohunt. This tells me that there must be something wrong in how I'm creating my torrents. Any help is appreciated.

• Options for a site-specific-browser app

  I would like to have our intranet site accessed through Firefox or Chrome, rather than IE. However we don't want users having access to any other internet sites apart from our intranet, unless they are using IE. I notice that Chrome has what they called 'Hosted Apps' and there is a Firefox spinoff called Prism. Does anyone know whether either of these are suitable? Can you install a Chrome hosted app without giving the user access to other sites through Google Chrome? What about Prism? Are these products stable?

• Recovering OS X Mail Accounts Lost in Crash

  I had a hard crash on my Mac PowerBook and when I restarted, Mail came up with only my MobileMe account still available and I cannot figure out how to restore the other eight email accounts I have. The directories in ~/Library/Mail all seem to be there. I even did an rsync of the modified .plist files from a TimeMachine backup of the directory from before the crash (unfortunately, I was on travel, so the backup is more than a week old and I'd like to try and recover from that point without having to entirely restore from TimeMachine). I also did a fix permissions. So my questions are where exactly is the account information for Mac Mail kept? Any thoughts of what might have caused the failure? Why does only MobileMe come up? Any other thoughts on how to fix things?

• OS X Server App ail not accept login credentials

  I cannot login to the server app and i know for sure all the login info is right. every time i enter my password the name window shakes to tell me it's invalid. I never post unless I'm out of ideas and I need it to be up so I can host my splash page tonight. i've spoken with "certified apple" specialists at some local mac stores and they are stumped too. Something is going on with the apache server, that's all i know for sure. I'll be monitoring this closely so any requests for info, etc. can be filled instantly. Thanks in advance. here's a few things i've noticed: I can ssh successfully into the server address as both root and admin. I've been fussing with the workgroup manager and could use guidance if that's where the problem lies. console shows this message repeatedly (org.apache.httpd[1890]) Exited with code: 1). • Is a simple iPhone app more appealing to users than a mobile website?

  My client wants to do an iPhone app because she's found that people are significantly more likely to use the iPhone app over a mobile optimized site. The iPhone app is very simple - it just displays a couple images and some text. As a programmer I'd much rather do a mobile site given the simple nature of the content. From a technical perspective I feel that it's overkill to use an iPhone app in this situation. Does it make sense to build an iPhone when a mobile site would suffice, simply because your users would much rather it be an iPhone app? Is there anyway to easily convince users that a mobile site is just as easy to use?

  Hi, I am using Apple Mail on Snow Leopard. It seems to use excessive data, around 1.5 GB a day. I don't receive mails remotely close to that size obviously. Does anybody have any idea what's happening. Its very consistent. Turn Mail off, and the download goes away. Much appreciated.

  I am interested to know which Linux file system is best for hosting Zope's Object Database (Data.fs) and Plone.app.blob (blobstorage). Various reviews from the Internet suggests that XFS is good for hosting both. XFS is fast and works well with large files. Anyone using XFS for Zope or Plone? What optimization flags, if any, do you use for XFS? Note that this is a repost. I originally asked this on StackOverflow and was given a suggestion to post on Severfault instead.

After Leopard came out Terminal got several improvements, like supporting tabs and implementing profiles. Since that day I just don't see the need for iTerm, but I still notice there's people using it. There's something I'm missing? Why should I use iTerm over Terminal?

  I wanted to get started with using Git and Github especially for installing Web software to my htdocs directory. htdocs is the folder in which you put all your websites that then run by using MAMP -- Apache server, PHP, MySQL and stuff. This not the real problem though, the problem is I am in the terminal and see this: imac-van-jeroen-*******-2:~ JeroensiMac$ And using cd ~ or cd .. just results back in the line above, which is usual. The problem is that all my applications and everything really is not on my user but in the Macintosh HD. Macintosh HD/applications, or Macintosh HD/applications/MAMP/htdocs/ I want to be in the Terminal and go to my Macintosh HD (is this referred to as being superuser?). I want to know if this is just my fault for installing everything on my Macintosh HD instead of Macintosh HD/users/JeroensiMac/~.   I'm trying to write a script to automate a PRAM reset and I've seen a lot of old guides that tell me to use the following command to reset the Mac's PRAM via the terminal: nvram boot-args="-p -r" But this command doesn't seem to work anymore, at least not on any of the computers I've tried it on. I'm trying to find a more up-to-date list of available boot-args and I was able to find this question about boot-args strings but there doesn't seem to be anything in there or any of the links about resetting the pram. Any ideas?

  I basically need some confirmation and clarification concerning Windows Azure with respect to a Silverlight application using RIA Services. In a normal Silverlight app that uses RIA services you have 2 projects: App App.Web ... where App is the default client-side Silverlight and app.web is the server-side code where your RIA services go. If you create a Windows Azure app and add a WCF Web Services Role, you get: App (Azure project) App.Services (WCF Services project) In App.Services, you add your RIA DomainService(s). You would then add another project to this solution that would be the client-side Silverlight that accesses the RIA Services in the App.Services project. You then can add the entity model to the App.Services or another project that is referenced by App.Services (if that division is required for unit testing etc.) and connect that entity model to either a SQLServer db or a SQLAzure instance. Is this correct? If not, what is the general 'layout' for building an application with the following tiers: UI (Silverlight 4) Services (RIA Services) Entity/Domain (EF 4) Data (SQL Server)

  Hi, We are developing a SaaS application in Asp.net, where we have used the Single application and Per Tenant Database. The application is more like a Saas e-commerce where SSL and data separation are required features. Now we want that every Tenant can have his separate top level domain names instead of the second level domains like 37Signals. So all the domains abc.com and xyz.com are using the same single app. What i need to know is how to implement and deploy the https in the application so that everything works out fine, also how should we configure the NameServer and web application on IIS so that all the domains are pointing to the one application.

• Tab title is wrong with ssh/screen on osx

  I am doing ssh -t host screen -D -RR in OS X (10.9) terminal tabs. My ~/.screenrc is identical on all remote hosts and contain the following line: hardstatus string "%H(%n:%t)$USER %h" My ~/.bashrc is also identical on all hosts. When I login to host host_u (Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS) running Screen version 4.00.03jw4 (FAU) 2-May-06, the tab title on the OS X terminal is host_u(1:bash)sds ~, as expected. When I login to host host_c (CentOS release 6.3 (Final)) running Screen version 4.00.03 (FAU) 23-Oct-06, the tab title on the OS X terminal is ~/FooBar (which is the local OS X directory from which I ran the ssh/screen command. Problem: the hardstatus line does not work on host_c.

• Config file (App.config) does not update on new installation

  I am creating setup of my project using Visula Studio 2008. I am facing problem in setup installation. If I uninstall old setup (application) and install the new one then config file (App.config) updates the attributes (surely it is new file) of config file but if I install new setup without uninstalling the old one then config file does not update. from config file I mean MyProject.exe.config Why is this behavior of config file. Should it not be updated on installation of the new setup Is this possible to delete and copy the config file of new setup? Is there a way to update only config file forcefully during installation. • MSSQL Replace Database in Live Web App

  I have a web app that is currently live. I had the need to make major modifications to the database and now I need to replace the current one. My dev SQL instance is not the live one. I usually just make a backup of the new DB, blow the old one away and Restore my updated one. But now I have data I need to preserve. Most of the current tables have changed, in that extra columns have been added, all existing columns are still there and unchanged. I have access to Management Studio. What is the right way to do this?

• input / output error, drives randomly refusing to read / write

  I have an issue with one of our servers running Ubuntu 10.04, it is running BackupPC and collects backups from various machines / servers around the building. On the 8th minute (12:08, 12:18, 12:28 etc) the backups are transferred to an external hard drive, we have three and rotate one drive for another everyday. The problem we are having is we are randomly experiencing input / output errors, when this happens you cannot read / write to the drive, it hasn't unmounted so I can cd to the mount point /media/backup1. You see we have three drives all formatted to ext2, on two of them we were getting I/O errors frequently, I cam back to Quamis' answer and discovered the fsck command, so ran it against the problems drives: fsck /dev/sdb1 This found and fixed a load of problems on the drive, most probably caused by power outages / unsafe removal of drives etc, as the drives are in the xt2 format they aren't journalled and thus aren't protected against such issues. Drives are now working beautifully, thanks all! :D
