  • Monitor disk I/O for specific drive in OS X

    In my Macbook Pro, I have two internal drives and I've connected a third drive via USB in enclosure. I am currently doing a secure wipe of the external drive and I was interested in seeing what the disk I/O was for that particular drive, but when I use Activity Monitor I only see the total disk usage for all drives combined. Is there any way to monitor a specific drive's total I/O, preferably via a built-in or free method? I don't want to filter by process ID. I just want to filter by mounted disk.

Now the problem is that all my users of the workstations used their own Apple ID to sign in in App Store and thus they have their private credit card information bounded to the account and I can not require them to pay the price of the update.   • Trouble getting OS fingerprinting to work in iptables

    Everyone, As I understand it, OSF has been merged with the Kernel since 2.6.before-my-kernel-version. Yet when I do something like this: iptables -I INPUT -j ACCEPT -p tcp -m osf --genre Linux --log 0 --ttl 2 and I get an error like: iptables: No chain/target/match by that name iptables -L Shows no rules because I did an iptables -F at one point. ALSO, the following command: cat /proc/net/ip_tables_matches Does not show "osf" on the list. A google doesn't seem to help. I've also installed iptables-devel in hopes I'd be able to load the osf module. Sadly I haven't been able to get that to work. Centos 6.4 minimal Any guidance?

    I am trying to use GIT to manage my computing projects. But all commands using GIT do not respond on my terminal. For example if I try git --version followed by entry keyboard typing, a blank line appear and wait until ever. If I type again the entry key on my keyboard the command line is again available but nothing appear. It's the same for all git function that I type. Do you have any solution or explanation for this ?

  • Apache mod_rewrite not working properly on Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

    Hello all, I'm trying to create a PHP website with clean URLs with Apache's mod_rewrite, using a .htaccess file. mod_rewrite seems to be working, however, it claims it cannot find files on my server that do exist. Just as a basic test, this is what my .htaccess file looks like at the moment--going to [mysite]/page should redirect to the index.php file: Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^page$ index.php Afaik, I have setup the .conf file appropriately as well: <Directory "/Users/myuser/Sites/"> Options Indexes MultiViews AllowOverride All Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> However, when I try accessing the URL setup via mod_rewrite ( localhost/~myuser/mysite/page ), I get this: Not Found The requested URL /Users/myuser/Sites/mysite/index.php was not found on this server. However, that file does exist, and that is the proper location! The site works fine otherwise, if I go to localhost/~myuser/mysite/index.php, everything works fine--minus any sort of clean URLs, of course. Has anyone seen this before/have any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

  • Mac OS X: Applications not responding

    This happens to me several times a day. I'll quit an app, the window will close, but the app won't finish shutting down. It stays open in the dock, and right clicking and force quit show not responding. Force quit won't work. I can't shut the app down. Starting any other app when this happens causes that app to behave in exactly the same way: the icon opens in the dock, but the app is non-responsive and can't be forced to quit. Can't access terminal when this happens, because it locks up just like all the apps. While I haven't tried to open every app, I think any app I try to open when this is happening will lock up. If I relaunch Finder, it too locks up and then the only thing left is to hold down the power button for a hard reboot. Any app that is running while this is happening will continue to run normally unless I try to shut it down. Repairing disk permissions has no effect. I also did a time machine and a full restore on a brand new MbP - and sure enough, after restore, the new MbP suffers form the same problem. Creating a new user has no effect. Any thoughts? Please help MacBook Pro 15" AG 2.53ghz i5 cpu 8gb RAM 500gb HD (over 200gb free)

    I have pretty important stuff on my PC (using Windows). All the programming files, passwords etc. And now I thought: Is that even safe to store all this information on a hard drive? What if some virus (or a pseudo-antivirus gets it) M.b. it is better to buy Mac for this purpose? I kinda don't like Linux, cause I hate making million small decisions manually (what drivers to install etc) Will like to hear some opinions.

    Just for a new mac server in the office, initially it was for my personal use as a web development box but now the boss wants me to set it up with all the bells and whistles it comes with. I'm having some issues with the following... Lets just say my business is example.com I want the server's actual address to be labs.example.com and accessible to the world. What do I need to set up at my domain registrar to let the domain know where to go, and what do I need to set up with my hosting company to make this work, and finally what do I need to set up in the server admin panel to get it to work. It seems that DNS not working is first hurdle I need to jump but the documentation around the internet is pretty terrible. Thank you community.

    I have a main activity where I call VersionSettings vs = new VersionSettings(this); if (vs.firstRun2()) vs.versionCheckbox(); What I'm trying to do is set a checkbox (checkboxVideoType) to an unchecked state if the Android version is 1.6-2.1 I only want to do this the very first time the app is ever run, it never needs to run again. I think I'm running into the problem when the main activity calls versionCheckbox(), I get a force close if it attempts to run the code inside that is going to set the checkbox to false.   • iPhone 3.1 Black Screen

    Since I've updated my 3G iPhone to 3.1, it will become unresponsive after ~4-5 hours. It looks like it's off, but it's not. None of the buttons do anything that I can see. The only way I can get a screen back is to do a hard reset (Power + Home). Has anyone else had this problem? What can I do to fix it? I've had it 3 happen 3 times already. Very annoying. Apparently, the Discussions forum on Apple.com also shows lots of people are having the same problem. One guy said he did a restore and that fixed it for him, which I haven't tried yet because many others also tried that and it didn't help. A few others have said turning off WIFI fixes it for them, so I'm going to try that today. Another thing I've noticed is that now, when I plug in my iPhone to my Macbook Pro, iTunes 9 does not launch. It used to before the update. ** Further update and possible solution ** I left my iPhone plugged into my Macbook Pro yesterday while at work, and didn't use it much throughout the day. I noticed it didn't lock up once. I suspect this was because it was connected to a power source. I continued to use my iPhone with no problem yesterday and today. Still no lockups as of now. I personally think this was Spotlight and/or Genius "doing it's thing" from a new install. Kinda like an OS upgrade on your Mac... Spotlight has to rebuild itself and those first couple of hours can be kinda sluggish. This would be even more so on the iPhone where processing power is limited, and I'm sure the processor is clocked down a bit while on battery power, which would further amplify the problem. Again, just my guess. My iPhone is working fine now. ** Final Solution ** Update to 3.1.2. Problem solved.

    I've installed Mercurial per MT's knowledge base file here. Working with it server side using ssh from my Mac works fine. I can initialize repositories and the like, but pulling from the server or pushing from my Mac produces an error I don't understand.     Trying to create a custom cyclical horizontal manager which will work as follows. It will control several field buttons where the buttons will always be positioned so that the focused button will be in the middle of the screen. As it is a cyclical manager once the focus moves to the right or left button, it will move to the center of the screen and all the buttons will move accordingly (and the last button will become the first to give it an cyclic and endless list feeling) Any idea how to address this? I tried doing this by implementing a custom manager which aligns the buttons according to the required layout. Each time moveFocus() is called I remove all fields (deleteAll() ) and add them again in the right order. Unfortunately this does not work.

    Hi,I am developing my custom EditField and i want to know how to create spacing in EditField I determined the width of EditField using width=this.getFont().getAdvance("000"); Since i require the entry of 3 digits,but i require some spacing in the front and back of my editfield and how to get spacing.Is there any option to do this? Or else i have to develop the editField using Manager. Regards Rakesh Shankar.P
