  • Started an application through SSH, command line now gone, what happens next?

    Context: This is a very basic question Using Putty and SSH for the first time to do some serious server setup and run into the situation where I have started a process that I do not want to stop. The process is the gunicorn WSGI HTTP Server (running on Centos 6.3). The command I used to start the process is (as per their Quick Start): gunicorn -w 4 myapp:app At this point in the work session, I have lost the command prompt. This must be such a non-issue that it doesn't even enter into an experienced user's consciousness. But unfortunately at my level of experience, I am left with several fundamental questions: Does the fact that I have lost the command prompt mean that the process is still running? How do I get back to the command prompt without killing the process? How do I come back and monitor the process later? How do I eventually kill the process? Any help is appreciated, thanks so much!

    there are many solutions described to get ur SSH-connection forced to only run SFTP by modifying the sshd_config by adding a new group match and give that new group a Forcecommand internal-sftp Well that works great but i would love to have a little more feature. My servers automatically ban IP's which try to connect often in a short time. So when you use any SFTP-Client, which opens multiple connections to work faster it can get banned instandly by the server for a long time. The servers have a script to whitelist users by administrator. I've modified this script to whitelist the user, which runs the script. All i need to do is now get the server to execute that script, when somebody logins. On SSH it's no problem, just put it in .bashrc or something like, but the Forcecommand don't runs these scripts on login. Is there any way to run such a shellscript before or at the same time as the Forcecommand get fired?

  • SSL configuration issue. SSL/IIS7 not loading all scripts/CSS on user's first visit

    Hi all, Hopefully this isnt a tricky one. I've got a web app that doesn't load all javascript/css/images on the first visit. Second visit is fine. After approximately 2 minutes of inactivity the problem reoccurs. These problems only started occuring after the customer requested SSL be applied to the application. Ajax requests stop working after 2 minutes of activity despite a successful page load of all javascript elements. Application timeout is 30 minutes - like I said, everything was fine before SSL was applied. All javascript and CSS files use absolute URLS - e.g https://blablabla There appears to be no pattern as to why certain files arent loaded. The firebug Net output shows the status for the failed elements as 'Aborted'. For example, site.css and nav.css are in the same folder, are declared after each other in the head tag yet one is loaded and the other is not. Both will load fine after refreshing the page (unless roughly two minutes have passed). An Ajax request also shows as aborted after two minutes. However, if i do the request again the Ajax request will succeed. Almost as if the first request woke something up. None of these problems occur in Chrome Any ideas? FYI this is a .Net 4 C# MVC app running under IIS7 but I'm not sure its relevant since it works in Chrome. Everything worked fine before SSL was applied.   • What's a worthwhile test for a new HD?

    I work for a company that uses standard 2.5" SATA HD's in our product. We presently test them by running the Linux 'badblocks -w' command on them when we get them - but they are 160 gig drives, so that takes like 5 hours (we boot parted magic onto a PC to do the scan). We don't actually build that many systems at a time, so this doable, but seriously annoying. Is there any research or anecdotal evidence on what a good incoming test for a hard drive should be? I'm thinking that we should just wipe them with all zeros, write out our image, and do a full drive read back. That would end up being only about 1 hour 45 minutes total. Given that drives do block remapping on their own, would what I've proposed show up any infant mortality just as well as running badblocks?

Why is the location directive embedded in the server directive? Does that mean these locations ONLY apply to this server? None of my configs have listen 80 default_server; how does nginx then pick what configuration to use?

  • Installing Helvetica on Windows

    I've installed Helvetica Neue fonts on my Windows. The problem is when websites use Helvetica or Helvetica Neue typeface, they almost exclusively do it simply using "Helvetica" or "Helvetica Neue" font-family. But In my windows, the Helvetica fonts are installed as a "HelveticaNeueLT Com 45 Lt" or "Helvetica LT Std" or similar extended name. I've tried to create my test page, and the browser renders the font properly only if I use the full font name. I'd like to know, how to make windows/browser display Helvetica properly?

    I have had a problem writing to a Samba share. I believe this person has the answer, but I do not know how to do this, does someone know how to do this? Thank you very much, On the Samba server, you need to ensure that the nobody user has write permissions to /Windows_Backups/DC. You're forcing everyone to be impersonated by the nobody account, so that account will need file-level permissions on that share directory. Samba will respect local permissions when figuring out who can write where, in this case it is somewhat like Windows.

    My Asus worked perfectly until yesterday. I assume that the battery drained and AC was not plugged. I turned it on and doesn't chargeat all. It seems that something wrong with my battery. It works from AC but when it is plugged it shows only 4% available charging. When I unplug AC it shuts down right away. I already tried the 45 seconds holding power button method, and I uninstalled in device manager Microsoft ACPI-compliant Method Battery. Nothing helped. Does anybody has any idea?

  • Windows 8 Task Manager RAM Usage Accuracy

    The new Task Manager has a great UI in windows 8, however, there are some discrepancies in the data I can not account for: Machine: 8 GB of total ram. (This is a physical machine, not a virtual) The processes tab shows 45% of Memory utilized. The listed process do not add up to 3.5 GB of RAM, but instead add up to 0.948 GB. There is no "processes for all users" option. The performance Tab Shows: In use : 3.6 GB Available: 4.4 GB Committed : 4.1 /9.2 GB Cached: 3.7 GB Paged Pool: 376 MB Non-paged pool: 135 MB My reading of this says I have ALOT of "cloaked" processes running some where eating my ram. How do I interpret this data and how do I verify it?

  • Can I use Server Monitor with a non-server Mac?

    I have a computer I use as a simple file and web server. I am simply desiring to be able to monitor load, traffic, memory usage, etc via Server Monitor. I have also downloaded an app for my iPhone which does the same thing, but it uses the same protocol that Server Monitor does. Is it possible to get Server Monitor to recognize my non-server box as a server so I can monitor this information? For reference, I am running 10.4.11 on this PPC box. Thanks in advance!

    I have just installed Microsoft 2010 I am using the 'Outlook 2010' for my email program. For the past few years I have used Outlook Express and used the program quite well However with the Outlook 2010 I have not been able to find 2 functions that I was able to do on Outlook Express 1) OE I could press stationary and it would insert a BIT Map for me , however when I do stationary in Outlook 2010 it no longer allows me to insert the Bit map. 2) OE I created a rule that allowed me to copy emails into another folder , however in 2010 it only allows me to move as a rule and not the initial copy. Please could you explain how I may be able to use the same function in 2010?

  • VMware guest eats 100% cpu

    I have a Windows 7 x64 guest that acts very strange - the VM is very slow and taskmgr will consume 50% (with 2 cores) or up to 99% (single) of the CPU when everything else is idle. Host is Windows 7 x64 with VMware Workstation 7.0.1 VMware tools are installed the same VM, when running on another PC with VMware Server 2.0 will work OK (CPU at ~0% when idle) I've tried (with no effects) enabled/disabled 3d selected 1 or 2 cores adjusted memory (1gb/500mb) adjusted the bios mem.hotadd = "FALSE" disabled page trimming Windows 7 x86 guests on the same machine do not have this problem.

  • Heroku Problem During Database Pull of Rails App: Mysql::Error MySQL server has gone away

    Attempting to pull my database from Heroku gives an error partway through the process (below). Using: Snow Leopard; heroku-1.8.2; taps-0.2.26; rails-2.3.5; mysql-5.1.42. Database is smallish, as you can see from the error message. Heroku tech support says it's a problem on my system, but offers nothing in the way of how to solve it. I've seen the issue reported before - for example here. How can I get around this problem?   • Emulating old-school sprite flickering (theory and concept)

    I'm trying to develop an oldschool NES-style video game, with sprite flickering and graphical slowdown. I've been thinking of what type of logic I should use to enable such effects. I have to consider the following restrictions if I want to go old-school NES style: No more than 64 sprites on the screen at a time No more than 8 sprites per scanline, or for each line on the Y axis If there is too much action going on the screen, the system freezes the image for a frame to let the processor catch up with the action From what I've read up, if there were more than 64 sprites on the screen, the developer would only draw high-priority sprites while ignoring low-priority ones. They could also alternate, drawing each even numbered sprite on opposite frames from odd numbered ones. The scanline issue is interesting. From my testing, it is impossible to get good speed on the XBOX 360 XNA framework by drawing sprites pixel-by-pixel, like the NES did. This is why in old-school games, if there were too many sprites on a single line, some would appear if they were cut in half. For all purposes for this project, I'm making scanlines be 8 pixels tall, and grouping the sprites together per scanline by their Y positioning. So, dumbed down I need to come up with a solution that.... 64 sprites on screen at once 8 sprites per 'scanline' Can draw sprites based on priority Can alternate between sprites per frame Emulate slowdown Here is my current theory First and foremost, a fundamental idea I came up with is addressing sprite priority. Assuming values between 0-255 (0 being low), I can assign sprites priority levels, for instance: 0 to 63 being low 63 to 127 being medium 128 to 191 being high 192 to 255 being maximum Within my data files, I can assign each sprite to be a certain priority. When the parent object is created, the sprite would randomly get assigned a number between its designated range. I would then draw sprites in order from high to low, with the end goal of drawing every sprite. Now, when a sprite gets drawn in a frame, I would then randomly generate it a new priority value within its initial priority level. However, if a sprite doesn't get drawn in a frame, I could add 32 to its current priority. For example, if the system can only draw sprites down to a priority level of 135, a sprite with an initial priority of 45 could then be drawn after 3 frames of not being drawn (45+32+32+32=141) This would, in theory, allow sprites to alternate frames, allow priority levels, and limit sprites to 64 per screen. Now, the interesting question is how do I limit sprites to only 8 per scanline? I'm thinking that if I'm sorting the sprites high-priority to low-priority, iterate through the loop until I've hit 64 sprites drawn. However, I shouldn't just take the first 64 sprites in the list. Before drawing each sprite, I could check to see how many sprites were drawn in it's respective scanline via counter variables . For example: Y-values between 0 to 7 belong to Scanline 0, scanlineCount[0] = 0 Y-values between 8 to 15 belong to Scanline 1, scanlineCount[1] = 0 etc. I could reset the values per scanline for every frame drawn. While going down the sprite list, add 1 to the scanline's respective counter if a sprite gets drawn in that scanline. If it equals 8, don't draw that sprite and go to the sprite with the next lowest priority. SLOWDOWN The last thing I need to do is emulate slowdown. My initial idea was that if I'm drawing 64 sprites per frame and there's still more sprites that need to be drawn, I could pause the rendering by 16ms or so. However, in the NES games I've played, sometimes there's slowdown if there's not any sprite flickering going on whereas the game moves beautifully even if there is some sprite flickering. Perhaps give a value to each object that uses sprites on the screen (like the priority values above), and if the combined values of all objects w/ sprites surpass a threshold, introduce the sprite flickering? IN CONCLUSION... Does everything I wrote actually sound legitimate and could work, or is it a pipe dream? What improvements can you all possibly think with this game programming theory of mine?

    I don't know of any better way to ask this question. If the below code is run (i know the cData sections are not visible in the preview, something causes it to be ignored). The result does not represent the data correctly. 1. Flex ignores missing date 24 aug for DECKER. 2. It wrongly associates 42.77 to 23-Aug instead of 24-AUG. Is there a way in flex, where the x-axis is a union of all available points ? First request is always successful (no matter IPv4 or IPv6), but the second always fails with curl error 45 (Couldn't bind to IP). '</p>'; curl_close($ch); } v6_google(); v4_google(); So long story short, if I query v6_google(); first, then all consecutive calls of v4_google(); are failing with the curl error 45 (Couldn't bind to IP). And vice versa. As you can see, I separated code into different functions and added CURLOPT_FORBID_REUSE and CURLOPT_FRESH_CONNECT plus curl_close($ch), but it didn't help at all. It looks like curl is caching the resolving method of every host you request, and even if you specify another resolving method the next time you call that host, the cached one is used instead. I would appreciate any help with this issue.

  • Why can't my program display this dialog box, while another program can?

    I'm trying to write a wrapper for Winamp input plugins and have hit a bit of a snag. I'd like my wrapper to be able to display a plugin's configuration dialog, which is (or should be) achieved by calling the plugin's Config(HWND hwndParent) function. For most plugins, this works fine and my program is able to display the plugin's configuration dialog. However, 64th Note (a plugin for playing USF files) is giving me problems. Winamp can display its configuration dialog just fine, but whenever I try to display it from my wrapper, the dialog gets destroyed before it ever shows itself. Thankfully, 64th Note is open source, so I took a look at its innards to try and get an idea of what's going wrong. I've trimmed off the irrelevant bits and am left with this: Config function in the plugin (should show configuration dialog): void Config(HWND hwndParent) { DialogBox(slave, (const char *) IDD_CONFIG_WINDOW, NULL, configDlgProc); } (Slave is the plugin DLL's HINSTANCE handle.) However, it does not appear when I invoke it from my wrapper program. When I monitored the messages sent to the dialog in its proc function, I saw that WM_DESTROY and WM_NCDESTROY were sent within the first few messages, though I have no clue as to why. If I change the Config function so that it displays the plugin's About dialog instead of its configuration dialog, both Winamp and my wrapper will display the About dialog, which suggests that there is something unique to the configuration dialog template that's causing the problem. No problem with the first one, but i just can't figure out how to pass through the second one.
