• When is a webapp called Beta, alpha, pre-alpha, or none

  I've come across many apps on the web that call themselves Beta. I've come across other apps that had an alpha designation. I've even come across some that called themselves pre-alpha, whatever that means (if you know please clarify). Then I've come across some really bad webapps that shouldn't have left the developer's computer and they didn't have any beta designations. I've also seen some well built apps that called themselves Beta, including Stack Exchange (the mother site of SO) which I believe is very full featured to be called a Beta. I'm a little confused. It seems people are doing it at their whims. Is there an established rule or a checklist that can help decide what stage an app is in (beta, alpha, pre-alpha, or none)? P.S. Please feel free to retag as appropriate.

• Best package for basic web-based file manager

  I'm looking for a basic web-based file management application. It must have an affordable price, and fairly easy installation would be a plus. ASP.Net / IIS based would be easiest for me to work with. Basically, I'd like it to create a secure web site where myself and a few people can exchange various types of files, etc. I'm looking for a package I can install on my own server rather than a web-based service, as I think I can get more space at a good price point this way. I could go custom coding, but I figure this is such a generic need, there must be something already mature out there at a decent price. What has worked best for you?

• OpenID Authentication 2.0 in Joomla 1.0.x

  Is there any easy way to bring OpenID authentication into a Joomla 1.0.x website? I am particularly interested in Google authentication (so I'll want OAuth &/or OpenID Attribute Exchange as well later), but for now just authentication will work. I know Joomla 1.5.x supports OpenID natively but I have to stick with 1.0.x for now. Any ideas? There are some traces of com_openid component on the net but I cannot find anything to look at.. EDIT I managed to find a J-OpenID component, gonna give it a try.

• Fastest way to do mass update

  Let’s say you have a table with about 5 million records and a nvarchar(max) column populated with large text data. You want to set this column to NULL if SomeOtherColumn = 1 in fastest possible way. The brute force UPDATE does not work very well here because it will create large implicit transaction and take forever. Doing updates in small batches of 50K records at a time works but it’s still taking 47 hrs to complete on beefy 32 core/64GB server. Is there any way to do this update faster? Are there any magic query hints/table options that scarifies something else (like concurrency) in exchange of speed? NOTE: Creating temp table or temp column is not an option because this nvarchar(max) column involves lots of data and so consumes lots of space!

I have to get it using the c# code. Can anyone pls help me on this

• Is generic Money<T_amount> a good idea?

  I have a Money Type that allows math operations and is sensitive to exchange rates so it will reduce one currency to another if rate is available to calculate in a given currency, rounds by various methods. It has other features that are sensitive to money, but I need to ask if the basic data type used should be made generic in nature. I've realized that the basic data type to hold an amount may differ for financial situations, for example: retail money might be expressed as all cents using int or long where fractions of cents do not matter, decimal is commonly used for its fixed behaviour, sometimes double seems to be used for big finance and large values sometimes a special BigInteger or 3rd-party type is used. I want to know if it would be considered good form to turn Money into Money<T_amount> so it can be used in any one of the above chosen scenarios?

• WCF Certificate issue

  I am developing a WCF service on my local computer using Visual Studios built in ASP.NET development sever and I'm having issues creating and using temporary Certificates. I have created a cert call TempCA and added it to the Trusted Root Certificate folder and I have created another called SignedByCA which has been added to the personal folder. The service config file has been set up to use SignedByCA but when I run the service I get the following error. The certificate 'CN=SignedByCA' must have a private key that is capable of key exchange. The process must have access rights for the private key. I have tried using WinHttpCertCfg.exe to give other users access to the key but I have since found out that WinHttpCertCfg.exe has be deprecated in windows Vista. Has anyone had this issue before in a similar circumstance??

• Lotus Notes - Fails to move inbox article to subfolder

  Lotus Notes 8.5 - yuck! User is trying to move an email from the Inbox into a subfolder and is using the menu option (not dragging & dropping) the email simply fails to move. It just appears again in the inbox. Drag and drop has the same effect! I have checked that it is a failure to move and not just a copy/delete issue. I am not a Notes adminstrator, being more of a MS Exchange administrator by career path and have no idea what to be looking for.

• Safari Back button not honouring PHP logout session

  I've got a logout.php page which ends a user's session and works well and does the following: session_start(); session_unset(); session_destroy(); I've just noticed when testing with Safari that when you logout you can click the back button to return to the previous page which requires authentication but are not prompted. You cannot navigate away from this page without entering the navigation but it should not be displaying the previous page in the first place. So far in my testing this is only an issue with Safari on Mac OS X and there are a number of other reports about this but with no resolution that I could find: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Web_Development/Web_Languages-Standards/PHP/Q_23702691.html I would love to be able to disable this behaviour with Safari's back button - surprised that this is happening in the first place. • Success verification of mail() function PHP

  Hi Is it possible to check if the php can get some kind of a ping/flag back from exchange mail server to say "yes, email has been sent off to the intended recipient"? According to the PHP manual, the return of mail() boolean could mean; "It is important to note that just because the mail was accepted for delivery, it does NOT mean the mail will actually reach the intended destination." Does this mean, PHP can return success but actually there could be a problem on the mail server that php wouldn't know about it? and in this case no email has been sent and the user is none the wiser?   The idea is to allow to peer processes to exchange messages (packets) over tcp as much asynchronously as possible. The way I'd like it to work is each process to have an outbox and an inbox. The send operation is just a push on the outbox. The receive operation is just a pop on the inbox. Underlying protocol would take care of the communication details. Is there a way to implement such mechanism using a single TCP connection? How would that be implemented using BSD sockets and modern OO Socket APIs (like Java or C# socket API)?

• Dynamic IMAP/Pop3 Email Address Creation

  I have a requirement in my project to create dynamic email address on the fly. For example, similar to flickr has the option of uploading photos (or blogger.com has an option of rececing blog posts in predefined email addresses). The email address can be like "[email protected]", once this email address is created what ever the incoming mails will be processed based on certain scenarios. My questions are: What are the solutions available for having our own IMAP/POP3 Server in Windows? Exchange is not an option though, any commercial softwares will do. Is there any way we can have one real email box and that will be masked with alphanumeric email addresss to minimize the creation of email addresses.

I have this in my Animal.cs clas private string _animalName; public string AnimalName { get { return _animalName; } set { if(_animalName!= value) { _animalName= value; this.NotifyPropertyChanged("AnimalName"); } } } I could also write: public string AnimalName {get;set;} There is no difference in binding and validation. Everythings works as before when I exchange the code. Is this due to the fact that I only create new animals but I do not allow to update the animals name in my application ? So I need to call the propertyChanged("AnimalName"); only when I want to change its property value? I am a c# beginner ;)

• Makecert problem under Windows 7

  I'm creating a certificate to use with an SslStream, and I've been doing it this way under XP: makecert -r -pe -n "CN=aName" -ss my -sr localmachine -sky exchange -sp "Microsoft RSA SChannel Cryptographic Provider" -sy 12 server.cer If I understand this correctly, this creates a certificate in server.cer, and creates a private key for it in my personal certificate store. Once I have done this, I can create a certificate object like this: X509Certificate.CreateFromCertFile(certFile); I then use it with the SSLStream, and everything works fine. Now that I have switched to Windows 7, the private key seems to be disappearing every time I restart the machine. I run a command prompt as Administrator, and execute the same makecert command shown above. This succeeds and the SSL connection works correctly. If I restart the machine, the call to AuthenticateAsServer fails with the exception "The server mode SSL must use a certificate with the associated private key." Why is the private key disappearing? What do I need to do to make it stick around?

• Using Google AppEngine app as a OAuth provider

  Hi, I'm using the Google AppEngine 1.3.4 SDK which offers to allow your application to act as a OAuth service provider (http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/python/oauth/). Setting up a standard application on my localhost and using the following: Request URL /_ah/OAuthGetRequestToken Authorize URL /_ah/OAuthAuthorizeToken Access Token URL /_ah/OAuthGetAccessToken The client application just gets sent to a page requesting to grant OAuth access even though no user is logged in. Clicking 'Grant access' results in a message saying 'OAuth access granted' with no tokens or anything exchange. Can't see how this could work when it's not even prompting for a login. As this functionality is quite new I can't find much out there. I've created a OAuth provider before in Rails and know that you need a Consumer Key and Secret, something that seems to be lacking in GAE? Any ideas on how to get OAuth working in a sample GAE project are most welcome.

  Hello! I am learning Qooxdoo framework and I am trying to make it work with a small Django web service. Django webservice just returns JSON data like this: { "name": "Football", "description": "The most popular sport." } Then I use the following code to query that url: var req = new qx.io.remote.Request(url, "GET", "application/json"); req.toggleCrossDomain(); req.addListener("completed", function(e) { alert(e.getContent()); }); req.send(); Unfortunately when I execute the code I get unexpected token error and then request timeouts. What else should it do above the minimum requirements? Is monitoring the 'infrastructure' applications (ms-exchange, apache, etc.) sufficient or do individual user applications, web sites, and databases also need to be monitored? if the latter, what do you need to know about them?   Hi, This is a powershell/AD/Exchange question.... I'm running a script against a number of Users to check some of their attributes however I'm having trouble getting this to output to CSV. The script runs well and does exactly what I need it to do, the output on screen is fine, I'm just having trouble getting it to directly export to csv. The input is a comma seperated txt file of usernames (eg "username1,username2,username3") I've experimented with creating custom ps objects, adding to them and then exporting those but its not working.... • deciding between subprocess, multiprocesser and thread in Python?

  I'd like to parallelize my Python program so that it can make use of multiple processors on the machine that it runs on. My parallelization is very simple, in that all the parallel "threads" of the program are independent and write their output to separate files. I don't need the threads to exchange information but it is imperative that I know when the threads finish since some steps of my pipeline depend on their output. Portability is important, in that I'd like this to run on any Python version on Mac, Linux and Windows. Given these constraints, which is the most appropriate Python module for implementing this? I am tryign to decide between thread, subprocess and multiprocessing, which all seem to provide related functionality. Any thoughts on this? I'd like the simplest solution that's portable. Thanks.

• fastest (low latency) method for Inter Process Communication between Java and C/C++

  Hello, I have a Java app, connecting through TCP socket to a "server" developed in C/C++. both app & server are running on the same machine, a Solaris box (but we're considering migrating to Linux eventually). type of data exchanged is simple messages (login, login ACK, then client asks for something, server replies). each message is around 300 bytes long. Currently we're using Sockets, and all is OK, however I'm looking for a faster way to exchange data (lower latency), using IPC methods. I've been researching the net and came up with references to the following technologies: - shared memory - pipes - queues but I couldn't find proper analysis of their respective performances, neither how to implement them in both JAVA and C/C++ (so that they can talk to each other), except maybe pipes that I could imagine how to do. can anyone comment about performances & feasibility of each method in this context ? any pointer / link to useful implementation information ? thanks for your help
