• Second user-defined function returns garbage value?

  I have been teaching myself C programming, and I've come to a difficult point with using variables across functions. When, I compile this program and run it, the function askBirthYear returns the correct value, but sayAgeInYears returns either 0 or a garbage value. I believe it has something to do with how I used the variable birthYear, but I'm stumped on how to fix the issue. • Selecting value from array results

  Being new to learning PHP I am having trouble with understanding how to select/echo/extract a value from array result a API script returns. Using the standard: echo "<pre>"; print_r($ups_rates->rates); echo "</pre>"; The results returned look like this: Array ( [0] => Array ( [code] => 03 [cost] => 19.58 [desc] => UPS Ground ) [1] => Array ( [code] => 12 [cost] => 41.69 [desc] => UPS 3 Day Select ) [2] => Array ( [code] => 02 [cost] => 59.90 [desc] => UPS 2nd Day Air ) ) If I am only needing to work with the values of the first array result: Code 3, 19.58, UPS Ground --- what is the correct way to echo one or more of those values? I thought: $test = $ups_rates[0][cost]; echo $test; This is obviously wrong and my lack of understanding the array results isn't improving, can someone please show me how I would echo an individual value of the returned array and/or assign it to a variable to echo the normal way?

• How to display different value with ComboBoxTableCell?

  I try to use ComboxBoxTableCell without success. The content of the cell display the right value for the attribute of an object. But when the combobox is displayed, all items are displayed with the toString object method and not the attribute. I tryed to override updateItem of ComboBoxTableCell or to provide a StringConverter but nothing works. Do you have some ideas to custom comboxbox list display in a table cell ? I put a short example below to see quickly the problem. • wrong return value with jquery ajax and codeigniter

  I do not know if this is specifically a jquery problem, actually I think it has to mostly do with my logic in the php code. What Im trying to do is make a voting system that when the user clicks on the vote up or vote down link in the web page, it triggers an ajax call to a php function that first updates the database with with the required value, on success of the database updating the another function is called just to get the required updated html for the that particular post that the user has voted on. (hope I havnt lost you). The problem I think deals with specifically with this one line of code. When I make the call it only returns the value of $row-beer_down and completly ignores everything else in that line. Funny thing is the same php code to display the html view works perfectly before the ajax function updates it. echo "<p>Score " . $row->beer_up + $row->beer_down .   I am currently trying to return an array which contains information about a seat at a theate such as Seat number, Name, Price and Status. I am using a combobox where I want to list all vacant or reserved seats based upon choice. When I choose reserved seats in my combobox, I call upon a method using AddRange. This method is supposed to loop through an array containing all seats and their information. If a seat is Vacant, I add it to an array. When all is done, I return this array.   I've just started learning PowerShell this morning, and I'm grappling with the basics. Here's the problem: I want to query subversion for the revision number of a repository, and then create a new directory with this revision number. The command svn_info outputs a number of label\value pairs, delimited by colons.   Hi, I have a listing in an UpdatePanel I have some filters for that list in the form a checkboxList control. The checkboxList is created dynamically on page load During the Ajax update (postback), the checkbox list is not populated form the viewstate, so I cannot get the listing to filter.   I have tab delimited data with multiple columns. I have OS names in column 31 and data bytes in columns 6 and 7. What I want to do is count the total volume of each unique OS. • multi-dimension array value sorting in php

  Another potentially interesting (or n00b, whatever comes first) question. I am building up an array with a set of database fields with information about table, actual field name and descriptive field name as a multi-dimensional array. Here is what it currently looks like: $Fields['User']['ID'] = "User ID"; $Fields['User']['FirstName'] = "First Name"; $Fields['Stats']['FavouriteOrder'] = "Favourite Item Ordered"; $Fields['Geographic']['Location'] = "Current Location"; $Fields['Geographic']['LocationCode'] = "Current Location Code"; Okay, this is fine, but I am piping this into a system that allows exporting of selected fields, and in the end I want to foreach() through the different levels, extract the data and then ultimately have all the descriptive fields to be displayed sorted alphabetically using their descriptive name. So ultimately in the order: Current Location, Current Location Code, Favourite Item Ordered, First Name then User ID - obviously keeping index associations. I can't use usort() and I can't use array_multisort()... or maybe I can and I just don't know how. usort() seems to need a key to sort by, but I have variable keys. array_multisort() just seems to do the same as sort() really. Any ideas?

Basically, I want to replace things like url(/assets/some-background-image.png) with url(http://assets[increment].domain.com/assets/some-background-image.png) I'm using this inside a class that I eventually want to evolve into doing various CSS parsing tasks.   Edit: I think the answer to my question lies in the ability to set user defined variables in MySQL through PHP - the answer by Multifarious has pointed me in this direction Currently I have a script to cycle over 10M records, it's very slow and it goes like this: I first get a block of 1000 results in an array similar to this: $matches[] = array('quality_rank'=>46732, 'db_id'=>5532); $matches[] = array('quality_rank'=>12324, 'db_id'=>1234); $matches[] = array('quality_rank'=>45235, 'db_id'=>8345); $matches[] = array('quality_rank'=>75543, 'db_id'=>2562); I then cycle through them one by one and update the record $mult = count($matches)*2; foreach($matches as $m) { $rank++; $score = (($m[quality_rank] + $rank)/($mult))*100; $s = "UPDATE `packages_sorted` SET `price_rank` = '".$rank."', `deal_score` = '".$score."' WHERE `db_id` = '".$m[db_id]."' LIMIT 1"; } It seems like this is a very slow way of doing it but I can't find another way to increment the field price_rank by one each time. Can anyone suggest a better method. Note: Although I wouldn't usually store this kind of value in a database I really do need on this occasion for comparison search queries later on in the project. Any help would be kindly appreciated :)

  I'm using jqGrid with the filter toolbar, i need to set an initial default filter value to one of the fields so that only rows with status 'Open' are displayed by default, but the user can display Closed rows if desired. At the moment i have a workaround like this setTimeout(function() {$('#gs_Status').val('Open');$("#eventsGrid")[0].triggerToolbar()},500); but it results in a second request and is pretty bad really. Does anybody know how to do this?
