• Android: Custom view based on layout: how?

  I am building a Android app and I am a bit struggling with custom Views. I would like to have a reusable View that consist of a few standard layout elements. Let's say a relativelayout with some buttons in it. How should I proceed. Should I create a custom view class that extends RelativeLayout and programmaticly add those buttons? I would think that's a bit overkill? What's the way to do it properly in Android?

  I have a table in my view controller (let's call it TVC1). I have rows in TVC1 that are used so the user can input some more data in addition to the data on TVC1. So, when someone taps a specific row in TVC1, it will show another view controller (let's call it TVC2). However, when TVC2 is shown, all of the data in TVC1 is cleared. How can I save the data in TVC1? Should I do it through the app delegate? • What sort of loop structure to compare checkbox matrix with Google Maps markers?

  I'm trying to build a map of trails around my town. I'm using an XML file to hold all the trail data. For each marker, I have categories like "surface," "difficulty," "uses," etc. I have seen many examples of Google Maps that use checkboxes to show markers by category. However these examples are usually very simple: maybe three different checkboxes. What's different on my end is that I have multiple categories, and within each category there are several possible values. So, a particular trail might have "use" values of "hiking," "biking," "jogging," and "equestrian" because all are allowed. I put together one version, which you can see here: http://www.joshrenaud.com/pd/trails_withcheckboxes3.html In this version, any trail that has any value checked by the user will be displayed on the map. This version works. (although I should point out there is a bug where despite only one category being checked on load, all markers display anyway. After your first click on any checkbox, the map will work properly) However I now realize it's not quite what I want. I want to change it so that it will display only markers that match ALL the values that are checked (rather than ANY, which is what the example above does). I took a hack at this. You can see the result online, but I can't type a link to it because I am new user. Change the "3" in the URL above to a "4" to see it. My questions are about this SECOND url. (trails_withcheckboxes4.html) It doesn't work. I am pretty new to Javascript, so I am sure I have done something totally wrong, but I can't figure out what. My specific questions: Does anyone see anything glaringly obvious that is keeping my second example from working? If not, could someone just suggest what sort of loop structure I would need to build to compare the several arrays of checkboxes with the several arrays of values on any given marker? My herpers works fines when I put them in application's helpers path.   I’m working on a game for Android. To help implement it, my idea is to create a subclass of a view. I would then insert several instances of this class as children of the main view. Each instance would handle detecting when it was pressed (via OnTouchListener). The problem I’m having now is how do I loop through all these sub-views so I can read their statuses and process them? (I.e. when they all reach a certain state something should happen). Or is there a better way to have several objects on the screen that respond to touch and whose status I can check?

  Running into a problem. I have a table defined to hold the values of the daily treasury yield curve. It's a pretty simple table used for historical lookup of values. There are notibly some gaps in the table on year 4, 6, 8, 9, 11-19 and 21-29. The formula is pretty simple in that to calculate year 4 it's 0.5*Year3Value + 0.5*Year5Value. The problem is how can I write a VIEW that can return the missing years? I could probably do it in a stored procedure but the end result needs to be a view.

  When I try to edit an ASPX file with the Design View it freezes for a moment and does nothing, not even an error message. Looking through menus I've seen some strange things: If I go to Tools-Options-HTML Designer it gives me no options on the right panel, just a "Error loading property page" message. When I try to open a file using "Open With..." there should be something like "Web Form - Editor", but it is missing and I can only open them using Code View. I've tried repairing Visual Studio and reinstalling WebDesignerCore, but nothing works. Anyone had the same problem?

  Hi, I have a MS SQL view that I want to make available as a CSV download in my ASPNET Web Forms app. I am using Entity Framework for other views and tables in the project. What's the best way to enable this download? I could add a HyperLink whose click handler iterates over the view, writes its CSV form to the disk, and then serves that file. However, I'd prefer not to write to the disk if it can be avoided, and that involves iteration code that may be avoided with some other solution. Any ideas?

  Is it possible to create a full text index on a VIEW? If so, given two columns column1 and column2 on a VIEW, what is the SQL to get this done? The reason I'd like to do this is I have two very large tables, where I need to do a FULLTEXT search of a single column on each table and combine the results.   I have a UITableViewController, when there is no data to populate the UITableView, I want to add a button, which uses an image. So, rather than the user seeing a tableview with no records, they will see an image that says, "No records have been added, Tap to add one", then they click and we create a new one. I assumed I would just hide the UITableView, then create the button, but I never see the button.   Hey, I've rolled my own custom view and can draw to the screen alright, but what I'd really like to do is set the measuredHeigh of the screen to, say, 1000px and let the user scroll on the Y axis, but I'm having problems doing this. Can anyone help?   Lets assume the following code within a controller: $this->view->addScriptPath('dir1/views/scripts'); $this->view->addScriptPath('dir2/views/scripts'); $this->render('index.phtml'); Where dir1/views/scripts contains 2 files: -index.phtml -table.phtml And dir2/views/scripts: -table.phtml Now, it will render the index.phtml in dir1 since dir 2 doesn't have an index.phtml. Index.phtml looks something like: <somehtml> <?= $this->render('table.phtml') ?> </somehtml> This is where the confusion starts for me. I would expect it to render the table.phtml in the last directory added to the script path stack, but it doesn't. Is there a simple solution/explanation to my problem?

  I am closely following the instructions given in the tutorial "Your First iPhone Application" on apple ADC. In the interface builder, I have set up a button positioned on the top according to the Apple Interface Guidelines. It runs without trouble if I simulate the interface in IB. However, if I run the built app, I get what is shown here. If you look at the view clearly, you will see that the entire view has been shifted up. And the magnitude of the shift is exactly the height of the status bar. And that's why the there is blank space at the bottom of the window, which was white instead of red. I have tried turning on the "Simulated Interface Elements", but that doesn't work either. The problem persists on real devices as well. However, using the "Simulate Interface" from IB looks fine. • Page appears indexed in Google but not findable for any search terms?

  (Note that I am going to use screenshots here because I suspect writing about this will change the behavior over time.) If you do a Google search for uiviewcontroller best practices either with or without the quotes, you end up with results like this: Note that none of these pages resolve to the actual Stack Overflow question containing those words in the title. They resolve to either a) sites that are mirroring our creative commons data and correctly pointing back to the source question without nofollow, as properly specified by our attribution requirements or b) our own internal links to the question, but not the actual question itself. The actual page with the title ... Custom UIView and UIViewController best practices? ... does exist at this URL ... http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3300183/custom-uiview-and-uiviewcontroller-best-practices ... and apparently it is present in Google's index! But why does it not appear when we search for uiviewcontroller best practices ? We know that Google contains this page in its index Our search terms match the title of the question Stack Overflow has much higher pagerank than the other sites that are mirroring this question under Creative Commons I don't get it. What are we doing wrong here?
