  Hello - My production env runs CentOS 5.2 and 5.5 versions. I have to develop a new tool using C/C++ and deploy it on this production env. I was planning to use Fedora 14 on my desktop with GCC 4.4 to do the development with Eclipse IDE. And then later I want to deploy the executables to CentOS 5.2 or 5.5 The production env will have GCC 4.4 as well. Since both Fedora and CentOS are RHEL based, I thought this is possible. So can I do this? Or do I need to have CentOS 5.2/5.5 on my development desktop as well? Thanks Amit

• Nexus One USB freezes Vista SP2 Quad Core

  My Nexus One (N1) will occasionally freeze my Vista 32bit SP2 Quad Core 2.4GHz during POST. MB is ASUS P5N-E SLI with 4GB of RAM. The PC will be booting and when I connect the N1 via USB, the boot sequence will freeze, then continue once I unplug the N1 USB link. It happens whether the N1 is in USB debugging mode and when it is not. I'm not sure whether this is an N1 hw/fw issue, system interaction with my PC, or a result of my N1 development environment (I'm using the Eclipse Galileo IDE for Java Developers, primarily compiling to API Level 7. Eclipse has also occasionally frozen although I haven't established N1 USB cause-and-effect on that issue). Is anyone else experiencing these symptom?

  I was instructed to replace the hard drive in an old laptop, a Dell Latitude D505. I'm suspecting that there was a head crash when someone moved the laptop while it was turned on. In the specifications, I found this about the hard drive: 30GB ATA-100; (4200RPM); 40GB ATA-100 (5400RPM); 60GB ATA-100 (4200RPM) *Optional 40GB (5400) 2nd HDD Module for media bay I'm familiar with SATA and IDE, but ATA-100 doesn't ring a bell. What do I have to take into account when I go look for a replacement hard drive?

The motherboard supports Serial ATA 1 and I have a real nice offer on a SATA 2 drive, can I use that drive on a SATA 1 interface (obviously with reduced speed) just like a USB 2.0 device on a 1.0 port? • Ubuntu, No wireless networks found after correctly installed madwifi

  Hi, I just installed madwifi on my MSI laptop with an Atheros AR5001 wifi card & Lucid. As far as I can see and according to System - Administration - Hardware drivers the install was successful and the card + driver is up and running. However, I don't see any wireless network (my windows PC can see about 5 wireless networks). I tried it with the network manager applet as well as with wicd. If I try to connect to "Hidden Wireless Network" via nm-applet, it will start to connect for a while but is unable too (although I supply it with the correct WEP settings & key) So, I'm unable to use my wireless network. What am i doing wrong? • Make cloudera-vm work on Oracle VM VirtualBox

  I downloaded this and the instructions say: Important: You must enable the I/O APIC in order to use 64-bit mode. (See http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch03.html.) On newer versions of VirtualBox, it may default to using SATA as the disk interface. This can cause a kernel panic in the VM. Switching to the IDE driver solves this problem. I am running this on Red Hat 64-bit mode (I've also tried on Ubuntu 64-bit with the same result). I pointed to the cloudera-vm image as a startup disk for the VM. I am getting this message: Failed to open a session for the virtual machine ClouderaDevelopment. VT-x features locked or unavailable in MSR. (VERR_VMX_MSR_LOCKED_OR_DISABLED).   Hi All, Does anyone experience this problem of corrupted .WAR file after it has been copied over the network share ? this is .WAR file (Web Archive) the J2EE application file (.WAR file is compressed with the same zip algorithm i think ?) Scenario 1: Windows Server 2008 x64 transfer into Windows XP using RDP client (Local Devices and Resources) Scenario 2: Windows XP 32 bit transfer into Windows Server 2003 x64 using shared network drive (port 445 SMB ?) for both of the scenario it always failed / corrupted (the source code seems to be duplicated at the end of line when you open up in the Eclipse / Java IDE). but when in both scenario i compressed the file into .ZIP file everything is OK. can anyone explains why this problem happens ?   Specs: AMD Athlon XP 2400+ @ 1987 MHz / 2x 512MB PC3200 DDR RAM / 160GB IDE HDD / 128MB GeForce 6200 AGP / FIC AM37 / Windows XP Pro SP3 So, every time I start up my machine, there's a startup screen for the graphics card. It should display "NVIDIA GeForce 6200 VGA BIOS" with some other copyright information underneath it. However, it randomly changed to say "NV44A VGA BIOS." I think the GeForce 6200 codename is NV44A or something, but is there someway to change it back to say "GeForce 6200 VGA BIOS" or, if not, to completely stop it from showing upon startup? (Graphics drivers are all up to date.) Thanks in advance.

• External hard drive doesn't appear in Computer

  I cannot work out why this is happening. I have an external hard drive (which is an old laptop hard drive with an IDE to USB adapter). Plugging it into my computer powers it up. It spins correctly and the lights on the adapter flash normally. Uninstalling from hardware manager and plugging it back in causes Windows to "install new software", and it says it has installed properly. In Disk Management it comes up in the bottom part as Disk 2 with the right size (~60 GB), but not in the top half. There are three empty drives in the top half. They don't have titles or drive letters. Right clicking them bring up slightly varying context menus, but all with the options disabled. Here is a picture of my Disk Management screen: How do I make this drive show up in My Computer? I need to format it and use it as an external hard drive.

  Hello All, I want to ensure I have done all I can to configure a system's disks for serious database use. The three areas I know of (any others?) to be concerned about are: I/O size: the database engine and disk's native size should either match, or the database's native I/O size should be a multiple of the disk's native I/O size. Disks that are capable of Direct Memory Access (eg. IDE) should be configured for it. When a disk says it has written data persistently, it must be so! No keeping it in cache and lying about it. I have been looking for information on how to ensure these are so for CENTOS and Ubuntu, but can't seem to find anything at all! I want to be able to check these things and change them if needed. Any and all input appreciated.

  I have installed Windows XP on my machine (Company CQ5020NL). Before I was able to do that, I set the SATA controller to IDE in the bios. Now I want to install Windows 7 upgrade. The DVD boots into the installation setup, but when I click "Install now" and am asked to load "A required CD/DVD drive device". When I click "Browse" I can browse the installation dvd and the drive I want to install to. I have tried all the SATA options in the bios already. • insert system disk error after switchting SATA cables

  I have 5 hard disks built in my computer, two connected by IDE cables, three by SATA. Today I had to return two of the SATA cables to my room mate. So I grabbed another one I had floating around and connected the remaining disk by unplugging my DVD R/W. Now I receive the 'insert system disk and press enter' error after booting. Disks and cables seem to be fine, since all the disks are recognized in the BIOS. Also, I can mount the disks using a live CD w/o problems. I also tried different orderings of the cables (i.e. plugging the disks in different plugs on the mainboard), I'm not sure if that even matters using SATA. Any Ideas what might be the problem here? The OS installed are Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10, the bootloader installed is GRUB. PS: No RAID involved, JBOD.

  Hello, I tried installing MediaPortal (http://www.team-mediaportal.com) on my old system. I installed & tried both beta & stable releases: Here's the old system specs: Windows XP SP3; 512mb DDR; 80GB IDE; K-World PVR-TV7131 Analog TV-Tuner; Inno3d FX5500 128mb 64bit; When scanning through the TV-Server, it crashes. I don't know if the incompatibility comes from the hardware or the OS, but my TV Tuner's own Media center app works well. For now, that's what im using. Anyone here familiar with MediaPortal?   Is it possible to install the Windows Mobile SDK without having Visual Studio? I am using SharpDevelop to write a Windows Mobile application, but I need to use an assembly in the Windows Mobile 6.0 SDK. When I try to install the SDK I get a message that says Visual Studio is a prerequisite, and I am un able to install it. Is there a way to trick it in to thinking Visual Studio is installed; maybe a registry entry that can be added or something, or am I just hosed? • Windows XP Disc: corrupt or not corrupt?

  Hi all, I just finished one of my builds and am trying to install Windows XP onto it. Here are the specs beforehand... Intel Pentium 4 Northwood 2.4 GHz (512KB L2, 533MHz FSB) QDI Superb 4 Motherboard 2x 1GB PC3200 DDR RAM Seagate 80GB IDE HDD Bestec 250W PSU 16MB NVIDIA TNT2 Pro Samsung DVD-ROM USB 2.0 PCI Card Generic PCI Modem The issue right now is that when I'm running through the Windows Setup from my XP Pro SP3 disc, partway through the setup says that a random file on the disc is corrupt and the computer needs to be restarted. Every time I tried booting it up, a different file was noted as corrupt. However, I tested the same disc on another computer and the Windows XP disc ran to the end of the setup screen without error. I tried this on another computer and the same thing. What could possibly be happening on this one build to cause it errors during the Windows Setup? Thanks in advance.

  I'm looking to replace my 5 year old laptop. I want my next laptop to endure at least this long. I typically have Thunderbird, Firefox, Eclipse Java IDE, Skype, a ssh session, and Apache Tomcat running. I'm currently running Karmic Ubuntu, but am agnostic about operating system and would move to Win 7 or OS X. I frequently travel with this computer. I also value battery longevity and power conservation (if possible). Above all I'm looking to minimize cost. I think the hardware that best meets my needs is an Intel i7 processor, 8 GB RAM, 100GB @7200 rpm or SSD hardrive, and about 15 inch monitor. These specs are met by most brands. Does anyone know specific pros/cons and build quality for Macbook Pro, Lenovo Thinkpad (W510 or T510), Sony's VPC-F1190, and ASUS G Series G73JH-X1 NoteBook? Are all i7 processors created equal? Do you have other suggestion that meet my needs?

• Only some motherboards can support faster RAM?

  This is a question relating to one of my builds. Here are the specs: ECS P4VXASD2+ V5.0 motherboard Intel P4 Northwood 2.8 GHz (533 MHz FSB, 512 KB L2) 2x 1GB PC3200 DDR RAM Maxtor 300GB IDE HDD 16 MB NVIDIA TNT2 Pro AGP OKIA 300W ATX PSU Gigabyte 52x CD-ROM The issue right now is that I'm trying to install Windows XP from the CD drive but the computer randomly restarts partway through installation. My other build was BSODing due to RAM latency errors. This ECS board manual states that memory modules "up to 333 MHz" (i.e. PC2700) is supported. However, I am running PC3200 modules, which is clearly faster than PC2700. Would this be causing the computer from randomly restarting? EDIT 1: I also wanted to mention that my Emachines T2482 is actually running 2x 512MB PC3200 DDR RAM when it should only be supporting PC1600 and PC2100 DDR RAM. Yet there are no issues with it.

• Error installing Windows7 64 bits on VirtualBox

  I am trying to set up Windows in Virtual Box, so I don't need to reboot in the rare occasion that I actually need it. The problem is, Virtual Box doesn't preform any errors when I insert the 32bit installation CD but when I try to use the 64bit installation; What!? I am already using the installation disc! I've checked my BIOS to see if I have SVM (AMD's version of VT) disabled and all I see is "Enabled" I have a K9N6PGM2-V2 motherboard A Triple Core AMD Athlon II A Nvdia NForce 430 integrated graphics card 4GB of RAM An 80GB IDE And a 1TB SATA I don't think the last three specifications matter but just in case XP I am pretty sure the CD isn't broken ( I am going to make sure in just a moment ), what could be the cause to this problem? Edit: The 64bit installation CD is not broken, but I found out when trying to install from the 32bit version that it's trying to upgrade, not preform a fresh install - Odd.
