  Here is a silly question. Lets say I have a query that produces for a list box, and it produces values for three stores Store A 18 Store B 32 Store C 54 Now if I ORDER BY in the sql statement the only thing it will do is descending or ascending alphabetically but I want a certain order (only because THEY WANT A CERTAIN ORDER) .....so is there a way for me to add something to the SQL to get Store B Store C Store A i.e. basically row by row what i want. thanks!

  In my World of Warcraft addon, I want to set the cursor to a certain image. I do this using SetCursor. Problem is, whenever the cursor exits my frame and hovers over the WorldFrame, the cursor is reset back to the normal one. I know of a certain addon that does overcome this problem, but I am not too sure how, because its source code is messy as hell. (The addon is Gryphonheart Items, in case you asked yourself.) How do I make the cursor stay?

What i need is an algorithm that indexes the content of these records. Mainly, the files are Microsoft office, PDF and TXT documents. anyone can help? whether with ideas, links, books or codes, I appreciate it :) example: if i search for the word "international" in a certain folder in the database, i get all the files that contain that word ordered by a certain criteria such as relevance, modifying date...etc

• GAE/JDO: How to check whether a field in a detached object was loaded

  My DAO detaches and then caches certain objects, and it may retrieve them with different fetch groups. Depending on which fetch group was used to retrieve the object, certain fields of that object may be available, or not. I would like to be able to test whether a given field on that object was loaded or not, but I can't simply check whether the field is null because that results in a "JDODetachedFieldAccessException" which demands that I either not access the field or add detach the field first. I could always catch that exception, but that doesn't smell right. So, does anyone know whether its possible to check if the field was detached?

• Doubt about adopting CI (Hudson) into an existing automated Build Process (phing, svn)

  OUR CURRENT BUILD PROCESS We're a small team of developers (2 to 4 people depending on project) who currently use Phing to deploy code to a staging environment, before going live. We keep our code in a SVN repo, where the trunk holds current active development and, at certain times, we do make branches that we test and then (if successful), tag and export to the staging env. If everything goes well there too, we finally deploy'em in production servers. Actions are highly automated, but always triggered by human intervention. THE DOUBT We'd now like to introduce Continuous Integration (with Hudson) in the process; unfortunately we have a few doubts about activity syncing, since we're afraid that CI could somewhat interfere with our build process and cause certain problems. Considering that an automated CI cycle has a certain frequency of automatically executed actions, we in fact only see 2 possible cases for "integration", each with its own problems: Case A: each CI cycle produces a new branch with its own name; we do use such a name to manually (through phing as it happens now) export the code from the SVN to the staging env. The problem I see here is that (unless specific countermeasures are taken) the number of branches we have can grow out of control (let's suppose we commit often, so that we have a fresh new build/branch every N minutes). Case B: each CI cycle creates a new branch named 'current', for instance, which is tagged with a unique name only when we manually decide to export it to staging; the current branch, at any case is then deleted, as soon as the next CI cycle starts up. The problem we see here is that a new cycle could kick in while someone is tagging/exporting the 'current' branch to staging thus creating an inconsistent build (but maybe here I'm just too pessimist, since I confess I don't know whether SVN offers some built-in protection against this). With all this being said, I was wondering if anyone with similar experiences could be so kind to give us some hints on the subject, since none of the approaches depicted above looks completely satisfing to us. Is there something important we just completely left off in the overall picture? Thanks for your attention &, in advance, for your help!

• How to stop a QDialog from executing while still in the __init__ statement(or immediatly after)?

  I am wondering how I can go about stopping a dialog from opening if certain conditions are met in its __init__ statement. The following code tries to call the 'self.close()' function and it does, but (I'm assuming) since the dialog has not yet started its event loop, that it doesn't trigger the close event? So is there another way to close and/or stop the dialog from opening without triggering an event? • How do you model roles / relationships with Domain Driven Design in mind?

  If I have three entities, Project, ProjectRole and Person, where a Person can be a member of different Projects and be in different Project Roles (such as "Project Lead", or "Project Member") - how would you model such a relationship? In the database, I currently have the following tablers: Project, Person, ProjectRole Project_Person with PersonId & ProjectId as PK and a ProjectRoleId as a FK Relationship. I'm really at a loss here since all domain models I come up with seem to break some "DDD" rule. Are there any 'standards' for this problem? I had a look at a Streamlined Object Modeling and there is an example what a Project and ProjectMember would look like, but AddProjectMember() in Project would call ProjectMember.AddProject(). So Project has a List of ProjectMembers, and each ProjectMember in return has a reference to the Project. Looks a bit convoluted to me. update After reading more about this subject, I will try the following: There are distinct roles, or better, model relationships, that are of a certain role type within my domain. For instance, ProjectMember is a distinct role that tells us something about the relationship a Person plays within a Project. It contains a ProjectMembershipType that tells us more about the Role it will play. I do know for certain that persons will have to play roles inside a project, so I will model that relationship. ProjectMembershipTypes can be created and modified. These can be "Project Leader", "Developer", "External Adviser", or something different. A person can have many roles inside a project, and these roles can start and end at a certain date. • VB6 App + .Net component working as compiled app but not in VB6 IDE

  I have a VB6 App that uses a .Net component (via a .tlb reference in the VB6 app) which is working fine when executed as a compiled app, but it produces an error from the VB6 IDE a certain point when it is trying to use the .NET component. I should note that the error occurs when the .NET component is meant to be invoking a third party reporting component. What could the problem be? Could the VB6 IDE be looking in a different location for certain DLLs? The .tlb is in the same location as the application executable so I don't why there should be a problem. I need to have the application running in the IDE in order to debug and step through the code.

• audioPlayerDidFinishPlaying not being called during scrolling UITableView

  One of my views is a UITableView which acts as the delegate for an AVAudioPlayer and this table essentially plays sounds when you select a certain row with options to repeat the sound after its finished playing. However, I noticed that if I select a cell with repeat ON for a certain sound and then scroll through the UITableView to select a different sound, it will not call audioPlayerDidFinishPlaying (and therefore not repeat) until after scrolling has stopped. As soon as I stop scrolling, it repeats just fine. Or if I don't scroll at all, it repeats just fine. What could be happening during scrolling that the UITableView is no longer acting as the delegate and calling audioPlayerDidFinishPlaying? Any thoughts?

• XML: Process large data

  Hello What XML-parser do you recommend for the following purpose: The XML-file (formatted, containing whitespaces) is around 800 MB. It mostly contains three types of tag (let's call them n, w and r). They have an attribute called id which i'd have to search for, as fast as possible. Removing attributes I don't need could save around 30%, maybe a bit more. First part for optimizing the second part: Is there any good tool (command line linux and windows if possible) to easily remove unused attributes in certain tags? I know that XSLT could be used. Or are there any easy alternatives? Also, I could split it into three files, one for each tag to gain speed for later parsing... Speed is not too important for this preparation of the data, of course it would be nice when it took rather minutes than hours. Second part: Once I have the data prepared, be it shortened or not, I should be able to search for the ID-attribute I was mentioning, this being time-critical. Estimations using wc -l tell me that there are around 3M N-tags and around 418K W-tags. The latter ones can contain up to approximately 20 subtags each. W-Tags also contain some, but they would be stripped away. "All I have to do" is navigating between tags containing certain id-attributes. Some tags have references to other id's, therefore giving me a tree, maybe even a graph. The original data is big (as mentioned), but the resultset shouldn't be too big as I only have to pick out certain elements. Now the question: What XML parsing library should I use for this kind of processing? I would use Java 6 in a first instance, with having in mind to be porting it to BlackBerry. Might it be useful to just create a flat file indexing the id's and pointing to an offset in the file? Is it even necessary to do the optimizations mentioned in the upper part? Or are there parser known to be quite as fast with the original data? Little note: To test, I took the id being on the very last line on the file and searching for the id using grep. This took around a minute on a Core 2 Duo. What happens if the file grows even bigger, let's say 5 GB? I appreciate any notice or recommendation. Thank you all very much in advance and regards

• Loading fixtures in django unit tests

  I'm trying to start writing unit tests for django and I'm having some questions about fixtures: I made a fixture of my whole project db (not certain application) and I want to load it for each test, because it looks like loading only the fixture for certain app won't be enough. I'd like to have the fixture stored in /proj_folder/fixtures/proj_fixture.json. I've set the FIXTURE_DIRS = ('/fixtures/',) in my settings.py. Then in my testcase I'm trying fixtures = ['proj_fixture.json'] but my fixtures don't load. How can this be solved? How to add the place for searching fixtures? In general, is it ok to load the fixture for the whole test_db for each test in each app (if it's quite small)? Thanks!

  Just a sidenote: I'm not sure whether I should post this to serverfault as well, because some MOSS admin may have some info for me as well? A bit of explanation first (without Asp.net MVC) Is it possible to integrate the two? Is it possible to write an application that would share at least credential information with MOSS? I have to write a MOSS application that has to do with these technologies: MOSS 2010 Personal client certificates authentication (most probably on USB keys) Active Directory Federation Services Separate SQL DB that would serve application specific data (separate as not being part of MOSS DB) How should it work? Users should authenticate using personal certificates into MOSS 2010 There would be a certain part of MOSS that would be related to my custom application This application should only authorize certain users via AD FS - I guess these users should have a certain security claim attached to them This application should manage users (that have access to this app) with additional (app specific) security claims related to this application (as additional application level authorization rights for individual application parts) This application should use custom SQL 2008 DB heavily with its own data This application should have the possibility to integrate with external systems as well (Exchange for instance to inject calendar entries, ERP systems etc) This application should be able to export its data (from its DB) to files. I don't know if it's possible, but it would be nice if the app could add these files to MOSS and attach authorization info to them so only users with sufficient rights would be able to view/open these files. Why Asp.net MVC then? I'm very well versed in Asp.net MVC (also with the latest version) and I haven't done anything on Sharepoint since version 2003 (which doesn't do me no good or prepare me for the latest version in any way shape or form). This project will most probably be a death march project so I would rather write my application as a UI rich Asp.net MVC application and somehow integrate it into MOSS. But not only via a link, because I would like to at least share credentials, so users wouldn't need to re-login when accessing my app. Using Asp.net MVC I would at least have the possibility to finish on time or be less death marching. Is this at all possible? Questions Is it possible to integrate Asp.net MVC into MOSS as described above? If integration is not possible, would it be possible to create a completely MOSS based application that would work as described? Which parts of MOSS 2010 should I use to accomplish what I need?

  I have a Dictionary to map a certain type to a certain generic object for that type. For example: typeof(LoginMessage) maps to MessageProcessor<LoginMessage> Now the problem is to retrieve this generic object at runtime from the Dictionary. Or to be more specific: To cast the retrieved object to the specific generic type. I need it to work something like this: Type key = message.GetType(); MessageProcessor<key> processor = messageProcessors[key] as MessageProcessor<key>; Hope there is a easy solution to this. Edit: I do not want to use Ifs and switches. Due to performance issues I cannot use reflection of some sort either.

  Hi, I have a nested list of ul elements. I would like to decrease the font size by a couple of pixels for each level down. So for example the first li elements would have font size 18px, then nested elements of that would have font size 16px and any nested elements of that would have font size 14px etc. However once the font size gets to a certain size e.g. 8px I would like to stop making them any smaller. These lists are generated on the fly so I have no way of knowing how deep they are going to be so can't just hard code the css to a certain level. Is there a way in css or JQuery where I could apply this type of formatting?

• Why is the JVM stack-based and the DalvikVM register based?

  I'm curious, why did Sun decide to make the JVM stack-based and Google decide to make the DalvikVM register based? I suppose the JVM can't really assume that a certain number of registers are available on the target platform, since it is supposed to be platform independent. Therefor it just postpones the register-allocation etc, to the JIT compiler. (Correct me if I'm wrong.) So the Android guys thought, "hey, that's inefficient, let's go for a register based vm right away..."? But wait, there are multiple different android devices, what number of registers did the Dalvik target? Are the Dalvik opcodes hardcoded for a certain number of registers? Do all current Android devices on the market have about the same number of registers? Or, is there a register re-allocation performed during dex-loading? How does all this fit together?

  I have a bunch of long-running scripts and applications that are storing output results in a directory shared amongst a few users. I would like a way to make sure that every file and directory created under this shared directory automatically had u=rwxg=rwxo=r permissions. I know that I could use umask 006 at the head off my various scripts, but I don't like that approach as many users write their own scripts and may forget to set the umask themselves. I really just want the filesystem to set newly created files and directories with a certain permission if it is in a certain folder. Is this at all possible? Update: I think it can be done with POSIX ACLs, using the Default ACL functionality, but it's all a bit over my head at the moment. If anybody can explain how to use Default ACLs it would probably answer this question nicely.

  Hi there, I'm using dojo for our UI's, and would like to load certain part of page contents in sequence. For example, for a certain stock, I'd like to load stock general information, such as ticker, company name, key stats, etc. and a grid with the last 30 days open/close prices. Different contents will be fetched from the server separately. Now, I'd like first load the grid so the user can have something to look at, then, say, start loading of key stats which is a large data set takes longer time to load. How do I do this. I tried: dojo.addOnLoad(function() { startGrid(); //mock grid startup function which works fine getKeyStats(); //mock key stat getter function also works fine }); But dojo is loading getKeyStats(), then startGrid() here for some reason, and sequence doesn't seem be matter here.   I have a SQL Server 2005 database with some Stored Procedures (SP) that I would like to debug...essentially I would just like to check variable values at certain points throughout the SP execution. I have SSMS 2008, but when I try to use the debugger, I get an error that it can't debug SQL Server 2005 databases. And I can't use the Visual Studio debugger (by stepping into the SP via Server Explorer) because Remote Debugging is blocked by our firewall, and I'm rightfully not allowed to touch the firewall. So my question is how can I check variable values at certain points in the SP execution? Is there some way to output those values somewhere, perhaps along with some text?

  Hi, I'm about to implement an RESTful API to our website (based on WCF data services, but that probably does not matter). All data offered via this API belongs to certain users of my server, so I need to make sure only those users have access to my resources. For this reason, all requests have to be performed with a login/password combination as part of the request. What's the recommended approach for preventing brute force attacks in this scenario? I was thinking of logging failed requests denied due to wrong credentials and ignoring requests originating from the same IP after a certain threshold of failed requests has been exceeded. • Calling activateWindow on QDialog sends window to background

  I am debugging certain application written with C++/Qt4. On Linux it has problems that with certain window managers (gnome-wm/metacity), the main window (based on QDialog) is created in the background (it's not raised). I managed to re-create the scenario using PyQt4 and following code: from PyQt4.QtCore import * from PyQt4.QtGui import * import sys class PinDialog(QDialog): def showEvent(self, event): QDialog.showEvent(self, event) self.raise_() self.activateWindow() if __name__ == "__main__": app = QApplication(sys.argv) widget = PinDialog() app.setActiveWindow(widget) widget.exec_() sys.exit(0) If I remove self.activateWindow() the application works as expected. This seems wrong, since documentation for activateWindow does not specify any conditions under which something like this could happen. My question is: Is there any reason to have activateWindow in showEvent in the first place? If there is some reason, what would be good workaround for focusing issues?

• Do you have a development IDE hotkey set in AutoHotkey?

  I've recently rejoined the AutoHotkey band wagon, and I've been setting up a master script for myself. Generally, I have a few global hotkeys, for doing things like popping open the calculator, and frequently used solutions. I even have a hotkey to restart certain local windows services, I've also got several contextual hotkeys that are only available when certain programs are active, but I don't have anything so far for my common IDE's. I generally develop in VS2008/2010 these days and they have a pretty robust shortcut and code snippet system. Still, I can't help but wonder if anyone out there has come up with a useful set of hotkeys/hotstrings in AutoHotKey for their favorite development environments? I haven't seen much out there, but I'm always interested in ways to cut back my mundane tasks with automation. Does anyone have any AutoHotkey scripts they use primarily for development?
