• How do I re-activate Windows 7 after Windows has decided it is no longer genuine after an update?

  Windows just recently decided that it was no longer genuine and it keeps telling me that I need to re-activate. However, the dialog that pops up asking me if I want to make it genuine seems to crash or give a fatal error: 0xD000006. I've looked in Properties page for My Computer in the Windows Activation section and it simply says: Status Not Available Product ID Not Available And there is no option to activate. I'd prefer to not have to reinstall Windows 7, so any leads would be greatly appreciated. I've tried re-activating using slui.exe as suggested in the answers below, but when I do that I get the following error dialog. I'm not quite sure what to do now and the thought of being on hold with Microsoft is not terribly appealing to me. Thanks.

• Reduce munin logging level

  Munin is quite verbose, and logs a bunch of things into munin-graph.log, munin-html.log, munin-limits.log and munin-update.log at each run of munin-cron. I already reduced munin-node logging level by setting log_level 0 in munin-node.conf, and that works well. munin-node.log only gets updated when an error message is generated. However I also tried to add the same option in munin.conf, but it makes munin crash. How one can reduce the amount of logs written by munin?

• Unlock file on Windows Server 2003 by remote desktop without rebooting

  We've several Windows Server 2003 machines running, each with its own purposes. There are scheduled jobs which synchronizes some files over SFTP using WinSCP. Very sometimes a newly copied file is left locked in the "inbox" folder without any reason. The machine's own background task (programmed in Java) can't move it to the "processed" folder anymore after processing it. Manually moving it only yields the well known error message Cannot move [filename]: it is being used by another person or program. The only resort is to reboot the machine, but we would of course like to avoid that. Any suggestions? I tried Unlocker which works fine locally at WinXP, but doesn't work at those Win2K3 machines by remote desktop (unlock option doesn't show up in rightclick context menu). I tried Process Explorer as well as described in this blog article, but it caused the server to crash (not sure if that's because it's executed through remote desktop).

• Problem with intel chipset 4 serie and centos dealing with dual head

  I've a fujitsu lifebook S7220, it's been a while since i try to configure it to use a dual head with centos 5.4 x86_64. Everytime I try, the xserver crash... I've got an intel chipset mobile 4 serie (GMA 4500MHD, if I recall good!) • How to prevent mod_cluster as single point failure?

  In my configuration i used Apche+mod_cluster as a front_end(load balancer) server and two JBOSS AS 7.1.0 as backend server. In my configuration on one system i have install Apache+mod_cluster + JBOSS AS 7.1.0 and on other system JBOSS AS 7.1.0. Both JBOSS AS 7.1.0 are in domain mode means in clustering. My problem is that if Apche+mod_cluster crash than client can not access any JBOSS AS . I want to configure Apache+mod_cluster in Master_Slave format, means if one of Apache+mod_cluter down another Apache+mod_cluster become active and pass client(browser) request to back-end server in normal form without any interruption. Is there any way to make two Apache+mod_cluster to communicate with each other , means to check health status of each other and if any one get down other Apche+mod_cluster will do it's task ......

  Where exactly does a portable app is running when the usb stick is pulled out without closing that app? Is it in memory? Is it written the on hard disk as temporary files (where exactly is it, appdata or where)? Does that mean the next user of the pc could gain access just clicking that from the system tray and saving to other folders? How about when the system crash and that portable app is not closed the normal way? On the next open, will it stay somewhere on temporary folders?

• Getting kernel errors when manually mounting VirtualBox shared folders

  Updated: I've rephrased this problem as I understand it a bit more now (and have encountered another problem). I'm using a Fedora 15 guest on a Windows 7 host using VirtualBox. I am trying to mount a partition on the host PC as a shared folder for use in the guest. The folder appears in /media and is accessible when I use the auto-mount feature when setting up the shared folder, but when I attempt to mount without auto-mount I get the following error: $ sudo mount.vboxsf data /mnt/host_data /sbin/mount.vboxsf: Could not add an entry to the mount table.: Invalid argument In addition a popup appears (part of Fedora/GNOME) reporting a crash in the kernel package: WARNING: at lib/list_debug.c:26 __list_add+0x3e/0x81() However the shared folder seems to work, I can certainly browse it (although everything seems to be executable, probably down to a Windows host). Is there something wrong with what I'm doing or is this a bug (and in which case should it be reported to the Linux Kernel team or VirtualBox)?

• How do I set "MaxPermSize" for Atlassian Fisheye/Crucible running as service on Win2k3?

  I have been trying to setup Atlassian Fisheye/Crucible as a service on Win 2K3 R2 for two weeks. I keep getting various "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space" errors, which crash Fisheye and force me to restart the service. I've followed the example on the Atlassian support site to configure MaxPermSize within the service wrapper. However, when I check SysInfo inside the Fisheye Admin pages and the debug log, I don't see any confirmation. The Java Heap info is in both places, so I'd expect the MaxPermSize setting to show up in both places. The error is persisting and Atlassian support has been little help. I appreciate any help.

• Outlook items suddenly disapears from inbox after synchronization

  We had some disk problems on Exchange server. We had to fix the Exchange 2007 using eseutil. Everything works fine excpet of following problem with one e-mail account: All inbox messages of mentioned e-mail account are fully accessible through the OWA. When any user creates new Outlook profile (using .OST mode) and starts synchronizing, all inbox messages are visible in the Outlook's inbox folder untill the Inbox synchronizing is completed. Once the synchronizing progress bar reaches 100% (and the Outlook starts synchronizing Sent items or another folder), most of messages disappears from the inbox view of the Outlook. The .OST file size does not reduce. New mails (delivered after Exchange server crash) remains all in the inbox. There is no special view or filter applied in the Outlook. The problem has been reproduced on two different computers (Vista+Office2007, Win7+Office2010). We assume there is some problem on the Exchange server but we don't know how to fix it. Can anybody give us some advice?

  On a new install of Windows Server 2008, I attempting to use ssh to connect to another host. I have installed putty/openssh. This works without a problem when trying a command such as: ssh 192.168.0.2 However, this will crash when trying something like: ssh testserver with the error as follows in the windows event viewer: Faulting application ssh.exe, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x40843497, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 6.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x4791a76d, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0004bbb8, process id 0xe94, application start time 0x01cb873195e795d5. • How to rename a BTRFS subvolume?

  I have a BTRFS filesystem with a set of subvolumes in it. So far so good. I need to change the name of a subvolume, unfortunately the btrfs program does not allow me to rename a subvolume. Searching with Google has yielded some results, one said I can just mv, the other said I can just snapshot to a new name and delete the old subvolume. Before I crash my partition and have to reload it from the backup (it's quite large), my question is: What is the currently best way to rename a subvolume? Is it ok to just mv it, or will it invalidate some internal structures? Is making a new snapshot and removing the old subvolume the way to go, or has this some drawbacks? I know everything is still experimental, but for my purposes it has been working quite well (so far, and I have incremental backups for each day).

• Windows 7 x64: 3900mb of 4gb RAM usage, even when (almost) nothing running.

  As the title suggests, I am having a problem with memory usage. I have had my computer (Vaio AW11Z/B laptop) for over a year now, and it was running perfectly until I guess a day or two ago. Now programs randomly crash, the mouse lags around the screen and the memory usage is going through the roof for no apparent reason. I am having exactly the same problem as this guy: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7performance/thread/1f716693-0a46-473e-9dc0-8c2b1a058443/. I think he explains it better. Anyone had a similar issue? What's going on? I don't think it's a virus/adware thing. Thanks very much for any help.

I tried to use it as a secondary drive leaving the maxtor as primary and, when I put the computer in sleep state, on wake-up the SATA disk is not recognized anymore until next reboot. Now I'm trying to set it as primary disk (I copied the old HD contents with HD clone), when the computer goes in sleep state, on wake up it doesn't see the disc thus causing my system to crash. I tried the following: BIOS update (Asus M2V motherboard) but the situation worsened as the system didn't wake up from the sleep (with both my HD's) Reinstalling the drivers Bios changes Microsoft Hotfix KB977178 that seemed to address exactly my problem but gave me "The update is not applicable to your computer" message. Disabling hybrid sleep but no results.

  Dear all, This is not a programming issue, just want to ask any one having Internet Explorer Javascript disabled issue. I try go to Internet Option enable everything, including javascript restart it. But all the javascript still disabled. I go to jQuery API website, test the javascript, at the Demo part nothing show. Even I write a alert("hello"); in a html file, nothing come out. I am not sure what happen to my Internet Explorer. Initially I am using IE8, I try to update to IE9Beta, IE9RC, the problem start from IE8-IE9RC still haven't resolved. I am not sure what application crash with the IE. Please advice! It is Urgent.   BSOD constantly and the disk indicator is frozen. Error do not happen immediately, usually an hour after boot up. Here is the Minidump: Bug Check Code = 0x00000124 Caused By Driver = ntoskrnl.exe Caused By Address = ntoskrnl.exe+4b094c Crash Address = ntoskrnl.exe+4b094c Seems to be hardware problem, but I checked RAM, no error. I have two HDs installed, system is on SSD, data is on HDD. Checked SSD with the properties-tools-error-checking , no error. Re-installed several times, still happens even after removed HDD. Configuration: SSD: Crucial M4-CT064M4SSD2 with Firmware 0009 Intel HM65 CPU: i7-2630QM The SSD is set correctly, SATA III 6Gb/s enabled, and everything worked perfectly for nearly a year.

• Need Help Debugging BSOD

  For the last few days I've been getting a BSOD at least once a day. Apparently the crash has been caused by ntkrpamp.exe and searching on google has revealed that the issue seems to be related to bad RAM. I have run memtest and my RAM modules have no errors on them. I'm pretty sure the issue is related to drivers, but I can't figure out which one. I'm not an expert in interpreting the output of windbg so any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Here is my analysis with WinDbg. It was too long to paste it here. One strange thing i noticed is that my Windows XP is in Spanish (SP3) and ntkrpamp.exe copyright info seems to be in portuguese. Not sure if that could be an issue, perhaps i have the wrong ntkrpamp.exe... Thanks a lot in advance

• Can't kill process TGitCache.exe

  Sometimes, I suspect when I open a music folder during the right moon phase and during a leap microsecond, this process crashes and pops up an error reporting dialogue. I decline to report the error, because that also fails by now, and choose Exit. Exit just delays the re-appearance of the error reporting dialogue for about 2 seconds. If I try and kill the process using SysInternals' Process Explorer the process is just restarted, only to crash again. So, I'm pretty sure another process, probably a service because TGitCache doesn't have a parent process and no other Git processes are visible, is keeping tabs on this process and restarting it if it dies. This is cruel and inhuman, but how can I find which nanny process is prolonging the agony?

• load balancing two web servers each on two different isp's?

  I have two ISP's that provide me hosting via apache / php / mysql. I am running drupal on them. On occasion the mysql server will go away (crash), so I was hoping to find a reasonable way to have a fail over, if server A SQL is down, all traffic is sent to server B. I know traditionally this is handled in DNS where a second alternate ip is given if there is a problem - or similar. But I do not have control over the isp, other than I can run php, perl and the usual apache stuff. Also, I have static ip's on each isp, and I can create dns entries (A/CNAME/TXT). So, I was hoping there might be a way for me to have a script that checks if drupal has a problem, and if so, somehow alter dns, or ? Or, any other ideas? (other than spending lots more $ on a better isp)

• How much RAM 64bit Windows 8 reserves to OS internal use?

  Windows reserves some memory for it's internal use which is not normally allocated to applications. This reserve is seen most easily if you run without a page file or limit the pagefile to relatively small size (such as 3GB). Windows will allocate primarily RAM up to the limit, fill up remaining free space in the page file (if any) and issue a low memory warning when there is no page file space left and the allocated RAM limit is exceeded. The limit appears to be a percentage of the total system RAM. Windows 7 x64 limit is discussed here and methods for circumventing the "low memory warning" is discussed here. Disabling the low memory warning has some advantages - You can use some 600MB more RAM on 8GB machine) But there is a serious disadvantage - When you're out of ram, programs will crash. How much RAM can you allocate on 8GB Windows 8 x64 before you get the low memory warning? Is it possible to adjust the warning threshold?

• Will the other directories on my C drive still be visible?

  My Windows 7 ate itself, corrupted a few files, now refuses to boot. On the same drive were other directories of various assorted non-Microsoft applications I like to use. After the crash, I have been mounting those from outside (as F:[whatever]). If I go ahead and reinstall Windows 7 on that drive and use the drive again as my primary, will those other directories be visible to it from inside? Meaning if I boot up my new installation of Windows from within that drive, will I be able to see those other old directories via Windows Explorer on the C drive (where any haven't been run over by the reinstalled OS)? • How does one go about fixing a pixelation issue?

  I've been having a lot of trouble with pixelation and also in-game display driver crashes. At first I thought the problem may have been my graphics card (Sapphire 5750) but I have RMA'd it three times and I'm still having trouble. So what I think it might be is my PSU, its 650Watt but its made by Azza so it was cheap and not made by a necessarily good company. Or maybe it could be the CPU (AMD Phenom Black Edition 3.4Ghz) It runs hot (60C) but it passes Everest's test. Someone told me it could be the memory (8GB DDR3) but I don't really see how RAM has anything to do with my problem. So what are some of you suggestions?
