  • Problems with .net and toolbar, menu & status bar rendermode (blue) and standard form (grey)

    - by Andrew White
    Hiya, I'm a bit of a newbie to .NET so please ignore my ignorance. If you look at the above image (a complete prototype, ignore black bits :)) you will see lovely menus, toolbars & statusbars all using windows XP render mode and in a funky blue. Look at the form, labels, checkboxes and other buttons and you see horrible old school windows grey. These components don't have a render mode. My question: is there any way to show everything in XP style or do I have to chose new components? Thx. A.

  • Is there a way to set the minHeight of the scroll bar thumb in Flex 3

    - by Mad Oxyn
    In my project we needed to make the scollbars look like Windows scrollbars. Therefore I have a thumbIcon on the thumb of a vertical scrollbar, but if I get too many items in the combobox, the scrollbar gets fiddly. This is because the margin between the thumbIcon and the border of the thumbSkin is too small. Is there a way to set the minimum height of the thumbSkin so that I can ensure there is always a margin there and it always looks good, even if there are too many items? Image above, see the thumb? By the thumbIcon I mean the 3 horizontal lines. The top and bottom margin between this icon and the border of the thumb itself is too small. This is the normal scroll bar, the thumbIcon and the borders of the thumb have enough margin, which make the scroll bar look a lot better.

  • Typical tasks/problems to demonstrate differences between programming languages

    - by Space_C0wb0y
    Somewhere some guy said (I honestly do not know where I got this from), that one should learn one programming language per year. I can see where that might be a good idea, because you learn new patterns and ways to look at the same problems by solving them in different languages. Typically, when learning a new language, I look at how certain problems are supposed to be solved in that language. My question now is, what, in you experience, are good, simple, and clearly defined tasks that demostrate the differences between programming languages. The Idea here is to have a set of tasks, that, when I solve all of them in the language I am learning, gives me a good overview of how things are supposed to be done in that language. I do not know if that is even possible, but it sure would be a useful thing to have. A typical example one often sees especially in tutorials for functional languages is the implementation of quicksort.

  • Mixed static and dynamic link on Mac OS

    - by barbaz
    I want to use gcc to produce a shared library, but i want to link some other libraries it depends on statically. Now to produce the "standard" dynamically linked output file i use gcc -dynamiclib *.o -lfoo -lbar -o outfile which would be gcc -shared *.o -lfoo -lbar -o outfile on for a binutils ld on a linux system. Now if i want libfoo and libbar to be linked statically, I can name the static libraries directly gcc -dynamiclib *.o /usr/lib/libfoo.a /usr/lib/libbar.a -o outfile however, that way i have to look for the library files myself. GNU binutils ld supports this: gcc -shared *.o -l:libfoo.a -l:libbar.a -o outfile but apple's ld doesnt. Is there a way to make apple's ld look for the static libraries himself? If not, is there another way that would avoid naming the exact location of the archives, e.g. producing an intermediate output file out of the object files requiring libfoo and libbar with the -static switch and linking that file together with the remaining objectfiles to create the dynamic object?

  • google link for the RGBA library?

    - by Navruk
    I want google link for the RGBA library <script type='text/javascript' src='jquery.color-RGBa-patch.js'></script> This file contains /* * jQuery Color Animations */ (function(jQuery){ // We override the animation for all of these color styles jQuery.each(['backgroundColor', 'borderBottomColor', 'borderLeftColor', 'borderRightColor', 'borderTopColor', 'color', 'outlineColor'], function(i,attr){ jQuery.fx.step[attr] = function(fx){ if ( fx.colorFunction == undefined || fx.state == 0 ) { fx.start = getColor( fx.elem, attr ); fx.end = getRGB( fx.end ); if ( fx.start == undefined ) { fx.start = [ 255,255,255,0 ]; } else { if ( fx.start[3] == undefined ) // if alpha channel is not spotted fx.start[3] = 1; // assume it is fully opaque if ( fx.start[3] == 0 ) // if alpha is present and fully transparent fx.start[0] = fx.start[1] = fx.start[2] = 255; // assume starting with white } if ( fx.end[3] == undefined ) // if alpha channel is not spotted fx.end[3] = 1; // assume it is fully opaque fx.colorFunction = ( fx.start[3] == 1 && fx.end[3] == 1 ? calcRGB : calcRGBa ); } fx.elem.style[attr] = fx.colorFunction(); } }); var calcRGB = function() { return 'rgb(' + Math.max(Math.min( parseInt((this.pos * (this.end[0] - this.start[0])) + this.start[0]), 255), 0) + ',' + Math.max(Math.min( parseInt((this.pos * (this.end[1] - this.start[1])) + this.start[1]), 255), 0) + ',' + Math.max(Math.min( parseInt((this.pos * (this.end[2] - this.start[2])) + this.start[2]), 255), 0) + ')'; }; var calcRGBa = function() { return 'rgba(' + Math.max(Math.min( parseInt((this.pos * (this.end[0] - this.start[0])) + this.start[0]), 255), 0) + ',' + Math.max(Math.min( parseInt((this.pos * (this.end[1] - this.start[1])) + this.start[1]), 255), 0) + ',' + Math.max(Math.min( parseInt((this.pos * (this.end[2] - this.start[2])) + this.start[2]), 255), 0) + ',' + Math.max(Math.min( parseFloat((this.pos * (this.end[3] - this.start[3])) + this.start[3]), 1), 0) + ')'; }; // Color Conversion functions from highlightFade // By Blair Mitchelmore // http://jquery.offput.ca/highlightFade/ // Parse strings looking for color tuples [255,255,255] function getRGB(color) { var result; // Check if we're already dealing with an array of colors if ( color && color.constructor == Array && color.length >= 3 ) return color; // Look for rgb(num,num,num) if (result = /rgba?\(\s*([0-9]{1,3})\s*,\s*([0-9]{1,3})\s*,\s*([0-9]{1,3})\s*,?\s*((?:[0-9](?:\.[0-9]+)?)?)\s*\)/.exec(color)) return [ parseInt(result[1]), parseInt(result[2]), parseInt(result[3]), parseFloat(result[4]||1) ]; // Look for rgb(num%,num%,num%) if (result = /rgba?\(\s*([0-9]+(?:\.[0-9]+)?)\%\s*,\s*([0-9]+(?:\.[0-9]+)?)\%\s*,\s*([0-9]+(?:\.[0-9]+)?)\%\s*,?\s*((?:[0-9](?:\.[0-9]+)?)?)\s*\)/.exec(color)) return [parseFloat(result[1])*2.55, parseFloat(result[2])*2.55, parseFloat(result[3])*2.55, parseFloat(result[4]||1)]; // Look for #a0b1c2 if (result = /#([a-fA-F0-9]{2})([a-fA-F0-9]{2})([a-fA-F0-9]{2})/.exec(color)) return [parseInt(result[1],16), parseInt(result[2],16), parseInt(result[3],16)]; // Look for #fff if (result = /#([a-fA-F0-9])([a-fA-F0-9])([a-fA-F0-9])/.exec(color)) return [parseInt(result[1]+result[1],16), parseInt(result[2]+result[2],16), parseInt(result[3]+result[3],16)]; // Otherwise, we're most likely dealing with a named color var colorName = jQuery.trim(color).toLowerCase(); if ( colors[colorName] != undefined ) return colors[colorName]; return [ 255, 255, 255, 0 ]; } function getColor(elem, attr) { var color; do { color = jQuery.curCSS(elem, attr); // Keep going until we find an element that has color, or we hit the body if ( color != '' && color != 'transparent' || jQuery.nodeName(elem, "body") ) break; attr = "backgroundColor"; } while ( elem = elem.parentNode ); return getRGB(color); }; // Some named colors to work with // From Interface by Stefan Petre // http://interface.eyecon.ro/ var colors = { aqua:[0,255,255], azure:[240,255,255], beige:[245,245,220], black:[0,0,0], blue:[0,0,255], brown:[165,42,42], cyan:[0,255,255], darkblue:[0,0,139], darkcyan:[0,139,139], darkgrey:[169,169,169], darkgreen:[0,100,0], darkkhaki:[189,183,107], darkmagenta:[139,0,139], darkolivegreen:[85,107,47], darkorange:[255,140,0], darkorchid:[153,50,204], darkred:[139,0,0], darksalmon:[233,150,122], darkviolet:[148,0,211], fuchsia:[255,0,255], gold:[255,215,0], green:[0,128,0], indigo:[75,0,130], khaki:[240,230,140], lightblue:[173,216,230], lightcyan:[224,255,255], lightgreen:[144,238,144], lightgrey:[211,211,211], lightpink:[255,182,193], lightyellow:[255,255,224], lime:[0,255,0], magenta:[255,0,255], maroon:[128,0,0], navy:[0,0,128], olive:[128,128,0], orange:[255,165,0], pink:[255,192,203], purple:[128,0,128], violet:[128,0,128], red:[255,0,0], silver:[192,192,192], white:[255,255,255], yellow:[255,255,0] }; })(jQuery);

  • Querying Two Tables At Once

    - by John
    Hello, I am trying to do what I believe is called a join query. First, in a MySQL table called "login," I want to look up what "loginid" is in the record where "username" equals $profile. (This will be just one record / row in the MySQL table). Then, I want to take that "loginid" and look up all rows / records in a different MySQL table called "submission," and pull data that have that "loginid." This could possibly be more than one record / row. How do I do this? The code below doesn't seem to work. Thanks in advance, John $profile = mysql_real_escape_string($_GET['profile']); $sqlStr = "SELECT l.username, l.loginid, s.loginid, s.submissionid, s.title, s.url, s.datesubmitted, s.displayurl FROM submission AS s, login AS l WHERE l.username = '$profile', s.loginid = l.loginid ORDER BY s.datesubmitted DESC";

  • C++/MFC: Handling multiple CListCtrl's headers HDN_ITEMCLICK events

    - by raph.amiard
    I'm coding an MFC application in which i have a dialog box with multiple CListCtrls in report view. I want one of them to be sortable. So i handled the HDM_ITEMCLICK event, and everything works just fine .. Except that if i click on the headers of another CListCtrl, it does sort the OTHER CListCtrl, which does look kind of dumb. This is apparently due to the fact that headers have an ID of 0, which make the entry in the message map look like this : ON_NOTIFY(HDN_ITEMCLICK, 0, &Ccreationprogramme::OnHdnItemclickList5) But since all the headers have an id of zero, apparently every header of my dialog sends the message. Is there an easy way around this problem ?

  • Need help using ThemeRoller

    - by Music Magi
    Hi - I'm using DataTables to dress up a table I'm using to display XML results based on an XSL transformation. I have everything working from a technical sense (paging, sorting, filtering), but I'm trying to figure out to use a ThemeRoller theme to make it look like they have on their website. So far, I have added the following file to my project with its reference: <link type="text/css" href="css/custom-theme/jquery-ui-1.8.7.custom.css" rel="stylesheet"/> and enabled ThemeRoller themes using the following as per the DataTables website: $(document).ready(function() { $('#mainTable').dataTable( { "bJQueryUI": true, "sPaginationType": "two_button" }); }); The table gets styled, but it doesn't look right with the header rows being too wide and things being on multiple lines that should be on one line. Any indication as to what I'm doing wrong? Thanks very much in advance.

  • Intersection of sets Mongodb

    - by afvasd
    Hi everyone I am new to mongo, this is my db design: product := { name: str group: ref, comments: [ ref, ref, ref, ref ] } comments := { ... a bunch of comments stuff } tag := { _id: int, #Need this for online requests tag: str, products: [ {product: ref, score: float}, ... ], comments: [ {comment: ref, score: float}, ...], } So my usage pattern is: GIVEN a product, find comments that have certain tag and sort them accordingly. My current approach involves: Look for that tag object that has tag=myTag pull all the comments out, sorted look for that product where product.name=myProduct pull all the comments out (which are dbrefs by the way) loop through the result of 2, and checking if they are in 4, (this I can do a limit 10) etc. It's pretty inefficient. Any better methods?

  • What interprocess locking calls should I monitor?

    - by Matt Joiner
    I'm monitoring a process with strace/ltrace in the hope to find and intercept a call that checks, and potentially activates some kind of globally shared lock. While I've dealt with and read about several forms of interprocess locking on Linux before, I'm drawing a blank on what to calls to look for. Currently my only suspect is futex() which comes up very early on in the process' execution. Update0 There is some confusion about what I'm after. I'm monitoring an existing process for calls to persistent interprocess memory or equivalent. I'd like to know what system and library calls to look for. I have no intention call these myself, so naturally futex() will come up, I'm sure many libraries will implement their locking calls in terms of this, etc. Update1 I'd like a list of function names or a link to documentation, that I should monitor at the ltrace and strace levels (and specifying which). Any other good advice about how to track and locate the global lock in mind would be great.

  • NSDictionary: Two keys per value?

    - by Derek
    I would like to create an NSDictionary (or something similar) that has two keys per value. It will be for English/Spanish word look-up, where: each value is an array containing all the conjugated verbs in English AND Spanish. each (two) keys contains both an English infinitive (e.g. "to be", "to go") and a Spanish infinitive This way, I can look a word up regardless of language based on the values having two keys per value. Here's an example: keys: "to want" or "querer" values: ["want", "want", "wants", "want", "want", "quiero", "quieres", "quiere", "queremos", "quieren"]

  • HTML element to use as a Javascript message display

    - by javanix
    I have a message display field on my website that I'd like to change the value of via JS. I've been using just a textfield, disabling it, and modifying the value via a JS function (after using a little CSS to make it not look like a text field): <input type="text" id="message" style="background: white; color: black" size="50" disabled> There has to be a better way (for instance, formatting is tricky whenever the message runs over the specified size), but I can't think of it off the top of my head. Can anyone point me in a better direction? Thanks! FYI: I am doing a timer function which I'd like to look something like "HH:MM:SS | 'my message here'"

  • Radio buttons: Replacing the stock round ones with built in android buttons

    - by Aaron Kapitsk
    Hi all, how do I create a group of radio buttons where the buttons look like nice stock android buttons? This is what I have found so far: * The look of radio button can be replaced with 4 drawables. * There is an example of ^^ on the web. This does not work for me. So I have figured out two bad choices: A) Use stock buttons -do the radio logic in java. //Gross B) Render the buttons to drawables set them at runtime //Blah Any ideas are very appreciated. (This is my first question here. Hope it is well formulated.)

  • Browser detection Plugin?

    - by chobo2
    Hi I have a website that I made and I am planning to redo it. The current version of the site used a jquery callout plugin that did not fully work in IE6. This got me thinking about browser detection. At first I was just going to put the supported browsers on the home page but then today on Digg I saw some post about some jquery plugins and wordpress and in the article there was a plugin for detecting IE. So I started to look around for some browser detection plugins. I found a few of them but they where over the top like this one sevenup Its nice but it makes a huge popup and tells them to update. This one is better then another one I found where they basically forced the user to update or they could not continue on the site. So I found this one jquery plugin This one is pretty nice since it looks at the major browsers and does detection on them too expect for chrome which I noticed triggers and an outdated browser with this plugin. So I started to look at the jquery documentation to see if they had a browser detection for chrome this is when I saw that they "Deprecated" and now recommend "Support". So now I am just confused like "Support" seems to be good and I read many posts on this site saying you should use it. But then it does not support stuff like .png detection that might have been useful to me since of that plugin(however I probably will not be using the plugin anymore since I think the author just gave up on it). Plus I don't know if this is something I am looking for at this time. Like I am guessing with "Support" you use it to detect something that is not supported and then do some alternative thing for that browser? For me I am more looking for something to tell the user "Hey look I tested this browser in the these versions of Firefox(3.5+), IE(8+), Opera(9.5+),Chrome(Something), Safari(Something). If your not using these versions you may not being seeing the site how it was intended" Of course I would try to have something shorter then that message but that the gyst. I am also assuming that the site would work in future versions of these browsers. I still check to see if my site works(they usually do) and is half decent in IE 6 but I won't spend hours fixing stuff that might be off in older browsers like IE 6. I won't test my site in older version of other browsers like firefox since I would think the user have to the sense to update so no point testing firefox 2.0 or whatever. So is there a plugin that fits this description? Or can "Support" do what I want? Thanks

  • COMET chat application - IIS7 slows down over time

    - by Yaron
    I have built a chat application which uses this code to push messages to clients (web pages) and to monitor online users and their information. Basically, the code creates and manages a custom thread pool for maintaining the list of connected users & their state. The application was hosted on a shared hosting account (IIS6), and worked fine. After moving the site (ASP.Net App) to a dedicated virtual server it seems I have a problem where IIS7 gets slower and slower as time passes, and my only "solution" is to restart IIS. I am trying to look at the performance counters and have do idea on which one to look.

  • Creating a skin engine in MVC

    - by Joe
    Does anyone have any experience creating a skin engine for asp.net MVC? I know the suggested approach is to use flexible markup with CSS, but I would like the ability for a new view to be dropped in, and the application use that one instead of the default one. Basically, I want to know how to tell the framework (at run time) to look into a specific folder for the views/content, and if the item isn't there to check the default locations. I started to look into how the Oxite blog engine does it, but it seems like that might be a bit much for what I need (I am still looking through it, so I could be wrong.) Any help is appreciated.

  • Walking a hierarchy table with Linq

    - by Retrocoder
    I have a table with two columns, GroupId and ParentId (both are GUIDS). The table forms a hierarchy so I can look for a value in the “GroupId” filed, when I have found it I can look at its ParentId. This ParentId will also appear in the GroupId of a different record. I can use this to walk up the hierarchy tree from any point to the root (root is an empty GUID). What I’d like to do is get a list of records when I know a GroupId. This would be the record with the GroupId and all the parents back to the root record. Is this possible with Linq and if so, can anyone provide a code snippet?

  • Programatically Determining Bin Path

    - by Andy
    I'm working on a web app called pj and there is a bin file and a src folder. The relative paths before I deploy the app will look something like: pj/bin and pj/src/pj/script.py. However, after deployment, the relative paths will look like: pj_dep/deployed/bin and pj_dep/deployed/lib/python2.6/site-packages/pj/script.py Question: Within script.py, I am trying to find the path of a file in the bin directory. This leads to 2 different behaviors in the dev and deployment environment. If I do os.path.join(os.path.dirname(__file__), 'bin') to try to get the path for the dev environment, I will have a different path for the deployment environment. Is there a more generalized way I can find the bin directory so that I do not need to rely on an if statement to determine how many directories to go up based on the current env? This doesn't seem flexible and might cause other issues later on when the code is moved.

I am elaborating my question: Some thing is like this: Suppose you have NXN matrix having the value of N=4 then matrix will look like this: |5 6 9 2| |1 8 4 9| |5 8 1 6| |7 6 3 2| Its a 4X4 square matrix and again if it's upper triangle matrix it will look something like this: |5 6 9 2| |1 8 4 0| |5 8 0 0| |7 0 0 0| I need to generate a generic program in any language to check wether a square matrix is upper trailgle or not.

How should I code it to look like the example I mentioned before?

  • Compressing a hex string in Ruby/Rails

    - by PreciousBodilyFluids
    I'm using MongoDB as a backend for a Rails app I'm building. Mongo, by default, generates 24-character hexadecimal ids for its records to make sharding easier, so my URLs wind up looking like: example.com/companies/4b3fc1400de0690bf2000001/employees/4b3ea6e30de0691552000001 Which is not very pretty. I'd like to stick to the Rails url conventions, but also leave these ids as they are in the database. I think a happy compromise would be to compress these hex ids to shorter collections using more characters, so they'd look something like: example.com/companies/3ewqkvr5nj/employees/9srbsjlb2r Then in my controller I'd reverse the compression, get the original hex id and use that to look up the record. My question is, what's the best way to convert these ids back and forth? I'd of course want them to be as short as possible, but also url-safe and simple to convert. Thanks!
