• Why might stable_sort be affecting my hashtable values?

  I have defined a struct ABC to contain an int ID, string NAME, string LAST_NAME; My procedure is this: Read in a line from an input file. Parse each line into first name and last name and insert into the ABC struct. Also, the struct's ID is given by the number of the input line. Then, push_back the struct into a vector masterlist. I am also hashing these to a hashtable defined as vector< vector , using first name and last name as keywords. That is, If my data is: Garfield Cat Snoopy Dog Cat Man Then for the keyword cash hashes to a vector containing Garfield Cat and Cat Man. I insert the structs into the hashtable using push_back again. The problem is, when I call stable_sort on my masterlist, my hashtable is affected for some reason. I thought it might be happening since the songs are being ordered differently, so I tried making a copy of the masterlist and sorting it and it still affects the hashtable though the original masterlist is unaffected. Any ideas why this might be happening?

  I'm writing a lightweight class whose properties are intended to be publicly accessible, and only sometimes overridden in specific instantiations. There's no provision in the Python language for creating docstrings for class properties, or any sort of properties, for that matter. What is the accepted way, should there be one, to document these properties? Currently I'm doing this sort of thing: class Albatross(object): """A bird with a flight speed exceeding that of an unladen swallow. Properties: """ flight_speed = 691 __doc__ += """ flight_speed (691) The maximum speed that such a bird can attain """ nesting_grounds = "Throatwarbler Man Grove" __doc__ += """ nesting_grounds ("Throatwarbler Man Grove") The locale where these birds congregate to reproduce. """ def __init__(**keyargs): """Initialize the Albatross from the keyword arguments.""" self.__dict__.update(keyargs) Although this style doesn't seem to be expressly forbidden in the docstring style guidelines, it's also not mentioned as an option. The advantage here is that it provides a way to document properties alongside their definitions, while still creating a presentable class docstring, and avoiding having to write comments that reiterate the information from the docstring. I'm still kind of annoyed that I have to actually write the properties twice; I'm considering using the string representations of the values in the docstring to at least avoid duplication of the default values. Is this a heinous breach of the ad hoc community conventions? Is it okay? Is there a better way? For example, it's possible to create a dictionary containing values and docstrings for the properties and then add the contents to the class __dict__ and docstring towards the end of the class declaration; this would alleviate the need to type the property names and values twice. I'm pretty new to python and still working out the details of coding style, so unrelated critiques are also welcome.

• constructor function's object literal returns toString() method but no other method

  I'm very confused with javascript methods defined in objects and the "this" keyword. In the below example, the toString() method is invoked when Mammal object instantiated: function Mammal(name){ this.name=name; this.toString = function(){ return '[Mammal "'+this.name+'"]'; } } var someAnimal = new Mammal('Mr. Biggles'); alert('someAnimal is '+someAnimal); Despite the fact that the toString() method is not invoked on the object someAnimal like this: alert('someAnimal is '+someAnimal.toString()); It still returns 'someAnimal is [Mammal "Mr. Biggles"]' . That doesn't make sense to me because the toString() function is not being called anywhere. Then to add even more confusion, if I change the toString() method to a method I make up such as random(): function Mammal(name){ this.name=name; this.random = function(){ return Math.floor(Math.random() * 15); } } var someAnimal = new Mammal('Mr. Biggles'); alert(someAnimal); It completely ignores the random method (despite the fact that it is defined the same way was the toString() method was) and returns: [object object] Another issue I'm having trouble understanding with inheritance is the value of "this". For example, in the below example function person(w,h){ width.width = w; width.height = h; } function man(w,h,s) { person.call(this, w, h); this.sex = s; } "this" keyword is being send to the person object clearly. However, does "this" refer to the subclass (man) or the super class (person) when the person object receives it? Thanks for clearing up any of the confusion I have with inheritance and object literals in javascript.

• retrieve value from hashtable with clone of key; C#

  I would like to know if there is any possible way to retrieve an item from a hashtable using a key that is identical to the actual key, but a different object. I understand why it is probably not possible, but I would like to see if there is any tricky way to do it. My problem arises from the fact that, being as stupid as I am, I created hashtables with int[] as the keys, with the integer arrays containing indices representing spatial position. I somehow knew that I needed to create a new int[] every time I wanted to add a new entry, but neglected to think that when I generated spatial coordinate arrays later they would be worthless in retrieving the values from my hashtables. Now I am trying to decide whether to rearrange things so that I can store my values in ArrayLists, or whether to search through the list of keys in the Hashtable for the one I need every time I want to get a value, neither of the options being very cool. Unless of course there is a way to get //1 to work like //2! • How to access different domain data using Java script

  Hello there, Here is the issue. Suppose there is a DOMAIN A which is going to be the server containing a PHP Script file. The data from Domain A is to be accessed by a Client at DOMAIN B. I know it cannot be accessed directly using JavaScript. So what I did is, in Domain A I created a a JavaScript file as front-end for the PHP Script which AJAXes the PHP and returns the data. But unfortunately it din't work I came across an example having PHP as a Middle Man in the client side. But I donot want to keep any server side PHP code as a middle man in the client side. • Indexing and Searching Over Word Level Annotation Layers in Lucene

  I have a data set with multiple layers of annotation over the underlying text, such as part-of-tags, chunks from a shallow parser, name entities, and others from various natural language processing (NLP) tools. For a sentence like The man went to the store, the annotations might look like: Word POS Chunk NER ==== === ===== ======== The DT NP Person man NN NP Person went VBD VP - to TO PP - the DT NP Location store NN NP Location I'd like to index a bunch of documents with annotations like these using Lucene and then perform searches across the different layers. An example of a simple query would be to retrieve all documents where Washington is tagged as a person. While I'm not absolutely committed to the notation, syntactically end-users might enter the query as follows: Query: Word=Washington,NER=Person I'd also like to do more complex queries involving the sequential order of annotations across different layers, e.g. find all the documents where there's a word tagged person followed by the words arrived at followed by a word tagged location. Such a query might look like: Query: "NER=Person Word=arrived Word=at NER=Location" What's a good way to go about approaching this with Lucene? Is there anyway to index and search over document fields that contain structured tokens?

  Hello, I'm going to start work on a medium sized application, and i'm planning it's db design. One thing that I'm not sure about is this. I will have many tables which will need internationalization, such as: "membership_options, gender_options, language_options etc" Each of these tables will share common i18n fields, like: "title, alternative_title, short_description, description" In your opinion which is the best way to do it? Have an i18n table with the same fields for each of the tables that will need them? or do something like: Membership table Gender table ---------------- -------------- id | created_at id | created_at 1 - 22.03.2001 1 - 14.08.2002 2 - 22.03.2001 2 - 14.08.2002 General translation table ------------------------- record_id | table_name | string_name | alternative_title| .... |id_language 1 - membership regular null 1 (english) 1 - membership normale null 2 (italian) 1 - gender man null 1(english) 1 -gender uomo null 2(italian) This would avoid me repeating something like: membership_translation table ----------------------------- membership_id | name | alternative_title | id_lang 1 regular null 1 1 normale null 2 gender_translation table ----------------------------- gender_id | name | alternative_title | id_lang 1 man null 1 1 uomo null 2 and so on, so i would probably reduce the number of db tables, but i'm not sure about performance.I'm not much of a DB designer, so please let me know.

I have a remote SPARQL endpoint and I've already written a simple query which works fine but now I need to use some parameters.   Hi All, Question 1 From SUSE man pages, I get the below details for socket connect options If the initiating socket is connection-mode, then connect() shall attempt to establish a connection to the address specified by the address argument. If the connection cannot be established immediately and O_NONBLOCK is not set for the file descriptor for the socket, connect() shall block for up to an unspecified timeout interval until the connection is established. If the timeout interval expires before the connection is established, connect() shall fail and the connection attempt shall be aborted. If connect() is interrupted by a signal that is caught while blocked waiting to establish a connection, connect() shall fail and set errno to [EINTR], but the connection request shall not be aborted, and the connection shall be established asynchronously. Question : Is the above contents valid for AIX OS (especially the connection time-out, timed wait ...etc)?Because I do not see it in AIX man pages (5.1 and 5.3) Question 2 I have a client socket whose attributes are a. SO_RCVTIMEO ,SO_SNDTIMEO are set for 5 seconds. b. AF_INET and SOCK_STREAM. c. SO_LINGER with linger on and time is 5 seconds. d. SO_REUSEADDR is set. Note that the client socket is not O_NONBLOCK. Question : Now since O_NONBLOCK is not set and SO_RCVTIMEO and SO_SNDTIMEO is set for 5 seconds, does it mean a. connect in NON Blocking or Blocking? b. If blocking, is it timed blocking or "infinite" time blocking? c. If it is infinite, How do I establish a "connect" system call which is O_BLOCKING with timeout to t secs. • Can someone recommend a good tutorial on MySQL indexes, specifically when used in an order by clause

  I could try to post and explain the exact query I'm trying to run, but I'm going by the old adage of, "give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he'll eat for the rest of his life." SQL optimization seems to be very query-specific, and even if you could solve this one particular query for me, I'm going to have to write many more queries in the future, and I'd like to be educated on how indexes work in general. Still, here's a quick description of my current problem. I have a query that joins three tables and runs in 0.2 seconds flat. Awesome. I add an "order by" clause and it runs in 4 minutes and 30 seconds. Sucky. I denormalize one table so there is one fewer join, add indexes everywhere, and now the query runs in... 20 minutes. What the hell? Finally, I don't use a join at all, but rather a subquery with "where id in (...) order by" and now it runs in 1.5 seconds. Pretty decent. What in God's name is going on? I feel like if I actually understood what indexes were doing I could write some really good SQL. Anybody know some good tutorials? Thanks!

I was hoping that someone here could help me out in finding why this message won't send. No error is raised, nothing appears in the log (except for the log messages that I make myself in the code). Also, the manifest does have the correct tags. Suggestions?

  Installed SharePoint Services v3 (SP2, october 2009 cumulative updates, Language Pack), attached to a content database I had previously (all works). Installed Search server 2008 Express (with language pack) on top of WSS and crawl does not work. However it works for newly created web application + database. Was playing around with accounts, permissions to try get it working. Currently I have WSS_Crawler account with such permissions: Office Search Server runs with WSS_Crawler account Config database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler Content database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler WSS_Crawler is owner of search database. Added WSS_Crawler to SQL server browser user group and administrator Yes, i'v given more permissions than needed, but it doesn't even work with that and i don't know if its permission problem or what. Crawl log says there is Error in the Site Data Web Service., nothing more. There were known issues with a similar error: Error in the Site Data Web Service. (Value does not fall within the expected range.), but this is not the case as thats an old issue and i hope it has been included in SP2... Logs are from olders to newest (descending order). They don't appear to be very helpful. Error code = 0x8007000b In MS connect this is reported as a bug but MS is unable to reproduce the problem altough when you search the fora I'm not the only one with this problem.   I have a server running Django/Nginx/uWSGI with uWSGI in emperor mode, and the error log for it (the vassal-level error log, not the emperor-level log) has a continual permissions error every time it spawns a new worker, like so: Tue Jun 26 19:34:55 2012 - Respawned uWSGI worker 2 (new pid: 9334) Error opening file for reading: Permission denied Problem is, I don't know what file it's having trouble opening; it's not the log file, obviously, since I'm looking at it and it's writing to that without issue. Any way to find out? I'm running the apt-get version of uWSGI 1.0.3-debian through Upstart on Ubuntu 12.04. The site is working successfully, aside from what seems like a memory leak...hence my looking at the log file.   Hi, i have set up backup schedule on our server. SQL Server 2008 to 01:00am on windows server 2008 R2 to 4:00am. Sql backup runs well, but system backup ends sometimes with error. • Overheating computer

  My computer overheats somewhat frequently, usually during intense use. And by intense use I mean browsing the internet while downloading, or gaming. It even overheats on extremely old games though, Master of Orion 2, which was developed for Windows 95. My computer has a Pentium 4 Ghz processor, 2 GB of ram, and is running Windows XP. One of the symptoms it has after overheating, is that it'll turn on immediately afterwards, but won't show any video on my monitor. I usually have to wait at least 5 minutes (mostly at least 10) before I can get it to turn on and show video on my monitor. I also usually have to wiggle around the graphics card a little bit, which is the ASUS A9550 Series with 256 MB. I'm not sure exactly what is causing the computer to overheat. At first I thought it was the video card, but after I noticed it was doing it while playing Master of Orion 2, I'm not so sure, because that game can't be making the video card work all that hard. So how exactly can I pinpoint the problem? Thanks for any help provided. Edit: Okay I downloaded the programs that you specified, and will start benchmarking my system to try and pinpoint what's overheating. What is the temperature range for when it's getting to hot? Also I have an abundant amount of software experience with computers, but unfortunately not to much hardware experience.

I migrated from a Courier install using imapsync. In the filesystem the folders don't have a INBOX in their name, so the tho folders ar called .Folder 1 not .INBOX.Folder 1.   We would like to use gpg signatures to verify some aspects of our system configuration management tools. Additionally, we would like to use a "trust" model where individual sysadmin keys are signed with a master signing key, and then our systems trust that master key (and use the "web of trust" to validate signatures by our sysadmins). This gives us a lot of flexibility, such as the ability to easily revoke the trust on a key when someone leaves, but we've run into a problem. While the gpg command will tell you if a key is untrusted, it doesn't appear to return an exit code indicating this fact. • Verification of files on backup media - after the backup

  I have a system in place where I back up my work files daily to a portable hard drive. I actually have two portable hard drives - one is stored off-site and I swap them regularly. I also keep my family photos and other historical files backed up, but I only back the photos up occasionally (ie when I have new photos). The backup media is for backup only, and it is unlikely I will ever read the files from the backup media unless a disaster occurs and I lose the master. It worries me that my backed up files could become corrupt without me knowing it. It is also feasible that my master files could become corrupt, and eventually the corrupt files would be replicated to the backup media. I'm currently using Cobian Backup, but I'm open to alternatives. Is there a tool I can use to confirm that the backed up files are identical to the files that were first copied? I know it would be possible to generate a checksum and periodically validate the backup files against the original checksum, but I'm looking for a tool which will do this automatically.

  I have a Asus EEE PC 1005P which I installed a Command-line system on using the Alternate Installer CD of Ubuntu Lucid Lynx. Altough I think this is a general linux and grub2 question. I do not have (or want) the X Window System installed. I want to change my console screen resolution (not inside X) to 1024x600. • Where should CentOS users get /usr/share/virtio-win/drivers for virt-v2v?

  I need to migrate a number of virtual machines from VMware ESX to CentOS 6 KVM hypervisors. Ultimately, I wrote an RPM spec file that solved my problem at https://github.com/fasrc/virtio-win/blob/master/virtio-win.spec but I'm not sure if there's another RPM in base CentOS or EPEL (something standard) I should be using instead. Originally, I was getting this "No root device found in this operating system image" error when attemting to migrate a Window 2008 VM. . . [root@kvm01b ~]# virt-v2v -ic 'esx://my-vmware-hypervisor.example.com/' \ -os transferimages --network default my-vm virt-v2v: No root device found in this operating system image. . . . but I solved this with a simply yum install libguestfs-winsupport since the docs say: If you attempt to convert a virtual machine using NTFS without the libguestfs-winsupport package installed, the conversion will fail. Next I got an error about missing drivers for Windows 2008. . . [root@kvm01b ~]# virt-v2v -ic 'esx://my-vmware-hypervisor.example.com/' \ -os transferimages --network default my-vm my-vm_my-vm: 100% [====================================]D virt-v2v: Installation failed because the following files referenced in the configuration file are required, but missing: /usr/share/virtio-win/drivers/amd64/Win2008 . . . and I resolved this by grabbing an iso from Fedora at http://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/virtio-win/latest/ as recommended by http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/WindowsGuestDrivers/Download_Drivers and building an RPM from it with this spec file: https://github.com/fasrc/virtio-win/blob/master/virtio-win.spec Now, virt-v2v exits without error: [root@kvm01b ~]# virt-v2v -ic 'esx://my-vmware-hypervisor.example.com/' \ -os transferimages --network default my-vm my-vm_my-vm: 100% [====================================]D virt-v2v: my-vm configured with virtio drivers. • award phoenix bios not recognizing my sata hdd.

  What am I doing wrong? I have a custom built comp with a Fatal1ty AA8XE mobo. It has 4 SATA ports and one IDE port. When i first got it, I had a really hard time putting in more than one hard drive. Right now i have one 120gb IDE HDD on master and my DVD+-RW on slave connected to the one IDE spot on the mobo. I ripped a bunch of movies and filled up my HDD, so I got a WD 80gb SATA drive. I plugged it into SATA1 and hooked up the power, turned on comp, went into bios. The only thing in any option in any of the menues in this crazy lookin bios is a thing that says "SATA mode". i put it on IDE, set it so PATA is primary, SATA is secondary. booted up my comp, nothin. Not recognizing the SATA. I went back into the bios and checked it all again. I saw that it says SATA2 and SATA4 are the secondaries so i put it on SATA2, booted, nothing, same with SATA4, same with SATA3, all same as SATA1. Bios and wt os are not recognizing the drive as being there at all. I even downloaded and printed the almost 100 page manual for the mobo, read the entire thing, and still can't figure it out. I know there are a lot of people out there smarter than me when it comes to computers. So please, somebody, anybody, please tell me something that I'm not seeing. Some setting somewhere that I didn't configure right. There is something, obviously, but I can't find it. As far as i can tell, everything is set perfectly fine for my 120gb to be the master and the SATA to be the slave. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I'm seriously about to throw this computer out the window. thankyou in advance to whoever attempts to help.

• netlogon errors

  I have two instances of mssql 2005 and am using CA XOSoft replication. The master is a failover cluster and the replica is a standalone server. They are all running Server 2003 sp2 x64. Same patch levels on all servers. This setup has worked great for several months until we recently restricted the RPC ports on both nodes of the master(5000 - 6000 using rpccfg.exe). We have to implement egress filtering, thus the limiting of the ports. We began receiving login errors for sql windows authentication and NETLOGON Event ID: 5719: This computer was not able to set up a secure session with a domain controller in domain due to the following: Not enough storage is available to process this command. This may lead to authentication problems. Make sure that this computer is connected to the network. If the problem persists, please contact your domain administrator. We also see group policies failing to update and cluster file shares go offline at the same time. The RPC ports were set back to default when we started seeing these problems and the servers rebooted, but the problems persist. The domain controllers are not showing any errors. Running dcdiag and netdiag shows everything is fine. We have noticed that the XOSoft service ws_rep.exe is using a lot of handles(8 - 9k), about the same number that sqlserver is using. As soon as xosoft replication is stopped the login errors cease and everything functions correctly. I have opened a ticket with CA for XOSoft, but I'm not sure that the problem is actually xosoft, but that it is the one bringing the problem to light. I'm looking for tips on debugging RPC problems. Specifically on limiting the ports and then reverting the changes.
