  • How to read in text from the visual studio debug output window

    I've read several articles that tell you how to add text to the output window in visual studio from within an Add-On (specifically, a visual studio 2008 integration package, via the visual studio 2008 SDK 1.1), but no examples of how to read text from the output window. My goal is to parse text from the debug output window while debugging a certain application (TRACE output and possibly stdin/stdout). The IVsOutputWindowPane interface has no methods for reading in text from the output window. The documentation seems to imply that it is possible, but it doesn't provide an example: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb166236(VS.80).aspx Quote: In addition, the OutputWindow and OutputWindowPane objects add some higher-level functionality to make it easier to enumerate the Output window panes and to retrieve text from the panes.   • What are some alternatives to word processing with Markdown?

    I've used MS Word-style editors for a long time, but I never got used to how unintuitive and cumbersome they are. I'm not talking specifically about MS Word, but also other editors that seem to mimic Word, like OpenOffice, NeoOffice, etc. I've found myself preferring to write in Markdown (much like on this site). I've found a few good Markdown editors, and I like using them a lot more than using Word-style editors. Here is what they generally look like: As you can see, it works much differently than a Word-style editor. This is a generally cleaner way of writing, since formatting is done right in the text, and is extremely simple to use (no highlighting some text, then clicking a button in some menu you have to find). Although editing text this way is great, I've realized that the syntax can only be used for very specific needs (bullets, numbered lists, headings and sub-headings, bold, italic, and some other common ones). However, many features are missing. Here are some features that would be nice in a word processor: Tables. Indenting paragraphs. Good image support (you can link to images, but not add them, since Markdown is just text). More simple to use than Word and its cronies. Cross-platform. Some of these can be fixed with in-line HTML, but nobody wants to do that. It seems Markdown was designed for editing text on the internet. Is there a similar setup that works better for desktop word processors?

  • Using sed for introducing newline after each > in a +1 gigabyte large one-line text file

    I have a giant text file (about 1,5 gigabyte) with xml data in it. All text in the file is on a single line, and attempting to open it in any text editor (even the ones mentioned in this thread: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/159521/text-editor-to-open-big-giant-huge-large-text-files ) either fails horribly or is totally unusable due to the text editor hanging when attempting to scroll. I was hoping to introduce newlines into the file by using the following sed command sed 's/>/>\n/g' data.xml > data_with_newlines.xml Sadly, this caused sed to give me a segmentation fault. From what I understand, sed reads the file line-by-line which would in this case mean that it attempts to read the entire 1,5 gig file in one line which would most certainly explain the segfault. However, the problem remains. How do I introduce newlines after each in the xml file? Do I have to resort to writing a small program to do this for me by reading the file character-by-character?

    I have a document with dynamic image and dynamic text and would like the text around the image. The image is right aligned on the landscape page.     Trying to localize text in ASP.NET labels... want to add a ':' after the localized text. I could just add the ':' to the localized text in the resource file, but that seems silly... there should be an easy way to do this. <asp:Label id="RoleTypeLabel" runat="server" Text='<%$ Resources: GS3, RoleTypeLabel %>:' AssociatedControlID="RoleTypeDropDown"></asp:Label> (note the ':' at the end of Text='...')     I have been fiddling with this code for a few days. Mind you I am a beginner. I just want to get my script to be able to download a remote file, and scan MineCraft plugins. I got the scan plugins to work, but I'm having two other issues.     I need a way to display, like you see in some web apps, the current characters/character limit for a Text Control(i.e. 3/500). I usually see this as a label residing directly above or below the Text Control. How is this 'normally' accomplished? Should I override my Text Control somehow? Do I just manually add labels by every Text Control and 'bind' them to properties of the Text Control? Do I need to create a composite control that has the Text Control & Label Controls together to accomplish what I need? Any direction or help will be greatly appreciated.

    I have a multiple select, and I need to force the user to choose maximum two options, nothing more. While if I do this: $(element).each(function(i, selected){ foo[i] = $(selected).text(); alert(foo[i]); }); It works but I get all the options in the select. Why is that? I've been pouring over the documentation looking for anything regarding the text() function and how it operates when Password mode is on, however I have not found anything.   • Scroll up/down while selecting multi-page block of text in Vim through putty

    I'm using vim 6.3.81 on a xterm through putty. When I use set mouse=a , I can scroll through the file , but not select text. When mouse is disabled using set mouse=, I can select text with mouse (automatically copied to a buffer) , but if the text block is over one page long , I can't scroll up/down (and have to select text one screen at a time) !! Is there any way to have the best of both - while selecting text with mouse , if i reach the end of page , it automatically scrolls up/down depending on whether i've reached top/bottom of page and allows me to select text from the next page as well ? I know vim is powerful/flexible enough to do what I want - I just don't know how !! Can anyone help ?

I've just installed CakePHP 2.2, and the first thing I've done is add the cakeDC Users plugin. It's all working, apart from sending an email verification when a user registers. I've tried so many combinations of different things in email.php, that I have now utterly got my knickers in a twist. Whatever I do, when the verification email should be sent, all I get is: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.     I've got an AJAX transmission of a variable string in my primary coding language (Visual FoxPro 9) that looks like this: AjaxResponse = CREATEOBJECT("Custom") lcMessage = "<li class='hello'>Hello</li>" AjaxResponse.AddProperty("Reply", lcMessage) Response.ContentType = "text/html" Response.Write(AjaxResponse.Reply) While using the jQuery function .ajax() I've created a success: function that looks like this: $.ajax({ url: 'index?Proc=GetUuserHistory', dataType: "html", success: function(data){ $("div#history-text").text(data); }; }); My problem is that the text inserting into 'div#history-text' is unformatted and contains the li tags still. I've tried substituting the .text for .prepend, .append, and .html with no luck...is there a way to convert this string back to html format after its been received using Ajax?
