  • c#: Design advice. Using DataTable or List<MyObject> for a generic rule checker

    Hi, I have about 100,000 lines of generic data. Columns/Properties of this data are user definable and are of the usual data types (string, int, double, date). There will be about 50 columns/properties. I have 2 needs: To be able to calculate new columns/properties using an expression e.g. Column3 = Column1 * Column2. Ultimately I would like to be able to use external data using a callback, e.g. Column3 = Column1 * GetTemperature The expression is relatively simple, maths operations, sum, count & IF are the only necessary functions. To be able to filter/group the data and perform aggregations e.g. Sum(Data.Column1) Where(Data.Column2 == "blah") As far as I can see I have two options: 1. Using a DataTable. = Point 1 above is achieved by using DataColumn.Expression = Point 2 above is acheived by using DataTable.DefaultView.RowFilter & C# code 2. Using a List of generic Objects each with a Dictionary< string, object to store the values. = Point 1 could be achieved by something like NCalc = Point 2 is achieved using LINQ DataTable: Pros: DataColumn.Expression is inbuilt Cons: RowFilter & coding c# is not as "nice" as LINQ, DataColumn.Expression does not support callbacks(?) = workaround could be to get & replace external value when creating the calculated column GenericList: Pros: LINQ syntax, NCalc supports callbacks Cons: Implementing NCalc/generic calc engine Based on the above I would think a GenericList approach would win, but something I have not factored in is the performance which for some reason I think would be better with a datatable. Does anyone have a gut feeling / experience with LINQ vs. DataTable performance? How about NCalc? As I said there are about 100,000 rows of data, with 50 columns, of which maybe 20 are calculated. In total about 50 rules will be run against the data, so in total there will be 5 million row/object scans. Would really appreciate any insights. Thx. ps. Of course using a database + SQL & Views etc. would be the easiest solution, but for various reasons can't be implemented.

    I have a simple query that does select * from t limit 1; on a remote mysql server. I use squirrel(mysql client) to run it, it shows: Query 1 of 1 elapsed time (seconds) - Total: 22.047, SQL query: 1.047, Building output: 21 why does building output take such a long time? what does this process do? when running from mysql command line, the whole process takes 0.3 secs (also remotely)

I have a console application which detects the new build, and then copies the built MSI's to a local folder, and deploys all of my components to a test server. After that, I have a bunch of tests in NUnit dll's that I run by executing "nunit-console.exe" using Process/ProcessStartInfo. My question is, how can programatically I get the numbers for Total Success/Failed tests?

    This below output come from php json_encode.What we see here is 0849 is twice.Since javascript only use sn to get value why we need the "0" value.The main problem is speed execution. If 800 kb data might can be reduce to 400 kb {"success":"true","total":968,"data":[{"0":"0849","sn":"0849" }] If no solution i have to make a script to filter in json_encode so no need twice data transter.

    I have a client and server program (both in Obj-C) and I am transferring files between two devices using the programs. The transferring is working fine, but I would like to display to the user what transfer rate they are getting. So I know the total size of the file, and how much of the file has been transferred, is there a way to figure out the transfer rate from this information, and if not, what information do I need to calculate the transfer rate?   • Large File Download - Connection With Server Reset

    I have an asp.net website that allows the user to download largish files - 30mb to about 60mb. Sometimes the download works fine but often it fails at some varying point before the download finishes with the message saying that the connection with the server was reset. Originally I was simply using Server.TransmitFile but after reading up a bit I am now using the code posted below.   • Why does Module::Build's testcover gives me "use of uninitialized value" warnings?

    I'm kinda new to Module::Build, so maybe I did something wrong. Am I the only one who gets warnings when I change my dispatch from "test" to "testcover"? Is there a bug in Devel::Cover? Is there a bug in Module::Build? I probably just did something wrong. I'm using ActiveState Perl v5.10.0 with Module::Build version 0.31012 and Devel::Cover 0.64 and Eclipse 3.4.1 with EPIC 0.6.34 for my IDE. UPDATE: I upgraded to Module::Build 0.34 and the warnings are still output. *UPDATE: Looks like a bug in B::Deparse.
