• Possible to create "fake" forum (for prototyping) using html, javascript, jquery, css? [closed]

  I am trying to figure out if it might be possible to create a small forum without any use of a database and php coding. I have created a small (local and will only be local) webpage with a couple of menus. I have a forum button which will take me to another .html location. Here i would like to create something that looks like a forum and which you somewhat could interact with like a forum, without any database or PHP. I would probably want/need a form with a heading and text input. When i have given some input, i want it to be displayed as a thread, probably on top of the other threads (which will have to be created beforehand). When I refresh the forum will obviously be set to default, without saving what i just entered since I'm not using a database to save any data. So the new posts will not be saved, just displayed, neatly, when submitted. I'm doing this webpage with forum just as a prototype, and that is why it doesn't have to work as a professional forum. :) Would be very thankful for some tips, tricks, ideas or links to helpful threads.

• Ubuntu server header timeout

  I'm running Ubuntu Linux 12.04.1 Kernel and CPU Linux 3.2.0-30-generic on x86_64. Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E31230 @ 3.20GHz, 8 cores I recently came across this problem. I'm using apache2/php latest and when I run $url_headers = @get_headers($url); Inside PHP it would normally take milliseconds to within a second to get the headers. Now recently it can take up to 15 seconds or even timeout. It has worked great for over a year and recently started doing this. I'm not sure how to go about fixing it, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

• How can I disallow a user's scripts from accessing anything above their user folder?

  This is probably an extremely simple question to answer for anybody who knows what they're doing, but I can't find any answers myself. I'm trying to set up a subdirectory for my good friend to test his PHP scripts on my (Apache) hosting plan. I don't want to let him access anything else on my server, however, for obvious reasons. His FTP login already leads him to the proper directory, which does not allow navigating any higher than it's root (mydomain.com/friend/). I would like the same behavior to be applied to any scripts, so he cannot simply <?php print_r(glob("../*")); ?> and view all my files. I'm thinking this can be done with an .htaccess file setting the DocumentRoot somewhere, but I can't have the file available for modification inside the user directory. Is this possible without majorly rewiring the web server? I've tried Googling all sorts of things to describe my problem, but without the proper terminology, all I get is "shared hosting" websites and people trying to sell me security packages.

• cant access my local web server with the external IP

  I havent been able to find a solution to my particular problem. I have a MAC which I set up as a web server and configured my router to forward to the local IP. When trying to access my site from outside, it does say "It works!", however, when I call a simple Hello World PHP script that I have, I am getting an error that the page could not be opened. I did enable PHP on my machine so thats not the problem. I really have no idea how can I access - I followed so many tutorials and did everything correctly. So here is what i need: a search engine that will take a keyword. the search engine will open a new page with a list of all website users, displaying first the users that have the specific keyword in their username. display your username in the placeholder. • CentOS running inside VMware as WebServer times out on outside connection [migrated]

  I have a CentOS machine running inside VMware, and I have got PHP and Apache set up on it, so if I open a browser (on the VM) and go to either localhost, or 192.168.0.3, I get a phpinfo page I made in /var/www/html/index.php, but, if on the host (Windows 7), in my browser I go to 192.168.0.3, it times out. I can ping the IP address from Windows and get a response, I just can't through the browser. Does anyone have any ideas what I need to do to get this working? This is my first time using a VM and I'm getting lost in the network settings.

• Why is this server redirecting to another page???

  I am building a site for a client. For a reason unknown to me www.domain.com forwards to www.domain.com/directory/home.html. If i type www.domain.com/index.php it works correctly. I have checked .htaccess there was nothing there, so I set the index to index.php which works fine in every directory other than the root directory. I have root access and have checked the httpd.conf (did a search in VI for the document that I was being redirected to) and anything else I could think of. Where should I look next? The server is a VPS running CentOS 5.5 with multiple domains, has CPanel WHM 11 for root access and CPanel X installed for each domain.

  I am running my domain on a vps and I have virtualmin and webmin access. In my php files, I need to record the current time by using mysql NOW() when a row is inserted. I changed the timezone from the php configuration on webmin, but the database function NOW() is still using the default timezone. How can I change the database timezone? The native DB2 driver is installed (hence it works as CGI). Running Apache 2.2.3, mod_perl 2.0.4 under RHEL5. This guy had the same problem as me: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg22909.html But I have no idea how he fixed it. What does mod_php4 have to do with mod_perl? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm having no luck with google. Update: As james2vegas pointed out, the problem has something to do with PHP: I disable PHP all together I get the a different error: Total Environment allocation failure! Did you set up your DB2 client environment? I believe this error is to do with environment variables not being set up correctly, namely DB2INSTANCE. However, I'm not able to turn off PHP to resolve this problem (I need it for some legacy applications). So I now have 2 questions: How can I fix the original issue without disabling PHP all together? How can I fix the environment issue? I've set DB2INSTANCE, DB2_PATH and SQLLIB variables correctly using SetEnv and PerlSetEnv in httpd.conf, but with no luck. Note: I've edited the code to determine if the problem was to do with Global Variable Persistence.

• Ad Server does not serve ads in Firefox, but works fine in Chrome, IE, & Safari!?

  I'm having a strange (likely JavaScript) related issue. I'm running Open X Ad Server ( http://www.openx.org ) which serves ads to the website http://upsidedowndogs.com . The ads load fine every time when visiting the site via Chrome, IE, or Safari, but sometimes don't load at all in FireFox - Hence, it is a client side issue, which leads me to believe its something up with the javascript. The fact that the problem is intermittent, and does not through any error codes to FireBug, also doesn't make it any easier to diagnose and address. Any ideas how to diagnose / address this issue? • using ajax to post comments in cakephp results in 404 error, but no errors locally?

  Using an ajax helper created for use with Jquery I've created a form that posts comments to "/comments/add", and this works as expected on my local wamp server but not on my production server. On my production server I get a '404 error, cannot find /comments/add'. I've spent quite a bit of time searching for a resolution with no luck so far. I've focused on trying to identify a gap but nothing jumps out at me. • Magento Onepage Success Conversion Tracking Design Pattern

  My intent is to track conversions through multiple channels by inserting third party javascript (for example google analytics, optimizely, pricegrabber etc.) into the footer of onepage success . I've accomplished this by adding a block to the footer reference inside of the checkout success node within local.xml and everything works appropriately. My questions are more about efficiency and extensibility. It occurred to me that it would be better to combine all of the blocks into a single block reference and then use a various methods acting on a single call to the various related models to provide the data needed for insertion into the javascript for each of the conversion tracking scripts. Some examples of the common data that conversion tracking may rely on(pseudo): Order ID , Order Total, Order.LineItem.Name(foreach) and so on Currently for each of the scripts I've made a call to the appropriate model passing the customers last order id as the load value and the calling a get() assigning the return value to a variable and then iterating through the data to match the values with the expectations of the given third party service. The theme comes with a Page template that includes a full-width Google Map across the top, which pulls its marker from a single address set within the Theme Options. It's meant to be used for one main "Contact Us" page. The client's business has several locations, and she wants each location's page to include such a map. (Example linked below.) It seems that the ideal solution would be the ability to specify an address within a shortcode in the Post, and have that set the map marker. Right now it's using the same map code as above. I've tried creating a shortcode that takes an address attribute and sets it as $mapAddress, but that didn't work. I believe it's because the map is already loaded by the time the Loop gets parsed. How can I tell Maps to "come back" to the post to get the proper address? My specialty lies in HTML & CSS, but Javascript befuddles me fairly easily, so please be explicit when explaining implementation. Bonus: A further goal is to have the locations' parent Page also include such a map, but have multiple markers representing the multiple locations. When taking more than one location, Google Maps only accepts latitude/longitude. I don't want my client to be concerned with coordinates, so I know there's got to be something I can do with the geocoding service so she can just input a list of addresses instead (into the same, or similar, shortcode solution developed for my main question). But I am extra-clueless about how to do that.

  Using the NerdDinner 2.0 source code, I was trying to emulate its use of OpenID. All was fine and good until I ran into this line of code.. ( seen in the source code at : http://nerddinner.codeplex.com/sourcecontrol/network/Show?projectName=nerddinner&changeSetId=46375#952606 ) - ( trunk/nerddinner/services/OpenIdRelyingPartyService.cs ) public ActionResult ProcessAjaxOpenIdResponse() { return relyingParty.ProcessAjaxOpenIdResponse().AsActionResult(); } ProcessAjaxOpenIdResponse doesn't exist, though! If I download the nerddinner application and follow the dependancies, I can see that the OpenAuth library they use has this method. However, getting the newest version from http://www.dotnetopenauth.net/ - the library does not have this method. Any ideas on what happened to it, and what I should use instead?

Example: Rack Gem (http://rubygems.org/gems/rack) Version 1.1.0 has no runtime dependencies, but six development dependencies. Console output of gem2rpm --dependencies rack-1.0.1.gem is: rubygem(test-spec) = 0 rubygem(camping) = 0 rubygem(fcgi) = 0 rubygem(memcache-client) = 0 rubygem(mongrel) = 0 rubygem(ruby-openid) = 2.0.0 rubygem(thin) = 0` How can I specify to only include runtime dependencies?   I have noticed through the process of signing up for various freelance and job seeking or professional network sites that they all want your resume/CV data. And I am really getting tired of copy/pasting this data, especially since I have a website. Is there a standard format or service somewhere that I do not know about for this data? If not, does anyone want to help me build something like this out? I'm thinking a service similar to OpenID that allows you to maintain a central resume to have your data pulled from. No more filling in the same data over and over, and having to maintain the copies on any of the plethora of websites that have that data. Takers?

• How to check misspelled email during user registration

  I use an email registration and confirmation in my project (yes, I know about OpenID. In my counry, a main email service lack it). Sometimes users misspell their email addresses. I know about this due to "message could not be delivered" letters in a mailbox. A misspelled address is absolutely correct, because I check it with a regular expression - say, [email protected] intstead of [email protected]. And I do not want to duplicate a email field in a registration form (who likes it?). Request processing routine cannot wait for email delivery - it could take an unpredictable time. So, my script will return to user a confirmation message "An email was sent". And the user will wait for it forever (of cause, not - he/she will turn to an alternative project with a more perfect registration system). Does someone knows how it can be improved (in any programming language)?

• Dotnetopenauth oAuth Service provider explanation

  I am a total newbie in the oAuth area and have set up DotNetOpenAuth to set up an oAuth Service provider. The sample provided in the DotNetOpenAuth download is quite confusing for me...maybe cos i am new to this stuff. There is one default page that creates a database and populates the database. Now I browse to the login.aspx and it asks me to put an openid, actually I want to use DNN (which implements DotNetOpenAuth) and i want to use those credentials on another site which will be the oAuth consumer. Can someone explain how to test the oAuth Service provider in the samples of DotNetOpenAuth?
