  • WinForms / .Net interactive world map - how?

    In a CD collection program, I have each artist's country of origin stored in the main database and want to display a map of the world which: Colour-codes each country depending on the number of CDs by artists in that country Allows clicking on each country to filter a list of CDs to only ones by artists in that country This is a heavily simplified version of what I'm trying to do, but if I can at least get this far the rest should be easy enough to figure out. So far the closest thing I've found to what I'm trying to do is here: http://www.synergetechsolutions.com/blog/analytics-world-map-control Ideally I don't want to be embedding Flash in my program though, and the only other solutions I've found all involve SVG which I haven't managed to get working in practice outside of a web browser control (and I DEFINITELY don't want to be embedding a browser in the forms). Something in pure managed code and either GDI+ or WPF would be preferable. Are there any existing components that would get me started, or can anyone suggest how to approach it from scratch?

    i have a string that looks like this - "1AL||9CA||34CO||196WY||..." i want to use a for loop or while loop, in which if i have an integer, it should parse this string and delete the value matching that integer. example for above string string = "1AL||9CA||34CO||196WY||..." integer = 34 for ... loop new string = "1AL||9CA||196WY||..." As you can see the integer matched the integer 34 and deleted from one delimeter "||" to th next one. how can i do this?

    What is the preferred method of refreshing a combo box when the data changes? If a form is open and the combo box data is already loaded, how do you refresh the contents of the combo box without the form having to be closed and reloaded? Do you have to do something on the Click event on the combo box? This would seem to be a potential slow down for the app if there is a hit to the database every time someone clicks on a combo box.

    Hello, the title says it all. I have seen some similar questions on SO like this or this, but either i have overlooked something or my requirement is different, neither works. My situation is following: i have a Masterpage one of its contentpage is called MasterData.aspx MasterData has an asp.net ajax tabcontainer control with one usercontrol in every tabpanel these usercontrols(f.e. MD_Customer.ascx)hold the main content(like a normal page) they all have GridViews in it and i want to provide an Excel-Export-Button What i've tried is is to use an iframe like here. But the function that adds the iframe to the document gets never called and therefore i never see the save-as-dialog. Maybe this is caused by using a MasterPage. Does somebody has an idea on how to provide a button in an UpdatePanel that causes an async postback, so that i can generate a CSV dynamically in codebehind and write it to the response?   • Network.downloadfile is very slow

    I have tried using the My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile method but unfortunately it is slow. Executing the simple command below takes ~5-10 secs, which I would say is a lot longer than expected for downloading a 9 kb file. `My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile("http://www.google.dk", "j:\temp\test.html")` I am connecting via a high-speed connection (10GB) from a Win7 machine.     Hi guys I have an instance where I have a logo image as part of some artwork.. If a user uploads a new logo I have a form field which is larger than the default logo. I then use that form field to position the new image.     I have a data base with Price_old like: Date --- Hour --- Price _____________________________ Jan 1 --- 1 --- $3.0 Jan 1 --- 2 --- $3.1 Jan 1 --- 3 --- $3.3 Jan 1 --- 4 --- $3.15 Jan 2 --- 1 --- $2.95 Jan 2 --- 2 --- $3.2 Jan 2 --- 3 --- $3.05 What I then have is a spreadsheet, with the same structure, that I will be reading into a datatable, I'll call the new datatable Price_New, note that price new may not have all the same date/hours as Price_Old So, I end up with 2 datatables, Price_Old, and Price_New, and what I need to do is update Price_old with the new prices in Price_New, and then commit those new prices to the Database. I am kinda new to LINQ (about 30 mins of experience) and would really appreciate if someone could give me a pointer or two on whether or not this is doing in LINQ and what the best method would be.     This is for a web project so i have several classes that inherit from Web.UI. I only want to serialize very particular properties (basically, only local properties) I'm aware of the XMLIgnore property that can be placed on a property to ignore items, but this won't work in my context since that would require modifying a bunch of stuff that i really don't want to modify (and probably can't). So how do i tell the xml serializer to ignore everything except for X and Y or tell it to seralize just X and Y? i could just create my own xml in a string builder or something and if that's the only way, so be it. however i'm looking for a method that will employ the built in XML stuff.     I need a method of quickly searching a large 2 dimensional array. I extract the array from Excel, so 1 dimension represents the rows and the second the columns. I wish to obtain a list of the rows where the columns match certain criteria. I need to know the row number (or index of the array). For example, if I extract a range from excel. I may need to find all rows where column A =”dog” and column B = 7 and column J “a”. I only know which columns and which value to find at run time, so I can’t hard code the column index. I could use a simple loop, but is this efficient ? I need to run it several thousand times, searching for different criteria each time. For r As Integer = 0 To UBound(myArray, 0) - 1 match = True For c = 0 To UBound(myArray, 1) - 1 If not doesValueMeetCriteria(myarray(r,c) then match = False Exit For End If Next If match Then addRowToMatchedRows(r) Next The doesValueMeetCriteria function is a simple function that checks the value of the array element against the query requirement. e.g. Column A = dog etc. Is it more effiecent to create a datatable from the array and use the .select method ? Can I use Linq in some way ? Perhaps some form of dictionary or hashtable ? Or is the simple loop the most effiecent ? Your suggestions are most welcome.

If I do: ManageList.SelectedItems(3).Text I get this error: InvalidArgument=Value of '3' is not valid for 'index'. To keep the window and its contents alive rather than killing it by handling the FormClosing event, cancel the event and simply hide the form. That's fine but at close of the application I need to actually close the window. I implemented the below but it feels kludgey. Is there a simpler, more clever way to handle this situation?
