• can not install gimp

  I tried to install Gimp but I get an error that there are unmet dependencies. How can I handle that. I am running UBUNTU 12.04 in 64 bit. • Telerik Releases a new Visual Entity Designer

Want a domain model designer for data access that is easy, yet powerful? Then the Telerik Visual Entity Designer is for you. Built on top of Telerik OpenAccess ORM, a very mature and robust product, Teleriks Visual Entity Designer is a new way to build your domain model that is very powerful and also real easy to use. How easy? Ill show you here. First Look: Using the Telerik Visual Entity Designer To get started, you need to install the Telerik OpenAccess ORM Q1 release for Visual Studio 2008 or 2010. You dont need to use any of the Telerik OpenAccess wizards, designers, or using statements. Just right click on your project and select Add|New Item from the context menu. Choose Telerik OpenAccess Domain Model from the Visual Studio project templates. (Note to existing OpenAccess users, dont run the Enable ORM wizard or any other OpenAccess menu unless you are building OpenAccess Entities.) You will then have to specify the database backend (SQL Server, SQL Azure, Oracle, MySQL, etc) and connection. After you establish your connection, select the database objects you want to add to your domain model. You can also name your model, by default it will be NameofyourdatabaseEntityDiagrams. You can click finish here if you are comfortable, or tweak some advanced settings. Many users of domain models like to add prefixes and suffixes to classes, fields, and properties as well as handle pluralization. I personally accept the defaults, however, I hate how DBAs force underscores on me, so I click on the option to remove them. You can also tweak your namespace, mapping options, and define your own code generation template to gain further control over the outputted code. This is a very powerful feature, but for now, I will just accept the defaults.   When we click finish, you can see your domain model as a file with the .rlinq extension in the Solution Explorer. You can also bring up the visual designer to view or further tweak your model by double clicking on the model in the Solution Explorer.  Time to use the model! Writing a LINQ Query Programming against the domain model is very simple using LINQ. • Keyboard doesn't work with Tor Browser

  I use the actual Tor Browser 2.3.25-14 and Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander). I start Tor in the command-line window (./start-tor-browser). The cable less keyboard and mouse (Logitech) are working, the Vidalia control panel opens, after having connected to the Tor network, the Tor Browser window (Firefox) opens automatically. The onion is green, everything ok. But the keyboard doesn't work in the Tor Browser window, the mouse, yes, does work. When I close Tor with the Vidalia control panel and open another application, the keyboard works again. Is there somebody who can help me or at least understands the problem? Thanks a lot!

• JCP Calendar for 2013 - First EC Meeting 15-16 January

  The JCP 2013 calendar and EC Meeting schedule has now been finalized and published :-). This year the EC will be holding meetings in the San Francisco Bay Area in January, and also in September, scheduled around the JavaOne San Francisco Conference; and, Credit Suisse will host the May EC Meeting in Zurich, Switzerland.  The first JCP EC Meeting of 2013 will be a Face to Face Meeting in Santa Clara, California USA, hosted by Intel.  We are of in the midst preparing the agenda now, but it will include a 2012 annual review, JSR Spec Lead presentations & updates, as well as JSR 358, A major revision of the Java Community Process, Expert Group session. You can view meeting materials and minutes from the JCP EC Meetings on JCP.org. The JCP also plans to meet with the Java User Group Leaders attending the User Group Leaders Summit being held at Oracle Redwood Shores location 14-16 January.

• Atheros Wireless card shows up as two different models?

  Hi I've been fighting these wireless drivers for a few days and just recently i noticed that the model the Wireless controller appears in lspci is different sometimes. This is the data i have after installing Ubuntu Server 64 bit ~# lspci -k .... 04:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01) Subsystem: AzureWave Device 1d89 Kernel driver in use: ath9k Kernel modules: ath9k ran some updates, restarted, all was good, all though it did say that linux-headers-server linux-image-server linux-server where beeing kept back. After that i installed ubuntu-desktop (aptitude install ubuntu-desktop --without-recommends) restarted and not only is the wireless not working anymore, but the hardware is listed as a different card ~# lspci -k .... 04:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. • Windows no longer display with proprietary ATI Catalyst drivers

  I recently started having an issue that opening any application would would show nothing on screen. At the time I noticed it I assumed it was an incompatibility between the new 14 update so reinstalled the old 13.10 iso I used originally. I have now tried a range of ATI drivers including the latest and the exact file I installed the first time with the same results. I can only assume then that it is one of the updates applied at some point, but have no idea which one or how I would go about rolling these back or getting earlier versions of packages. Is anyone else getting this issue? The system has 2 ati 6850s installed, not in crossfire. The open source drivers work fine but I need the ATI ones for cgminer to work.

• Can't untar Testdisk 6.14 using live CD

  I'm using an Ubuntu LiveCD right now and need to recover files from a (Windows 7) partition. I've read about TestDisk and tried downloading it and untaring it but: testdisk-6.14-WIP.linux26.tar.bz2: Cannot open: No such file or directory tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now tar: Child returned status 2 tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now I don't know why it doesn't work (noob). I tried using sudo apt-get install testdisk but: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package testdisk so.... HELP :D

  I need to fairly assign 2 experts from x experts (x is rather small - less than 50) for every n applications, so that: each expert has the same number of applications (+-1); each pair of experts (2-combination of x) has the same number of applications (+-1); It is simple to generate all 2-combinations: for (i=0; i<n; i++) { for (j=i+1; j<n; j++) { combinations.append(tuple(i,j)); } } But to assign experts fairly I need to assign a combination to an application i correct order, for example: experts: 0 1 2 3 4 fair combinations: counts 01234 01 11000 23 11110 04 21111 12 22211 34 22222 02 32322 13 33332 14 34333 03 44343 24 44444 I'm unable to come up with a good algorithm for this (the best I came up with is rather complicated and with O(x4) complexity). Could you help me?

• Can't get Broadcom 43142 drivers to work after installation on 5420 Inspiron

  I'm a complete newbie to ubuntu, I've already installed and reinstalled the Broadcom driver required done a numerous amount of steps on terminal but I can't seem to get wireless working. However, my wired connection seems to work just fine. also I have tried to follow the instructions but get stuck at step number 2 when i get told "No package dpkg is available": 1) Download the file from the link 2) sudo yum install dpkg 3) mkdir BCM43142 4) dpkg-deb -x Downloads/wireless-bcm43142-dkms-6.20.55.19_amd64.deb BCM43142 5) cd BCM43142/usr/src/wireless-bcm43142-oneiric-dkms-6.20.55.19~bdcom0602.0400.1000.0400/src/wl/sys 6) sudo yum install kernel-devel kernel-headers 7) vi wl_linux.c 8) around line 43, remove the line include 9) save the file (:wq) 10) cd ../../.. 11) make Things should work, and you'll have a file called "wl.ko" in the current directory. 12) sudo yum remove broadcom-wl 13) sudo mkdir -p /lib/modules/3.5.2-3.fc17.x86_64/extra/wl 14) sudo cp wl.ko /lib/modules/3.5.2-3.fc17.x86_64/extra/wl 15) sudo depmod -a 16) sudo modprobe wl I really need help :/

• Set nomodeset in usb installation (efi loader with iso)

  I'm working with the studyblast solution (http://studyblast.wordpress.com/2011/08/14/guide-mac-os-x-lion-how-to-boot-a-linux-live-system-from-a-usb-drive-how-to-update-any-ocz-ssds-firmware/) to creating a live usb for osx. I managed to get Ubuntu booted but the screen looks like a corrupt/glitch image. I can just about make out the clock on the bottom right and a few icons. I've been told that this is an easy fix and that nomodeset needs to be set for the graphics card but all the solutions i find are for a hard drive installed Ubuntu where you can cd in and edit the grub file - how do you do this is it's in an iso?   I am experiencing annoying automatic backlight brightness changes under ubuntu 12.04 LTS on my Dell XPS ultrabook. It seems to be connected to the amount of white pixels on the screen (switching back an forth between dark/light application windows makes the effect noticable, but also just scrolling through a website.) So I think it is the dynamic contrast feature of the notebook screen. How do I turn this off in Ubuntu? Windows offers specific Intel driver options for this, but I can't find any for Ubuntu. EDIT: Model: Dell XPS 14 Ultrabook and currently running Unity
