  • Migrate installation from one HDD to another?

    I have a server with a 64 GB SSD inside. It runs just fine, but occasionally there's a hiccup that causes it to nearly fill up. When that happens my server starts to lockup and generally misbehave. I'm looking to buy a bigger SSD (either 128 GB or 256 GB) but I'm a bit unsure of how best to make the transition. For a start, I don't have an external monitor. If I need one I'll have to borrow it from work. Most of the time I just SSH into the server from my iMac. The only solution I can think of would be to buy two FW800 2.5" cases, boot from the 64 GB SSD and clone it to the 128 GB SSD. Seem a bit excessive but it might be my best option. I do have more than one SATA port on my server, but they're all currently being use for storage drives. They don't mount by default, so I could unplug them and just have the two SSDs and do the whole thing via SSH. This is another option I'm considering. My main concern with either is how best to make sure everything goes across. I want a carbon copy of the first one onto the second. This is especially important because I have a ZFS volume (my storage) and I'm a bit unfamiliar with how to move everything across. I could just start fresh and reinstall everything on the SSD, but that seems like extra trouble I don't need. So any advice on how best to achieve my goals would be appreciated. Thanks!     elloo, i have some old php scripts which runs on php-5.2.x and the current server has php-5.3.x. to get around this problem,i have got two options one is to downgrade php-5.3.x or install php-5.2.x and php-5.3.x at the same time where php-5.2.x serve cgi script. i have decided go for the second option i have followed this tutorial and i can get most of it working however except execution of shell script which selects php-cgi version. i cannot get apache to execute this script. how do i get apache to execute #!/bin/sh # you can change the PHP version here. version="5.2.6" # php.ini file location, */php-5.2.6/lib equals */php-5.2.6/lib/php.ini.   • Installation requirements of django installing in hostgator dedicated server

    First, before I install OSQA on my dedicated server at hostgator, I want to know the requirements. I don't want to screw up my server so it's better to ask question first. I have read a lot of tutorial on the internet regarding Django but I want to clarify something before I proceed. On my dedicated server I don't use FCGI. Instead I use Mod SuPHP. A lot of tutorial is talking about installing python using FCGI. My question is if it is safe to install Python if I'm using SuPHP?     I am trying to install Oracle 11g(11.2.0.1.0) on Oracle Linux 6.4(Remote Server). I get the following error(s) when Database Configuration Assistant is running ORA-01092: ORACLE instance terminated Disconnection forced ORA-48210: Relation Not Found Can someone help me regarding this errors, I cant seem to find what exactly that I have to do to solve this issue. I have done the same install on Oracle Linux 5.7 but never faced this issue before. The only problem while installing(which happens on 5.7 too) is that the required packages fail, but upon checking, it seems much higher versions are already installed. Also I cant do a yum update because the system seems to have connectivity issues with public-yum.oracle.com as I cant ping it(even though the IP Address gets resolved)

  • Convert MSDN Windows 7 Enterprise installation to Ultimate

    Related question: When reinstalling Windows 7, does the language, version, architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) or source (OEM, retail, or MSDN) matter? Unthinkingly I installed Windows 7 Enterprise on my development box at work rather than the Ultimate version. Now windows is complaining that it is unable to activate because it can't contact a KMS (Key Management Service) which my company doesn't have. Is there any way to change this install such that it believes it is Windows 7 Ultimate and will take an ultimate key? I have MSDN so the licensing is not an issue.

    My laptop's hard disk is gone, so I need to re-install my Windows. Would it be a good idea to directly install Win8 (so actually the preview). Is there any known incompatibility with Win7 which would be a show stopper? I have a Dell XPS laptop, I do not expect any driver issues since the series is pretty much mainstream. Would the Win8 preview become Win8 RTM automatically by updates, or would I need to re-install Win8 RTM. This would be the no-go for me. The Win8 preview does not require a key, so I guess it becomes Win 8 RTM and then needs to be activated (which is what I want). Basically the idea is, I have to install windows anyway, so why not using the latest version?

    Hello Experts, I installed Flash media server 3.5 in windows 7 home basic.it installed properly. When i try to open the media server,and not showing in its FMS ADMIN CONSOLE there. I have beeen checking the windows services, it shows flash media server is running.i have installed FMS in Default port (1935,1111).i have MCAFEE Antivirus.1st time it blocks the My FMs then i Allowed it & after that there is no issue.i am not getting what is the problem,is anything blocking the FMS.Even I am not able to start/see the control panel of FMS (Flash media server). I am guessing it is a port problem,Is it or any firewall issue?Please Suggest.

Also, I guess the answers would differ depending on the language, so I'm looking for information related to the English/en-US versions only (I believe there is an en-GB version as well?) The Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant allows one to create USB/DVD (ISO) media: Is the media customised per-PC in any way, or are copies created on different PCs with different base OSes (XP/Vista/7) exactly the same? If the ISOs are not customised, are they exactly the same content-wise as the Upgrade DVDs available for purchase?

    I recieve the following error when I try to configure SharePoint 2010 Server: "Cannot connect to the database master at SQL server at [computer.domain]. The database might not exist, or the current user does not have permission to connect to it."   • Kickstart installation from USB -- Kickstart location

    After managing to get a Fedora ISO to rebuild successfully (for a USB stick) after adding a kickstart file (http://serverfault.com/questions/548405/), I now have an issue with locating the kickstart file on the USB media. When this is done from a CDROM you can simply kickckstart by adding this parameter to boot: linux ks=cdrom This will kickstart (providing the kickstart file is named ks.cfg and is in the root of the disk). Now, obviously this will be different for the USB drive, so from my research, I assumed that this line would do the job: linux ks=hd:sdb1:/ks.cfg Evidently this does not work. I get an error informing me this drive is already mounted and cannot be remounted. EDIT: Actual error message: mount: /dev/sdb1 is already mounted or /run/install/tmpmnt0 busy Warning: Can't get kickstart from /dev/sdb1:/ks.cfg To test that the syntax was correct I placed the kickstart file on another USB stick and loaded the same command to grab ks.cfg from the new location: linux ks=hd:sdc1:/ks.cfg This does work (providing USB sticks are mounted in order, boot - sdb1, kickstart - sdc1). The install will kickstart and complete the install with no issue. Obviously having to use 2 pen drives is somewhat frustrating and unreliable. Is there a way around this?

    Hi All, I have tried to install a 32 bit Netegrity(CA) siteminder web agent on 64 bit Windows server 2003. The IIS server is V 6.0 and so it is also 64 bit. But the problem is while configuring the agent it is showing metabase error. Previously 64 bit web agent was installed on the same server and removed. The IIS V 6.0 is also reinstalled on the server. But after that when I tried to install 32 bit siteminder web agent, it is showing an error as said above. Is it possible to install a 32 bit siteminder web agent on 64 bit IIS?     I am trying to get Openfire to install on an Ubuntu virtual machine, however upon completing the web based installer, I am unable to login to the admin panel. So far I: downloaded debian installer Installed using stock options Added database and built the structure using supplied sql file Completed web based installer I am now trying to login using username: admin and my password, however I constantly get a wrong username/password error. There is a record generated in the MySQL DB showing the admin user with an encrypted password, and changing to an unencoded password doesn't work. Can anyone help pinpoint the problem here? Thanks

    I have built a computer for a user that asked me for "speed": an SSD was the obvious solution because what he means by speed is "fast boot time". This solved the problem, however the user is not smart enough to remember that he must install programs on D rather than C (c is the ssd, D is an raid 1 hdd). The only solution that comes in my mind is changing programfiles variable such that will point to D rather than C by default. Otherwise, other solutions are ok but I really can't find anything else at the moment. Does anyone have recommendations for how to accomplish changing the default installation directory in Windows?

    today i tried to install win7 from an external hdd to my system. i tried this tut http://www.pcworld.com/article/165159/install_windows_7_from_an_external_hard_drive.html and everything went fine till i pluged off the external hdd. after i pluged it off and tried to restart the system i get a missing boot manager error. if i plug the external hdd in again it's all working fine again. i've searched for the last 2h and didn't find a good answer. did any of you have one ? regards Alex ps: i already tried any forms of reperation and the system is installed on the correct hdd.

  • Windows 7 x64 installation freezes on new PC build

    Symptoms While attempting to install Windows 7 (64 bit) on my new PC build, it freezes usually at the point where it is expanding the windows image, but has frozen as early as accepting the licence agreement, and as late as just after the first restart. My specs are at the bottom of the post. So far I have tried the following to identify the problem, in rough chronological order: Tried different hard drives with different sata cables. Same symptoms. I later used a different computer to install windows on the same hard drive with no problems. Tried the RAM in different slots, and tried one RAM stick instead of two. Same symptoms. Updated the BIOS to 1.60. Same symptoms. Ran Memtest86+ with RAM in dual channel. It passed about 6 times when I left it running overnight. Used USB to install windows instead of an optical drive. Same symptoms. Change SATA configuration from AHCI to IDE. Same symptoms. Tried various different SATA ports. Same symptoms. Updated BIOS to 1.70. Same symptoms. I saw the RAM did not list my motherboard as being supported even though the motherboard did list the RAM as being supported. So I tried some Kingston DDR3 1333MHz RAM instead. Same symptoms. Other (possibly) pertinent information My CPU idles at about 30 °C. I can't tell what it gets to when it's working. When I installed the CPU, the lever which locks the CPU in place took quite a bit of force to pull down. Now I didn't just yank it down without rechecking the CPU was seated properly about 5 times, but it does seems unusual, and I wonder if the CPU was seated badly if I would see these symptoms? I am out of ideas and don't know how to diagnose any further. I suppose either the motherboard or CPU must be the problem. I am on the verge of taking it to a specialist. The Question How should I proceed from here? Is there anything I can rule out as being the source of the symptoms I am seeing? My Specs CPU: Intel i5 3570k RAM: G.Skill RipjawsX 8GB kit HDD: single 3.5" 500GB SATA or 160GB 2.5" SATA (at different times and sometime together. But no RAID or anything). MB: ASRock Extreme4 Z77 PSU: Silverstone Strider Plus 600W ST60F-P

  • Restarting Hudson - Windows Installation

    Whenever I update/install a new plugin or update hudson. Once the new plugin/update has been installed a button appears "Restart when no jobs are running." If I click this button hudson appears to try to restart but then just hangs. Has anyone else experienced this? Can hudson be forced to restart another way? I've tried restarting the service but this has no effect. I've asked this question over at stack overflow, so will update this if I get an answer from there. Thanks Tom

  • Internet connection & IIS stopped on windows xp after VMware server 2 installation

    Hi, I'm running a local network. My IP ranges from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.15. All IP are static ones. And my router's IP is 192.168.1.1 and I provide it as default gateway and preferred DNS server on client machines. Everything worked fine on this scenario. I could use internet and reach services on other machines. BUT I have installed VMware server 2 on the windows XP to host windows 2003 Virtual Machine (VM). I set the following configuration: Windows XP's => 192.168.1.11. Windows 2003 => 192.168.1.12. (virtual machine) This approach worked just fine as it used to work with Microsoft Virtual PC. I can access mysql & IIS websites on the windows 2003 virtual machine. BUT two things doesn't work anymore on the Windows XP: internet connection - but I can see the MAC address on the wireless router IIS - Ping on 127.0.0.1 it's ok as I can hit localhost:8222 nor localhost Does anyone knows how to fix any of this? (at least the internet connection)

I'm not really a perl user beyond enjoying it for massive directory-recursive find/replace operations within text files, so I haven't much of an idea what the permissions here are supposed to look like, and I'm not really sure how to go about determining how macports has gone and installed perl this way when it's otherwise worked without failure for years now. Does anyone have any recommendations for the sanest path towards rectifying this issue? Also, is there any interesting reason as to why the macports default for the perl5 port installs 5.12.4, and not 5.16.0, which has to be explicitly installed via the perl5.16 port? Thanks again!

  • Cannot find my hard disk while installing linux-“No root file system defined” error

    I am trying install Linux on my computer (tried Ubuntu 10.4 and Linux Mint 9). I started the installation wizard and on the hard disk selection page the hard disk is not displayed. I have a 500GB disk with 5 partitions and windows 7 ultimate in one partition. If I click the forward button, it shows an error- "No root file system defined". I have tried to install by booting from CD and pendrive but both shows the same error. When I load Linux as live CD it doesn't show the hard disk. My hard disk works fine in windows 7. System config: intel i3 2100, 500GB hdd, 2GB ram
