• Howto extract text from a file where date -time is the index

  I have got around 800 files of maximum 55KB-100KB each where the data is in this format Date/Time/Float1/Float2/Float3/Float4/Integer Date is in DD/MM/YYYY format and Time is in the format of HH:MM Here the date ranges from say 1st May to 1June and each day, the Time varies from 09:00 to 15:30. I want to run a program so that, for each file, it extracts the data pertaining to a particular given date and writes to a file. I will not face any problem in writing into directory operations. I am trying to get around, to form a to do a search and extract operation. I dont know, how to do it, would like to have some idea. Thanks Soham

  I'm using Twitter4j and the Android Facebook SDK to fetch status messages. With Twitter4J I get real-time notifications whenever a new status has been added to the stream via StatusListener (Twitter4J). In the Facebook SDK I cannot find a similar way, I can only fetch entire streams over and over again in a fixed time interval using RequestListener (Facebook SDK) as far as I see it. Is there any way to get notified of new statuses in realtime with the Facebook SDK in a similar way as with Twitter4J? I need a T-SQL query that can pull rows from that table where GETDATE matches the day of week and time of those rows. Specifically, I need the query to work if a row has a day/time that starts on one day of the week and ends on the next day.   Hi! I'm receiving a datetime from a SOAP webservice without timzone information. Hence, the Axis deserializer assumes UTC. However, the datetime really is in Sydney time. I've solved the problem by substracting the timezone offset: Calendar trade_date = trade.getTradeDateTime(); TimeZone est_tz = TimeZone.getTimeZone("Australia/Sydney"); long millis = trade_date.getTimeInMillis() - est_tz.getRawOffset(); trade_date.setTimeZone( est_tz ); trade_date.setTimeInMillis( millis ); However, I'm not sure if this solution also takes daylight saving into account. I think it should, because all operations are on UTC time. Any experiences with manipulating time in Java? Better ideas on how to solve this problem?

  I'm racking my brain in order to solve a knotty problem (at least for me). While playing an audio file (using Java) I want the signal amplitude to be displayed against time. I mean I'd like to implement a small panel showing a sort of oscilloscope (spectrum analyzer). The audio signal should be viewed in the time domain (vertical axis is amplitude and the horizontal axis is time). Does anyone know how to do it? Is there a good tutorial I can rely on? Since I know very little about Java, I hope someone can help me.

  I have a site with millions of users (well, actually it doesn't have any yet, but let's imagine), and I want to calculate some stats like "log-ins in the past hour". The problem is similar to the one described here: http://highscalability.com/blog/2008/4/19/how-to-build-a-real-time-analytics-system.html The simplest approach would be to do a select like this: select count(distinct user_id) from logs where date>='20120601 1200' and date <='20120601 1300' (of course other conditions could apply for the stats, like log-ins per country) Of course this would be really slow, mainly if it has millions (or even thousands) of rows, and I want to query this every time a page is displayed. How would you summarize the data? What should go to the (mem)cache? EDIT: I'm looking for a way to de-normalize the data, or to keep the cache up-to-date. For example I could increment an in-memory variable every time someone logs in, but that would help to know the total amount of logins, not the "logins in the last hour". Hope it's more clear now.

• ASP.NET Connection time out after being idle for a while

  My ASP.NET website while trying to connect to the database for first time after a period of inactivity throws an time out exception. I understand the connections in the connection pool get terminated after some idle time for some reason (Firewall or Oracle settings) and the pool or app doesn't have a clue about it. Is there any way to validate the connection beforehand so that the first try doesn't throw an exception? I don't have much control over the DB or Firewall settings. So I have to deal with this is my application.(would prefer if there is any web.config settings) I am using: ASP.NET 2.0. Oracle server 11g, Microsoft Enterprise Library DAAB to do all my DB operations. I did some search on this topic but didnt find any solid solution for this yet :(

To navigate, Right click on 'Mycomputer' - Properties - Advanced tab - click on SETTINGS of 'Startup and recovery' = 2nd displayed check box. The value thought to be in c:\boot.ini file, but it has value of other timeout 'Time to display other operating systems'. After some searching, i found that 'c:\windows\bootstat.dat' file holds the timeout value for 'Time to display recovery options when needed'... but, i am not able to decode the .dat file or edit that file.. any suggestions would he helpful for me..   I've been trying to come up with a method, that given a day of week and time of day, it will return if it falls under a custom weekend period. The weekend period is saved in 4 variables as follows: The day of week when it starts (0-6) The time of day when it starts (0-23) The day of week when it ends (0-6) The time of day when it ends (0-23) Based on these fields, the weekend period can be anything the user selected (even if it is well beyond a regular weekend) I've been banging this one for awhile but to no avail. I'm trying this in delphi but any language will do, as I'm looking for the algorithm and not the implementation.

  Hi guys. I'm using Codeigniter for a small project, and my model works correctly except for the dates. I have a column defined: created_at datetime not null and my model code includes in its array passed into db-insert: 'created_at' = time() This produces a datetime value of 0000-00-00 00:00:00. When I change it to: 'created_at' = "from_unixtime(" . time() . ")" it still produces the 0 datetime value. What am I doing wrong? How can I set this field to the given unix time? Also, I know mysql sets TIMESTAMP columns automatically for you - I'm not interested in that solution here. So far I can't find a complete example of this on the web.

• Flash crash on long JSON load time

  I have a Flex program that gets a JSON array from a PHP script. The PHP script doesn't contain just a simple JSON array but it grabs data from Activecollab and do some work on the data before encoding the data. The first test involve a small JSON array that took a short time to encode by PHP. However, when I try to scale up the test, the Flash movie will crash trying to load the JSON data from PHP. There's no code difference between the tests, just the amount of data and amount of time it takes PHP to encode. Am I looking at a memory problem or a time out problem?

  I ran the Visual Studio 2008 profiler against my ASP.NET application and came up with the following result set. CURRENT FUNCTION TIME (msec) ---------------------------------------------------|-------------- Data.GetItem(params) | 10,158.12 ---------------------------------------------------|-------------- Functions that were called by Data.GetItem(params) TIME (msec) ---------------------------------------------------|-------------- Model.GetSubItem(params) | 0.83 Model.GetSubItem2(params) | 0.77 Model.GetSubItem3(params) | 0.76 etc. The issue I'm facing is that the sum of the Functions called by Data.GetItem(params) do not sum up to the 10,158.12 msec total. This would lead me to believe that the bulk of the time is actually spent executing the code within that method. My question is ... does Visual Studio provide a way to analyze the method itself so I can see which sections of code are taking the longest? if it does not are there any recommended tools to do this? or should I start writing my own timing scripts?   Another issue I need help with. I use VMware for work on Ubuntu 12.04. However for some reasons my VMware Workstation software generates the following error: Unable to change virtual machine power state: Failed to power on '/home/pst007x/vmware/Windows 7 x64/Windows 7 x64.vmx'. Transport (VMDB) error -14: Pipe connection has been broken. Product: VMware® Workstation Version: 9.0.0 build-812388 Host OS Version: 3.5.0-18-generic Ubuntu 12.10 64bit Kernel Linux 3.5.0-18-generic I have seen patches, but nothing works, and the patches are not maintained, broken links. PLEASE NOTE: I know that this has been asked, but there was no answer given that resolves this issue. Unfortunately I have changed all my office and personal PC's to Ubuntu, and use Win7 in a vm, however since 12.10, vm now fails to launch. For me this is a catastrophe, and makes Ubuntu useless for me to use! I am in a desperate situation here, is there is anyone that can offer any help I would be truly appreciative. I have looked on the VMware forums and the only solution is offered for Fedora, but the people posting there are not clear about what the solution is! thanks PLEASE DO NOT CLOSE THIS QUESTION! I have tried everywhere to find a solution, but I have come up blank... Patches referenced to in other posts do not work in this version of VMware...

  Hi, I have a problem, I am using the content organizer feature to redirect document on upload and the auto create folder feature of it, the property used is a date set by the user when the document gets uploaded. My problem is that when the folder gets created it writes the time set by the user minus two hours, I see that it uses GMT time while everything on the server, the site and the computers is set to UTC+2, so how come it still uses GMT time ?   I have a data structure where an entity has times stored as an int (minutes into the day) for fast comparison. The entity also has a Foreign Key reference back to a TimeZone table which contains the .NET CLR ID Name and it's Standard Time/Daylight Time acronyms. Since this information is stored as time-zone insensitive - I was wondering how in LINQ to SQL I could convert this into a UTC DateTime for comparison against other times that will be in UTC. Just to be clear this conversion has to be done server-side so that I can execute filtering on the SQL Server and not the client. I am using .NET 3.5 SP1 and SQL Server 2008.

• oracle display for every stored procedure the execution time

  Hi all. I'm working on a stored procedure. Inside this one, there are many call to the other stored procedures. There are a bunch of them. I was wondering if there is a option to be able to have the execution time of every stored procedure involved, every function (with a start and end time, ior something like that). The idea is that I need to optimise it and I should touch every part, and since I not sure where is the longest execution time, is a bit difficult. And after a modification I would like the see the hole process if it's shorter or not. If I call the procedure from unix, using sql plus, I have no log. If I call it from TOAD, it's blocked until the end. Any idea? I'm not a dba, so I don't have many rights on the database, I'm just a regular user. Thanks for any advice. C.C.

  I am having an util class which is not owned by me. I am calling one of the method of that util class which inturn calls one ajax function. And gives me response back. I need to make a decision depending on the response object. The problem is that response object takes some time to populate(mili seconds). var selector = dojo.byId("SelectorId"); var theChart = new chart( selector, 135, 92, style, frequency, time); if(theChart.data ===null){ console.log("No response"); }else{ Console.log("Use response data"); } and chart( selector, 135, 92, style, frequency, time); is not owned by me. chart() is from util class. above snippet works fine with break point. But when I remove the breakpoint it starts going in "if" block always. Hows can I solve this issue.
