• Visual Studio 2012 - Setting the target framework in C++ Projects

  The Visual Studio 2012 doesn’t have a UI to set the Target Framework in C++ Projects.     Target Framework : 4.0   The online documentation does say to edit the .vcxproj project and change the TargetFrameworkVersion Tag. However, The C++ projects don’t have that tag by default. They just assume that the target framework is v4.0.   Instead, you have to add the TargetFrameworkVersion-Tag to the PropertyGroup Globals.   1: <PropertyGroup Label="Globals"> 2: ... 3: <RootNamespace>...</RootNamespace> 4: <TargetFrameworkVersion>v4.5</TargetFrameworkVersion> 5: </PropertyGroup>   When you reload the project, the target framework version in your project will be changed. • Pix for visual studio express 2012 (Desktop)

  (Originally asked on stackoverflow) Using visual c++ express 2010 for direct3d you have to download the directX sdk and there is a tool called pix for debugging shaders, looking at 3d resources etc. With visual studio 2012 express the directx sdk is included in the windows sdk that comes with it but this does not seem to include the winpix.exe tool. Is this very useful tool still available? I guess I can still use the one from the previous sdk but it seems wrong to install the entire sdk just for that tool. Is there a version for VS2012 express that I'm missing?

  This is the second day at TechEd North America 2012 and yesterday I had many conversations about PowerPivot and SSAS Tabular. In the evening the book signing at O’Reilley booth has been a big success! I’m writing this post from the speaker’s room. It’s not crowded this morning because the keynote is going on and there are no people also in the hall, everyone is in the keynote room. Today will be a very busy day: I’ll be staffing at Technical Learning Center from 12:30pm to 3:30pm so this is a first chance for joining the conversation about Tabular and DAX. But there is another choice this evening at Community Night starting at 6:30pm until 9:00pm. Join us at this Ask the Expert event! • SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 1 is available!

  Microsoft has released Service Pack 1 for SQL Server 2012. Though so far it is only being made available for the x64 platform. You can read about the fixes in the following KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/20120401 The build # appears to be the same as RTM: 11.0.2100. Which may mean it's just a ploy to bring on board all those folks who still think it's necessary to wait for SP1. I haven't tried installing it yet, as I'm still on travel, but please let me know if you have any issues....(read more)

  I will deliver two sessions at the next PASS Summit 2012: one is title Inside DAX Query Plans and the other is Near Real-Time Analytics with xVelocity (without DirectQuery).These will be two sessions that require a lot of preparation and even if I have already much to say, I still have a long work to do this summer in order to go deeper in several details that I want to investigate for completing these sessions.I already look forward to come back in Seattle!In the meantime, you have to study SSAS Tabular and if you want to get a real jumpstart why not attending one of the next SSAS Tabular Workshop Online?
