• Remote desktop logs in with saved credentials when connecting from one computer but asks for username and password from another.

  I have two computers on which I recently installed windows 7 64 bit. Using VPN, they connect to remote network on which there is a Windows Server 2000 SP4 computer. User is supposed to connect to server using remote desktop. I set same VPN and remote desktop settings on both computers with Windows 7. I set Remote desktop to save connection credentials on both computers, but when I connect to server form one computer, it uses saved credentials and I don't get log-in prompt on server side. On the other computer with same settings using same username and password, I get log-in prompt once the remote desktop connects to server. I even tried copying the .rdp file from the computer on which everything is working fine to the other computer, but that didn't help. Note that I'm not trying to have both computers connected at the same time. What is causing this and how do I make the other computer skip windows server 2000 log-in prompt.

  Hi, I'd like to measure memory allocation data from my java application, i.e. the sum of the size of all objects that were allocated. Since object allocation is done in young generation this seems to be the right place. I know jconsole and I know the JMX beans but I just can't find the right variable... Right at the moment we are parsing the gc log output file but that's quite hard. Ideally we'd like to measure it via JMX... How can I get this value? Thanks, Marcel

Within the NAnt task is a C# script which prompts the developer for database credentials (username, password, database) in order to compile the forms and reports. I want to then run these credentials against the relevant database to ensure the credentials entered are correct and, if they are not, prompt the user to re-enter their credentials. However, as mentioned in the link, Microsoft is discontinuing support for this so it is not a desireable solution. I have also fonud that Oracle provides its own classes for connecting to Oracle databases clicky. However, this only seems to support connecting to Oracle 9 or newer databases (clicky) so it is not feasible solution as I also need to connect to Oracle 6i databases. I could achieve this by calling a bat script from within the C# script, but I would much prefer to have a single build file for simplicity. Ideally, I would like to run a series of commands such as is contained in the following .bat script: rem -- Set Database SID -- set ORACLE_SID=%DBSID% sqlplus -s %nameofuser%/%password%@%dbsid% set cmdsep on set cmdsep '"'; --" set term on set echo off set heading off select '========================================' || CHR(10) || 'Have checked and found both Password and ' || chr(10) || 'Database Identifier are valid, continuing ...' || CHR(10) || '========================================' from dual; exit; This requires me to set the environment variable of ORACLE_SID and then run sqlplus in silent mode (-s) followed by a series of sql set commands (set x), the actual select statement and an exit command. Apparently found that while adding user using Admin login allows registration form to have fields like email address, username, password,confirm password, etc with validations. But when anonymous use wants to register, then only fields like email address and username are displayed. I tried with Profile module available. But now how could I add some fields (password, confirm password, terms & condition check and receive news letter check box)and behavior (password, confirm password validation etc.)? If I am adding such fields they are also get visible in AdminAdd user form resulting duplicate fields like Password,Confirm password. Could you please suggest me how can I do this? I tried googling but confused me a lot as I am beginner to Drupal.

  Lets say you have a 96 kbit mp3 and you Transcode the file into a 320 kbit mp3. How could you programmatically detect the original bit rate or quality? Generation loss is created because each time a lossy algorithm is applied new information will be deemed "unnecessary" and is discarded. How could an algorithm use this property to detect the transcoding of audio. 128 kbps LAME mp3 transcoded to 320 kbps LAME mp3 (I Feel You, Depeche Mode) 10.8 MB.   What is the Best practice of dynamic changing password for this scenario? The scenario is: There are three web apps using ASP.NET. App1 checks the passwords of app2/app3 to authenticate the identity, and if app2/app3 is authenticated then app1 is allowed to receive information from App2 and App3. And app1 has to change the passwords of app2/app3 every two hour for security reason. Is it possible that there is a way to implement this scenario without app1 saving the passwords of app2/app3 for security reason? Or is there any best practice for dynamic changing password scenario?

  I have a drive mapped to a folder on a remote machine that I connect to using the Cisco VPN client. The password to the Windows account I use on that remote machine has changed. I had stored the username/password locally, using Window's remember my password feature, so I wouldn't have to enter it every time (the enter user/password login dialog used to appear each time I attempted to open the remote folder, and I would have to look up and enter my credentials). The password to that remote Windows account has changed. Now, I am no longer prompted to enter a user name / password, but instead, upon trying to open the remote folder, receive a message: unknown user name or bad password. How do I view and change these stored credentials?

My questions: What methods do you use to create passwords, e.g. for different online sites/logins? What methods do you use to remember those passwords? Memory? Pen&Paper? Software storage? Is there some good way to store my passwords somewhere, so I can always have access to them when I need them (e.g. a webbased solution on my own server) but at the same way keep them away from unwanted access? All my other client validation is done with MicrosoftMvcValidation.js by just adding the Html.EnableClientValidation(); call. Some of my considerations. Should the confirm password be part of the model object? Using that approach i have created server side validation by creating my own model binder. • Password Manager that can sync a Blackberry and Mac OSX.

  I use a Blackberry Bold and a Macbook Pro. I am looking for a solution to have a synchronized password manager between the two devices. All the commercial ones I have discovered won't work between a Blackberry and a Mac. The almost solution was KeePass. I like the application on the Blackberry but I could not get the sync working reliably to the Mac. As well, I had to run the PC application by using Mono on the Mac and it was pretty slow. I am happy to pay for a good solution.

  I am manage a group of VM and I need to setup all vm create a ssh tunnel to a specific host A. One way to do this is append public key of each VM to host's authorized_keys, but I guess I have to do the append each time i create a VM. So I am trying to config host A to accept pem or private key login without passowrd, just like EC2, client can use "ssh -i PEM" to login host A. But I have tried in vain for hours. I create a rsa public/private key and let VM use the private key to login, no matter what I do, host a still ask for password. Is there anything I missed ? Thanks.

• Windows 7 login automically puts "IIIII....." in password, so it is impossible for me to login?

  I have no idea why this is happening. I have ran multiple malware programs, I have run anti-virus programs, I even restored to an early point in time. The keyboard letter "I" doesn't appear to be stuck, I am using an external keyboard by the way. When I reboot the computer and get to the login screen, when I press ctrl-alt-del to login, it the password textbox starts putting "IIIIIIIIIIII......", it only stops when I bang on the keyboard. I also noticed at one point that my caps lock on turned caps off and caps lock off turned caps on and some other weird behavior. I have tried search online for similar issues, but no luck.

  I am using YourKit (11.0) to try to profile my j2ee app. The app uses java 6 and running on 64-bit linux (centos). I was told that YourKit possibly tells us which objects exist in which generation (eden, old, etc) at any given point of time. On a side note, I am trying to chase a problem where memory usage keeps increasing until a major collection happens (every 4 hrs) and I am suspicious about few particular objects, so I am interested to know where those objects lie at different times. Fortunately I know lot of memory is being consumed in one particular area of code (so other objects are possibly directly being put into the old gen), but don't exactly know how much of that memory is being put into eden space, how much is being collected by the minor collections, etc. Thanks.

• How can I clear the "authentication cache" in Windows 7 to a password protected samba share?

  I have a Linux samba server and have explicitly listed users that can access the folder. I have successfully congfigured Samba to require a username and password when accessing the share from windows (using the smbpasswd, etc.). But now I want to force clear the auth cache on the windows machine. Such as when I go to a colleague's computer, I use my account to access a file in the protected share, but then before I leave his computer, i'll want to make sure the authorization cache is cleared so he cannot access that folder with my credentials. I found the command to use in the windows command prompt on google a couple of weeks ago but silly me I didn't save it... Hope someone can help, thanks! Oh, Samba is configured as a workgroup and not a domain (if that helps) - so windows users do NOT log into a domain on start up. thanks!

We'd now like to add an additional directory/share which can be secured by a password so that only a small number on the network have access. Is this possible? I've already tried creating the additional folder on the mac system, adding it to the shared folders, and limiting it to a specific "shared user", however it's not possible to log-in from an XP machine. Adding a sub-directory to the currently working share and giving limiting it's access to the shared user doesn't work either.
