• Git: removing selected commits from repository

  I would like to remove selected commits from a linear commit tree, so that the commits do not show in the commit log. My commit tree looks something like: R--A--B--C--D--E--HEAD I would like to remove the B and C commits. So that they do not show in the commit log, but changes from A to D should be preserved. Maybe by introducing a single commit, so that B and C become BC and the tree looks like. R--A--BC--D--E--HEAD Or, ideally, after A comes D directly. D' representing changes from A to B, B to C and C to D. R--A--D'--E--HEAD Is this possible? if yes, how? Some notes that might be helpful: This is a fairly new project so has no branches as of now, hence no merges as well. Side note: It's a personal project, so no, I'm not trying to destroy any evidence :)

• How to use a proprety/value table in MySQL

  I inherited a mysql database that has a table with columns like this: object_id, property, value It holds data like this: 1,first_name,Jane 1,last_name,Doe 1,age,10 1,color,red 2,first_name,Mike 2,last_name,Smith 2,age,20 2,color,blue 3,first_name,John 3,last_name,Doe 3,age,20 3,color,red ... Basically what I want to do is treat this table as a regular table. How would I get the id numbers (or all properties) of a person who is age 20 sorted by last and than first name? So far I have: SELECT object_id FROM table WHERE property = 'age' AND value = '20' union SELECT object_id FROM table WHERE property = 'color' AND value = 'red' But I'm not sure how to go about ordering the data.   Example: Table: box boxID color 01 red 02 blue 03 green Table: boxHas boxID has 01 apple 01 pear 01 grapes 01 banana 02 lime 02 apple 02 pear 03 chihuahua 03 nachos 03 baby crocodile I want to query on the contents of each box, and return a table with each ID, color, and a column that concatenates the contents of each box, so I use: SELECT box.boxID, box.color, GROUP_CONCAT(DISTINCT boxHas.has SEPARATOR ", ") AS contents FROM box LEFT JOIN boxHas ON box.boxID=boxHas.boxID WHERE boxHas.has IN ('apple','pear') GROUP BY box.boxID ORDER BY box.boxID and I get the following table of results: boxID color contents 01 red apple, pear 02 blue apple, pear My question to you is: why isn't it listing ALL the has values in the contents column? Why is my WHERE statement also cropping my GROUP_CONCAT? The table I thought I was going to get is: boxID color contents 01 red apple, banana, grapes, pear 02 blue apple, lime, pear Although I want to limit my boxID results based upon the WHERE statement, I do not want to limit the contents field for valid boxes. :-/ Help?

  I have the following HTML. <ul> <li> <a>asdas</a> </li> </ul> In my CSS stylesheet I have general settings for the a tag, and several hundered lines later settings for ul li a. Like this: a:link { color: red; } ... ul li a { color:blue; } Firebug tells me, that first the color:blue is loaded, and afterwards overriden by color:red So far I've always thought, that the order of loading css files and the order of style inside a single css file tell the browser how html elements should be formatted. Unfortunately I'm now experiencing it vice versa. So tell me, how must I correct my style to achieve the a tag inside the li to be rendered blue and not red?

• Change background colour of individual elements on the fly

  Hi, Is there a way in CSS or JQuery where I can dynamically change the background of li tags so they get slightly lighter for each element until it gets to white. For example say I had a list of 10 li elements. The first would have a red (#ff0000) background, the next one would then be a lighter shade of red, and so on and so on until we got to the last one which would have a background of white (#FFFFFF) The list can be any length and i just want the background colour to go from one colour e.g. red to another colour e.g. white. My site uses JQuery so if I have to use that I don't mind. Thanks

• Loop colours from variables for graphics.py [Python 3.2]

  I am creating a graphics program that draws 100 x 100 squares next to each other depending on the user-specified grid size. The user also inputs 4 colours for the squares to be coloured (e.g. if they enter red,green,blue,yellow the squares will be coloured in that order, repeating the colours). Is it possible to loop the colours from the variables the user has given?   I have fews combinations of strings that I need to bring in to one pattern, that is multiple spaces should be removed, double hyphens should be replaced with single hypen, and single space should be replaced with single hyphen. I have already tried this expression. $output = preg_replace( "/[^[:space:]a-z0-9]/e", "", $output ); $output = trim( $output ); $output = preg_replace( '/\s+/', '-', $output ); But this fails in few combinations. I need help in making all of these combinations to work perfectly: steel-black steel- black steel black I should also remove any of these as well "\r\n\t".

• C/C++ enum and char * array

  Ran accross the following code in an article and didn't think it was standard C/C++ syntax for the char* array. As a test, both Visual C++ (visual studio 2005) and C++ Builder Rad XE both reject the 2nd line. Without using #defines, anyone have any tricks/tips for keeping enums and a string array sort of in sync without resorting to STL ? More of a curiosity question. enum TCOLOR { RED, GREEN, BLUE }; char *TNCOLOR[] = { [RED]="Red", [GREEN]="Green", [BLUE]="Blue" }; as an aside, the article this came from is quite old and I believe this might work under GCC but have not tested.

• Changing the tint of a bitmap while preserving the overall brightness

  I'm trying to write a function that will let me red-shift or blue-shift a bitmap while preserving the overall brightness of the image. Basically, a fully red-shifted bitmap would have the same brightness as the original but be thoroughly red-tinted (i.e. the G and B values would be equal for all pixels). Same for blue-tinting (but with R and G equal). The degree of spectrum shifting needs to vary from 0 to 1. Thanks in advance.

  I have a table with 3 fields: color, fruit, date. I can pick 1 fruit and 1 color, but I can do this only once each day. examples: red, apple, monday red, mango, monday blue, apple, monday blue, mango, monday red, apple, tuesday The two ways in which I could build the table are: 1.- To have color, fruit and date be a composite primary key (PK). This makes it easy to insert data into the table because all the validation needed is done by the database. PK color PK fruit PK date 2.- Have and id column set as PK and then all the other fields. Many say thats the way it should be, because composite PKs are evil. For example, CakePHP does no support them. PK id color fruit date Both have advantages. Which would be the 'better' approach?

• Migrating from CVS to Mercurial - how to handle cross-repo symbolic links?

  I have a project that is stored in CVS as numerous modules/repositories. In several of the modules the CVS tree has symbolic links to the files in another tree. For example, the internal support tools have links to binary files (DLL, EXE) that are created and stored in the C# module. In all cases, the files are modified only in in the module where the files exist and are treated as read-only in the tree where the symbolic link exists. More often than not, the files are pulled to machines running MSWindows so the use of symbolic links on the developer machine is not an option. My question is this: Is there a mechanism in Mercurial that can provide the same capabilities?

• jQuery drag and drop behavior with partially transparent image

  I'm trying to develop a drag-and-drop behavior based on the jQuery UI draggable behavior but am running into some road blocks. I want to be able to drag several images with transparent regions around a region of the screen. I want the user to be able to drag the image he clicks and not just whatever draggable div or PNG happens to be z-indexed on top. The below image is a screen grab from my test page. If I click the lower left region of the blue square through the red thing I should drag the square and not the red thing. The red thing is what gets dragged though because it is on top and the browser does not care about the transparency. My question is, how can I make it behave as expected in this situation and drag the square instead? Edit: Seems I can't attach images as a new user. • C# Custom Brush - I want two gradients chaining them together.

  I am making a bar chart and I want two separate gradients for each bar. First I want a gradient to go from top to bottom solid red to transparent red. I want to paint over the top of that a gradient that goes from right to left, black to opaque. So - In the bottom left we should have; Bottom left - Alpha 0 Bottom right - Alpha 0 Top left - Alpha 255 Colour Red Top Right - Alpha 255 Colour Black So in effect I want to take a solid colour, add a left to right gradient to black then take the output of that and add a top to bottom gradient to transparency. All this and I want it to be in a single brush, is this even possible? Thanks!

  i spent some time with the environment variable CA_COLOR_OPAQUE = 1 and have my findings to share. things that make a CALayer non-opaque (slow, more memory, ...): * contents with alpha (like an NSImage with an icon) * NSImage/CGImage from a pdf as contents (even when the pdf does not contain any alpha and opaque=YES) * backgroundColor = nil * CATextLayer with text in a (because it is contents with alpha) * rounded corners? maybe/sometimes * masksToBounds? not necessarily as we scale most of tree with CATransform3DScale on sublayerTransform i found also these rather irritating non-opaque: * CAGradientLayer that is somewhere down in this scaled tree (even when set all the gradient colors without alpha) * edgeAntialiasingMask != 0 of a layer that is somewhere down in this scaled tree the last two do not make sense to me. why should it be non opaque? what do i see? if anyone has any thoughts on these findings, i'm happy to learn as i couldn't find such a list yet.

• border highlighting loop with jquery

  I'm having trouble coming up with a loop that changes the border color of an image from black to yellow and yellow to black over x seconds. Then applying an interrupt to the loop when the image gets clicked on. I don't know where to start, can someone point me in the right direction? I think I may be using the wrong tools to properly write this. Here's what I've come up so far, though if there's a better way to write this, do share! for( i = 100; i >= 0; i--) { $("#imgid").css("border-color", 'rgb(' + i + '%,' + i + '%,0)'); } I'm having trouble picturing how I could combine two loops so that I can also count upwards as well so that it will turn into yellow and back to black. I also don't know how to go about controlling the amount of time it takes for that loop to execute and creating an interrupt when #imigid is clicked. Which is where I'm not sure how to write.

  I'm manually building an SQL query where I'm using an Array in the params hash for an SQL IN statement, like: ("WHERE my_field IN('blue','green','red')"). So I need to take the contents of the array and output them into a string where each element is single quoted and comma seperated (and with no ending comma). So if the array was: my_array = ['blue','green','red'] I'd need a string that looked like: "'blue','green','red'" I'm pretty new to Ruby/Rails but came up with something that worked: if !params[:colors].nil? @categories_array = params[:colors][:categories] @categories_string ="" for x in @categories_array @categories_string += "'" + x + "'," end @categories_string.chop! #remove the last comma end So, I'm good but curious as to what a proper and more consise way of doing this would look like?   I have a 2 dimensional array forming a table: [color][number][shape ] ------------------------- [black][10 ][square ] [black][10 ][circle ] [red ][05 ][triangle] [red ][04 ][triangle] [green][11 ][oval ] and what I want to do is group largest common denominators, such that we get: 3 groups group #1: color=black, number=10, shapes = [square, circle] group #2: color=red, shape=triange, numbers = [05,04] group #3: color=green, number=11, shape = oval I wrote code that will handle a 2 "column" scenario, then I needed to adjusted it for 3 and I was figuring I might as well do it for n. I wanted to check first if there is some literature around this but I can't think of what to start looking for!

  Hi, hows it going, I have searched through the forums and good old google and have found many answers but non seem to work on my page. Anyway here is the question, I have 2 divs that are positioned side by side, and I wish to get rid of the whitespace www.blisshair.com.au/test.html :(http://www.blisshair.com.au/test.html) I want to the black from the "link 1" to join to the main content in the center, Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank you. EDIT: Tried opening in Internet explorer 8 and it seems top exactly how I want it, besides the 2 bottom divs not lining up, Is it possible to do this with an UL and SPAN tags ? I am aiming for a tabbed look, for example, when you click on link 2, the background around link 2 goes black and the black color "flows" into the main content page, sorry if this doesnt make sense, early AM here :D Thanks again

• Stable separation for two classes of elements in an array

  Consider the following problem. We are given an array of elements belonging to one two classes: either red or blue. We have to rearrange the elements of the array so that all blue elements come first (and all red elements follow). The rearrangement must be done is stable fashion, meaning that the relative order of blue elements must be preserved (same for red ones). Is there a clever algorithm that would perform the above rearrangement in-place? A non-in place solution is, of course, straightforward. An obvious in-place solution would be to apply any stable sorting algorithm to the array. However, using a full-fledged sorting algorithm on an array intuitively feels like an overkill, especially taking into account the fact that we are only dealing with two classes of elements. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

• android dialog transparant

  It is a simple stupid question, but i cant find any info on the web. I have an android app with a custom dialog. The dialog has the default grey 1px border. But it also has a black border around that grey line. I want to remove the black part. the dialog is made in xml and i call: dialog.setContentView(R.layout.xxxxx); as soon as i do that the black border is there. However the xml has not a background color set. also a transparant color in the xml doesn't helps. if i do not call setcontentview. then a small dialog appears but without a strange border.
