• ubuntu 13.04 recognizes usb mobile broadband modem as ethernet connection

  When I plug in my usb mobile broadband modem (ZTE MF-667), in the network manager instead of a mobile broadband connection, I get an ethernet connection, called: Ethernet Network (ZTE WCDMA Technologies MSM), which of course doesn't work. • Having to check collisions twice per game tic

  I have vertically moving elevators (3 solid tiles wide) and static solid tiles. Each are separate entities and therefore have their own respective collision routines (to check for, and resolve, collisions with the main character) I check my vertical collisions after characters vertical movements and then horizontal collisions after horizontal movements. The problem is that I want my platform to kill the player if it squashes him from the top, and also if he's on a moving platform (that is moving up) that squashes him into a solid block. Correct behaviour, player on solid blocks being squashed from above by decending elevator Here is what happens. Gravity pushes character into solid block, solid block collision routine corrects characters position and sits him on the solid block which pushes him into the moving elevator, elevator routine then checks for collision and kills player. This assumes I am checking solid blocks first, then elevator collisions. However, if it's the other way around, this happens.... Incorrect behaviour, player on accending elevator gets pushed into solid blocks above Player is on an elevator moving up, gravity pushes him into the elevator, solid block CD routine detects no collision, no action taken. Elevator CD routine detects character has been pushed into elevator by gravity, corrects this by moving character up and sitting him on the elevator and pushes him into the solid blocks above, however the solid block vertical routine has now already run for this tic, so the game continues and the next solid block collision that is encountered is the horizontal routine. This detects a collision and moves the character out of the collision to the left or right of the block which looks odd to say the least (character should get killed here). The only way I've managed to get this working correctly is by running the solid block CD, then the elevator CD, then the solid block CD again straight after. This is clearly wasteful but I can't figure out how else to do this. Any help would be appreciated.

• No 'Hardware' tab in audio and no profiles

  If I run the 12.x ubuntu (latest May 2012) from the CD, I get full audio settings, and sound playing in speaker. Profiles let me change analog to digital in/out. Once I run install from the same CD onto the laptop HD, once it boots the first time, after selecting audio settings, there is no 'Hardware' tab and no way to change profiles. Worst part is the audio device is set to SPDIF so nothing comes out of the speakers. Very off how booting off the CD I can get analog audio, and installing to HD and booting seems to limit the profile to something useless. Laptop is a 5 year old Dell D820 with Nvidea 128meg video on a 1920x1200 screen and T7200 CPU. I suspect if I could get the damn HARDWARE tab back in audio settings, I could just select the proper Analog profile - just as is the case if running from a boot CD. Searched the web, no similar problems found... any help appreciated!

  Hello, I am researching about how to set up CI and continuous deployment for a small team project for a Django based web application. Here are needs: Developer check in the code into a hosted SVN server (unfuddle.com) A CI server detects new checkin, check out the source, build, run functional tests. If tests all passed, deploy the code to the webserver on Amazon EC2. For now, the CI server is also responsible to run the functional tests. I figured out that I can use Husdon as the CI server, use Selenium to run functional tests, and use Fabric to deploy the build to remote web server in Amazon cloud. I am new to Django development and not very familiar with opensource tools. My questions are: I can find some information to integrate hudson with selenium, but I couldn't find much information on how to integrate Fabric to Hudson as well. Is this setup viable? Do you see problems? How do I integrate and deploy database changes? Most likely in the early stage we will change database schema very often with code changes. I used to use Visual Studio and the database project made it very simple to deploy. I wonder if there is "established, well-supported" way to do that. Thanks!!

• Ubuntu 9.10 LiveCD stalls after "Install Ubuntu" selected from boot menu on eMachines

  I am trying to install Ubuntu 9.10 from the ISO on a CD (it needs to be this version) on an eMachine with a brand new Seagate hard disk. The CD boots OK, and I choose the language. Then I am presented with the boot menu: Try Ubuntu Install Ubuntu etc I have tried the top two choices several times (trying Ubuntu and installing it), but each and every time the installation stalls and the disc stops spinning right after I hit enter after choosing the option I want. I have tried different CD/DVD drives, changing the jumpers on both CD drives, different hard drives, and nothing works. Maybe there is a BIOS setting that is choking the installation? Any help would be appreciated. Edit - I just tried running the hard drive as the master on the primary IDE and the CD drive as the slave on the primary with the same results. Maybe flash the BIOS?

• How should we setup up complex situations for tests?

  I'm currently working on what I would call integration tests. I want to verify that if a WCF service is called it will do what I expect. Let's take a very simple scenario. Assume we have a contract object that we can put on hold or take off hold. Now writing the put on hold test is quite simple. You create a contract instance and execute the code that puts it on code. The question I have comes when we want to test the taking off hold service call. The problem is that putting a contract on hold can be actually quite complicated leading to various objects all be modified. So usually I would use the Builder pattern and do something like this.. var onHoldContract = new ContractBuilder().PutOnHold().Build(); The problem I have with this is now I have to pretty much replicate a large part of my put on hold service. Now when I change what putting something on hold means I have two places I have to modify. The other option that immediately jumps out at me is to just use the put on hold service as part of my test setup but now I'm coupling my test to the success of another piece of code which is something I don't like to do since it can lead to failures in one spot breaking unrelated tests elsewhere (if put on hold failed for example). Any other options I'm missing out here? or opinions on which method is preferable and why?

• What folder is this code signifying?

  I am trying to install OpenNi on ubuntu and have found some decent looking instructions but I am not sure what I need to do for this one specific case. • MinGW-gcc PCH not speeding up wxWidget build times. Is my setup correct?

  Hi all, I've been building wxMSW 2.8.11 with the latest stable release of mingw-gcc 4.5.1 and I'm trying to see if the build could be sped up using precompiled headers. My initial attempts at this doesn't seem to work. I basically followed the given instructions here. I created a wxprec.h precompiled header with the following: g++ -O2 -mthreads -DHAVE_W32API_H -D__WXMSW__ -DNDEBUG -D_UNICODE -I..\..\lib\gcc_dll\mswu -I..\..\include -W -Wall -DWXBUILDING -I..\.. \src\tiff -I..\..\src\jpeg -I..\..\src\png -I..\..\src\zlib -I..\..\src \regex -I..\..\src\expat\lib -DwxUSE_BASE=1 -DWXMAKINGDLL -Wno-ctor- dtor-privacy ../../include/wx/wxprec.h That does successfully create a wxprec.h.gch that's about ~1.6meg in size. Now I proceed to build wxmsw using the follow make command from cmd.exe shell: mingw32-make -f makefile.gcc While, the build does succeed I noticed no speedup whatsoever then if pch wasn't used. To make sure gcc was actually using the pch I added -H in the config.gcc and did another rebuild. Indeed, the outputted include list does show a '!' next to the wxprec.h so gcc is supposely using it. What's the reason for pch not working? Did I setup the precompiled headers correctly or am I missing a step? Just for reference comparison, here's the compile times I get when building wxmsw 2.8.11 with the other compilers(visual studio 2010 and C++ Builder 2007). • How to uninstall Ubuntu 12.04 LTS dual booting with Windows 7?

  I need to uninstall Ubuntu 12.04 LTS from my laptop. It's currently dual booting with windows 7. I've searched and found some ways to do this, but all use some kind of a CD to complete the deletion. I have neither the Ubuntu Live CD nor Windows Install CD/Recovery CD. This laptop did not come with one, and I unfortunately have no available storage device to make a recovery CD. Is there a way to completely uninstall Ubuntu 12.04 LTS dual booting without using any hardware? If there's no way, then how to uninstall using the least hardware possible? Or easy to find hardware? I've nothing against Ubuntu. I installed this as a backup/alternative to error-prone Windows 7. However, after a hardware upgrade, including extra RAMs and a new, better CPU, Windows 7 runs smoothly again. Now I'm running low on hard drive space and need the 40 gig or so of space I partitioned for Ubuntu back. Any help is appreciated, and thanks in advance!

  After creating a vhd and going through that process i'm unable to install win7 x64. I've went through various settings and trying to get it right. It'll boot the windows install but then indicate the following error (image included too): A required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now. Note if the windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step.   I have a HP laptop. I upgraded to windows 7 ultimate from home basic. Now I'm trying to upgrade to Windows 8 but when I do I get a message saying not enough system partition. So I opened the disk manager and increased the size of system reserved partition and it was of no use I still got the same error. Then I unfortunately deleted the 100MB system reserved partition by right clicking it and clicking format in the disk manager! Now I am not able to boot any CD's from the startup including OS and recovery CD. Whenever I press esc it always goes to the login screen and it doesn't say anything about the boot from CD option. Now I could not even use my recovery CD. I have 3 questions: Is it necesseary to create a system reserved partition if so how to create it? How to use my recovery cd How to install win 8

• Dell Powerdge840 2.4GHz 64 bit quad core

  I am having an issue, where I have changed the boot order to cdrom and turned off hd boot all together and still my system is unable to detect ubuntu and claims, no boot device found. Some additional information: When this same cd is inserted and dell is booted into win 2003 server (which is what is installed on this machine), it detects the cd drive but not the cd at all (keeps asking me to insert disc) I have also created a bootable flash drive using LinuxLive USB creator and when this is selected in boot order again am told no boot device detected. I was speaking to dell and they suggested perhaps there are no drivers on the actual ubuntu installation for the hardware on this Dell and hence the failure of this dell to detect the ubuntu cd. Now, I don't know too much about computers, but this last bit confused me a bit. If the system detects the hardware (when it is booting it sees the cd rom and in bios it sees when the flash drive is connected), then shouldn't it be able to read what is on those drives? However, if there is some firmware or software install that needs to happen, could someone please tell me where to find the correct drivers for ubuntu and dell poweredge to work together? Shall I be installing the desktop version or the server edition, also, 32 bit or 63 bit? Thank you in advance.

  I would like to have a python module containing some unit tests that I can pass to hg bisect --command. The unit tests are testing some functionality of a django app, but I don't think I can use hg bisect --command manage.py test mytestapp because mytestapp would have to be enabled in settings.py, and the edits to settings.py would be clobbered when hg bisect updates the working directory. I changed my hard drive from ide to ahci (default option) burned the ubuntu cd properly (not the .iso file) using the ubuntu 12.04 distribution I downloaded from the official site, set boot priority to cd/dvd but.. Nothing. It tries to boot from the cd, doesn't manage and turn to boot from the hard drive. I also tried wubi. I opened it through windows, got the window that asks me to choose "demo and installation" or "more on ubuntu" (something like that), I choose the first option, reboot manually my computer and it keeps returning on windows mode and doesn't boot from the cd. What can I do? Thanks!
