• Correctly calling setGridWidth on a jqGrid inside a jQueryUI Dialog

  I have a jQueryUI dialog (#locDialog) which has a jqGrid ($grid) inside it. When the Dialog opens (initially, but it gets called whenever it opens), I want the $grid to resize to the size of the $locDialog. When I do this initially, I get scrollbars inside the grid (not inside the dialog). If I debug the code, I see the width of the $grid is 677. So, I call setGridWidth() again and check the width and now I have 659, which is 18px less, which is the size of the scroll area for the jqGrid (Dun-dun-dun..) When I rezie the dialog, I resize the grid as well, and everything is happy - no scrollbars, except where necessary. My dialog init code: $locDialog = $('#location-dialog').dialog({ autoOpen: false, modal: true, position: ['center', 100], width: 700, height:500, resizable: true, buttons: { "Show Selected": function() {alert($('#grid').jqGrid('getGridParam','selarrrow'));}, "OK": function() {$(this).dialog('close');}, "Cancel": function() {$(this).dialog('close');} }, open: function(event, ui) { $grid.setGridHeight($(this).height()-54); // No idea why 54 is the magic number here $grid.setGridWidth($(this).width(), true); }, close: function(event, ui) { }, resizeStop: function(event, ui) { $grid.setGridWidth($locDialog.width(), true); $grid.setGridHeight($locDialog.height()-54); } }); I am curious if anyone has seen this before. Really, it isn't the end of the world if I initially have unnecessary scrollbars at first, but it is just odd that when I call setGridWidth initially, it doesn't take into account the scroll area of 18px. As far as the magical number 54, that is the number I had to subtract from the height of the dialog value to get the grid to render without unnecessary scrollbars.

• Using IIS Application Request Routing (ARR) for ASP.NET MVC

  I use a simple ASP.NET MVC web (the template you use when you create a new site) and the web works as expected in my live environment. I now try to use IIS Application Request Routing version 2. I have a rule that send all reuqests to a different server that match a rule. The settings are a bit like this: http://blogs.iis.net/wonyoo/archive/2008/07/09/application-request-routing-arr-as-a-reverse-proxy.aspx My rule is just a bit different it is /shop(.*). Only requests that contain shop are send to a different server. I have to use rewrite, not redirect (The same as in the Picture) This works as long as the web the original requests go to is no ASP.NET MVC web. I tried to use a plain htm file in the webfolder and it worked. If put a compiled ASP.NET application into the webfolder it worked. But as soon as I put an ASP.NET MVC web into the folder, request arr served by this application. My understanding is that the ARR should kick in before the web application gets the chance to handle the request. Did anybody use ARR sucessfully as a reverse proxy for a ASP.NET MVC web? EDIT Here is the resulting web config when the rewrite roule is entered.   I'm using RabbitMQ on RHEL 5.3 using the Java client. I have 2 nodes (machines). Node1 is consuming messages from a queue on Node2 using the Java helper class QueueingConsumer. QueueingConsumer consumer = new QueueingConsumer(channel); channel.basicConsume("MyQueueOnNode2", noAck, consumer); while (true) { QueueingConsumer.Delivery delivery = consumer.nextDelivery(); ... Process message - delivery.getBody() } If the interface is brought down on Node1 or Node2 (e.g. ifconfig eth1 down), the client (above) never knows the network isn't there anymore. Does RabbitMQ provide some type of configuration on the Java client that can be used to determine if the connection has gone away. Shutting down the RabbitMQ server on Node2 will trigger a ShutdownSignalException, which can be caught and the app can go into a reconnect loop. But bringing down the interface doesn't cause any type of exception to happen, so the code will be waiting forever on consumer.nextDelivery(). I've also tried using the timeout version of this call. e.g. QueueingConsumer consumer = new QueueingConsumer(channel); channel.basicConsume("MyQueueOnNode2", noAck, consumer); int timeout_ms = 30000; while (true) { QueueingConsumer.Delivery delivery = consumer.nextDelivery(timeout_ms); if (delivery == null) { if (channel.isOpen() == false) // Seems to always return true { throw new ShutdownSignalException(); } } else { ... Process message - delivery.getBody() } } but appears that this always returns true (even though the interface is down). I assume registering for the ShutdownListener on the connection will yield the same results, but haven't tried that yet. Is there a way to configure some sort of heartbeat, or do you just have to write custom lease logic (e.g. "I'm here now") in order to get this to work?

• Android's EditText is hidden when the virtual keyboard is shown and a SurfaceView is involved

  I have a simple user interface: an EditText should be located below a SurfaceView. I use a RelativeLayout to arrange these two views. Now, when I tap on the EditText to open the virtual keyboard the SurfaceView slides up but the EditText is hidden and does not show the typed string. To reproduce, use the following layout XML code: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/RelativeLayout01" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_width="fill_parent"> <SurfaceView android:id="@+id/SurfaceView01" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> </SurfaceView> <EditText android:id="@+id/EditText01" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_alignParentLeft="true" android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" android:selectAllOnFocus="true" android:textStyle="normal" android:singleLine="true"> </EditText> </RelativeLayout> The main Activity class only needs to show the layout. When I start the program and tap the EditText, the virtual keyboard appears but the EditText field is gone. Maybe the RelativeLayout is causing the problems, but I don't know how to reproduce the same layout with another Layout class. Any suggestions are welcome, I really appreciate your help. Thanks. Edit: Here are two screenshots, one showing the EditText at the bottom without virtual keyboard, one with virtual keyboard but with no EditText. It is interesting to note that the SurfaceView and the EditText actually shift upward, the EditText just disappears. BTW this also happens to a button if it is next to the EditText.   I am creating a database that will help keep track of which employees have been on a certain training course. I would like to get some guidance on the best way to design the database. Specifically, each employee must attend the training course each year and my database needs to keep a history of all the dates on which they have attend the course in the past. The end user will use the software as a planning tool to help them book future course dates for employees. When they select a given employee they will see: (a) Last attendance date (b) Projected future attendance date(i.e. last attendance date + 1 calendar year) In terms of my database, any given employee may have multiple past course attendance dates: EmpName AttandanceDate Joe Bloggs 1st Jan 2007 Joe Bloggs 4th Jan 2008 Joe Bloggs 3rd Jan 2009 Joe Bloggs 8th Jan 2010 My question is what is the best way to set up the database to make it easy to retrieve the most recent course attendance date? In the example above, the most recent would be 8th Jan 2010. Is there a good way to use SQL to sort by date and pick the MAX date? My other idea was to add a column called ‘MostRecent’ and just set this to TRUE. EmpName AttandanceDate MostRecent Joe Bloggs 1st Jan 2007 False Joe Bloggs 4th Jan 2008 False Joe Bloggs 3rd Jan 2009 False Joe Bloggs 8th Jan 2010 True I wondered if this would simplify the SQL i.e. SELECT Joe Bloggs WHERE MostRecent = ‘TRUE’ Also, when the user updates a given employee’s attendance record (i.e. with latest attendance date) I could use SQL to: Search for the employee and set the MostRecent value to FALSE Add a new record with MostRecent set to TRUE? Would anybody recommended either method over the other? Or do you have a completely different way of solving this problem?

I would like to be able to scroll that Panel so I can scroll through the FormPanels. So far, nothing I've found from searches has helped. I don't quite understand what ExtJS requires in terms of the combination of LayoutManagers, setting the size and setting AutoScroll. Any partial tips will be gratefully followed up. The questions are as follows: Is there a serious processing overhead if I were to include these items in EVERY page (like in the Site.Master for example) thus negating the need for the HtmlHelper to organise the "includes" - considering there would end up being about 20 includes for all the different types of jQuery UI widgets used throughout the site. If the HtmlHelper sorts out the "includes", it will add one every time this DatePicker is used (often there are two on a page) Does anyone have a way of determining whether or not the user has already rendered the same type of control on the page, thus not re-including the same jquery libraries when multiple instances of the DatePicker (for example) are used?

  Continuing to learn prolog, I'm trying to write a permutation(L1, L2) predicate. It should return true, only if L1 can be made up of all elements in L2. My code so far is the following: permutation([], []). permutation([H|T], L2) :- remove(L2, H, R), permutation(T, R). Assuming that the predicate remove(L1, X, R) functions correctly, and it removes X from L1, I do not get correct results: ?- permutation([1],[1]). true ; false. ?- permutation([1, 2],[1]). true ; false. ?- permutation([1, 2],[1, 2]). true ; false. ?- permutation([1],[1, 2]). false. What am I missing. Subquestion: What happens when the remove predicate returns two answers? My implementation returns the new, correct list, and then after pressing ; it returns the original list. Which answer does permutation predicate use? ?- remove([1,2,3], 3, R). R = [1, 2] ; R = [1, 2, 3].

  I'm trying to make an Address control that has an IsReadOnly property, which will make every TextBox inside read only when set to true. <my:AddressControl Grid.Column="1" Margin="5" IsReadOnly="True"/> I've managed to do this just fine with a dependency property and it works. I've tried just about every combination of binding attributes to get IsReadOnly to bind to the AddressControl obejct but can't get it working. I've tried things like this, but I can't get IsReadOnly to bind independently to the AddressControl property instead of its DataContext. <TextBox IsReadOnly="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource Self}, Path=IsReadOnlyProperty}" Text="{Binding City, Mode=TwoWay}" /> I think I'm pretty close. • ASP Classic page quit working

  I've had a set of legacy pages running on my IIS7 server for at least a year. Sometime last week something changed and now this line: Response.Write CStr(myRS(0).name) & "=" & Cstr(myRS(0).value) which used to return nothing more exciting than the string: 'Updated=true' (the sproc processing input params, stores them to a table, checks for errors and when that's all done returns a success code by executing this statement: select 'true' as [Updated] Now my pageside error handler is being involved and offers: myError=Error from /logQuizScore.asp Error source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error Error number: 13 Error description: Type mismatch Important to note that all lots of pages use the same framework - same db, same coding format, connecitonstrings and (so far as I can tell) all others are working. Troubleshot to this point: The call to the stored procedure is working correctly (stuff is stored to the given table). The output from the stored procedure is working correctly (i can execute a direct call with the given parameters and stuff works. I can see profiler calling and passing. I can replace all code with 'select 'true' as updated' and the error is the same. everything up to the response.write statement above is correct. So something changed how ADO renders that particular recordset. So i try: Response.Write myRS.Item.count and get: Error number: 424 Error description: Object required The recordset object seems not to be instantiating but the command object _did execute. • jquery stop image rotation on mouseover, start on mouseout / hover

  I have built a jQuery rotator to rotate through 3 divs and loop them. I would like to add the functionality on mouse over to "freeze" the current div and then start again on mouse out. I've thought about setting a variable to false at the start of the function and setting it true when it's on it's current frame but I've got my self a bit confused. I thought that I would refactor this into a singleton class since this would be more thread safe?: public sealed class PluginService { static PluginService() { } private static PluginService _instance = new PluginService(); public static PluginService Instance { get { return _instance; } } private bool s_initialized; public void Initialize() { if (!s_initialized) { // initialize s_initialized = true; } } } Question one, is it still necessary to have the lock here (I have removed it) since we will only ever be working on the same instance? Finally, I want to use DI and structure map to initialize my servcices so I have refactored as below: public interface IPluginService { void Initialize(); } public class NewPluginService : IPluginService { private bool s_initialized; public void Initialize() { if (!s_initialized) { // initialize s_initialized = true; } } } And in my registry: ForRequestedType<IPluginService>() .TheDefaultIsConcreteType<NewPluginService>().AsSingletons(); This works as expected (singleton returning true in the following code): var instance1 = ObjectFactory.GetInstance<IPluginService>(); var instance2 = ObjectFactory.GetInstance<IPluginService>(); bool singleton = (instance1 == instance2); So my next question, is the structure map solution as thread safe as the singleton class (second example). The only downside is that this would still allow NewPluginService to be instantiated directly (if not using structure map). Many thanks, Ben
