How can I create a simple message box in Python?

I'm looking for the same effect as alert() in JavaScript. I wrote a simple web-based interpreter this afternoon using Twisted.web. You basically submit a block of Python code through a form, and the client comes and grabs it and executes it. I want to be able to make a simple popup message, without having to re-write a whole bunch of boilerplate wxPython or TkInter code every time (since the code gets submitted through a form and then disappears). I've tried tkMessageBox: import tkMessageBox tkMessageBox.showinfo(title="Greetings", message="Hello World!") but this opens another window in the background with a tk icon. I don't want this. I was looking for some simple wxPython code but it always required setting up a class and entering an app loop etc. Is there no simple, catch-free way of making a message box in Python?

database change after pressing 'X' button

What i know:- We can use Ajax to change database from javascript. So whenever we press the 'X' button on title bar it calls "onbeforeunload" event. And by this event we can change the database. But in my case, i want to change the status of user only when user click on 'X' button. Not in case of changing the page. As because changing the page is unloading the page. and closing the page is also unloading the page(As much i know). Is there any way to differentiate between closing the page and moving from one page to other page? I want to use it for changing the status of user(i.e. login/logout), whenever he presses cross button. I don't want to set status "logout" when user changes the page. I want to set status "logout" when user 'X' the button. Plese help me.

Battery life starts at 2:30 hrs (99%), but less than 1 minute later is only 1:30 hrs (99%)

After searching this and other forums, I haven't seen this same issue listed anywhere for Ubuntu 12. Prior to installing Ubuntu 12.10, my Netbook (Acer AspireOne D250, SATA HDD) was consistently getting 2:30-3 hrs battery life under Windows XP Home, SP3. However, immediately after installing Ubuntu 12.10, the battery life starts out at 2:30 hrs (99%), but less than 1 minute later suddenly drops to 1:30 hrs (99%), which seems very odd. It could be a complete coincidence that the battery is suddenly flaky at the exact same moment that Ubuntu 12.10 was installed, but that doesn't seem likely. I'm a newbie to Ubuntu, so I don't have much experience tweaking/trouble-shooting yet. Here's what I've tried so far: enabled laptop mode (sudo su, then echo 5 /proc/sys/vm/laptop_mode) and checked that it is running when the A/C adapter is unplugged, but it doesn't seem to have made any noticeable difference in battery life, installed Jupiter, but it didn't work and messed up the system, so I had to uninstall it, disabled bluetooth (wifi is still on b/c it is necessary), set the screen to lowest brightness, etc., run through at least 1 full power cycle (running until the netbook shut itself off due to critical battery) and have been using it normally (sometimes plugged in, often unplugged until the battery gets very low) for a week since installing Ubuntu 12.10. installed powertop, but have no idea how to interpret its results. 1:30 hr, the energy usage goes from 8.34 W to 13.54 W and the current_now increases, but shouldn't it be using less energy in battery mode since the screen is much dimmer and it's in power saving mode? (or is that normal behavior?) It also seems to drain more quickly than what it predicts, especially with the 1-1.25 hour drop in the first minute of being unplugged, which seems odd. What really concerns me is that Ubuntu 12.10 may not be properly managing the battery (with the sudden change in charge/life from 2:30 to 1:30 or 1:15 within a minute of unplugging), and that a new battery may quickly die under Ubuntu 12.10. I'd greatly appreciate any advice/suggestions on what to do, and especially whether there's a way to get back the 1-1.5 hrs of battery life that were suddenly lost when changing from WinXp to Ubuntu 12.10. How do I stop server control attributes being HTML encoded?

I'm trying to alter the onmouseover attribute of a HyperLink server control, but when I do so the JavaScript call I'm entering gets HTML encoded. For example: linkBooks.Attributes("onmouseover") = "changeImages(""books"", ""/images/common/books-dark.png""); return true;" Gets converted to: onmouseover="changeImages("books", "/images/common/books-dark.png"); return true;" How do I prevent this? The same code worked fine under VS2005 and .NET 2.0, I'm currently using VS2010RC and .NET 4.0.

PHP controllable menubar position

I'm an admin for a page and I want to give certain users dynamic control of the menubar layout. The ideal would be a page with a list with menu items and arrows pointing up and down with each item and when you click them the item is reordered. I have a pretty basic idea of how I can do it but I would like some suggestions. The items are stored in MySQL and I only need help figuring out how the items should be ordered or numbered and how to re-order them. This probably needs some javascript trickery and I'm not familiar with JS.

JSF Open new window and display bean data

I am running JSF 2.0 and the latest version of Primefaces 2.2RC1 I believe. I am trying to create a printer friendly window. When the user clicks on a p:commandLink I want a new window to open and display a xhtml file I have named printView.xhtml. Now I can get the window working fine using JavaScript window.open but when I open the new window it will not render any values it just displays everything as #{myBean.value}. Does anyone know how to properly open a window and extend the current scope of the application into that window so I can call all of my managed beans properly and display the values etc. etc.

Finally I accomplished to cache dynamic images, css, and javascript files using HTTP headers BUT I have a problem now: I have specific dynamic images that are equal but has different URL's. For example: http://example.com/image/src/the-same-image.jpg http://example.com/image/custom/src/the-same-image2.jpg 1 and 2 has the same file content but different URL. This is a problem now because the navigator assumes that the file are different and need to be cached (due to the URL), when the real cached file is only one. I have the possibility to know if the file at the URL's are the same. How I can use the headers to indicate in the Response that possibility, and the navigator will cache only one file?

pyramid view redirection

This question title may be slightly incorrect but I could not find a better one (yet). I'm trying to integrate Mozilla Persona (browserid) into a Pyramid application. The login process is: user can login on any page by clicking on the login button a popup then shows a login form when the users enters correct login/password, an ajax call is made by the popup to a pyramid view that checks users credentials, and calls pyramid remember function if the check succeeded the browserid javascript code then reloads the current page Now I want to handle the case of a new user subscribing to the web app and present a new view asking for a few more details (desired username, etc) Since the "remember" function is called by an ajax call from the popup, I cannot redirect the user the the "/newuser" page. So every view needs to redirect new users to the "/newuser" url whenever the remembered browserid has no corresponding user in the database. Is there a way to intercept user requests before calling a view to call the "new_user" view instead ? Or maybe my authentication approach is fundamentally incorrect and I should rely on another approach ?

Jquery code working in all browsers apart from FF

iFrames and Cookies

I have a site on A.com and an iframe on B.com which reads info from A.com. I realize that there is some problems with third party cookies, iframes and P3P - particularly in Safari [my problem] Is it possible to instead, use AJAX or a hidden iFrame to pass the cookie information from A.com to B.com which will then "recreate" another cookie with the same information on the iframe in B.com. I am trying to do this for authenication - i.e. a user is logged in on A.com and then goes to b.com and the iframe is also logged in ? I was hoping to perhaps pass the data in a hidden iframe and "recreate" the cookie in the iframe on B.com using JavaScript? Is this possible ? Security issues ? What about HTTPS?

How to use PHP-based authentication from non-PHP based AJAX app?

I've been asked to create a stand-alone webapp using "straight" HTML and Javascript that does user authentication against an existing PHP app (backend is MySQL). Unfortunately, I really don't have a firm grasp on how PHP authentication works, and I'd rather not invest a lot of time in learning PHP just for this particular case. I can see two possibilites so far 1) create a PHP wrapper around my new app and use native PHP authentication (don't like this) 2) create a simple REST-ful webservice around the PHP authentication (don't know how to do this) Anything else I should consider? Help is much appreciated!

Are there any good resources on developing ASP.NET for Windows CE Internet Explorer?

I've been tasked with creating a web app to be consumed by a mobile device sporting Windows CE 5.0 (and some with Windows CE 4.2). I've found a host of things that seem to work fine in IE6 on my desktop, but fail when rendered in IE for Windows CE. IE6 is bad enough as it is...does it lose any more functionality on an embedded system? Are there quirks that a developer would need to know about? AJAX seems extremely unlikely. JavaScript seems quirky when linking to a .js file. Panels with scrollbars are finicky. Textboxes can't get focus. DefaultButtons on a form don't work. Any help or resources you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

CLI design and implementation?

I am developing a time management tool for my personal use. I prefer using keyboard over mouse, and on the interface have a general purpose text box which will act like a command line. I have just started thinking about what commands I need, what to use for the command names, how to pass in switches and parameters, and so forth. I wonder if some of you have come across a good read along these lines; something that describes the choices you have for designing a cli, and how those affect the complexity of the interpreter, and extendability of the commands. It makes no difference if the descriptions are language-specific or in general terms. However, my implementation will be with javascript. Thank you.

jquery to php (wait for php script until result/finish)

Hi, I am executing a php call from javascript(jQuery), php sript is sending result back. The problem is that these php scripts are taking some time (milliseconds), and java script is not waiting for them to finish, thus variables are not getting initialized with correct values. The code is simple: $.get("php/validation.php",{'email':email},function(data){ // valid_email now contains true/false alert(data); if(data=="true"){ var valid_email = true;} }); The "alert" is printing true but value of valid_mail is recognized as "false" in the code below. Is there any other better way to call php scripts and wait for until they are not finished? Prashant

Operational Transformation library?

I'm looking for a library that would allow me to synchronize text in real-time between multiple users (ala Google Docs). I've stumbled upon Operational Transformation, which seems to fit my needs. Having said that, I understand the gist of OT, but not the math nor implementation of OT. Thus, I was wondering if there was a drag'n'drop Javascript library that would hook into a text area, generate the transforms, then allow me to apply those transformations onto another client? (I've gotten the Etherpad source, but I can't make head or tails out of it. If anyone could point out how to leverage on Etherpad's OT implementation, that'll be great too!)

I have a webpage using jquery 1.42 The following 2 segments of code live in my page. $('body').delegate('h2', 'click', function() { $(this).after("<p>delegate paragraph!<\/p>"); }); $('body h2').live('click', function() { $(this).after("<p>live paragraph!<\/p>"); }); The live method always works, yet the delegate doesn't fire at all. If I create a trivial page with simple html <body><h2>blah</h2></body> both approaches work. So I'm assuming there is something else going on in my page. With firebug I am seeing no javascript errors, no html errors. and breakpoints on the delegate method definately do not get hit. What else might be the cause of delegate not triggering?

Setting ID to a control inside repeater itemtemplate

Inside repeater's itemtemplate I have a Panel server control. I need to assign special Id for it, because I need to work with some javascript functions that use this Id. In repeater ItemDataBound event I have this: pnlButtonsPanel.ID = pnlButtonsPanel.ID + DataBinder.Eval(e.Item.DataItem, "ID"); But this solution is not good because after a postback the page is re -rendered and I lose the new ID. (And I don't want to rebind repeater after every postback) I tried to set the ID on aspx page like that: <asp:Panel id='<%# Eval("ID") %>' and some other variations but always get compile errors.
