• Segmentation fault when creating a Phonon MediaObject

  I have music playing program made using PySide which uses Phonon to playback audio. I updated to MacOS X Mavericks a few days ago, which meant I needed to reinstall PySide. I'm not sure which of these actions has caused this, but now whenever I try to create a Phonon MediaObject I get a Segmentation Fault: 11 from Python. It's not just in my program, it happens when trying to create a MediaObject in Python without any other actions. • Play mp3 using Python, PyQt, and Phonon

  I been trying all day to figure out the Qt's Phonon library with Python. My long term goal is to see if I could get it to play a mms:// stream, but since I can't find an implementation of this done anywhere, I will figure that part out myself. (figured I'd put it out there if anyone knew more about this specifically, if not no big deal.) Anyway, I figured I'd work backwards from a working example I found online. This launches a file browser and will play the mp3 file specified. I wanted to strip out the file browser stuff and get it down to the essentials of executing the script and having it play an Mp3 file with a hardcoded path. I'm assuming my problem is a misunderstanding of setCurrentSource() and specifying the data types. • Crossfading audio with PyQT4 and Phonon

  I'm trying to get audio files to crossfade with phonon. I'm using PyQT4. I have tracks queuing properly, but I'm stuck with the fade effect. I think I need to be using the KVolumeFader effect. • How to play an .mp3 using QBuffer with Phonon in a PyQt Qt environment

  With the code I have right now I CAN play .mp3 data from files succesfully. However I need to play the same data using a QtCore.QBuffer (NOT from a file). When I use the example of the docs it errors an unexpected type of QBuffer! However...... that is what it SHOULD see, according to the docs. But............... it throws: TypeError: Phonon.MediaObject.setCurrentSource(Phonon.MediaSource): argument 1 has unexpected type 'QBuffer' The code I use is (1): someBuffer = QtCore.QBuffer() someBuffer.writeData(TrackData) mediaObject.setCurrentSource(someBuffer) I also tried (2): someBuffer = QtCore.QBuffer() mediaObject.setCurrentSource(someBuffer) someBuffer.writeData(TrackData) and (3): someBuffer = QtCore.QBuffer() someBuffer.writeData(TrackData) mediaObject.setCurrentSource(Phonon.MediaSource(someBuffer)) The last example (3) throws an different ERROR and wipes my Gui off screen ;-) ASSERT: "d-connected" in file /builddir/build/BUILD/phonon-4.5.1/phonon/streaminterface.cpp, line xxxx Notes: TrackData contains the mp3 data and IS PLAYING OK when I write it to a File and use that as a resource to mediaObject.setCurrentSource(Phonon.MediaSource())I also experimented with a QByteArray but that leads to the same "unexpected QBuffer" error. To be more precise everything I feed setCurrentSource is not accepted. Tried a string (errors an unexpected type of String), tried a QBuffer (errors an unexpected type of QBuffer), tried a QByteArray (errors an unexpected type of QByteArray). BTW: I run Qt, PyQt on Linux. Any ideas??

  hi, I am working on Windows xp and am trying to get a simple video player running. I am trying to use Phonon::VideoPlayer module for this. I am connecting the signal as connect(self.player,SIGNAL("finished()"),self.player.deleteLater) and then , when the Play button is pressed, it makes the following call: self.player.play(Phonon.MediaSource("C:\vid.mp4")) But, this doesn't display the video in the video player widget. Neither can I hear audio. Can anyone help?? I tried using different video file formats but no luck.

  Hi, I have Phonon::VideoWidget, Phonon::MediaObject and Phonon::MediaSource, all initialized as below. videoWidget=new Phonon::VideoWidget(this); mediaVideoObject=new Phonon::MediaObject(this); Phonon::createPath(mediaVideoObject, videoWidget); Phonon::MediaSource mediaSource= Phonon::MediaSource("D:\\file.avi"); mediaVideoObject->setCurrentSource(mediaSource); and all connections laid for Play, Pause, Next, Previous. It is working for few videos while for some other it is throwing IDispatch error #24 (0x80040218) and error type as Fatal. I am using Qt4.4 in windows XP and has backend support as well. I have to play those videos which are throwing the above mentioned error. What might be the reason and how i can overcome the error?

• KDE: How can I select audio output device for mplayer?

  I recently installed Kubuntu 13.10 64-bit, and I'm having a problem with selecting audio output device. In Phonon, when I select audio device preference order and press Apply, Amarok and Dragon will immediately switch to the preferred device. VLC and SMplayer are not affected. VLC has its own setting for selecting the output device, but SMplayer remains a problem. It always plays audio on internal audio, and I can't change output to HDMI. How can I select HDMI for SMplayer's audio output device? I don't know if it matters, but when I select HDMI audio in Phonon and click Test, the test sound plays on the internal audio output as well. In the hardware settings tab, the front left and front right test buttons play audio on HDMI. Also, volume up/down buttons affect HDMI volume when SMplayer is focused. This would make sense if I could get SMplayer to play audio over HDMI, but it would be better if the volume keys affected SMplayer's own volume, or the "mplayer2: audio stream" which appears in volume control while mplayer is playing. EDIT: I've recompiled mplayer with alsa support, and can now select the audio output device from SMplayer's settings. Didn't affect the issue with Phonon of course, but it's a suitable workaround.

  Does anyone know what configuration file is modified when I change settings within this area of the system settings? I keep choosing my Logitech USB Headset as the soundard, and, when I hit apply, it accepts that change and all is good. However, as soon as I close the system settings window, it loses the setting, so I have to leave it open all the time. How can I make this setting permanent? Thanks for any assistance. I'm actually running Kubuntu 11.10.

• Skype no sound on Kubuntu 13.10

  I just performed a fresh install of Kubuntu 13.10 on my machine. Everything is working great except for Skype. I cannot get any form of audio playback in Skype. In the sound settings panel I get a bunch of different sound sources, none of which work! At the moment I have set it to "sysdefault (unknown)" I installed it using the deb package found on the official website. My phonon backend is using phonon-gstreamer. • Kde no sound from Phonon or most KDE apps but mplayer,skype and firefox are ok

  Can somebody tell me why I cannot get any sound with most of KDE 4? I'm running a Gentoo box, I'm in both the 'audio' and 'video' groups. I can get sound with mplayer ( but not smplayer ) Firefox and Skype but nothing else. I can't get the test sound to play from the settings window, but Phonon is not whining about broken sound cards when I start up. I have checked with kmix, we seem to be completely unmuted ( and I can get sound with some apps)

  On Windows XP, I ran "configure", and Qt says that I'm configured to use phonon, but I'm not sure how to set up my environment correctly in Qt Creator. According to the Qt documentation, I need to call: Set DXSDK_DIR=C:\Program Files\Microsoft DirectX SDK (February 2007) %DXSDK_DIR%\utilities\bin\dx_setenv.cmd C:\program files\Microsoft Platform SDK\setenv.cmd How do I do this in the Qt Creator IDE?   I want the filter in a QFileDialog to match all audio file types supported by Phonon on the platform in question. 1 - However I am not able to find a way in Qt to use mime types in a filter. • Capture Flash Audio in 4.7 Edge?

  Is there a way to capture plugin (Flash) audio before it gets to the sound card? I'd like to record plugin audio, hopefully without actually playing the sound. Capturing audio at the device level is an absolute last resort, as the application would pick up all system audio rather than just the Webkit plugin. I'm aware of the recent switch back from QTMultimedia; is this possible with phonon? I spent the night looking for some way to access the phonon graph via QWebFrame (or any of the QtWebkit widgets) -- and didn't turn up much. I also started digging through QTWebkit, particularly NPAPI, without success. For reference, I'm using the edge version of 4.7 (6aa50af000f85cc4497749fcf0860c8ed244a60e) This seems to be a fairly challenging problem. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

• How to remove synaptic without installing all the unwanted packages?

  I am trying to uninstall synaptic. I prefer using apt-get and other command line tools to manage my packages. So I do not need synaptic and the software manager. I'm trying to remove both of them using apt-get. Its a new box. Recently installed Linux Mint mate 15. After installation, the only thing I did was, sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get dist-upgrade After that, I did this command for removing synaptic, sudo apt-get remove --purge synaptic But this gives me a very weird output, Reading package lists... As you can see, apt-get is trying to install the same packages that it is asking me to autoremove. Could someone please tell me, how to uninstall synaptic properly? Or am I missing something? • Correct architecture for running and stopping complex tasks in the background

  I'm having trouble working out the correct architecture for the following task. I have a GUI in Windows Forms that contains a ListBox, listing certain architectural layouts. One an item in this list is selected, a custom Control displays an interactive visualization of the selected layout. Drawing of this interactive diagram is a CPU-intensive task, and can take up to a second on my machine. The kind of functionality I'm trying to achieve is that if a user wants to quickly scroll through the layouts in the ListBox (say, holding down the down arrow key), I don't want my computer to sit there thinking about how to draw the layout before it allows the user to do anything else. The obvious answer is, of course, to run the layout calculations in a separate thread. But how do I make that thread return a whole control? How do I make sure I'm not running two layout calculations at once? I'm fairly new to this complex GUI business. So the real question is what is the right architecture to implement something like this? This seems like something people do all the time, but finding any suggestions on how to do it properly is really difficult.

• Should Android and iPhone UI be different?

  I'm not completely new to developing apps, but I'm at a point where I'm trying to develop something and deploy it on several mobile platforms. To only concentrate on two major ones, suppose I'm developing an app for Android and iPhone and designing UI and the general user interaction architecture. Both platforms give guidelines as to how their UIs should work. For example, most iPhone apps have the Navigation Bar (the one that says Testing 1 and has a Back button) and an Icon Bar for navigating a program, while Android uses an Options Menu fetched via a Menu button and the "back" navigation is handled with the physical Back button on the device. I've seen many apps that try to force the same UI on every platform. For example, custom-building an iPhone style Icon Bar and putting it in their Android apps, but it just doesn't quite look right to me and it feels like it violates UI design guidelines somewhat. Are there any good design patters for implementing something sufficiently similar on both platforms, yet still platform-specific enough so that the user would not feel out of their comfort zone? What do people usually do in these situations?

  I'm using Amarok 2.6.0, on KDE version 4.9.3, on Kubuntu 12.04. I would like to be able to copy my music onto my MP3 player (in this case, my iPhone 3), but to transcode the tracks as I copy them over. However, when I right-click on the selected track, and choose "Copy to Collection" and select my iPhone, the option to transcode to MP3 is greyed out. What additional packages does Amarok need in order to enable the transcode to MP3 option? • Loud and annoying noise on login

  I have a PC with Kubuntu 13.10 64-bit on it. The problem is that whenever I log in (automatic log in is enabled), there is a loud double-click noise that sounds from the speakers whether the volume is muted or not. I have two sound cards; the motherboard audio, which is disabled in the BIOS, and the Creative! Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi SB0460, which I have normal speakers plugged into. Does anyone know how to fix this? Relative lspci lines: 00:01.1 Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. • Problem with sound in Kubuntu 12.10

  I'm really enjoying Kubuntu 12.10 experience, but the problem starts with sound. It wasn't here before, but today sound sounds garbled and echoed and wrong. It happens in Audacity and VLC. It doesn't happen when I test the sound devices nor when I use Amarok to play the music files (but come on, who uses Amarok to listen to a random music file, it's much more natural to use VLC for that ;-) ) Kubuntu/Phonon recognizes 2 sound devices: 1) RV770 HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 4850/4870] Digital Stereo [HDMI] 2) Built-in Audio Analog Stereo I know it has to use the second option, and it probably does, but that's not the case. What I did find out was that I had to rescan for audio devices in Audacity (and probably select "sysdefault") for it to sound normal. Why does it happen? I've tried following some other questions, but well.
