  • Cron Tips for not running cron jobs on holidays (the monday of a three day weekend)

    We have about a one hundred machine set-up with each machine running cron jobs like starting and stopping services and archiving these services' log files at the end of the day to a centralized repository. One headache we have is the three-day weekend (we're closed on holidays). We don't want the services starting up on those days and connecting to our business partner's machines. We currently do this by manually commenting out the most critical jobs and letting a bunch of errors happen all day. Not ideal. Basically if a job has '1-5' set in the day field we want this to mean 'work days' and not Monday to Friday'. We have a database that keeps track of which days are indeed 'work days' So, is it possible to override Cron's day-matching algorithm, or is there some other way to easily set a cron setting to avoid things starting up on a Monday holiday? Thanks!

  • new linux windows open behind existing windows

    I'm running ubuntu and I have a strange issue where any new window I open (open office doc, pidgeon window, etc) open behind current windows. this is frustrating, especially for IM windows as I often don't see the window. Has anyone ever had this issue, and know how to resolve it? Thanks!

  • ExtJs How do I scroll to the bottom of a grid?

    I am making a web-based logviewer using extjs. I would like new log-lines to be added to the bottom of my gridview as it saves cpu by not requiring a sort to move it to the top of the grid (plus its how my coworkers prefer it). My problem is that ideally the grid would scroll to the bottom after a new row is added. I have been looking through the documentation and I cannot figure out how to do this. I just see a method to scroll to the top. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Ruby New dnssd (bonjour zeroconf) service not appearing while browsing

    Here is my simple zeroconf (aka bonjour dnssd) browser. If I have other services running when I start the browser I can see it (the 'resolved to' line prints to the screen). However, if I start up another service while this browser is running it will not appear. It just waits at the top of the block so I would expect it to enter the block once a new service is registered.   • What is the best way to format a date in JSON for Mongo DB storage

    I have a date with a time. I'm using ruby, but the language shouldn't matter. d = "2010-04-01 13:00:00" What is the best way to format this date for Mongo DB? By 'best' I mean, is there a certain format I could use where Mongo would recognize it as a date and might give me more-advanced filtering optons? ie: If formatted correctly, could I ask Mongo to return all records whose month is '04'?   • DNSSD Crash error tells me to use native Avahi API instead of Bonjour layer. How do I do this?

    I get this error trying to run the example script here: http://github.com/tenderlove/dnssd/blob/master/sample/register.rb It says I am using a Bonjour Compatibility Layer and I should use the native api.   • Html5 Audio plays only once in my Javascript code.

    I have a dashboard web-app that I want to play an alert sound if its having problems connecting. The site's ajax code will poll for data and throttle down its refresh rate if it can't connect. Once the server comes back up, the site will continue working. In the mean time I would like a sound to play each time it can't connect (so I know to check the server). Here is that code. This code works. var error_audio = new Audio("audio/"+settings.refresh.error_audio); error_audio.load(); //this gets called when there is a connection error. function onConnectionError() { error_audio.play(); } However the 2nd time through the function the audio doesn't play. Digging around in Chrome's debugger the 'played' attribute in the audio element gets set to true. Setting it to false has no results. Any ideas?

  • From Sinatra Base object. Get port of application including the base object

    I have a Sinatra::Base object that I would like to include in all of my web apps. In that base class I have the configure method which is called on start-up. I would like that configure code to 'register' that service with a centralized database. The information that needs to be sent when registering is the information on how to contact this web-service... things like host and port. I then plan on having a monitoring service that will spin over all registered services and occasionally ping them to make sure they are still up and running. In the configure method I am having trouble getting the port information. The 'self.settings.port' variable doesn't seem to work in this method. a) any ideas on how to get the port? I have the host. b) is there a sinatra plug-in that already does something like this so I don't have to write it myself? :-) //in my Sinatra::Base code. lets call it register_me.rb RegisterMe < Sinatra::Base configure do //save host and port information to database end get '/check_status' //return status end //in my web service code require register_me //at this point, sinatra will initialize the RegisterMe object and call configure post ('/blah') //example of a method for this particular web service end

    The Extjs API site adds a new tab for each search you do. The tabs each have a red X on them to close the tab similar to what browsers have. Check it out here: I'd like to replicate this and it seems like something that would be built-in to the API, but cannot find it. Any ideas?
