  • UUID library for C?

    I'm looking for a UUID library for programming in C, that has a reasonable probability of being installed (or at least installable by package manager) on most modern Linux desktops, and works with pkg-config. The following two possibilities seem most obvious: OSSP UUID Libuuid from e2fsprogs Does anybody have experience with these two and can recommend one over the other, or a third possiblity?

  • How to tell whether a font is monospace using GTK and Pango?

    I have a PangoFontDescription and I want to know whether it describes a monospace font. I have seen the function pango_font_family_is_monospace() in the Pango API documentation but after several hours of puzzling it is still not clear to me what the relationships are between PangoFontFamily, PangoFontMap, PangoFont, PangoFontset, PangoContext, and PangoFontDescription and whether I need any or all of these to achieve what I want. So far, PangoFontDescription is the only part of Pango I've needed to use, as GTK manages to abstract everything else away. Can anyone who has done this before help me out?

  • How to save and load an array of complex numbers using numpy.savetxt?

    I want to use numpy.savetxt() to save an array of complex numbers to a text file. Problems: If you save the complex array with the default format string, the imaginary part is discarded. If you use fmt='%s', then numpy.loadtxt() can't load it unless you specify dtype=complex, converters={0: lambda s: complex(s)}. Even then, if there are NaN's in the array, loading still fails. It looks like someone has inquired about this multiple times on the Numpy mailing list and even filed a bug, but has not gotten a response. Before I put something together myself, is there a canonical way to do this?

  • Painting on GtkScrolledWindow or GtkEventBox

    Using GTK, I'm trying to overlay a "More" prompt (but it could just as well be any drawing object) in the corner of a GtkTextView contained within a GtkScrolledWindow. I draw the prompt in the handler for the expose signal of the text view. It works, but when I scroll the window I get artifacts: the prompt is moved along with the contents of the text view and not erased. In order to get rid of the artifacts I trigger a redraw after each scroll. This mostly works, but you can still see the prompt jumping up and down when you scroll quickly. Is there any way to prevent this? It would be nice if the prompt just "floated" on top of the text view. I tried enclosing the scrolled window in a GtkEventBox and painting the prompt on top of that, but that didn't work either; the scrollbars and text view always paint over the prompt, even when you set the event box's window to go in front of its children's windows. UPDATE If I connect the GtkEventBox's expose callback with g_signal_connect_after(), then it is called after the expose callbacks of the GtkScrolledWindow and GtkTextView. The text view still draws over the event box though. I think this is because the scrolling happens asynchronously. Anybody got any idea how I can prevent my drawing from being overwritten?

  • Really want to know how to set bg image to GtkEventBox.

    I want to set background image to GtkEventBox using style/rc file. The reason i want to do this, I want to put some widgets in that event box so that they will be displayed with the background. I am using GTk+ and C. ptomato: I know previously I had posted same question but there was not satisfactory answer so please don't prompt for that.
