  • Sphinx PHP search

    - by James
    I'm doing a Sphinx search but turning up some really weird results. Any help is appreciated. So for example if I type "50", I get: 50 Cent 50 Lions 50 Foot Wave, etc. This is great, but when I search "50 Ce", I get: Ryczace Dwudziestki Spisek Bernhard Gal Cowabunga Go-Go And other crazy results. Also when I search for "50 Cent", the correct result is at the top, but then random results below. Any ideas why? PHP code: $query = $_GET['query']; if (!empty($query)) { $sphinx->SetMatchMode(SPH_MATCH_ALL); $sphinx->AddQuery($query, 'artists'); $sphinx->AddQuery($query, 'variations'); $sphinx->SetFilter('name', array(3)); $sphinx->SetLimits(0, 10); $result = $sphinx->RunQueries(); echo '<pre>'; switch ($result) { case false: echo 'Query failed: ' . $sphinx->GetLastError() . "\n"; break; default: if ($sphinx->GetLastWarning()) { echo 'WARNING: ' . $sphinx->GetLastWarning() . "\n"; } if (is_array($result[0]['matches']) && count($result[0]['matches'])) { foreach ($result[0]['matches'] as $value => $info) { $artist = artistDetails($value); echo $artist['name'] . "\n"; } } } } Sphinx Index and Source: source artists { type = mysql sql_host = localhost sql_user = user sql_pass = pass sql_db = db sql_port = 3300 sql_query = \ SELECT \ id, name \ FROM artists; #UNIX_TIMESTAMP(time) #sql_attr_uint = group_id #sql_attr_timestamp = time sql_query_info = SELECT id,name FROM artists WHERE id=$id } index artists { source = artists path = /var/sphinx/artists docinfo = extern charset_type = utf-8 }

  • Problem running Thinking Sphinx with Rails 2.3.5

    - by benoror
    Hi, I just installed Sphinx (distro: archlinux) downloading the source. Then I installed "Thinking Sphinx" plugin for Rails. I followed the official page setup and this Screencast from Ryan Bates, but when I try to index the models it gives me this error: $ rake thinking_sphinx:index (in /home/benoror/Dropbox/Proyectos/cotizahoy) Sphinx cannot be found on your system. You may need to configure the following settings in your config/sphinx.yml file: * bin_path * searchd_binary_name * indexer_binary_name For more information, read the documentation: http://freelancing-god.github.com/ts/en/advanced_config.html Generating Configuration to /home/benoror/Dropbox/Proyectos/cotizahoy/config/development.sphinx.conf sh: indexer: command not found I tried starting the daemon manually (/usr/bin/sphinx-searchd), changing the config/sphinx.yml file: devlopment: searchd_binary_name: sphinx-searchd indexer_binary_name: sphinx-indexer But it shows the same error, any ideas ?

  • Thinking Sphinx not working in test mode

    - by J. Pablo Fernández
    I'm trying to get Thinking Sphinx to work in test mode in Rails. Basically this: ThinkingSphinx::Test.init ThinkingSphinx::Test.start freezes and never comes back. My test and devel configuration is the same for test and devel: dry_setting: &dry_setting adapter: mysql host: localhost encoding: utf8 username: rails password: blahblah development: <<: *dry_setting database: proj_devel socket: /tmp/mysql.sock # sphinx requires it test: <<: *dry_setting database: proj_test socket: /tmp/mysql.sock # sphinx requires it and sphinx.yml development: enable_star: 1 min_infix_len: 2 bin_path: /opt/local/bin test: enable_star: 1 min_infix_len: 2 bin_path: /opt/local/bin production: enable_star: 1 min_infix_len: 2 The generated config files, config/development.sphinx.conf and config/test.sphinx.conf only differ in database names, directories and similar things; nothing functional. Generating the index for devel goes without an issue $ rake ts:in (in /Users/pupeno/proj) default config Generating Configuration to /Users/pupeno/proj/config/development.sphinx.conf Sphinx 0.9.8.1-release (r1533) Copyright (c) 2001-2008, Andrew Aksyonoff using config file '/Users/pupeno/proj/config/development.sphinx.conf'... indexing index 'user_core'... collected 7 docs, 0.0 MB collected 0 attr values sorted 0.0 Mvalues, 100.0% done sorted 0.0 Mhits, 99.8% done total 7 docs, 422 bytes total 0.098 sec, 4320.80 bytes/sec, 71.67 docs/sec indexing index 'user_delta'... collected 0 docs, 0.0 MB collected 0 attr values sorted 0.0 Mvalues, nan% done total 0 docs, 0 bytes total 0.010 sec, 0.00 bytes/sec, 0.00 docs/sec distributed index 'user' can not be directly indexed; skipping. but when I try to do it for test it freezes: $ RAILS_ENV=test rake ts:in (in /Users/pupeno/proj) DEPRECATION WARNING: require "activeresource" is deprecated and will be removed in Rails 3. It's been there for more than 10 minutes, the user table has 4 records. The database directory look quite diferently, but I don't know what to make of it: $ ls -l db/sphinx/development/ total 96 -rw-r--r-- 1 pupeno staff 196 Mar 11 18:10 user_core.spa -rw-r--r-- 1 pupeno staff 4982 Mar 11 18:10 user_core.spd -rw-r--r-- 1 pupeno staff 417 Mar 11 18:10 user_core.sph -rw-r--r-- 1 pupeno staff 3067 Mar 11 18:10 user_core.spi -rw-r--r-- 1 pupeno staff 84 Mar 11 18:10 user_core.spm -rw-r--r-- 1 pupeno staff 6832 Mar 11 18:10 user_core.spp -rw-r--r-- 1 pupeno staff 0 Mar 11 18:10 user_delta.spa -rw-r--r-- 1 pupeno staff 1 Mar 11 18:10 user_delta.spd -rw-r--r-- 1 pupeno staff 417 Mar 11 18:10 user_delta.sph -rw-r--r-- 1 pupeno staff 1 Mar 11 18:10 user_delta.spi -rw-r--r-- 1 pupeno staff 0 Mar 11 18:10 user_delta.spm -rw-r--r-- 1 pupeno staff 1 Mar 11 18:10 user_delta.spp $ ls -l db/sphinx/test/ total 0 -rw-r--r-- 1 pupeno staff 0 Mar 11 18:11 user_core.spl -rw-r--r-- 1 pupeno staff 0 Mar 11 18:11 user_core.tmp0 -rw-r--r-- 1 pupeno staff 0 Mar 11 18:11 user_core.tmp1 -rw-r--r-- 1 pupeno staff 0 Mar 11 18:11 user_core.tmp2 -rw-r--r-- 1 pupeno staff 0 Mar 11 18:11 user_core.tmp7 Nothing gets added to a log when this happens. Any ideas where to go from here? I can run the command line manually: /opt/local/bin/indexer --config config/test.sphinx.conf --all which generates the output as the rake ts:in, so no help there.

  • unmet dependencies in Ubuntu 12.04

    - by lee.O
    I tried today to install a dvb-card on my Ubuntu 12.04 (Linux blauhai-linux 3.2.0-25-generic #40-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 23 20:30:51 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux ). The installation failed with an error. After that, i tried to install python (it was already installed but i got this error): linux:~$ sudo apt-get install git Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done git is already the newest version. You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these: The following packages have unmet dependencies: python-glade2:i386 : Depends: python:i386 (< 2.5) but it is not going to be installed Depends: python-support:i386 (= 0.3.4) but it is not installable Depends: python:i386 (= 2.4) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libglade2-0:i386 (= 1:2.5.1) but it is not going to be installed Depends: python-gtk2:i386 (= 2.8.6-8) but it is not going to be installed python-numeric:i386 : Depends: python:i386 (< 2.5) but it is not going to be installed Depends: python:i386 (= 2.3) but it is not going to be installed Depends: python-central:i386 (= 0.5.7) but it is not installable E: Unmet dependencies. • How do I automatically rebuild the Sphinx index under django-sphinx?

    - by Apreche
    I just setup django-sphinx, and it is working beautifully. I am now able to search my model and get amazing results. The one problem is that I have to build the index by hand using the indexer command. That means every time I add new content, I have to manually hit the command line to rebuild the search index. That is just not acceptable. I could make a cron job that automatically runs the indexer command every so often, but that's far from optimal. New data won't be indexed until the cron runs again. In addition, the indexer will run unnecessarily most times as my site doesn't have data being added very often. How do I set it up so that the Sphinx index will automatically rebuild itself whenever data is added to or modified in a searchable django model?

  • displaying python's autodoc to the user (python 3.3)

    - by Plotinus
    I'm writing a simple command line math game, and I'm using python's autodoc for my math algorithms to help me remember, for example, what a proth number is while i'm writing the algorithm, but later on I'll want to tell that information to the user as well, so they'll know what the answer was. So, for example I have: def is_proth(): """Proth numbers and numbers that fit the formula k×2^n + 1, where k are odd positive integers, and 2^n > k.""" [snip] return proths and then I tried to make a dictionary, like so: definitions = {"proths" : help(is_proth)} But it doesn't work. It prints this when I start the program, one for each item in the dictionary, and then it errors out on one of them that returns a set. And anyway, I don't want it displayed to the user until after they've played the game. Help on function is_proth in module __main__: is_proth() Proth numbers and numbers that fit the formula k×2^n + 1, where k are odd positive integers, and 2^n > k. (END) I understand the purpose of autodoc is more for helping programmers who are calling a function than for generating userdoc, but it seems inefficient to have to type out the definition of what a proth number is twice, once in a comment to help me remember what an algorithm does and then once to tell the user the answer to the game they were playing after they've won or lost.

  • Two python distributions, sudo picking the wrong one

    - by DHK
    I'm back to Linux after an over 10 year abstinence (fool me thinks). And a little rusty in the sys admin department. I'm faced with an issue with my python distribution. I'm using Python 2.7, but based on the Anaconda flavour. I followed the standard guidance but recently I discovered an issue that I'm not sure how to fix. Under sudo, the standard Python as comes with Ubuntu is provided. Under my user account python points to the Anaconda version: dhk@localhost:~/home/$which python /opt/anaconda/bin/python dhk@localhost:~/home/$sudo which python /usr/bin/python This is an issue as using sudo pip [anything] usually acts on the wrong directory, yet I cannot use it without sudo.

I just have a config/development.sphinx.conf 2) I have specified min_infix_len & enable_start property from define_index method of model. I also have checked development.sphinx.conf file & these properties are correctly set there. But I am not getting any infix search results. Please help.

  • Make Sphinx quiet (non-verbose)

    I'm using Sphinx through Thinking Sphinx in a Ruby on Rails project. Is there a way to suppress that output?

  • Make Sphinx generate RST class documentation from pydoc

    - by Michal Cihar
    I'm currently migrating all existing (incomplete) documentation to Sphinx. The problem is that the documentation uses Python docstrings (the module is written in C, but it probably does not matter) and the class documentation must be converted into a form usable for Sphinx. There is sphinx.ext.autodoc, but it automatically puts current docstrings to the document. I want to generate source (RST) file based on current docstrings, which I could edit and improve manually. How would you transform docstrings into RST for Sphinx?

  • Django sphinx works only after app restart.

    - by Lhiash
    Hi, I've set up django-sphinx in my project, which works perfectly only for some time. Later it always returns empty result set. Surprisingly restarting django app fixes it. And search works again but again only for short time (or very limiter number of queries). Heres my sphinx.conf: source src_questions { # data source type = mysql sql_host = xxxxxx sql_user = xxxxxx #replace with your db username sql_pass = xxxxxx #replace with your db password sql_db = xxxxxx #replace with your db name # these two are optional sql_port = xxxxxx #sql_sock = /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock # pre-query, executed before the main fetch query sql_query_pre = SET NAMES utf8 # main document fetch query sql_query = SELECT q.id AS id, q.title AS title, q.tagnames AS tags, q.html AS text, q.level AS level \ FROM question AS q \ WHERE q.deleted=0 \ # optional - used by command-line search utility to display document information sql_query_info = SELECT title, id, level FROM question WHERE id=$id sql_attr_uint = level } index questions { # which document source to index source = src_questions # this is path and index file name without extension # you may need to change this path or create this folder path = /home/rafal/core_index/index_questions # docinfo (ie. per-document attribute values) storage strategy docinfo = extern # morphology morphology = stem_en # stopwords file #stopwords = /var/data/sphinx/stopwords.txt # minimum word length min_word_len = 3 # uncomment next 2 lines to allow wildcard (*) searches min_infix_len = 1 enable_star = 1 # charset encoding type charset_type = utf-8 } # indexer settings indexer { # memory limit (default is 32M) mem_limit = 64M } # searchd settings searchd { # IP address on which search daemon will bind and accept # optional, default is to listen on all addresses, # ie. address = 0.0.0.0 address = 127.0.0.1 # port on which search daemon will listen port = 3312 # searchd run info is logged here - create or change the folder log = ../log/sphinx.log # all the search queries are logged here query_log = ../log/query.log # client read timeout, seconds read_timeout = 5 # maximum amount of children to fork max_children = 30 # a file which will contain searchd process ID pid_file = searchd.pid # maximum amount of matches this daemon would ever retrieve # from each index and serve to client max_matches = 1000 } and heres my search part from views.py: content = Question.search.query(keywords) if level: content = content.filter(level=level)#level is array of integers There are no errors in any logs, it just isnt returning any results. All help would be most appreciated.

  • Will Python 3.0's backwards-incompatibility affect adoption?

    - by George Stocker
    I visited Slashdot this morning to find out that Python 3.0 has been released. I know C# and Perl, but have wanted to learn Python for some time, especially after I saw its ease of use to create useful tools, not to mention its use in game scripting. My question is, how does the intentionally backwards-incompatible release of Python 3.0 affect adoption, and should I learn Python 2? Or should I take the dive and learn Python 3.0 first, and wait for the libraries to be ported?

  • How can I remove python 2.7 after installing python 3.3?

    - by phoenix bai
    I have successfully installed python 3.3 on Ubuntu 12.10. Since I don’t need multiple versions of python, I want to remove the existing python 2.7. When I try to do that, using sudo apt-get remove python2.7 Ubuntu warns me that there are tons of system dependent components which will also be removed. It looks really scary. So, is there a way to remove python 2.7 without removing the system dependent components, or can I direct those dependents to use python 3.3?

  • Sphinx non-fulltext, integer only search

    - by James
    Hello guys, I've got a few tables that literally only hold integers, no "words" and for some reason Sphinx is unable to hold this data in it's library. Just returns "0 bytes" errors for these indexes. Is it possible to do this? If so, how? Below is an example from my Sphinx.conf for one that fails. source track { type = mysql sql_host = host sql_user = user sql_pass = pass sql_db = db sql_port = port sql_query = SELECT id, user, time FROM track; sql_attr_uint = user sql_attr_uint = time sql_query_info = SELECT * FROM track WHERE id=$id } index track { source = track path = /var/lib/sphinx/track docinfo = extern charset_type = utf-8 min_prefix_len = 1 enable_star = 1 }

  • Unique keys for Sphinx along three vectors instead of two

    - by Brendon Muir
    I'm trying to implement thinking-sphinx across multiple 'sites' hosted under a single rails application. I'm working with the developer of thinking-sphinx to sort through the finer details and am making good progress, but I need help with a maths problem: Usually the formula for making a unique ID in a thinking-sphinx search index is to take the id, multiply it by the total number of models that are searchable, and add the number of the currently indexed model: id * total_models + current_model This works well, but now I also through an entity_id into the mix, so there are three vextors for making this ID unique. Could someone help me figure out the equation to gaurantee that the id's will never collide using these three variables: id, total_models, total_entities The entity ID is an integer. I thought of: id * (total_models + total_entities) + (current_model + current_entity) but that results in collisions. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

  • Make Sphinx generate me rst for class documentation from pydoc

  • Sphinx PHP Geodist problems

    - by James
    Below is my PHP function to call nearby points using Sphinx for MySQL. There are hundreds of thousands of nearby points which to what I can tell, are being indexed by Sphinx, but simply fails silently when searching with Sphinx. Other Sphinx queries I run against other indexes work completely fine. function nearby($latitude, $longitude, $radius) { global $sphinx; $sphinx->SetMatchMode(SPH_MATCH_ALL); $sphinx->SetArrayResult(true); $sphinx->SetLimits(0, 1000); $sphinx->SetGeoAnchor('latitude', 'longitude', (float) deg2rad($latitude), (float) deg2rad($longitude)); $circle = (float) $radius * 1.609344; $sphinx->SetFilterFloatRange('@geodist', 0.0, $circle); $matches = $sphinx->Query('', 'geo'); return $matches; } $nearby = nearby($latitude, $longitude, 10000); var_dump($nearby); This, when called with valid latitude and longitude co-ords and a very large radius for debugging produces: bool(false) Below is my sphinx.conf covering the geo part: source geo { type = mysql sql_host = 127.0.0.1 sql_user = user sql_pass = pass sql_db = db sql_port = 3306 sql_query_pre = set names utf8 sql_query_pre = set session query_cache_type=OFF sql_query = SELECT id,city,region,country,radians(longitude) AS longitude, radians(latitude) AS latitude FROM points; sql_attr_float = longitude sql_attr_float = latitude sql_ranged_throttle = 0 sql_query_info = SELECT * FROM points WHERE id = $id } index geo { source = geo path = /var/data/geo docinfo = extern #mlock = 0 #morphology = none min_word_len = 1 charset_type = utf-8 #charset_table = 0..9, A..Z->a..z, _, a..z, U+410..U+42F->U+430..U+44F, U+430..U+44F ignore_chars = U+00AD html_strip = 0 enable_star = 0 } indexer { mem_limit = 1024M } searchd { port = 3312 log = /var/log/searchd.log query_log = /var/log/query.log read_timeout = 5 max_children = 5 pid_file = /var/log/searchd.pid max_matches = 10000 seamless_rotate = 1 preopen_indexes = 0 unlink_old = 1 }

  • Getting PATH right for python after MacPorts install

    - by BenjaminGolder
    I can't import some python libraries (PIL, psycopg2) that I just installed with MacPorts. I looked through these forums, and tried to adjust my PATH variable in $HOME/.bash_profile in order to fix this but it did not work. I added the location of PIL and psycopg2 to PATH. I know that Terminal is a version of python in /usr/local/bin, rather than the one installed by MacPorts at /opt/local/bin. Do I need to use the MacPorts version of Python in order to ensure that PIL and psycopg2 are on sys.path when I use python in Terminal? Should I switch to the MacPorts version of Python, or will that cause more problems? In case it is helpful, here are more facts: PIl and psycopg2 are installed in /opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages which pythonreturns/usr/bin/python echo $PATHreturns (I separated each path for easy reading): :/opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/ :/opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages :/opt/local/bin :/opt/local/sbin :/usr/local/git/bin :/usr/bin :/bin :/usr/sbin :/sbin :/usr/local/bin :/usr/local/git/bin :/usr/X11/bin :/opt/local/bin in python, sys.path returns: /Library/Frameworks/SQLite3.framework/Versions/3/Python /Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/numpy-override /Library/Frameworks/GDAL.framework/Versions/1.7/Python/site-packages /Library/Frameworks/cairo.framework/Versions/1/Python /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python26.zip /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6 /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/plat-darwin /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/plat-mac /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/plat-mac/lib-scriptpackages /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/Extras/lib/python /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/lib-tk /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/lib-old /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/lib-dynload /Library/Python/2.6/site-packages /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/Extras/lib/python/PyObjC /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/Extras/lib/python/wx-2.8-mac-unicode I welcome any criticism and comments, if any of the above looks foolish or poorly conceived. • Are Sphinx & thinking_sphinx really stable? Not indexing Columns

    - by seb
    I'm encountering strange behaviour from thinking_sphinx/sphinx. My define_index block is about 100 lines, so quite a lot of columns i'm indexing. For full-text searching I only need about 10 attributes, for sorting and filtering I have another approximately 50 columns, mostly floats and integers. By filtering I mean using the "with" or "without" options. Searching does not really work consistently. All of a sudden, one attribute fails to filter. Or if I add a new one, it does not work. Only after a lot of tinkering it suddenly starts working. I cannot really reproduce it. Steps I that sometimes lead me to success where: rm -rf db/sphinx change the attribute definition e.g. has some_attribute = has some_attribute, :sortable = true or = has some_attribute, :sortable = true, :as = "some_attribute" restarting the server assigning a new :as name = has some_attribute, :as = "some_attribute_new" (yes, I did rake ts:rebuild or rake ts:in after every step) Does anybody else encounter similar problems?

  • Installing Sphinx on App Engine - possible?

    - by Pekka
    Following up on my last year's question on documentation, I now want to get started and try out Python-based Sphinx for putting together the developer documentation for a PHP CMS I've been working on. Instead of setting up Python locally on my workstation, I would like to run it on a publicly accessible web server from the start. All the web hosting packages I have access to run on the LAMP stack, and I'm reluctant to buy Python-based hosting. I am very interested in the Google App Engine, the free quotas they provide will do for me a hundred times over, and even if not, their pricing looks very reasonable. Now I have zero knowledge of Python - getting Sphinx to work would be my first contact with it - and very little time. As far as I understand, the platform and python libraries the App Engine provides are very compatible to a standard Python library but not identical. So my question is: Can Sphinx run on App Engine at all? Is installing Sphinx on the App Engine as straightforward as if I would install it on top of a normal Python installation? Or will the App Engine's environment require tweaking of the source code that I can't perform in reasonable time with my current level of Python? Should I be installing Sphinx on a local server and a "normal" Python stack instead first? Does anybody know any helpful How-to's, tutorials or other resources for this?

  • Sphinx: some good customization examples?

    - by Mark Harrison
    I've created a Sphinx document using sphinx-quickstart. Are there any good examples/tutorials about customizing the look? Specifically to modify the header and add a logo. Are there some projects with downloadable Sphinx docs? I would like to see how they've customized their look. update: Adding a logo is supported in the default setup, just not particularly well documented. Look in conf.py for the *_logo settings.`

  • Thinking Sphinx and acts_as_taggable_on plugin

    - by Brian Roisentul
    Hi, I installed Sphinx and Thinking Sphinx for ruby on rails 2.3.2. When I search without conditions search works ok. Now, what I'd like to do is filter by tags, so, as I'm using the acts_as_taggable_on plugin, my Announcement model looks like this: class Announcement < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_taggable_on :tags,:category define_index do indexes title, :as => :title, :sortable => true indexes description, :as => :description, :sortable => true indexes tags.name, :as => :tags indexes category.name, :as => :category has category(:id), :as => :category_ids has tags(:id), :as => :tag_ids end For some reason, when I run the following command, it will bring just one announcement, that has nothing to do with what I expect. I've got many announcements, so I expected a lot of results instead. Announcement.search params[:announcement][:search].to_s, :with => {:tag_ids => 1}, :page => params[:page], :per_page => 10 I guess something is wrong, and it's not searching correctly. Can anyone give my a clue of what's going on? Thanks, Brian
