• Remastersys problem with Ubuntu 12.04

  I successfully installed remastersys latest version for precise in Ubuntu 12.04 and created iso by executing backupmode. When installation in final stages I got the following error, "The username you entered is invalid. Note that usernames must start with a lowercase letter, which can be followed by any combination of numbers and more lower case letters." After it quit the installation.   I need to install 10 PC which has identical setup and hardware. So i was trying remastersys but its failing. How can i resolve this or use something else to achieve this? • remastersys created Live DVD hangs in "Choose a picture"

  I used remastersys to create a Live DVD. Then, I used the Live DVD for the installation on another computer. The installation hung at the "Choose a picture" session. Both the "Back" and "Continue" buttons were disabled. It seemed like the installation was hung. I had to power-cycle the computer and reinstall from the Live DVD again. After the power-cycle, the installation from the Live DVD went successfully. Any idea why the installation hung at the "Choose a picture" session, and how to fix it without power-cycle the computer? Thanks a lot!

• Live boot from hard disk problem

  I've installed Ubuntu Desktop 13.04 32bit. Next I configured /etc/grub.d/40_custom to boot live system from ubuntu.iso (also Desktop 13.04 32 bit) I used configuration: menuentry "Ubuntu 13.04 Desktop" { loopback loop /boot/ubuntu.iso linux (loop)/casper/vmlinuz.efi boot=casper iso-scan/filename=/boot/ubuntu.iso noeject noprompt splash -- initrd (loop)/casper/initrd.lz } and it works OK. Later I made some changes on my installed ubuntu. I made some configuration, installed additional packages and so on. After that I made backup using remastersys tool. Remastersys gave me new ISO file. So I wanted to use it. And here was first problem. Remastersys creates only initrd.gz file. So I changed the grub configuration form: initrd (loop)/casper/initrd.lz to: initrd (loop)/casper/initrd.gz But after that, when I reboot my system I get error: /init: line 3: can't open /dev/sr0: No medium found Any ideas how to fix it?   I have been creating a custom live CD of Ubuntu 11.10 using remastersys, everything goes well except that the live session asks for a login. the login is automatically set as "custom" and the password is blank. this is fine, but I would rather it went direct to the desktop in a live session as you would expect from other distro live cds. I have asked on the remastersys forums, the question has gotten a lot of views, but no answer as of yet, I am wondering has anyone here remastered a distro and come across the login problem, and if so, how did you fix it?

  I am creating the custom operating system using the ubuntu 12.04. When ubuntu login from the light dm -- it shows ubuntu desktop . i need to change to the my os name. I need to replace the ambaince dark icon to fs icon by default for all the login and live cd. How to permanentely change the os name It should not change even the customer update the operating system too. I am using the remastersys. I am looking to develop the new distro. like mint ,, If i had an breif explanation of the creation of the repository and maintaining the updates . it will be more helpfull. Kindly provind the link for creating the full fledged os based on the ubuntu .. like mint, Snowlinux, etc did.. replace the grub with burg for default installation If remastersys is not good . then provide me some other tool to create . I am not having the high speed internet

• Ubuntu LiveCD/USB image that boots directly to low graphics desktop

  I use Ubuntu as a diagnostic tool sometimes, and it would be great to get a modification that lets you boot directly to the LiveCD desktop, preferably with the special effects dialed down. Is there such a tool? Unetbootin doesn't seem to let you do this, and Remastersys could probably do this, but I'd have to dig into the code quite a bit and figure out what to remove, which I can do, but I figured someone might have already done this and would save me the trouble.

Relinux - failed. Ubuntu Customization Kit - failed. LiveCDCustomizationFromScratch (help.ubuntu.com) - failed. Kindly guide me how to do this, based on the above failed attempts. • Is it possible to to create a live linux iso containing a win xp virtual machine?

  I would like to have a Linux live system that contains a Windows xp virtual machine. This would be run from a bootable USB flash drive. My attempts so far have been unsuccessful. I created a Lubuntu 12.04 virtual machine with VMware. I updated and configured it to my needs, and installed Virtualbox. I then created a Windows xp vm with Virtualbox in the Lubuntu vm. I tested everything and everything worked, including USB devices. I installed Remastersys in the Lubuntu vm, copied the xp vm folder to the /etc/skel folder then created the custom iso with remastersys. I burned the iso and tested it on a laptop. It worked flawlessly. All programs and wireless networking worked. My problem was the xp vm. Virtualbox started fine but would not run the vm. I have the following error: Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005) Component: VirtualBox Interface: IVirtualBox {c28be65f-1a8f-43b4-81f1-eb60cb516e66}. I ran remastersys again changing the permissions on the skel folder to R W for everyone. I also logged into Lubuntu as root and ran remastersys again. Each iso I created worked fine but would not start the xp vm inside. The last attempt virtualbox gave me an access error stating it can not access the virtual disk. Is what I want to do possible? In theory I don't see why it would not work. Is it a permissions issue? Should I create the iso then add the xp vm after by editing the iso by hand? Using a vm and not real hardware as a build machine a problem? Any ideas? keep any responses in laymens terms. I am still a Linux novice.

  I created a custom Ubuntu 11.10 amd64 desktop based distro using remastersys, but whenever I try to boot using the iso file in vmware, it shows this error : no ui or default configuration found I've tried changing the name of isolinux to syslinux but that didnt help me either! I also tried using unetbootin but it also doesnt boot, and tried every possible but to no avail. There is a similar question but it is about 10.10 and 32 bit, but that didnt solve my query and also as this is a custom distro, the solution could be different. I've also tried creating images using remastersys again and again but that wont help either. Please help me its very urgent!

  I have seen https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveUsbPendrivePersistent but it's a mess. What methods support persistent drivers as well as files and settings and don't screw up lifespan of the flash drive? I'd like to see your personal recommendations on say, Portable Linux, USB Creator, Remastersys + Unetbootin, etc Backstory: I have a Inspiron 1525 that's hard drive has been slowly dying. I want to switch to a live USB/CD/DVD system until I can get it repaired but my laptops internal wifi device requires a network connection by another means for Xubuntu to let it work, and then I have to enter my Wifi key again, and THEN I have to reinstall Skype etc... I'd be damned every time I have to shut the laptop down. I'm ok with making a shell script for installing apps and copying settings as required but a good persistent install should make this old hat and slow and it doesn't take care of drivers. The last time I tried making an ISO with Remastersys it didn't seem to copy all the required settings.

• How to disable framebuffer in initramfs in 14.04 server?

  Recently I'm working on ubuntu 14.04 server. While using plymouth, I have late splash and tried to fix it, I googled and got lots of suggestions on doing this: vi /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash and add: FRAMEBUFFER=y and update-initramfs -u After doing this, I got no splash at all.So I deleted the FRAMEBUFFER=y and re-update initramfs, splash came back. But after that I installed something, maybe it's remastersys or n86v or their dependencies, or something else, I got splash gone again and according to the boot.log, I think it's due to framebuffer enabled in initramfs again. I tried FRAMBUFFER=n in /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash but failed. Now I got no splash and still can't get it back. Does anyone know how to disable framebuffer in initramfs? Thanks a lot!

  I am on the way to create a Live CD from scratch. I used Virtual Box for this purpose. I installed Ubuntu base from ubuntumini.iso and installed gnome-shell. And installed Remastersys and created a backup.iso. Burned in a CD and boot from a PC. It end in CLI. Not lead to GUI. I tried the same ISO in VirtualBox. But it work properly there. I think I missed some packages which help to start GUI. Can you help me to identify the packages missed to include in the CD?
