  • Is there a way to disable specific Spybot Immunization rules?

    I've been having problems using a desktop sharing application, which I've traced to the Immunization protections applied via Spybot S&D. Specifically, the problem has been narrowed down to the rules in the \SOFTWARE (Plugins) categories under the Internet Explorer groups. Once I disable these Immunization categories, everything in the application works fine. Each of these categories appears to include ~900 protections on the system. I suspect that the root cause of my problems could be narrowed down to just one, or perhaps a handful, of the settings that get applied in these categories. However, I can't find any options in Spybot S&D which would allow me to drill down to the individual protection rules and choose which to enable or disable. Is there something I'm missing, or is this not a feature available via the GUI? If it's not strictly supported in the application, is there a way to work around it by manually editing some of its files or registry settings?   • How to asynchronously read to std::string using Boost::asio?

    Hello. I'm learning Boost::asio and all that async stuff. How can I asynchronously read to variable user_ of type std::string? Boost::asio::buffer(user_) works only with async_write(), but not with async_read(). It works with vector, so what is the reason for it not to work with string? Is there another way to do that besides declaring char user_[max_len] and using Boost::asio::buffer(user_, max_len)? Also, what's the point of inheriting from boost::enable_shared_from_this<Connection> and using shared_from_this() instead of this in async_read() and async_write()? I've seen that a lot in the examples.   • Several ifstream vs. ifstream + constant seeking

So I need to sequentially read from different portions of the file during the k-way merge phase. What's the best way to do that: several ifstreams or one ifstream and seeking? Also, is there a library for easy async IO?

  • "CB Monitor Windows" proccess blocks XP shutdown

    I've got a home server. Simple, low-power-consumption Intel Atom based PC built by me. It runs XP since Win7 was an overkill for this poor thing. Everything was OK, always used Avast! antivirus + Spybot. However, it stopped shutting down after a while. Few days ago I noticed a "CB Monitor Windows" proccess is blocking this (didn't quit from rdp after sending the shutdown command). What is this proccess? How can I disable/remove it? Tried Malwarebytes, found ONE malware, removed it, did a reboot, no change. Avast is up-to-date, Spybot is the same. What could I do?

  • Did MS break IE with update on 2010-01-12?

    I have 4 computers at 2 completely seperate clients that have all experienced the same problem on the same day. Internet Explorer 7 is returning "Page not Found" for all sites. The real kicker is that all other Internet works, including Firefox. At least one of the machines is Vista. Not sure on the other 3. At least 2 of the machines have no proxy server set so it isn't that. Did Microsoft push an automatic update that broke IE7 on Tuesday 2010-01-12? Has anyone else experienced this problem in the last week? This can't be a coincidence. Apart from being located in the same town and being supported by my company (we didn't change anything) these clients have nothing in common except they use Windows and they browse with IE. These machines probably share other traits, like having Spybot installed, however removing Spybot changed nothing. Also, of course i got them to reboot. Still broken.

    Another Friday has arrived and it’s time to screw off on company time. Today we take a look at a unique game Add-on for Firefox called Destroy the Web. Destroy the Web Once you install the Add-on and restart Firefox, you’ll see the Destroy the Web icon on the toolbar. Click on it to destroy whatever webpage you’re on.   The game starts up and gives you a 3 second countdown… Now move the target over different elements of the page to destroy them. You have 30 seconds to destroy the site contents. If you are angry at a particular company or the one you work for, this can give you some fun stress relief by destroying it’s website. After you’ve destroyed as much of the page as possible, you’re given a score. You get different amounts of points for destroying certain elements on the page. Basically destroy as much as possible to get the most points. You can submit your score and check out some of the scoreboard leaders as well.  There are some cool sound effects and arcade sounding background music, so make sure to turn the volume down while playing. Or you can go into the Add-on options and disable it. If you want a unique way to let off some steam before the weekend starts, this is a fun way of doing it.   • Certain websites redirect to 127.0.0.1. How do I fix this?

    Facebook and Youtube in particular. Tried nslookup the address shows as 127.0.0.1. Checked the HOSTS file, it's fine. Ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (didn't find any problems) and SpyBot Search and Destroy (found 1 problem). (Not sure if the Spybot made this improvement) now pinging youtube shows the correct address (74.125.71.91) but the browser still says: Connection to 127.0.0.1 Failed The system returned: (111) Connection refused Tried ipconfig /flushdns but there are no changes.   • Windows XP Freezes

    Hello. I'm running a machine with Windows XP Professional 64-bit. Every so often, it will freeze for no apparent reason. That is, everything stops responding, except the mouse. I can move the mouse around, but I can't click on anything. Keyboard input is also not accepted/received when this problem occurs. The three-finger salute fails to bring up the Task Manager. Even pressing the power button on my computer fails to shut it down. The only way out of this that I have found is to hard-reboot the machine (i.e. pull power or hold power button in for 10 seconds). This problem was occurring on the system when it had all its updates and after a fresh install when not everthing was quite yet updated. I've run the Scandisk utility and the latest version Memtest86 that supports 64-bit architecture; neither found any errors. The last time this happened was on a fresh install of Windows. Only Nero Essentials, Avast antivirus (disabled), Firefox, and Spybot were installed. I was not running Nero, Firefox, or Spybot at the time, and Avast was disabled, so I'm pretty certain this is a Windows issue. Is anybody familiar with this problem or have any pointers? Thanks.

  • How to remove google ads virus in Internet Explorer?

    I picked up some adware that adds irrelevant advertisements to Google and Wikipedia. I have scanned with MalwareBytes, Windows Defender (Which is the same as MSE in Windows 8), Ad Aware, Spybot, and McAfee, which found no results. This only occurs in Internet Explorer 10, not in Firefox or Iron. I would like to keep IE10, I think it is a major improvement from previous versions. Any ideas on how to remove the adware?

  • Mouse is rotated by 90 degrees

  • windows is unresponsive but works well in safe mode

    I was installing a few utility apps and things when my laptop running windows 7 stopped responding. I tried to reboot and still very unresponsive... the mouse moves but i am unable to click on icons or open the start menu. eventually things catch up after over a minute. when i start in safe mode with networking support i am able to operate the laptop at lightening speed and web browsing is a dream. I ran msconfig and shut off all non windows services and still get the same thing. after no results i then got and ran spybot, malwarebytes, and other such tools but got no results. they all show nothing wrong. now what?

    a few hours ago, I found a link to Kickass Torrent, which is blocked in my country, Italy and went for it. The link worked just fine but wasn't able to save anything. I renounced and continued normal navigation. I then noticed that everytime I try to access some pages, for instance google.com (but not Google.it) I receive a warning from Chrome that I'm being redirected through piratenpartji.nl Since I found a similar topic here on 'superuser' I tried what was proposed in the solution, namely shutting down adblock and trying again or trying Incognito mode. Nevertheless, no result. I performed a search with both Avira and Spybot SD but except for a couple cookies from other origin nothing came up. What do you suggest I do?   • Recently "exposed" to Clicksor

I heard the loud sounds and whatnot from one of the ads but nothing was harmed and other than having the life scared out of me nothing was immediately affected. Literally nothing has changed.   • Can't access some websites with any browser

    I'm running Windows 7 64-bit on a new Samsung laptop and accessing the internet okay via ethernet cable to my university's ISP. Some sites work fine (e.g. google.com) but I can't access others at all (microsoft.com, topshop.com). I can't connect to those sites in safe mode with networking. And ping and tracert both fail. There's no proxy. Other users can connect successfully to these sites using my cable and socket. I've tried all the following with no success: using various browsers (IE9, FF, Chrome) creating a new user updating drivers clearing the DNS cache using OpenDNS and Google's DNS turning off Avast tweaking the MTU running MS malicious software removal tool running Spybot S&D reviewing the hosts file disabling the IPv6 options repairing / resetting winsock settings disabling advanced javascript options I have run out of ideas... can anyone see anything I've missed??!

  • How to remove google ads virus from IE?

    I have picked up adware in that shows extra irrelevant google ads. This only happens in Internet Explorer 10, not Firefox or Iron. I have tried some removals for similar viruses with no luck. I have scanned with MalwareBytes, Windows Defender(I am using Windows 8 RTM, so this is the same as MSE), Spybot, Ad Aware, McAfee, Norton, and AVG, with no luck. Here's a screenshot: As you can see, ads are added to the tan area as well as several extra white results, which are especially irrelevant. I like IE10 and would like to keep using it, but these ads are annoying. I'm also worried there may be spyware as well.
