• Ubuntu hardy to intrepid upgrade hung on starting bluetooth

  I have no bluetooth. Preliminary googling indicates that is probably an issue with some usb devices. I had an external drive, a mouse and a network dongle attached. It is just stalled during the Installing the Upgrades phase - the last commands were "Creating device nodes" Cancel will leave the system in a broken state. What next?

• Clonezilla disk to disk clone on a dual boot ubuntu karmic & XP setup - cannot open '/boot/grub/devi

  I just tried to clone a failing existing boot drive for a dual boot system with Ubuntu karmic and Windows XP installed using Clonezilla. The cloning worked fine right up until the end when I got the following error: Running: grub-install --no floppy --root-directory=/tmp/hd_img.twABYW /dev/sdb grub-probe: error: Cannot open '/boot/grub/device.map' /usr/sbin/grub-install:line 374: [: =: unary operator expected What's my next step? I imagine I need to somehow rebuild my boot record for Windows and Ubuntu and edit grub.

  I'd like to use the gmate plugin for gedit but Karmic seems to have a problem with python-webkitgtk. I am not certain but it looks like it is now renamed to python-webkit. How can I get a plugin dependent on python-webkitgtk to work?

• Ubuntu dual boot and grub error 18

  I've attempted to install 9.04 on an older toshiba laptop with a new 300GB drive and am getting the dreaded Grub error 18 that indicates that grub is looking beyond the bios readable area of the HD and failing. I just let ubuntu roll with its default selections when installing and ended up with this: Drive layout /dev/sda1 -ntfs 128GB -boot /dev/sda2 -extended 170GB -lba /dev/sda5 -ntfs 167.59GB /dev/sda6 -ext3 2.33GB /dev/sda7 -linux-swap 172MB I'd like make the system dual bootable without having to reinstall windows (real pain since I would have to go through an obstructionist IT dept). I know I can make windows bootable with a rescue disk and fixmbr but is there something I can do to make it dual bootable using the ubuntu livecd? Alternately, what should I have done at the partition stage of ubuntu installation to avoid this?

  I'm looking to implement a state machine to manage a user moving through a series of steps over an extended period of time (weeks) with emails and then they interact with the app. I've looked at a couple of AASM plugins and forks (it seems like this plugin space has become a bit chaotic) and am curious what people would recommend. I saw the automatic AASM by hashrocket, that transitions states using cron, and from the title it looks like it might fit the bill but there doesn't appear to be any documentation anywhere and it looks more like a skeleton app than a plugin.

  How good is the new Ruby Installer for Windows? I asked before about why Ruby was so slow on windows and now I've seen some impressive benchmarks showing marked speed improvements with the minGW compilation used in the new installers and am curious how it has worked for people who have tried it? How many gems are broken for this version? Any big ones you have been bit by not on this list?

• in Rails3 beta 4 where is the code that gets executed when you type 'rails server'?

  I'm tracing my way through the source code and can't seem to find where the command "rails server" would be for a generated app. Where is it? Also is there some way I can track down these things in the future?
