• How do I pre-empt IIS StaticFileHandler with my own HttpHandler

  Hi there, I'm building a website referencing an assembly that contains several js scripts as embedded resources, some controls which use those scripts and a 'HttpResourcesHandler' that knows how to retrieve those embedded scripts when asked for them. In web.config I have an entry in the section that reads <add verb="*" path="/embedded/controlscripts/*" validate="false" type="CWeb.Controls.Web.HttpResourcesHandler, CWeb.Controls.EditBox" /> This control adn the website work absolutely fine when debugging with the Visual Studio web development server, but if I then switch the website to run under IIS (v7 - I'm running Vista and there appears to be no problem with debugging the site using IIS 5 or 6), the control can no longer access the scripts. I get a HTTP 404.0 error screen indicating the StaticFileHandler cannot find the file. I know that - it's embedded. So the StaticFileHandler appears to be grabbing the request for the script before my own and returning a 404. How do I tell IIS to use my own resource handler for the embedded/controlscripts directory rather than the staticfilehandler? I'm running the website in classic mode by the way.

• Problem using custom HttpHandler to process requests for both .aspx and non-extension pages in IIS7

  I am trying to process both ".aspx" and non-extension page requests (i.e. both contact.aspx and /contact/) using a custom HttpHandler in IIS7. My handler works just fine in either one case or the other, but as soon as I try to process both cases, it only works for one. Please see Handlers snippet from my web.config below: If i keep only mapping to "*.aspx" then all .aspx requests are processed correctly, but obviously extensionless requests won't work: <add name="AllPages.ASPX" path="*.aspx" verb="*" type="Test.PageHandlerFactory, Test" preCondition="" /> If i change the mapping to "*" then all extensionless requests are processed correctly, but ".aspx" requests that should still be handled by this handler stop working. Note that i added the StaticFiles entry in order to process files that are on disk like images, css, js, etc. <add name="WebResource" path="WebResource.axd" verb="GET" type="System.Web.Handlers.AssemblyResourceLoader" /> <add name="StaticFiles" verb="GET,HEAD" path="*.*" type="System.Web.StaticFileHandler" resourceType="File" /> <add name="AllPages" path="*" verb="*" type="Test.PageHandlerFactory, Test" preCondition="" /> The crazy thing is that when i load an ".aspx" request (with the 2nd configuration shown) IIS7 gives a 404 not found error. The error also says that the request is processed by the StaticFiles handler. But I made sure to add resourceType="File" to the StaticFileHandler in order to avoid this. According to MS this means the request is only for "physical files on disk". Am i misreading/interpreting the "on disk" part? My .aspx file isn't on disk, that's why i want to use the handler in the first place.

• Tridion New UI Preview Site is not reflecting with the changes unless pulished

  I have new UI setup and noticing that when ever I update a page it is not refreshing with the updated changes. I do not see either the page_{sessionId/GUID}.aspx created either. Checked the session preview DB and I see the changes in PAGE_CONTENT table with new rendered content, so seems like session preview is working fine but the Preview site is not able to get the changes and refresh the UI. I have checked all the preview handlers and mappings for .aspx and made sure they are correct in web.config. Any thoughts on why the preview site not showing up the changes? • PDF permissions management with ASP.NET - Timeout Issue

  I have a website that has several PDF files. I need to have quite a few of them locked down with the standard ASP.NET authentication (in a folder with web.config that denies anonymous users). I set PDF files to get handled by the ASP.NET worker process and added: <add type="System.Web.StaticFileHandler" path="*.pdf" verb="*" /> to my web.config, but for some reason they hang when downloading. I've seen this issue before on an old server, and for the live of me I can't remember what I did to solve it. Does anyone have any idea? Thanks.

• Configure IIS7 to server static content through ASP.NET Runtime

  I searched high an low and still cannot find a definite answer. How do I configure IIS 7.0 or a Web Application in IIS so that ASP.NET Runtime will handle all requests -- including ones to static files like *.js, *.gif, etc? What I'm trying to do is as follows. We have kind of SaaSy site, which we can "skin" for every customer. "Skinnig" means developing a custom master page and using a bunch of *.css and other images. Quite naturally, I'm using VirtualPathProvider, which operates like this: public override System.Web.Hosting.VirtualFile GetFile(string virtualPath) { if(PhysicalFileExists(virtualPath)) { var virtualFile = base.GetFile(virtualPath); return virtualFile; } if(VirtualFileExists(virtualPath)) { var brandedVirtualPath = GetBrandedVirtualPath(virtualPath); var absolutePath = HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath(brandedVirtualPath); Trace.WriteLine(string.Format("Serving '{0}' from '{1}'", brandedVirtualPath, absolutePath), "BrandingAwareVirtualPathProvider"); var virtualFile = new VirtualFile(brandedVirtualPath, absolutePath); return virtualFile; } return null; } The basic idea is as follows: we have a branding folder inside our webapp, which in turn contains folders for each "brand", with "brand" being equal to host name. That is, requests to http://foo.example.com/ should use static files from branding/foo_example_com, whereas http://bar.example.com/ should use content from branding/bar_example_com. Now what I want IIS to do is to forward all requests to static files to StaticFileHandler, which would then use this whole "infrastructure" and serve correct files. However, try as I might, I cannot configure IIS to do this.
