• Issues with duplicating TFS 2005 to a virtual server

  We have a problem with our current TFS installation. For some reason, which I won't get into, the Sharepoint DBs (sts_content, sts_config) were upgraded to WSS 3 (MOSS). So now, none of our team-project sites work, we have no access to our documents and can't create new team projects. We can still work with the version control, though. We wanted to "play" with the server and try to fix it, without affecting the users. So we used p2v for VmWare, to duplicate the server to a virtual one. We now continued and changed all of the relevant configuration to point to the new server, as explained in the MSDN article. The step of rebuilding the warehouse (with setupwarehouse) failed. Also, we can't access the VersionControl web service (ourserver:8080/VersionControl/v1.0/repository.asmx). We are seeing errors in the EventLog: TF53002: Unable to obtain registration data for application Build. TF53005: Unable to retrieve the Team Foundation Server installed UI culture. TF53002: Unable to obtain registration data for application VersionControl. TF30040: The database is not correctly configured. Contact your Team Foundation Server administrator. The solutions suggested in this blog post did not assist. So now we're kind of stuck. Any assistance will be appreciated.

• Repairing a TFS 2005 install or starting anew.

  Following : Installing Team Foundation Server on a shared database instance We did use a shared database instance setup for TFS 2005, and that was not a good idea, because of the Reporting Service dependency. The reporting instance on the server gives error code 404. What works now Basic source code control. We're able to check in and out source code. What doesn't work : Everything else, including : Opening and creating new team projects. Build automation. Internal bug tracking. Goal setup Having a fully working TFS install, and keeping the history. 1) A full install of TFS 2005 on the same server, but within its own database and reporting instance. 2) Using another server might be an option, but it's really not prefered Downtime should be minimum, my colleagues needs to be able to work on the source Readings I've read the MSDN page about moving/restoring TFS 2005, but I'm still unsure about what to do. • How does VS 2005 provide history across all TFS Team Projects when tf.exe cannot?

  In Visual Studio 2005, in the TFS Source Control Explorer, these is a top-level node for the TFS Server itself, with a child node for each Team Project. Right-clicking either the server node or the node for a Team Project gives a context menu on which there is a View History item. Selecting this gives you a History window showing the last 200 or so changesets, either for the specific Team Project chosen, or across all Team Projects. It is this history across all Team Projects that I am wondering about. The command-line tf.exe history command provides (as I understand it) basically the same functionality as is provided by the VS TFS Source Control plug-in. But I cannot work out how to get tf.exe history to provide this across-all-Team-Projects history. At a command line, supposing I have C:\ mapped as the root of my workspace, and Foo, Bar, and Baz as Team Projects, I can do C:\> tf history Foo /recursive /stopafter:200 to get the last 200 changesets that affected Team Project Foo; or from within a Team Project folder C:\Bar> tf history *.* /recursive /stopafter:200 which does the same thing for Team Project Bar - note that the wildcard *.* is allowed here. However, none of these work (each gives the error message shown): C:\> tf history /recursive /stopafter:200 The history command takes exactly one item C:\> tf history *.* /recursive /stopafter:200 Unable to determine the source control server C:\> tf history *.* /server:servername /recursive /stopafter:200 Unable to determine the workspace I don't see an option in the docs for tf for specifying a workspace; it seems to only want to determine it from the current folder. So what is VS 2005 doing? Is it internally doing a history on each Team Project in turn and then sticking the results together?? note also that I have tried with Power Tools; tfpt history from the command line gives exactly the same error messages seen here

  Hi All, According to the following section of BOL: How to: Use Source Control with SQL Server Management Studio If you have a source control client installed you should be able to choose it in the plug-in selection. I have both source control clients for Visual Studio 2005 and 2008 (tfs2005) installed and there's no plug-in to choose in the list for me.

• Hot fix published for TFS2010 upgrade issues

  Microsoft has released a hot fix for the issues that are identified after the migration of TFS2005/TFS2008 servers to TFS2010. The issues are related to Merging and Labels: ·         Labels that were created before the upgrade are entirely empty.  Labels could be also have incorrect contents. ·         The merge wizard in Visual Studio does not display all valid merge targets for a given source path/branch. ·         During merging, merge candidates are shown for changes that were already merged prior to the upgrade. If you have not yet upgraded to TFS 2010, the hotfix is now available and is highly recommended to be applied before configuring your team project collections. Because this hotfix applies to the upgrade of version control content, it must be applied after TFS 2010 setup is complete, but before configuration is started.  At the end of the setup experience, the Success screen is shown indicating the completion of the installation.  Normally, users will continue on to the configuration part, but in this case, the user need to cancel the configuration part by un-checking the “Launch Team Foundation Server Configuration Tool” box, which will enable the Cancel button. After exiting setup, the hotfix executable can be run to update the upgrade steps. • Connecting TFS2008 server to Sharepoint (WSS3)

  I have recently upgraded from TFS2005 to 2008, and in doing so, lost the connection to Sharepoint so now I cannot access my project portal from VSS or TFS Web. I have a working WSS 3.0 installation on the same server as TFS, and TFS is working fine other than the Sharepoint disconnect. I have even been able to go into Sharepoint and create a site for my project. The only thing left is to find the configuration item in TFS for my project that says, "Project portal is here...". Does anyone know where I might find this setting?

• Problem building with MSBuild on Team Build

  Hi, I have recently upgraded from TFS2005 to TFS2010 (and sub-sequently the team build server). I used to be able to get a team build on one of my solutions to work pretty easily, (see structure below) Solution |_Web Site | |_Bin | |_Other Files |_Project 1 |_Project 2 |_Project (n) Now, i can no longer get a build working correctly as it doesnt appear to build all my projects any longer (i've had to create a new build definition). Either that, or its not building the projects in such an order that when it hits project X, that a project it depends on (Project A), has not yet been built, and as such fails. I'm just basically trying to build a web site (not web application project), with some Dependant / linked projects. Why must it be so hard! Everything builds fine in the IDE. If i even open the solution copied to the build server under the 'Sources' directory, i am able to build it fine in the IDE on that server. No such luck with MSBuild though. Thoughts?
