    I have forwarded the port 5900 for TightVNC. I have TightVNC 2.0 Beta4 installed on my Windows Vista machine. I then try to connect from an Arch Linux box: [earlz@earlzarch ~]$ vncviewer somehost::5900 Connected to RFB server, using protocol version 3.8 Performing standard VNC authentication Password: Authentication successful vncviewer: VNC server closed connection [earlz@earlzarch ~]$ vncviewer --help TightVNC Viewer version 1.3.10 What is wrong here? I thought that TightVNC 2.0 fixed the Vista bug with VNC servers? Is there any additional configuration I needed?

  • Win7 Aero disabled due to mirror drivers following TightVNC use, cannot re-enable

    I recently installed TightVNC, and used it to access my desktop from my phone. When I did so, my desktop reported that Aero had been disabled due to an application being run that didn't support it. I now cannot re-enable Aero, despite having closed the TightVNC server (and indeed having rebooted a number of times since). Windows 7 troubleshooting reports the following: Close programs using mirror drivers To allow Aero effects to be displayed, close any programs that use mirror drivers (a type of display driver), such as Windows Remote Assistance and Windows Live Mesh. The troubleshooting system appears to attempt to automatically fix that, but fails. I can see nothing in the task manager that obviously uses mirror drivers; in particular, I can see nothing that looks like TightVNC in there. Starting and exiting TightVNC makes no difference. Google has turned up nothing that looks useful so far, either, although my Google-fu isn't great and I may just be searching for the wrong things. There's another question that reports the same problem, caused by LogMeIn rather than TightVNC, but the solution listed there doesn't work—TightVNC doesn't install LogMeIn mirror drivers, for obvious reasons.

  • TightVNC grey screen?

    I'm trying to help my mom remotely with some PC problems. She's not too computer savvy, so to keep the firewall stuff on my side of things, I tried to use a reverse VNC connection: On my machine, I set up TightVNC client in listening mode. I also opened TCP port 5500 on my router and firewall, and checked it using http://canyouseeme.org/. On her machine, I (instructed her to) set up TightVNC server, and connect to my machine's IP ('Add New Client...'). Both machines run Windows XP & TightVNC 1.3.10. The problem: When she tries to connect, a TightVNC window with grey background pops up on my machine, but I never get to see the remote desktop. It just remains grey. However, it seems that I control the mouse on the remote side (she says it's moving). I tried to reverse-connect from another machine on my LAN and it works without a problem. Any idea what the problem could be?

    Hey all, i seem to be having a problem with getting ports to forward on my Windows Server 2008 R2 PC. I already set all my port forwarding for 5900/5800 on my router for my PC's IP address (192.168.1.22) but when i try to use the TightVNC PFPortChecker on port 5900 it tells me its not opened! I can not even connect to my DYNDNS server name (xxxxxxx.dyndns.org). As a side note, i am running Windows XP SP3 within a VirtaulBox inside Windows Server 2008 R2 but running the PFPortChecker in Windows 2008 R2 brings the same results as it does in the VM. I also added them to the Windows Firewall Advanced Security form to add those inbound ports for full access. What could i possibly be missing? Thanks for your time! David

  • tunneling x11vnc through ssh on a non standard port to ubuntu computer tightvnc

    I have been stuck with setting up my virtual desktop on my ubuntu laptop. I am running ubuntu to ubuntu with x11vnc I start the process on my laptop as follows: " ssh -L5904:localhost:5900 -p Port remoteuser@remoteip." That command works, then I start x11vnc server, "x11vnc -noncache -once -shared -rfbauth ~/.vnc/passwd." This command works and starts connection. Then I open another window on my laptop and type, export VNC_VIA_CMD='/usr/bin/ssh -2 -c aes128-cbc -x -p Port -l User -f -: %L:%H:%R %G sleep 20' (not sure if works). then I type, vncviewer -endcodings Tight -depth 8 -quality 1 -via IPofremotemachine -u remoteuser localhost:01. The first time it work but from now on it just gives me the vncviewer -help screen everytime. I type in the password for my remote machine and then shows -help screen for vncviewer.     When I run a tightvnc client to establish a VNC session I sometimes receive an error message that suggests there are repeated failed VNC login attempts or a brute force attack. The message dialog title is "unsupported security type" and the text content is "too many authentication failures, try another connection? yes/no". This problem goes away if I reboot the Ubuntu server and reload the VNC server program and try again. From that point, it will work for multiple VNC sessions. My VNC sessions are typically about 20 minutes. At some time in the future, the problem may recur so it seems correlated to the time the server has been up or the time tightvnc has been loaded. Typically it takes only a day or so before the problem comes back. I am using tightvnc 1.3 on an server running Ubuntu 12.04. The version of vncserver is rather dated because that seems to be all that is available from tightvnc for linux servers. On the client side I use the newest Java-based VNC client (version 2.5) for both Windows access and Ubuntu access. All my VNC sessions are via SSH. I am the only user and I will typically use only the same client computer. How can I stop this problem from recurring? Edit I found the log file. This is a small excerpt of what I am seeing. Essentially, various IPs, not my own, are attempting to connect.     Hi, I am currently using TightVNC to connect to multiple remote hosts in LAN. I start 16 VNC viewers, set Scaling by: Auto (in connection options display), and then select all viewer windows and use Tile Horizontally, which covers my entire screen with VNC viewers. It all works sort of nice, except that desktop interaction is really slow when there are more then 4 VNC viewers. My question is, does VNC client (not just TightVNC, but any compatible client) support some kind of smart scaling option, so that client tells server something along the lines of: "Okay, I'm displaying your entire screen in a window size 300x225 px, so can you please start sending encoded images on that resolution?", at which point interactiveness of open connections dramatically increase, and when I decide to go full screen on some connection, client and server re-negotiate and server starts sending full resolution images again? Thanks!!

  • Wicked VNC Viewer acting out on Windows desktop and CentOS 6.3 server

    What we have here is the only way to open the TightVNC viewer on this Windows XP desktop is to have a TigerVNC viewer open on the CentOS 6.3 server desktop. I know it sounds really weird and we’re looking for hints to make it go away. Any ideas? Here is the recipe: We are using Putty on the Windows desktop as SSH (Secure Shell) and a Terminal Emulator. We open and login to Putty then open a login to TightVNC viewer. After many failed attempts, much Googling, and lots of reading to no avail I decided to open the TigerVNC viewer on the CentOS 6.3 server by way of the GNOME desktop Application menu -- Internet tab. After opening and logging into the TigerVNC viewer on the CentOS 6.3 Server, Voila!! We have a remote desktop opened on the server. But what was an interesting discovery was that the TigerVNC viewer on the server had a request on the desktop that was not on the server desktop. This turned out to be a login request that once the password was entered it opened the TightVNC viewer on the Windows desktop. Weird huh? -Why is that password request showing up on the CentOS 6.3 server in the TigerVNC viewer as oppose to showing up on the Windows desktop when logging in using TightVNC viewer to the server?

    I need to connect to a VPS and I'm running Vista Home Basic. TightVNC and TeamViewer both require access to the VPS first, because they require that the server be set up with TightVNC or TeamViewer. Is there anything similar to Remote Desktop that will allow me to use the IP address and administrator password to the VPS to simply connect, rather than having to have the hosting company set up VNC or TeamViewer on the server first? Any help would be appreciated!!! Thank you!

  • Full Uninstall winvnc.exe

    This computer (Windows 7) has not been able to run Windows Aero after I installed some VNC software, UltraVNC and TightVNC. I want to get Aero back, and Microsoft Fix It tells me that it can't be turned on because of mirror drivers (this edition includes Aero, and I had it working well before), which I managed to learn can come from winvnc.exe, which is installed by both programs. I would like to uninstall winvnc.exe and the service from this computer. I messed with the command line a little (I know, I aws being careful), but I couldn't get anywhere, I'm a total beginner with the command line. Can someone please help me remove the exe file and the service, so the mirror drivers are disabled and I can use Aero again? I don't need the VNC servers (I couldn't get them to work anyway), but if keeping the clients is possible that would be nice.

    I'm trying to use xvpviewer (based on TightVNC) to VNC into my VMs running on Citirx XenServer. There are a couple of caveats required with trusting the certificate from XenServer which I've got working.     I have installed Windows Server 2012 for about 9 months ago. Earlier I could connect to my server with an external IP perfectly, but the license for the remote desktop services has ended. First, I thought it was the reason, why I couldn't use my server as RDP-server, to which users may connect. But, than in web I read, that it's possible to use windows native features, just to remove the RDP services, which are trial and the server will work as RDP-server, but with some limitations ( for e.g. such free RDP service may accept only 1 connection and other connection will be disconnected etc ). Is it true, that it's possible? If yes, please give a piece of advice, how should I repair it. Because I don't want to use TightVNC or other stuff. Thanks!

  • How to set up TightVNC Java viewer index.html on web server?

    I've got the Java TightVNC viewer applet set up with the provided index.html on my Mac OS X 10.6.3 with web sharing enabled. Using a remote computer I was able to get to the webpage but I only see a white box with an X (for error?) that represents where the viewer is supposed to be. Any ideas on how to get this to work? I've tried to set the port (in index.html) to 5900 and 5901, none worked. Are any of these the default VNC port for Mac OS X 10.6.3? Also, I've activated Screen Sharing and Remote Login in System Preferences, allowing VNC viewers to connect. I think important is also that I have to login to remote Centos through port 6050 - none else port works for me. Do I have to do something with other ports? I see that vncserver is listening on 5901, 5902 if another added - and I consider connection is established because from time to time (long time) the passwd prompt appears,... right? please help, what to do? even if prompt appeared and I put correct password I get: authentication failure. how to disable this lockout for a testing purposes?

  • How can I reverse connect with vncconnect or vncconfig with ubuntu as the server?

    On a windows machine I am running: "listening VNC viewer" From a Ubuntu machine, I need to reverse connect to the windows machine but it does not seem to be working. I was able to make it work between 2 windows machines, but I need it to work with Ubuntu as the server as well. I tried vncconnect -display $DISPLAY 192.168.1.134:5500 and nothing happens. So instead I tried vncconfig but I get the message : "No VNC extension on display :0.0" Any ideas? If this is the wrong site just send me a comment I'll close the question.

    We are using Tight VNC server in our project for screen sharing, due to some security constraints we cannot directly install Tight VNC server on clients machine. So through .net windows applicaton we are invoking Tight VNC. Now this windows application should capture the screens(packets) that VNC server passes to VNC client and transfer them to and fro to routing server, routing server will inturn transfers these packets to VNC client, which is on another network. Is there any way that VNC server packets are caputured through .Net.
