Linux user that can read-only all files?

Is it possible to create a user in Linux/Unix that can see all files on the system, but in a read-only capacity?

Feedback on Using ZFS and FreeBSD

I need to create a server that will be used solely for backing up files. The server will have 2TB of storage to begin with but I may want to add additional storage later on. As such, I am currently considering using FreeBSD + ZFS as the OS and file system. Is ZFS a reliable, trusted file system? Should I use it in this scenario? I have read that ZFS should be used with OpenSolaris over FreeBSD as OpenSolaris is usually ahead of the curve with ZFS as far as version updates and stability. However, I am not interested in using OpenSolaris for this project. An alternative option that I am considering is to stick with ext3 and create multiple volumes if need be, because I know that I will not need a single, continuous volume larger than 2TB. Best VoIP VPS Location?

Our office currently runs a few phones over a VoIP line. Through our VoIP provider, we have a virtual private server. We chose them as the VPS provider because the VPS came pre-loaded with all of the software that was necessary. However, I've discovered that I would rather manage the software myself and would prefer to work on a different platform. The primary reason that we have stayed with them is because as our VoIP provider, I presume that there is some advantage in call quality because they have "direct access to the PSTN", which I would presume is an advantage when it comes to call termination and overall call quality. My question boils down to: What is better from a call quality perspective? 1) A server located 20ms closer to us (60ms), offered by a different company. 2) The current server at the VoIP/SIP provider (80ms)

Animated GIF Not Working in FireFox after cache

I have an animated GIF that loops three times. I have noticed in Firefox and Chrome (haven't checked others) that I can view the GIF once and then if I reload the page, the cached GIF is not animated at all. Is there a solution to this? Is there something about the animated GIF that I could change to prevent this from occurring?

CSS Doozie: Replacing BG Image on SELECT dropdown

I need to be able to change the background-image property of a SELECT drop-down using JavaScript/CSS. We have been able to accomplish this in Firefox, but it doesn't appear to be supported at all in IE. From what I've read, IE won't support this. But I'm wondering if there's anything else I could try. Does anyone here have any recommendations?
