• Learning Smalltalk as a Java programmer

  I am a Java programmer willing to learn smalltalk. As of now I am working within the Pharo environment. Trying to switch from Java to Smalltalk is being a bit of a headache, honestly. I would like to learn Smalltalk with the help of a code base available but I believe that there aren't many Smalltalk example projects available on the web. So are there any particular websites that involve learning Smalltalk (Pharo) based on some simple examples? Currently I am taking the help of Pharo By Example doc but I feel it is just not sufficient for me. I am looking for more some code examples in Smalltalk.

• Unity 3D does not work on Dell system with a AMD Radeon HD 6470M

  I am running 64 bit Ubuntu on Dell with 1GB graphic card. I login with "Ubuntu" hoping to see Unity 3d but it doesn't. Unity 2D runs instead. when I type in echo "$DESKTOP_SESSION" it confirms the Unity-2D. I've checked the System info that shows like : The graphics row shows itself as empty. SO I've presumed that the graphic drivers aren't detected and hence I went to Unity- Additional Drivers and installed the fglrx driver that the UI has suggested. Even after installing so, the graphics part in System info details shows nothing and still Unity 2D runs in spite of all the effort. Please help! How can I get my Unity 3D back? • Why is a linked list implementation considered linear?

  My apologies for asking such a simple question. Instead of posting such basic question in SO, I felt that this is more apt a question here. I tried finding an answer for this but none of them are logically appealing or convincing to my understanding. Typically, computer memory is always linear. So is the term non linear used for a data structure in a logical sense? If so, to logically achieve non linearity in a linear computer memory, we use pointers. Right? In that case, if pointers are virtual implementations for achieving non linearity, Why would a data structure like linked list be considered linear if in reality the nodes are never physically adjacent?

• Ubuntu 11.10 UI changed suddenly?

  10 64 bit on a Dell laptop that has 6GB RAM and 1GB graphic card. All of a sudden there were some sudden changes in UI which I am unable to understand why. The unity panel was initially glassy and transparent, now it looks all black in its background. Likewise the alt+tab graphics was working well until it got changed suddenly and now shows icons on pure white background. I've not tried to install any themes and I've not tried to tweak anything. Why did this UI changes occur? Could it be that it is unable to detect the graphic card or something? How can I fix this and how can I get back the original desktop back? Please help..

• Which is the best non-java, dynamic, programming language to build attractive GUIs?

  I am well acquainted with java and groovy but somehow I am not intrigued by the performance or looks of swing based applications that are developed on the same. So I want to learn and know about THE best alternate dynamic programming language (coz I am looking for little bit of luxury while writing code by not willing to fiddle with pointers, memory handling, static typing difficulties etc) to develop attractive cross platform GUIs. To be precise, when I say attractive I mean support for elegant translucent windows and nicer components (not the flashy adobe stuff). Can you please suggest me a programming language that manages to fit into this?
