  • How to compile x264 for iPhone

    - by SUKIYAKI
Hi, I'm trying to compile x264 for use in an iPhone application. I can compile with using http://github.com/gabriel/ffmpeg-iphone-build File: build-x264-armv6/7. but only decoding. I want to use encoding too. when I use build-x264-armv6/7,The console show me "mp4 output: no". Does anyone know how to compile x264 which is able to encoding H.264?

  • Convert png sequence to x264 with ffmpeg

    - by Thucydides411
I am trying to convert a series of pngs into an mp4 video. I am using ffmpeg, and want to encode the video with the x264 codec. Using the command ffmpeg -y -r 30 -b 1800k -i _tmp%04d.png -vcodec libx264 out.mp4 I get the following warning message Incompatible pixel format 'bgra' for codec 'libx264', auto-selecting format 'yuv420p' My understanding is that there is an alpha channel in the pngs, which the x264 encoder cannot handle. Is there a way to get around this problem? Is there, for example, a way to get the encoder to ignore the alpha channel (my pngs don't actually have any transparent elements)? I'm aware that I could batch convert the pngs beforehand to strip the alpha channel, but the sequence of images is produced by another program, and having to preprocess the images each time I make a video would be less than optimal. Edit: After stripping the alpha channel from each frame using the command convert in.png -background white -flatten +matte out.png ffmpeg gives the warning message Incompatible pixel format 'pal8' for codec 'libx264', auto-selecting format 'yuv420p' so still no dice.

  • Trying to compile x264 and ffmpeg for iPhone - "missing required architecture arm in file"

    - by jtrim
I'm trying to compile x264 for use in an iPhone application. I see there are instructions on how to compile ffmpeg for use on the platform here: http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/ffmpeg-devel/2009-October/076618.html , but I can't seem to find anything this complete for compiling x264 on the iPhone. I've found this source tree: http://gitorious.org/x264-arm that seems to have support for the ARM platform. Here is my config line: ./configure --cross-prefix=/usr/bin/ --host=arm-apple-darwin10 --extra-cflags="-B /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneOS3.2.sdk/usr/lib/ -I /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneOS3.2.sdk/usr/lib/" ...and inside configure I'm using the gas-preprocessor script (first link above) as my assembler: gas-preprocessor.pl gcc When I start compiling, it chunks away for a little while, then it spits out these warnings and a huge list of undefined symbols: ld: warning: option -s is obsolete and being ignored ld: warning: -force_cpusubtype_ALL will become unsupported for ARM architectures ld: warning: in /usr/lib/crt1.o, missing required architecture arm in file ld: warning: in /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.dylib, missing required architecture arm in file ld: warning: in /usr/lib/libm.dylib, missing required architecture arm in file ld: warning: in /usr/lib/libpthread.dylib, missing required architecture arm in file ld: warning: in /usr/lib/libgcc_s.1.dylib, missing required architecture arm in file ld: warning: in /usr/lib/libSystem.dylib, missing required architecture arm in file Undefined symbols: My guess would be that the problem has to do with the "missing required architecture arm in file" warning...any ideas?

  • Compiling x264 with mp4 support problem

    - by johnas
I'm trying to compile x264 with mp4 output support. I download the latest version from their git by typing git clone git://git.videolan.org/x264.git When I run ./configure it configures and I'm able to make it. But when i try to configure it with ./configure --enable-mp4-output and then try to make it, it returns a strange error, indicating that there is a compilation error. The error message looks like: ... Lots of similar errors ... output/mp4.c:297: warning: implicit declaration of function ‘gf_isom_add_sample’ output/mp4.c:297: error: ‘mp4_hnd_t’ has no member named ‘p_file’ output/mp4.c:297: error: ‘mp4_hnd_t’ has no member named ‘i_track’ output/mp4.c:297: error: ‘mp4_hnd_t’ has no member named ‘i_descidx’ output/mp4.c:297: error: ‘mp4_hnd_t’ has no member named ‘p_sample’ output/mp4.c:299: error: ‘mp4_hnd_t’ has no member named ‘p_sample’ output/mp4.c:300: error: ‘mp4_hnd_t’ has no member named ‘i_numframe’ I've tried different releases. I've installed gpac, ffmpeg, and tried numerous tips from the net. But still can't get it to work. The reason I want it with mp4 output is because I want to use ffmpeg to create mp4 files encoded with x264. I'm running Ubuntu Server 9.10 32 bits.

  • Encoding h.264 with libavcodec/x264

    - by Leviathan
    I am attempting to encode video using libavcodec/libavformat. I'm trying to change the standard output-example.c from ffmpeg source. The AVI file is created on the disk, but the only sound is encoded. I tried adding a lot of options for x264 from here. All the other codecs works fine, mpeg2, mpeg4, mjpeg, xvid. In addition to specifying the parameters x264, I also set the codec to AVOutputFormat structure. That's all I've done. AVOutputFormat *pOutFormat; // in header file av_register_all(); AVCodec *codec = avcodec_find_encoder_by_name("libx264"); pOutFormat = guess_format("avi", NULL, NULL); pOutFormat->video_codec = codec->id; The debug output of my application: Output #0, mp4, to 'D:\1.avi': Stream #0.0: Video: libx264, yuv420p, 320x240, q=10-51, 500 kb/s, 90k tbn, 25 tbc Stream #0.1: Audio: aac, 44100 Hz, 1 channels, s16, 128 kb/s [libx264 @ 0x694010]using cpu capabilities: MMX2 SSE2Fast SSSE3 FastShuffle SSE4.2 [libx264 @ 0x694010]bitrate tolerance too small, using .01 [libx264 @ 0x694010]profile Main, level 2.0 [libx264 @ 0x694010]frame I:150 Avg QP:14.76 size: 2534 [libx264 @ 0x694010]mb I I16..4: 75.9% 0.0% 24.1% [libx264 @ 0x694010]final ratefactor: 17.57 [libx264 @ 0x694010]coded y,uvDC,uvAC intra: 42.7% 92.4% 47.4% [libx264 @ 0x694010]i16 v,h,dc,p: 11% 14% 2% 73% [libx264 @ 0x694010]i4 v,h,dc,ddl,ddr,vr,hd,vl,hu: 21% 18% 29% 5% 8% 10% 3% 3% 2% [libx264 @ 0x694010]kb/s:506.79

  • Can't correctly stream x264 video to mobile via RTSP

    - by Andrew
Hello! I'm trying to stream video compressed with x264 and NeroAAC and hinted with MP4Box. When i'm playing it with VLC player streaming works fine, as expected. When i'm trying to open URL with my HTC Hero, it switches to player mode, then starts "loading video" animation, then after some time it shows "unable to connect to server". Sample movies provided with DSS streamed fine regardless bitrate. I tried few encoding options, but always the same result. I suspect nocabac and level=11 but it didn't changed nothing. Is there some more specific encoding options for such type? Thank You!

  • Enable H.264 (or x264) in AVIDemux

    - by Thomas
I am trying to get AVIDemux set up with the X264 codec using this tutorial. The following is what goes down when I get to the ./configure --enable-mp4-output command Thomas-Phillipss-MacBook:x264 tomdabomb2u$ sudo ./configure --enable-mp4-output Password: Unknown option --enable-mp4-output, ignored Found no assembler Minimum version is yasm-0.6.2 If you really want to compile without asm, configure with --disable-asm. So I tried it. Thomas-Phillipss-MacBook:x264 tomdabomb2u$ sudo ./configure --enable-mp4-output --disable-asm Unknown option --enable-mp4-output, ignored Warning: gpac is too old, update to 2007-06-21 UTC or later Platform: X86_64 System: MACOSX asm: no avs: no lavf: no ffms: no gpac: no pthread: yes filters: crop select_every debug: no gprof: no PIC: no shared: no visualize: no bit depth: 8 You can run 'make' or 'make fprofiled' now. I issued make, and then Thomas-Phillipss-MacBook:x264 tomdabomb2u$ ./x264 -v -q 20 -o foreman.mp4 foreman_part_qcif.yuv 176x144. And as expected, the results are: x264 [error]: not compiled with MP4 output support So I'm stuck. Any ideas?

  • x264 IDR access unit with a SPS and a PPS

    - by Gcoop
Hi All, I am trying to encode video in h.264 that when split with Apples HTTP Live Streaming tools media file segmenter will pass the media file validator I am getting two errors on the split MPEG-TS file WARNING: Media segment contains a video track but does not contain any IDR access unit with a SPS and a PPS. WARNING: 7 samples (17.073 %) do not have timestamps in track 257 (avc1). After hours of research I think the "IDR" warning relates to not having keyframes in the right place on the segmented MPEG-TS file so in my ffmpeg command I set -keyint_min 1 to ensure keyframes where at every frame, but this didn't work. Although it would be great to get an answer, if anyone can shed any light on what a "IDR access unit with a SPS and a PPS" is or what the timestamps warning means I would be very grateful, thanks.

  • Is there any way to distribute x264 encoding jobs across multiple computers (to increase the encodin

    - by Breakthrough
Does anyone know of a current, active solution to encoding x264 videos across many computers (via the network) to increase encoding FPS? I heard in the past of the project x264farm; unfortunately, it is not actively developed anymore, and isn't compatible with newer x264 builds. I'm looking for a current solution, which is compatible with newer builds of x264. Just to note this, I'm a Windows user, so I'm only looking for Windows solutions (or at the very least, Linux). I've also seen the ELDER distributed encoder, but the quality varies depending on the settings you use - I'd prefer a solution similar to x264farm as noted above (the documentation outlines the encoding process), but one that is compatible with new(er) x264 builds, and is preferably actively developed. Final Edit: Unfortunately, the bounty for this question has expired, and I haven't found a decent solution for this. So if at any time someone finds a new, distributed encoding solution for x264 (or any h.264 coded, for that matter) - please answer this question! I'd love to discover an ideal method to make this work!

  • How can I send images to x264 one by one?

    - by Ole Jak
I've got an image generator written in C. Now I want to pass those images to x264 to encode them and write it to a file. Every 100th image should be a key frame in order to save the video to disk every 100th frame. The image generator calls onImageGenerated() after each image. I'd appreciate any pointers on how to set up x264 in this way.

  • Is there any way to distribute x264 encoding jobs across multiple computers (to increase the encoding speed)?

    - by Breakthrough
Does anyone know of a current, active solution to encoding x264 videos across many computers (via the network) to increase encoding FPS? Brownie points for cross-platform and open source, but just so you all know, I usually use Windows. Programs that I have heard of, and why I do not believe they are suitable: x264farm: Not actively developed. Good interface, but does not support two-pass encoding, and fails with newer x264 builds. ELDER: Again, not actively developed, but my issue was that it didn't work with new x264 builds, and it was very difficult to configure (read: randomly stopped working). While I don't absolutely need a program which is being actively developed, I would like one that supports two-pass encoding, and works with new(er) x264 builds. Additional information: So far, I've offered (and awarded!) two separate bounties on this question since I first posted it over two years ago, and I still haven't found a solution to this problem. What I'm looking for basically is a simple program to allow me to encode x264 videos using the processing power of multiple computers connected over a LAN. Furthermore, it would be nice if it worked with new(er) x264 builds, and supported two-pass encoding. If at any time someone has an updated answer, or a new solution to this problem, please post it and it will be given some consideration.

  • FFmpeg extract clip - stream frame rate differs from container frame rate (x264, aac)

    - by fideli
Summary H.264 video seems to have a really high frame rate that requires a scaling factor to the applied to the duration of video that I'm trying to extract (900x lower). Body I'm trying to extract a clip from a movie that I have in MP4 format (created using Handbrake). After trying mencoder and VLC, I decided to give FFmpeg a shot since it was the least troublesome when it came to copying the codecs. That is, compared to mencoder and VLC, the resulting file was still playable in QuickTime (I know about Perian, etc, I'm just trying to learn how all this works). Anyway, my command was as follows: ffmpeg -ss 01:15:51 -t 00:05:59 -i outofsight.mp4 \ -acodec copy -vcodec copy clip.mp4 During the copy, The following comes up: Seems stream 0 codec frame rate differs from container frame rate: 45000.00 (45000/1) -> 25.00 (25/1) Input #0, mov,mp4,m4a,3gp,3g2,mj2, from outofsight.mp4': Duration: 01:57:42.10, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 830 kb/s Stream #0.0(und): Video: h264, yuv420p, 720x384, 25 tbr, 22500 tbn, 45k tbc Stream #0.1(eng): Audio: aac, 48000 Hz, stereo, s16 Output #0, mp4, to 'out.mp4': Stream #0.0(und): Video: libx264, yuv420p, 720x384, q=2-31, 90k tbn, 22500 tbc Stream #0.1(eng): Audio: libfaac, 48000 Hz, stereo, s16 Stream mapping: Stream #0.0 -> #0.0 Stream #0.1 -> #0.1 Press [q] to stop encoding frame= 2591 fps=2349 q=-1.0 size= 8144kB time=101.60 bitrate= 656.7kbits/s … Instead of a 5:59 duration clip, I get the entire rest of the movie. So, to test this, I ran the ffmpeg command with -t 00:00:01. What I got was exactly a 15:00 minute clip. So I did some black box engineering and decided to scale my -t option by calculating what value to enter given that 1 second was interpreted as 900 s. For my desired 359 s clip, I calculated 0.399 s and so my ffmpeg command became: ffmpeg -ss 01:15.51 -t 00:00:00.399 -i outofsight.mp4 \ -acodec copy -vcodec copy clip.mp4 This works, but I have no idea why the duration is scaled by 900. Investigating further, each ffmpeg run has the line: Seems stream 0 codec frame rate differs from container frame rate: 45000.00 (45000/1) -> 25.00 (25/1) 45000/25 = 1800. Must be a relation somewhere. Somehow, the obscenely high frame rate is causing issues with the timing. How is that frame rate so high? The best part about this is that the resulting clip.mp4 has the exact same feature (due to the copied video codec), and taking further clips from this needs the same scaling for the -t duration option. Therefore, I've made it available for anyone willing to check this out. • X264 encoding using Opencv

    - by user573193
    I am working with a high resolution camera: 4008x2672. I a writing a simple program which grabs frame from the camera and sends the frame to a avi file. For working with such a high resolution, I found only x264 codec that could do the trick (Suggestions welcome). I am using opencv for most of the image handling stuff. As mentioned in this post http://doom10.org/index.php?topic=1019.0 , I modified the AVCodecContext members as per ffmpeg presets for libx264 (Had to do this to avoid broken ffmpeg defaults settings error). This is output I am getting when I try to run the program [libx264 @ 0x992d040]non-strictly-monotonic PTS 1294846981.526675 1 0 //Timestamp camera_no frame_no 1294846981.621101 1 1 1294846981.715521 1 2 1294846981.809939 1 3 1294846981.904360 1 4 1294846981.998782 1 5 1294846982.093203 1 6 Last message repeated 7 times [avi @ 0x992beb0]st:0 error, non monotone timestamps -614891469123651720 = -614891469123651720 OpenCV Error: Unspecified error (Error while writing video frame) in icv_av_write_frame_FFMPEG, file /home/ajoshi/ext/OpenCV-2.2.0/modules/highgui/src/cap_ffmpeg.cpp, line 1034 terminate called after throwing an instance of 'cv::Exception' what(): /home/ajoshi/ext/OpenCV-2.2.0/modules/highgui/src/cap_ffmpeg.cpp:1034: error: (-2) Error while writing video frame in function icv_av_write_frame_FFMPEG Aborted Modifications to the AVCodecContext are: if(codec_id == CODEC_ID_H264) { //fprintf(stderr, "Trying to parse a preset file for libx264\n"); //Setting Values manually from medium preset c-me_method = 7; c-qcompress=0.6; c-qmin = 10; c-qmax = 51; c-max_qdiff = 4; c-i_quant_factor=0.71; c-max_b_frames=3; c-b_frame_strategy = 1; c-me_range = 16; c-me_subpel_quality=7; c-coder_type = 1; c-scenechange_threshold=40; c-partitions = X264_PART_I8X8 | X264_PART_I4X4 | X264_PART_P8X8 | X264_PART_B8X8; c-flags = CODEC_FLAG_LOOP_FILTER; c-flags2 = CODEC_FLAG2_BPYRAMID | CODEC_FLAG2_MIXED_REFS | CODEC_FLAG2_WPRED | CODEC_FLAG2_8X8DCT | CODEC_FLAG2_FASTPSKIP; c-keyint_min = 25; c-refs = 3; c-trellis=1; c-directpred = 1; c-weighted_p_pred=2; } I am probably not setting the dts and pts values which I believed ffmpeg should be setting it for me.   • h264 RTP timestamp

    - by user269090
Hi Guys, I have a confusion about the timestamp of h264 RTP packet. I know the wall clock rate of video is 90KHz which I defined in the SIP SDP. The frame rate of my encoder is not exactly 30 FPS, it is variable. It varies from 15 FPS to 30 FPS on the fly. So, I cannot use any fixed timestamp. Could any one tell me the timestamp of the following encoded packet. After 0 milisecond encoded RTP timestamp = 0 (Let the starting timestamp 0) After 50 milisecond encoded RTP timestamp = ? After 40 milisecond encoded RTP timestamp = ? After 33 milisecond encoded RTP timestamp = ? What is the formula when the encoded frame rate is variable? Thank you in advance.

  • Why does use of H264 in sender/receiver pipelines introduce just HUGE delay?

    - by Serguey Zefirov
    When I try to create pipeline that uses H264 to transmit video, I get some enormous delay, up to 10 seconds to transmit video from my machine to... my machine! This is unacceptable for my goals and I'd like to consult StackOverflow over what I (or someone else) do wrong. I took pipelines from gstrtpbin documentation page and slightly modified them to use Speex: This is sender pipeline: #!/bin/sh gst-launch -v gstrtpbin name=rtpbin \ v4l2src ! ffmpegcolorspace ! ffenc_h263 ! rtph263ppay ! rtpbin.send_rtp_sink_0 \ rtpbin.send_rtp_src_0 ! udpsink host=127.0.0.1 port=5000 \ rtpbin.send_rtcp_src_0 ! udpsink host=127.0.0.1 port=5001 sync=false async=false \ udpsrc port=5005 ! rtpbin.recv_rtcp_sink_0 \ pulsesrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! audio/x-raw-int,rate=16000 ! \ speexenc bitrate=16000 ! rtpspeexpay ! rtpbin.send_rtp_sink_1 \ rtpbin.send_rtp_src_1 ! udpsink host=127.0.0.1 port=5002 \ rtpbin.send_rtcp_src_1 ! udpsink host=127.0.0.1 port=5003 sync=false async=false \ udpsrc port=5007 ! rtpbin.recv_rtcp_sink_1 Receiver pipeline: !/bin/sh gst-launch -v\ gstrtpbin name=rtpbin \ udpsrc caps="application/x-rtp,media=(string)video, clock-rate=(int)90000, encoding-name=(string)H263-1998" \ port=5000 ! rtpbin.recv_rtp_sink_0 \ rtpbin. ! rtph263pdepay ! ffdec_h263 ! xvimagesink \ udpsrc port=5001 ! rtpbin.recv_rtcp_sink_0 \ rtpbin.send_rtcp_src_0 ! udpsink port=5005 sync=false async=false \ udpsrc caps="application/x-rtp,media=(string)audio, clock-rate=(int)16000, encoding-name=(string)SPEEX, encoding-params=(string)1, payload=(int)110" \ port=5002 ! rtpbin.recv_rtp_sink_1 \ rtpbin. ! rtpspeexdepay ! speexdec ! audioresample ! audioconvert ! alsasink \ udpsrc port=5003 ! rtpbin.recv_rtcp_sink_1 \ rtpbin.send_rtcp_src_1 ! udpsink host=127.0.0.1 port=5007 sync=false async=false Those pipelines, a combination of H263 and Speex, work fine enough. I snap my fingers near camera and micropohne and then I see movement and hear sound at the same time. Then I changed pipelines to use H264 along the video path. The sender becomes: #!/bin/sh gst-launch -v gstrtpbin name=rtpbin \ v4l2src ! ffmpegcolorspace ! x264enc bitrate=300 ! rtph264pay ! rtpbin.send_rtp_sink_0 \ rtpbin.send_rtp_src_0 ! udpsink host=127.0.0.1 port=5000 \ rtpbin.send_rtcp_src_0 ! udpsink host=127.0.0.1 port=5001 sync=false async=false \ udpsrc port=5005 ! rtpbin.recv_rtcp_sink_0 \ pulsesrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! audio/x-raw-int,rate=16000 ! \ speexenc bitrate=16000 ! rtpspeexpay ! rtpbin.send_rtp_sink_1 \ rtpbin.send_rtp_src_1 ! udpsink host=127.0.0.1 port=5002 \ rtpbin.send_rtcp_src_1 ! udpsink host=127.0.0.1 port=5003 sync=false async=false \ udpsrc port=5007 ! rtpbin.recv_rtcp_sink_1 And receiver becomes: #!/bin/sh gst-launch -v\ gstrtpbin name=rtpbin \ udpsrc caps="application/x-rtp,media=(string)video, clock-rate=(int)90000, encoding-name=(string)H264" \ port=5000 ! rtpbin.recv_rtp_sink_0 \ rtpbin. ! rtph264depay ! ffdec_h264 ! xvimagesink \ udpsrc port=5001 ! rtpbin.recv_rtcp_sink_0 \ rtpbin.send_rtcp_src_0 ! udpsink port=5005 sync=false async=false \ udpsrc caps="application/x-rtp,media=(string)audio, clock-rate=(int)16000, encoding-name=(string)SPEEX, encoding-params=(string)1, payload=(int)110" \ port=5002 ! rtpbin.recv_rtp_sink_1 \ rtpbin. ! rtpspeexdepay ! speexdec ! audioresample ! audioconvert ! alsasink \ udpsrc port=5003 ! rtpbin.recv_rtcp_sink_1 \ rtpbin.send_rtcp_src_1 ! udpsink host=127.0.0.1 port=5007 sync=false async=false This is what happen under Ubuntu 10.04. I didn't noticed such huge delays on Ubuntu 9.04 - the delays there was in range 2-3 seconds, AFAIR.

  • Is it possible to install ffmpeg and x264 on a Synology Diskstation 209?

    - by Kieran Benton
Hi, Complete linux novice here! :) I'm trying to get my brilliant DS209 NAS box to do some transcoding for me of a few AVI videos to a format suitable for my Apply iTouch - yes I could do it with another machine and Handbrake but it would be really useful to offload some of this to the NAS to do overnight. I've managed to install ipkg onto my DS209 NAS box and have played around with installing some packages (binutils, mono, bash etc). I've even managed to install ffmpeg from ipkg and put together the correct command line profile to do the encoding as a .sh file: time ffmpeg -y -i $1 -f mp4 -title $2 -vcodec libx264 -level 21 -s 426×320 -b 512k -bt 512k -bufsize 4M -maxrate 4M -g 250 -coder 0 -threads 0 -acodec libfaac -ac 2 -ab 64k $3 However running this I get a missing dependency on libx264. I've tried building this from the latest source in git, but I get errors during the make process that I just don't understand (way out of my depth). encoder/set.c: In function 'x264_sei_version_write': encoder/set.c:491: error: 'X264_VERSION' undeclared (first use in this function) encoder/set.c:491: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once encoder/set.c:491: error: for each function it appears in.) make: *** [encoder/set.o] Error 1 Can anyone else try building it or give me a pointer as to what I can do to get this going? Its been a good learning experience so far! Thanks.

  • How to stream H264 Video from camera over FTP?

    - by Jay
I bought a h264 security camera system last year and set it up to ftp video to my computer. I was able to get the video to play (even though it played a little fast) on Ubuntu 11.04 using mplayer. A few months ago, I did a fresh install of 12.04 and I cannot seem to get the video to play with mplayer, smplayer or VLC. I have the restricted formats video packages installed and when playing with any of the players, all I get is a gray video. When calling mplayer from the command line to play the video with no options, I get a lot of these errors: [h264 @ 0x7f278c61f280]concealing 1320 DC, 1320 AC, 1320 MV errors No pts value from demuxer to use for frame! pts after filters MISSING I'm not a video expert and have been coming up with a lot of dead ends when Googling for this. Could someone offer some advice about how to play these videos? • Does FFMpeg support gpu acceleration of media encoding/decoding?

    - by Jason123
I was wondering if ffmpeg supported gpu acceleration. I was reading on their websites and came across contradicting information. http://www.ffmpeg.org/general.html#Video-Codecs -H.264 / AVC / MPEG-4 AVC / MPEG-4 part 10 (VDPAU acceleration) http://ffmpeg.org/trac/ffmpeg/wiki/x264EncodingGuide -Will a graphics card make x264 encode faster? No. libx264 doesn't use them (at least not yet). There are some proprietary encoders that utilize the GPU, but that does not mean they are well optimized, though encoding time may be faster; and they might be worse than x264 anyway, and possibly slower. Regardless, FFmpeg today doesn't support any means of gpu encoding, outside of libx264. If not, is there any way to add gpu acceleration to h.264 encoding/decoding?

  • remuxing mpv files from h264 AVI files

    - by crankharder
I have a bunch of, I think, x264 encoded AVIs that I'd like to convert to m4v so that I can play with Quicktime. Here's how I created them First I dump the vob from DVD with this: $ mplayer -dumpstream -dumpfile new.vob dvd://1 Then I compress it: $ mencoder -oac copy -o new.avi -ovc x264 -x264encopts crf=18 new.vob I tried doing this to convertthem to m4v, but it's blowing up... I tried dumping the h264/acc streams: $ mplayer new.avi -dumpvideo -dumpfile new.h264 $ mplayer new.avi -dumpaudio -dumpfile new.acc And remuxing(?) with MP4Box but I'm getting an error: $ MP4Box -add new.h264#video -add new.aac#audio new.m4v Cannot find H264 start code Error importing new.h264#video: BitStream Not Compliant So not sure what to do now...
