  Would you start J2EE project nowadays if you have other alternatives? UPDATE: I think little clarification is needed: Is it worth investing in J2EE if practically everything it claims to offer can be achieved by using other technologies? To be honest, J2EE scares me by its monstrosity and I foresee substantial maintenance and/or evolution costs.

• Storing date and time as epoch vs native datetime format in the database

  For most of my tasks I find it much easier to work with date and time in the epoch format: it's trivial to calculate timespan or determine if some event happened before or after another, I don't have to deal with time-zone issues if the data comes from different geographical sources, in case of scripting languages what I usually get from database when I request a datetime-typed column is a string that I need to parse in order to work with it. This list can go on, but for me in order to keep my code portable that's enough to ditch database's native datetime format and store date and time as integer. What do you guys think?

  Is it possible to write the code/compile Android application on one machine and debug it remotely on the emulator launched on another? I'm sick and tired of the emulator constantly eating half of my laptop's processor.

• File containing its own checksum

  Is it possible to create a file that will contain its own checksum (MD5, SHA1, whatever)? And to upset jokers I mean checksum in plain, not function calculating it.
