I'm trying to decide which spare server I should use to build a backup file/print server. These are both Dell PE2950 machines that haven't been used in about a year or so. One has 2 2.0 ghz quad core procs, and the other has 2 3.0 ghz dual core procs. None of these are the Nehalem procs since they're…

There seems to be significant confusion about Hyper-Threading. Part of the problem is that vendors like to tout every new feature as the greatest invention since the six-pack, and its follow-on the 12-pack. I used to think the 4-pack was a travesty, but now that I am older and can nolonger finish…

Does Prime95 use multiple cores? (Is there a difference in this regard between running it from Windows, UBCD, or UBCD4Win?)
If it doesn't, are there tools out there that will (preferably via a boot disc)?
Thanks!

Looking for a tool that can test a daul-core cpu via a boot disc, thus bypassing Windows (and ensuring that only the hardware is being tested).
UBCD4Win's included Prime95 is an older version and it can't run two threads at once. Ditto for UBCD.
Any idea? And while I'm asking, is there a boot tool…

Now this might sound like too many previous questions, but I am really confused about these terms. I was trying to understand how "dual core" is different from "Core 2 Duo", and I came across some answers. For example, this answer states:
Core 2 Duo has two cores inside a single physical package
and
