I use the Faenza icon collection in Ubuntu 12.04 Unity with no issues. I decided to change my Gimp launcher icon, so I made my own (gimp-ak.png) and added it, and its appropriately sized derivatives, to the Faenza icon folders:

Gimp launches every time I log into Xubuntu (v. 13.10).
Gimp is not shown under Settings Manager- Sessions and startup.
It does not appear in ~/.config/autostart.
I immediately close Gimp in these cases, so it is not running when I shut down the session.
