    Hello! I have in my office, a Konica Minolta bizhub 211 multifunction printer, it works well with windows workstations... It has a lot of good features, like duplex... I haven't found any drivers for UNIX, so I'm looking for alternative methods, how can we make it useable in Ubuntu. I'm thinking on some windows based server, or what I know... I wrote here requesting for drivers: ubuntu.hu, linuxforums.org, forums.debian.net, ubuntuforums.org; and also to the manufacturer, but they said only, that "the first PostScript supported printer is only bizhub 223", so they don't care that thing.   • Thunderbird: mails not displayed while everything worked a few minutes ago

    Hi all, I upgraded my Kaspersky and I closed everything before launching the upgrade process. Everything went well, but when I launched my Thunderbird, no mail and content were displayed. Everything is blank. Strangely my accounts are detected when expanding Tools/Account Settings. I completely closed Kaspersky and launched Thunderbird again, but it fixed nothing :( It is as if closing Thunderbird has damaged a core file. Any idea how to fix it? Thanks. Roland

  • How do i get a more recent version of Java on my Mac than is showing up in software update?

    I need at least Java 1.6 to run a program that someone else in my lab wrote On the Java website it tells me to update Java via apple's software update function, i've run this a few times but it only got up to Java 1.5.0_24 and it now says no more updates are available for my computer Is there another way to update Java on a Mac? Is my operating system maybe to old for Java 1.6? i'm not sure what i'm running exactly, and i can't find a list of what mac operating systems run what versions of Java because the java site just suggests using Mac's software update.

    I know how to do it in the Windows version of Word but I can't work out how in the Mac version. In Windows there's a crop tool where you can just drag to move the edges in to crop the image, how do I do that on the Mac? Also on the old version of Windows there was a command to delete the cropped sections of all images in a document to save file space, I can't find that in Word 2007 or Word for Mac.

  • why is drop box syncing so freakishly slowly in my linux virtual machine?

    i am setting up a linux virtual machine (windows 7 64 bit host, ubuntu 64 bit guest, using virtual box) and i just installed drop box and set it to sync. I've only got about 2Gb in there so i figured it should take just an afternoon, but it's going at about 0.5 kB/second and says it will take about 60 days. I usually get about 200 kB/second in the host OS, and downloading straight from the dropbox website through firefox in the ubuntu VM i get about that, but sync is really slow. any tips?

    (sorry, i think my jargon is a bit off there, not sure) I'm trying to work out what's going on with my podcasts not downloading properly, to see whether it was my pod-catching software or the connection i tried doing a ping on the podcast URL e.g. www.abc.net.au/rn/podcast/feeds/ockham.xml and it failed (i got "could not find host"), it works for the first part of it though www.abc.net.au I can get to the xml page in a web browser though, and ping doesn't work on the podcasts which have been downloading right either.

    i think that's what i need? i'm not sure i'm trying to run a command line program (BLAST, from NCBI) but it won't recognise the commands (blastall, formatdb, etc.) so i think i need to add the folder the bin is in to the path environment variable? i think that's what i need to do? i think that's what it's called? I think i've been shown this a few times, but i don't need to do it often, so i keep forgetting.

    (I'm using windows-7 and the hard drives are western digital with whatever formatting they came with from the factory) i'm thinking of setting up two different back-ups one through windows and one with the software that came with the drive (because windows gives me a system image but isn't very user-friendly for my files) but will my computer get confused and load them as different letters each time?

    Hi all, Im currently working on a "proper" URI validator and currently it all comes down to hostname validation, the rest isnt that tricky. Im stuck at IDN hostname labels (e.g. containing unicode; possible punycode encoded strings have been decoded at this point). My first idea was basicly a regex for TLD's not supporting IDN and one for those who do (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/tld-idn-policy-list.html (?)). Respectively; ^[a-zA-Z0-9-]+$ and ^[a-zA-Z0-9-\p{L}]+$ However this is not an ideal situation, since every IDN registrar can decide which characters to allow and which not. What im looking for is a proper, consistent, up2date data table of unicode characters allowed in various TLD's; im getting this idea i have to find all the data myself at russian and chinese registry sites (which is quite difficult). So before spitting down the web.. i wondered is there such a list? Or are there better approaches, best/common practices etc? (I want the validation to be as strict as possible.)   • Will it be possible to use a non-pae kernel in 12.10

    I know that Ubuntu +1 questions are frowned upon, but this I believe is a fair exception. Currently I have 2 systems running Ubuntu 12.10, and one of them has a Pentium M that doesn't support PAE (strange I know, but true). This has meant in the past that I had to rely on a custom iso to install Ubuntu a similar system,and so this time I went with Xubuntu 12.04. My question is 2 fold, but really one question: Is it/will it be possible to install a non-pae version of the 12.10 kernel from the standard repositories? If no, how can I get such a kernel? (Is there a PPA with such a kernel available?). NB: Before anyone suggests that I just install this package: http://packages.ubuntu.com/quantal/linux-image-generic, please note that this comes with PAE enabled. P.S. Yes, I have Googled. I haven't found the answer.

    Hi! In Hungary, the biggest TV channel is RTL Klub, they has a video archive site. They use Silverlight instead of Flash :( What is annoying, they use the lastest version of Silverlight, about 4.x. But Moonlight doesn't support it yet. I've been tried in Google Chrome (last dev version), and in Firefox (last stable version), and I've been used the both versions of Moonlight, the lastest stable, and the prerelease. The player loader is displayed, and loaded, but no player displayed after 30 mins waiting. If I want to swith to Ubuntu completly, how can I manage to play these videos? Thanks for your anwsers. I've been installed 10.04, and updated, but this strange stuff is happend. Graphical installion failed, same strange thing. With alternate workd. Sometimes, when I boot up, a boot message displayed: Keyboard failure..., often diplayed after reboot, and after shutdown, when I haven't plugged off from AC. I replaced the keyboard yet, same failure... If I powered off, and plugged off from AC, no keyboard problems displayed in boot time.   • How do I restore compiz advanced zoom?

    I lost compiz zoom due to some incompatibility that I am not sure about. I read about a fix before, but I forgot what it is. When I try to zoom with the super key and mouse it just vibrates the cursor. After further testing to find the problem, I know it has to be something that is trying to put the pointer to the centre of the screen. Hopefully someone will be able to track down the cause, because so far I cannot. EDIT - I've tried all kinds of options, including resetting all the settings on the plugin, still no change. I can't zoom, even if I change the keys. If it helps, restraining the mouse to the zoom area makes it jump to one side of the screen. Could it be that I have dual outputs that is causing the problem?

  • Does gwibber in Maverick work with the "me menu?"

    Currently if I try to post from the me menu, it just keeps the text I have entered. Is this a known bug? Or do I have to downgrade gwibber? I'm using the ppa version of gwibber. Is it possible for this version to work with the memenu? UPDATE: I still have not gotten an answer as such :( - so I'm updating the question. If I try to post from the me menu the text is grayed out, and it doesn't send my post when I hit enter.

After some months, my Chrome(now 10.0.648.127 beta; but I tried with the lastest stable too) displayed some popular sites in English, instead of my Chrome & system language, which is Hungarian... I saw my User-Agent, which shows in Chrome: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US) AppleWebKit/534.16 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/10.0.648.127 Safari/534.16 But in Firefox: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; hu-HU; rv:1.9.2.15) Gecko/20110303 Ubuntu/10.04 (lucid) Firefox/3.6.15, what is correct... My question is: How can I change my user-agent(maybe dynamically, by version)? I tried with google-chrome --user-agent "text", but it failed in the newest versions.

I have an IBM ThinkPad T42 laptop, and I have some troubles with built-in bluetooth, because in Hardware Drivers, there are no drivers for it, and in Bluetooth settings, it shows, that it has no BT devices. If I plug in an USB Bluetooth adapter, I can use easily Wammu for my mobile backup. I have no setting in BIOS, to enable, or disable it(if disable wireless refers to Wi-fi, but it is enabled too).   • Firefox 4 stores passwords, but suddenly forgot that it did?

    I am using firefox 4 as my default browser, but this is probably file system related. I will describe the problem and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction? Today I was using the browser as normal, all sign ins worked as usual, everything was normal. Then when I got back home tonight and opened it, none of my saved usernames/passwords would autofill/auto-signin anymore. I am guessing this must be something filesystem related, and it only happened this one time seemingly at random, so I don't think it is a firefox 4 bug. In fact, I think it might be something to do with suspending the system before I left? Anyone have any idea?

  • Where is my Ubuntu One ribbon?

    I'm not seeing the Ubuntu One ribbon in Nautilus-Elementary. I have the nautilus-terminal extension as well, so I don't know if they don't work together. I tried running nautilus from the terminal (for a separate issue), and I think I might be onto something. It seems the Ubuntu One ribbon is not finding something (it had an exception). I got the NE-Terminal working again by deleting the gconf directory for Nautilus.
