  • jQuery.extend not working in Internet Explorer, but works in Firefox

    - by Jared Stark
    I am attempting the following: var Class1 = function() {} Class1.prototype = { MyMethod: function() { /* Do Stuff */ } } var Class2 = function() {} Class2.prototype = { AnotherMethod: function() { /* Do More Sweet Stuff */ } } jquery.extend(true, Class1, Class2); I should now expect to be able to do the following: var c = new Class1(); c.AnotherMethod(); In Firefox 3.6 this works just fine. In Internet Explorer 7 & 8 it says "Object doesn't support this property or method". Am I misunderstanding how $.extend should work, or is IE behaving badly? jQuery Version: 1.3.2 Thanks!

  • jQuery.extend() not giving deep copy of object formed by constructor

    - by two7s_clash
    I'm trying to use this to clone a complicated Object. The object in question has a property that is an array of other Objects, and each of these have properties of different types, mostly primitives, but a couple further Objects and Arrays. For example, an ellipsed version of what I am trying to clone: var asset = new Assets(); function Assets() { this.values = []; this.sectionObj = Section; this.names = getNames; this.titles = getTitles; this.properties = getProperties; ... this.add = addAsset; function AssetObj(assetValues) { this.name = ""; this.title = ""; this.interface = ""; ... this.protected = false; this.standaloneProtected = true; ... this.chaptersFree = []; this.chaptersUnavailable = []; ... this.mediaOptions = { videoWidth: "", videoHeight: "", downloadMedia: true, downloadMediaExt: "zip" ... } this.chaptersAvailable = []; if (typeof assetValues == "undefined") { return; } for (var name in assetValues) { if (typeof assetValues[name] == "undefined") { this[name] = ""; } else { this[name] = assetValues[name]; } } ... function Asset() { return new AssetObj(); } ... function getProperties() { var propertiesArray = new Array(); for (var property in this.values[0]) { propertiesArray.push(property); } return propertiesArray; } ... function addAsset(assetValues) { var newValues; newValues = new AssetObj(assetValues); this.values.push(newValues); } } When I do var copiedAssets = $.extend(true, {}, assets); copiedAssets.values == [], while assets.values == [Object { name="section_intro", more...}, Object { name="select_textbook", more...}, Object { name="quiz", more...}, 11 more...] When I do var copiedAssets = $.extend( {}, assets); all copiedAssets.values.[X].properties are just pointers to the value in assets. What I want is a true deep copy all the way down. What am I missing? Do I need to write a custom extend function? If so, any recommended patterns?

  • jQuery fn.extend ({bla: function(){}} vs. jQuery.fn.bla

    - by tixrus
    OK I think I get http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1991126/difference-jquery-extend-and-jquery-fn-extend in that the general extend can extend any object, and that fn.extend is for plugin functions that can be invoked straight off the jquery object with some internal jquery voodoo. So it appears one would invoke them differently. If you use general extend to extend object obj by adding function y, then the method would attach to that object, obj.y() but if you use fn.extend then they are attach straight to the jquery object $.y().... Have I got that correct yes or no and if no what do I have wrong in my understanding? Now MY question: The book I am reading advocates using jQuery.fn.extend ({a: function(){}, b: function(){}}); syntax but in the docs it says jQuery.fn.a (function(){}); and I guess if you wanted b as well it would be jQuery.fn.b (function(){}); Are these functionally and performance-wise equivalent and if not what is the difference? Thank you very much. I am digging jQuery!

  • CodeIgniter extend user's session expiration time

    - by spacemonkey
    Hi, Is it possible to extend user's session expiration time in CI. What I want to do is, by default every user's session cookie lasts for example 1 day, but every time user visits the site his session expiration time is extended by one more day. I don't know if it is a good idea to do this, maybe I should just set cookies life time for like a week and that's it? Thanks!

  • Difficulty with MooTools Class.extend

    - by Erin Drummond
    Consider the following code: var Widget = new Class({ Implements: [Options], options: { "name" : "BaseWidget" }, initialize: function(options) { alert("Options are: " + JSON.stringify(options)); //alerts "Options are: undefined" this.setOptions(options); alert("My options are: " + JSON.stringify(this.options)); //alerts "My options are: { 'name' : 'BaseWidget' }" }, getName: function() { return this.options.name; } }); var LayoutWidget = Widget.extend({ initialize: function() { this.parent({ "name" : "Layout" }); } }); alert(new LayoutWidget().getName()); //alerts "BaseWidget" I am having difficulty in determining why the argument passed in the "this.parent()" call in "initialize" function of LayoutWidget is coming through as "undefined" in the initialize function of Widget. I am using MooTools 1.2.2. Would somebody be able to point me in the right direction?

  • jQuery: extend plugin question

    - by Fuxi
    hi all, i'm having this simple plugin code: (function ($) { $.fn.tWeb = function () { var me = this; me.var1 = "foo"; this.done = function() { return this; } return this.done(); }; })(jQuery); var web = new jQuery.fn.tWeb(); alert(web.var1); works nice - alert(web.var1) is giving me "foo". my question: would it be possible extending this plugin by simply including another .js which has more code? eg. that i could ask for web.var2 i previously used a prototype function and could "extend" it by simply adding another js-include which refered to it eg. like tWeb.prototype.newfunction = function() how could this be done with jQuery? thx

  • Getting a design company to embrace the benefits of good development

    - by Toby
    I know there are already various topics discussing what we can do to get managers to buy into good development practices, but I was wondering if there are any specific things we can do to explain to designers that Web Development is more than just turning their design into a website. I want to try and push them to design based on progressive enhancement, responsive design and ajax but I think there is a trend to stick to the print based design principles, which is understandable as it is their background, but is frustrating to a dev.

  • Objective-C Custom extend

    - by ryanjm.mp
    I have a couple classes that have nearly identical code. Only a string or two is different between them. What I would like to do is to make them from another class that defines those functions and then uses constants or something else to define those strings that are different. I'm not sure if "___" is inheritance or extending or what. That is what I need help with. For example: objectA.m: -(void)helloWorld { NSLog("Hello %@",child.name); } objectBob.m: #define name @"Bob" objectJoe.m #define name @"Joe" (I'm not sure if it's legal to define strings, but this gets the point across) It would be ideal if objectBob.m and objectJoe.m didn't have to even define the methods, just their relationship to objectA.m. Is there any way to do something like this? If all else fails I'll just make objectA.m: -(void)helloWorld:(NSString *name) { NSLog("Hello %@",name); } And have the other files call that function (and just #import objectA.m).

  • should I extend or create instance of the class

    - by meWantToLearn
    I have two classes Class A and Class B in Class A, i have three methods that perform the save, delete and select operation based upon the object I pass them. in Class B I perform the logic operations, such as modification to the property of the object before being passed to the methods of Class A, My problem is in Class B, should it extend Class A, and call the methods of class A , by parent::methodName or create instance of class A and then call Class A does not includes any property just methods. class A{ public function save($obj){ //code here } public function delete($obj){ //code here } public function select($obj){ //code here } } //Should I extend class A, and call the method by parent::methodName($obj) or create an instance of class A, call the method $instanceOfA-methodName($obj); class B extends A{ public function checkIfHasSaved($obj){ if($obj->saved == 'Yes'){ parent::save($obj); //**should I call the method like this** $instanceOFA = new A(); //**or create instance of class A and call without extending class A** instanceOFA->save($obj); } //other logic operations here } }

  • Lubuntu notifications extend off screen

    - by cbojar
    I just installed a fresh Lubuntu 12.04. When notifications pop up in the corner, longer ones seem to extend off-screen and get cut off. Shorter ones do not have this problem (I'm assuming they draw from a fixed corner at top left and dynamically extend). My screen resolution is correct and no other applications seem to have this problem. I've even changed the resolution and the problem persists (at both resolutions). Is there any way to fix this? Is there a max-width setting or something that might need adjusting?

  • How to extend/patch an existing module or package?

    - by nat
    I want to extend some locale-specific features of a python application named OpenERP. All I need is implementing a third party module.function that would be called every time OpenERP calls locale.setlocale() function without changing neither OpenERP nor locale module source code. The only way I can imagine is provide a module named locale.py inside main application package dir, but It seems that is an unpythonic workaround.

  • Win'08 - Extend volume size on SAN attached storage in a failover cluster

    - by user53207
    Running Win 2008, I'd like to extend the volume of a SAN attached drive that is part of a failover cluster. The SAN team has allocated additional drive space which is being seen by Windows Storage Manager. However, the option to "Extend Volume" is disabled, so is the ability to turn it into a dynamic disk. Is the ability to extend volumes when part of a failover cluster disabled or not available when it's part of SAN attached storage?
