    Can anyone share his experience on workflow for R peject development under ESS? I tried several times to learn emacs but I have not get it yet. I can understand ESS as an editor, but is there a project view in ESS? what's the efficient ways to set up/view R project directory, coding, and testing? Thanks for any advices.

  • Enable scratch buffer to execute R code in emacs-ess

    Hello, I have switched to using emacs-ess for my R code development and it is working great. I would like to be able to write some small R code I am using for debugging my R script into the scratch buffer, and be able to execute the scratch buffer code in the R process buffer. I've found how I could change the scratch buffer's mode to text by putting the following in the .emacs file: (setq initial-major-mode 'text-mode) Is there a similar statement I can put in my .emacs file that would make the scratch buffer have the ess-mode? I tried the following which results in an error about wrong type argument: (setq initial-major-mode 'ess-mode)

  • R: ESS shell.exec speed

    I am using ESS in Windows XP. I have noticed that shell.exec is much slower with ESS than with RGui (the problem occurs when I try help(ls) for example, the help is displayed much faster in RGui, I tracked it down and it is due to shell.exec). Is there any reason for this? How can I fix it? My default browser is Firefox.

  • How to stop emacs from replacing underbar with <- in ess-mode

    ess-mode is "Emacs speaks statistics." This mode is useful for editing programs for R or Splus (two separate statistics packages). In my buffer, when ever I type '_' the character is replaced with "<-" which is very frustrating. Is there a emacs lisp statement to turn off this behavior?     Hi, I launch Blackberry ESS in standalone mode. However I don't have Outlook Express on my computer. Instead I have Outlook 2007 on my computer. I set up an email account in Outlook 2007 which uses 'localhost' as its pop3/smtp server. The port numbers I used are the same as those in http://www.blackberryforums.com/developer-forum/5590-sending-receiving-email-device-simulator.html. However I got the following exception. 'UnknownHostException:pop3.server'. I am wondering if Outlook 2007 works with ESS.

  • Preview colours in Emacs-ESS

    I accidentally managed to get colour names, #HEX, and a colour preview in Emacs-ESS. Don't have a bloody idea how, must've pressed some keybinding or menu item... But, now I can't seem to find where's that feature... I'm quite sure I wasn't hallucinating, so it's gotta be there, under some keystroke that I can't reproduce!!! =) Thanks in advance!

  • ESS/AucTeX/Sweave integration

    I'm using GNU/Linux distro (Arch, if that's relevant), Emacs v23.2.1, ESS v5.9 and AucTeX v11.86. I want to setup AucTeX to recognize .Rnw files, so I can run LaTeX on .Rnw files with C-c C-c and get .dvi file automatically. I reckon it's quite manageable by editing .emacs file, but I still haven't got a firm grasp on Elisp. Yet another problem is quite annoying - somehow, LaTeX is not recognizing \usepackage{Sweave} in preambule, so I actually need to copy Sweave.sty file (in my case located in /usr/share/R/texmf/Sweave.sty) to directory where .Rnw file is located (and I'm getting more frustrated with the fact that this is common bug on Windows platforms!) My question boils down to two problems: how to make LaTeX recognize \usepackage{Sweave} (without copying Sweave.sty to "home" folder each time) how to setup AucTeX to compile .Rnw files to .dvi

  • editing Rnw in Emacs, gets confused if in math mode or not

    When editing .Rnw files with emacs, sometimes it gets confused as to if I am in math mode or not. Then, the syntax highlighting gets messed up, and C-f-i inserts \textit{} and \mathit{} opposite to how it normally should. Is seems like there is some bool storing the state of math mode or not, and it gets inadvertently flipped. Is there a way I can manually flip it back?

  • SQL Server 2008: Getting Login failed for user "Domain\User". Failed to open the explicitly specified database [CLIENT: IP.ADD.RR.ESS]

    This is a very similar issue to " SQL Server 2008 login problem with ASP.NET application: Failed to open the explicitly specified database " which unfortunately seems to have gone unsolved. My issue here is subtly different. Firstly the account failing login is not 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE' - it's an actual domain account. Secondly, there are two machines involved - I gathered from the first question it was a single machine running both the IIS and SQL instances. The application which is trying to connect to the database is an ASP.NET one running on another server (if that makes any different, I'm not sure it does.) The ConnectionString being used in the web.config for the application is : data source=MySQLServer;initial catalog=MyDatabase;integrated security=sspi; And the Application Pool is set to NetworkService for Identity. So - in the web app, I get the following error : Cannot open database "MyDatabase" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'MyDomain\WebServerMachineName$' In the SQL Server logs I see : Login failed for user 'MyDomain\WebServerMachineName$'. Reason: Failed to open the explicitly specified database. [CLIENT: Web.Server.IP.Address] Running this bit of SQL against the database in question : USE [MyDatabase] GO SELECT SDP.name AS [User Name], SDP.type_desc AS [User Type], UPPER(SDPS.name) AS [Database Role] FROM sys.database_principals SDP INNER JOIN sys.database_role_members SDRM ON SDP.principal_id=SDRM.member_principal_id INNER JOIN sys.database_principals SDPS ON SDRM.role_principal_id = SDPS.principal_id Gets me this result : MyDomain\WebServerMachineName$ WINDOWS_USER DB_DDLADMIN MyDomain\WebServerMachineName$ WINDOWS_USER DB_DATAREADER MyDomain\WebServerMachineName$ WINDOWS_USER DB_DATAWRITER Which appears to me to indicate I've got the permissions right.     I would always just spell it out saying "Eye Eye Ess," but my boss always calls it "Two Ess," like the II is roman numeral. I know it stands for Internet Information so it is not really numbers, but on the other hand it is a lot easier to say "Two Ess." Ps- This should probably be a community wiki.

    I have 2 Xaml files, one containing a DataTemplate which has a resource definition for an Image brush, and the other containing a content control which presents this DataTemplate. The data template is bound to a view model class. Everything seems to work EXCEPT the ImageBrush resource, which just shows up white... Any ideas?   • How can I best geocode a table of addresses in SQL Server?

    I've got a SQL Server 2008 table with addresses. I've got some C# code that can individually geocode the addresses. I've got a Google Maps API for geocoding. Now I'm trying to figure out the most efficient way to use these resources. I could write a console app that manually updates the tables using my C# library, but the data I have is updated periodically. I will be performing an import routine of some sort and I'm thinking it would be 'simplest' to perform the geocoding as the import occurs. I'm not so strong on SQL Server capabilities, so I'm looking for advice. I've considered letting the import call an assembly I create that would be referenced in SQL Server, but read that Sql Server 2008 has made it virtually impossible to reference your own DLL. So my next guess is having the import call a web service to pass in the address and update the table with the results, but I've not had much luck in finding info on this method. Any advice?

I have a Hub and spoke network where the HUB is an ASA Firewall version 8.2 * I basicaly want to allow 2 spokes to be able to communicate with each other. [debian:49065] Abort before MPI_INIT completed successfully; not able to guarantee that all other processes were killed!** root@debian:/usr/include/c++/4.7# I tried looking into the problem and ended up uninstalling the following to get it to work again. openmpi common all 1.4.5-1 libibverbs-dev amd64 1.1.6-1 libopenmpi-dev amd64 1.4.5-1 mpi-default-dev amd64 1.0.1 libboost-mpi-python1.49.0 although pydoc works again, I'm assuming the packages I removed are gunna hurt somethiong else down the track ? As you guessed im not a c/c++ programmer. So I guess my question is, will this hurt something later ? is their a way to install those packages without hurting python ?
