  • File manager respawns with ubuntuone

    - by pygator
Starting Feb 11, my Ubuntu 10.10 desktop respawns FileManager many times(hundreds). You can observe the "Starting File Manager" processes at the bottom of the gnome desktop. I can make this behaviour stop by: System - Preferences - Ubuntu One - Services - uncheck "Files". Can someone walk me though the debug process? Linux 2.6.35-25-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 21 17:40:48 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux I'm trying to reset the Ubuntu One configuration. I found good information here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuOne/Bugs Look for "ROOT_MISMATCH in syncdaemon.log" After running through the steps to reset and restart UbuntuOne, no more "Starting File Mangager" respawns.

  • Desktop icons disappears when Nautilus is launched, until next boot

    - by Santosh
What happens: When I log in into my Ubuntu everything is normal, I have some icons on my desktop and I can see them at this point of time. As soon as I click on the explorer (nautilus) on the Launcher bar, everything goes (disappers) and never comes. No matter how many time you click on the launcher, you can't open nautilus. I tried opening nautilus from the terminal, get the following: santosh@santosh:~$ nautilus Initializing nautilus-gdu extension ** (nautilus:2158): DEBUG: SyncDaemon already running, initializing SyncdaemonDaemon object Initializing nautilus-open-terminal extension (nautilus:2158): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_action_set_visible: assertion `GTK_IS_ACTION (action)' failed (nautilus:2158): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_action_set_visible: assertion `GTK_IS_ACTION (action)' failed Segmentation fault I suspect on "Segmentation fault" on the last line, whats that? I was amazed when I run this command in sudo.: santosh@santosh:~$ sudo nautilus Initializing nautilus-gdu extension ** (nautilus:2216): DEBUG: Syncdaemon not running, waiting for it to start in NameOwnerChanged Initializing nautilus-open-terminal extension (nautilus:2216): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_action_set_visible: assertion `GTK_IS_ACTION (action)' failed (nautilus:2216): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_action_set_visible: assertion `GTK_IS_ACTION (action)' failed Nautilus-Share-Message: Called "net usershare info" but it failed: 'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare: cannot open usershare directory /var/lib/samba/usershares. Error No such file or directory Please ask your system administrator to enable user sharing. As soon as I type sudo nautilus and hit enter, nautilus starts and the desktop background changes (to the default which ubuntu has). Don't know why but at this point as soon as I click on Desktop (from the left pane) then nautilus closes. Did anyone has same issue? I am corrently working with commandline to do my work and its a big pain. Additional Information: Another thing I have noticed that when I want to open the location of PDF file I am reading in document viewer (by clicking the folder icon). It gives error "Could not open the containing folder" and "Failed to execute child process "nautilus" (Permission denied)". Any idea?

  • Display folder sizes in file manager

    - by wim
In nautilus (or nemo) file manager, the "Size" column shows the filesize for files and the number of items contained in a folder for subdirectories: Number of items is not that important for me, it would be more useful if I could make this column show the total size contained under the directory. I had an extension on windows called foldersize which shows what I mean: I think it involved a service which ran in the background monitoring filesystem modifications in order to make sure the column was kept up to date. I am interested to know if there is any similar extension to nautilus, I would also be open to switching to another file manager to get this functionality. I am aware of the Disk Usage Analyser in Ubuntu, but what I'm looking for is a solution with file manager integration.

  • Default file manager changed, can't change back

    - by user16171
(Using ubuntu 11.04) I tried to open a torrent file in chrome, and it asked for my default application, so I clicked Transmission, and then I got an error: "Failed to execute default file manager, Failed to execute child process "transmission" (No such file or directory)." Now if I click on any shortcut on the unity bar, such as the trash folder or the icon for my portable hard drive, I get this error, as well as with any download or folder from chrome or firefox. I can't seem to figure out how to fix this, as there seems to be no easy way to do it.

  • How to maintain symlinks in linux file manager?

    - by MountainX
I want to use symlinks extensively. However, if I move the target file, the symlink becomes broken (unlike on Windows). That's not acceptable to me, so I either need a solution or I won't be able to use symlinks the way I wish to. Is there a solution that will work with Dolphin file manager? A command line solution is described on commandlinefu. In summary, it is something like one of these: lmv(){for a in ${@:1:$(expr $#-1)};do [ -e "$a" -a -e "${@:$#:1}" ] && mv "$a";"${@:$#:1}" && ln -s "${@:$#:1}"/"$(basename "$a")";"$(dirname "$a")";done} lmv(){for a in ${@:1:$(expr $#-1)};do [ -e "$a" -a -e "${@:$#}" ] && mv "$a";"${@:$#}" && ln -s "${@:$#}"/"$(basename "$a")";"$(dirname "$a")";done} But about half the time I'm using a file manager (Dolphin), so I need a complete solution to this problem. Is a solution available for a GUI file manager? EDIT: The context of this question is that I'm searching for an alternative to hardlinks. I previously asked this question about the pitfalls of hardlinks.

  • How to completely integrate Nemo with Ubuntu?

    - by user74660
I have installed Nemo (a fork of Nautilus created by the Linux Mint Team) in my Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS with Gnome Shell 3.4.2. I followed the instructions here (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DefaultFileManager), changing the "inode" and "x-directory" in the file "defaults.list", to make Nemo my default file manager. Now everything works perfectly, except for one thing: opening folders from desktop. I have set the option "Have file manager handle the desktop" on. Cool. The problem is that the desktop seems to be handled by Nautilus only, even if I have set another file manager as default. Every time I double click a folder on the desktop, it is opened by Nautilus, not Nemo. Please, does anybody know how to fix this? Thanks for your time. :)

  • How to set PcManFm as the default file manager?

    - by JarekJ83
I think Nautilus is so slow, and I'd like to move to PCmanFM, but didn't find any good tips how to do this in Ubuntu 12.10. I have PCmanFM installed already, and I even changed: $ sudo gedit /usr/share/applications/nautilus-folder-handler.desktop [Desktop Entry] Name=Files Comment=Access and organize files Exec=pcmanfm %U Icon=system-file-manager Terminal=false NoDisplay=true Type=Application StartupNotify=true OnlyShowIn=GNOME;Unity; Categories=GNOME;GTK;Utility;Core; MimeType=inode/directory;application/x-gnome-saved-search; X-GNOME-Bugzilla-Bugzilla=GNOME X-GNOME-Bugzilla-Product=nautilus X-GNOME-Bugzilla-Component=general X-GNOME-Bugzilla-Version=3.2.1 X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=nautilus Still slow Nautilus is default one.

  • Newbie needs to learn basic file management

    - by Leo in NJ
I have been using Ubuntu for abut 2 weeks and and still frustrated by simple file operations. I want to find a file called 9.jpg. Every internal command 3-rd party program I have tried also gives me 99.jpg, 999.jpg, lovepotion number9.jpg and a zillion other similar ones. How do you search for an EXACT file name WITHOUT wildcards? This is only my most recent frustration. I'm obviously missing something basic. good tutorial anywhere?

  • how do you find a file's location?

    - by home-directory
Noob here. OK, I 1 Open the Dash. 2 Type "file". An app appears, called "files", icon looks like ta 2-drawer file cabinet. I click that, the app opens 3: I click the "Search button". I type the file name in the box and hit Enter. 4: The program thinks for a while, then displays a result. Great! the program found the file I was ilooking for! IT knows where myfile.foo is, BUT I DON'T! IT DOESN'T F%*%#ING SAY WHERE IT IS!!!! How do I find out where it is, please? I hate to say this, but is there an app that works like Windows Explorer (but doesn't crash every 2 minutes)?

  • How to create a bookmark under "computer" in the Sidebar of the nautilus file manager in 12.04?

    - by Jiskya
Somehow, I removed the Downloads bookmark in the Sidebar under "Computer". Is there any way I can make a new one? Possibly with the same icon? I still have my Downloads directory. I just don't have the bookmark under "Computer" anymore, and it has the ordinary folder icon. I know it's not the most significant question, but it's a question nonetheless. Also, I'm not sure, but it may be important to note that I'm using unity 2d.

  • How to organize my 1000s of PDF?

    - by mmb
I have a huge collection of PDF. Mostly it consists of research papers, of self-created documents but also of scanned documents. Right now I drop them all in one folder and give them precise names with tags in the filename. But even that gets impractical, so I am looking for a PDF library management application. I am thinking of something like Yep for Mac, with the following features: PDF cover browsing (with large preview, larger than Nautilus allows) tagging of PDF (data should be readable cross-platform) possibility to share across network (thus rather flat files than database) if possible: cross-platform Mendeley seemed to be a good choice, but I am not only having academic papers and don't want to fill it all metadata that is required there. The only alternative I could find thus far is Shoka, but the features are limited and developments seems to have stopped already.

  • Why am I getting such slow file transfer performance?

    - by kingdango
Copying 4GB from a USB flash drive to my Linux partition. The flash drive is NTFS formatted (I believe, it's Windows formatted). The transfer is incredibly slow and blocks the computer frequently causing lag and hanging applications. My transfer rate is 1.2 MB/sec and that is the max it has hit when I let the File Operations window have focus. Why is this so slow under Ubuntu and significantly faster in Win 7?

  • PCManFM problems: shuts down unexpectedly, would not always start [closed]

    - by cipricus
In Lubuntu 12.04 beta (final release in a few days). I do not remember doing something outrageous to my PCManFM but now it has has a lot of problems: "extract here" menu action wouldn't work (this problem never disappears) the program shuts without obvious reason making the desktop empty (the program can be started in run (alt-f2) but this does not alway restore the desktop) would not start sometimes from its /usr/share/applications.desktop file (or the "Aplication Launch Bar") although it starts in run (alt-f2) (the last problem is temporarily solved if the program is closed in task manager and than restarted with alt-f2) I have reinstalled it to no avail. Any ideas?

  • Where to find a tag based file manager?

    - by samoanbiscuit
I'm a CS uni student in a country with limited bandwidth, and I find that I download files (particularly install files) for reuse\reinstallation\giving to my friends.. I've kept these files in different folders, and now find it extremely hard to find them, and keeping track of obselete files (the almost weekly releases of iTunes versions, or latest 7zip release or the .Net framework installers). What I would like to find is a file manager that could support tags, so instead of hierachical folders, i could find\view files according to their tags...

  • Best package for basic web-based file manager

    - by alchemical
I'm looking for a basic web-based file management application. It must have an affordable price, and fairly easy installation would be a plus. ASP.Net / IIS based would be easiest for me to work with. Basically, I'd like it to create a secure web site where myself and a few people can exchange various types of files, etc. I'm looking for a package I can install on my own server rather than a web-based service, as I think I can get more space at a good price point this way. I could go custom coding, but I figure this is such a generic need, there must be something already mature out there at a decent price. What has worked best for you?

  • Creating managed file transfer software in java

    - by Shekhar
Hello, I have been asked to do some POC on how we can provide a software solution which will be able to manage files. Manage files means it will be able to move files from source to destination servers. The client gave us 4 page document detailing what sort of software they are looking for. They dont want to use existing commercial softwares. They want to build their own customizable software. Has anybody worked on this type of project? Please provide your inputs on how should i approach this project. The software should be platform independent and should be built in java.

  • NSFILEMANAGER CRASHING IN APP DELEGATE

    - by theiphoneguy
    I have this code in a method called from applicationDidFinishLaunching. It works in the simulator, but crashes on the iPhone. There are about 1,600 2KB mp3 files being copied in this operation. If I try to instantiate the app multiple times, it will eventually copy more each time until the app eventually will start without crashing. I am releasing everything I allocate. I have about 20GB disk space free on the iPhone. If I progressively comment out code and run it on the iPhone, the copyItemAtPath seems to be the suspect. (void)createCopyOfAudioFiles:(BOOL)force { @try { NSError *error; NSString *component; NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0]; NSFileManager *fileManager = [[NSFileManager alloc] init]; NSEnumerator *enumerator = [[[NSBundle mainBundle]pathsForResourcesOfType:@"mp3" inDirectory:nil] objectEnumerator]; while ((component = [enumerator nextObject]) != nil) { NSArray *temp = [component componentsSeparatedByString:@".app/"]; NSString *file = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@", [temp objectAtIndex:1]]; NSString *writableAudioPath = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:file]; BOOL success = [fileManager fileExistsAtPath:writableAudioPath]; if (success && !force) { continue; } else if (success && force) { success = [fileManager removeItemAtPath:writableAudioPath error:&error]; } success = [fileManager copyItemAtPath:component toPath:writableAudioPath error:&error]; if (!success) { @throw [NSException exceptionWithName:[error localizedDescription] reason:[error localizedFailureReason] userInfo:nil]; } } [fileManager release]; } @catch (NSException *exception) { NSLog(@"%@", exception); @throw [NSException exceptionWithName:exception.name reason:exception.reason userInfo:nil]; } @finally { } }

  • SQLite/iPhone read copyright symbol

    - by Marco A
Hi All, I am having problems reading the copyright symbol from a sqlite db that I have for my App that I am developing. I import the information manually, ie, from an excel sheet. I have tried two ways of doing it and failed with both: 1) Tried replacing the copyright symbol with "\u00ae" (unicode combination) within excel and then importing the modified file. - Result: I get the combination of \u00ae as a part of the string, it doesnt detect the unicode combination. 2) Tried leaving as it is. Importing the excel with the copyright symbol. - Result: I get a symbol that is different from the copyright, its something like an AE put together.looks like this: Æ Heres my code how I read from DB: -(void) readCategoriesFromDatabase:(NSString *) rest_input { // Init the products Array categories = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; // Open the database from the users filessytem rest_input = [rest_input stringByAppendingString:@"'"]; NSString *newString; newString = [@"select distinct category from food where restaurant='" stringByAppendingString:rest_input]; const char *cat_sqlStatement = [newString UTF8String]; sqlite3_stmt *cat_compiledStatement; if(sqlite3_prepare_v2(database, cat_sqlStatement, -1, &cat_compiledStatement, NULL) == SQLITE_OK) { // Loop through the results and add them to the feeds array while(sqlite3_step(cat_compiledStatement) == SQLITE_ROW) { NSString *catName = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:(char *)sqlite3_column_text(cat_compiledStatement,0)]; // Create a new product object with the data from the database Product *category = [[Product alloc] initWithName:catName]; // Add the product object to the respective Array [categories addObject:category]; [category release]; } sqlite3_finalize(cat_compiledStatement); } NSLog(@"Finished Accessing Database to gather Categories...."); } I open the DB with this function: -(void) checkAndCreateDatabase{ NSLog(@"Checking/Creating Database...."); NSFileManager *fileManager = [NSFileManager defaultManager]; success = [fileManager fileExistsAtPath:databasePath]; [fileManager removeFileAtPath:databasePath handler:nil]; NSString *databasePathFromApp = [[[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath] stringByAppendingPathComponent:databaseName]; [fileManager copyItemAtPath:databasePathFromApp toPath:databasePath error:nil]; [fileManager release]; if (sqlite3_open([databasePath UTF8String], &database) != SQLITE_OK) { sqlite3_close(database); database = nil; } NSLog(@"Finished Checking/Creating Database...."); } Thanks to anything that can help me out.

  • Migrating Core Data to new UIManagedDocument in iOS 5

    - by samerpaul
I have an app that has been on the store since iOS 3.1, so there is a large install base out there that still uses Core Data loaded up in my AppDelegate. In the most recent set of updates, I raised the minimum version to 4.3 but still kept the same way of loading the data. Recently, I decided it's time to make the minimum version 5.1 (especially with 6 around the corner), so I wanted to start using the new fancy UIManagedDocument way of using Core Data. The issue with this though is that the old database file is still sitting in the iOS app, so there is no migrating to the new document. You have to basically subclass UIManagedDocument with a new model class, and override a couple of methods to do it for you. Here's a tutorial on what I did for my app TimeTag.  Step One: Add a new class file in Xcode and subclass "UIManagedDocument" Go ahead and also add a method to get the managedObjectModel out of this class. It should look like:   @interface TimeTagModel : UIManagedDocument   - (NSManagedObjectModel *)managedObjectModel;   @end   Step two: Writing the methods in the implementation file (.m) I first added a shortcut method for the applicationsDocumentDirectory, which returns the URL of the app directory.  - (NSURL *)applicationDocumentsDirectory {     return [[[NSFileManagerdefaultManager] URLsForDirectory:NSDocumentDirectoryinDomains:NSUserDomainMask] lastObject]; }   The next step was to pull the managedObjectModel file itself (.momd file). In my project, it's called "minimalTime". - (NSManagedObjectModel *)managedObjectModel {     NSString *path = [[NSBundlemainBundle] pathForResource:@"minimalTime"ofType:@"momd"];     NSURL *momURL = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:path];     NSManagedObjectModel *managedObjectModel = [[NSManagedObjectModel alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:momURL];          return managedObjectModel; }   After that, I need to check for a legacy installation and migrate it to the new UIManagedDocument file instead. This is the overridden method: - (BOOL)configurePersistentStoreCoordinatorForURL:(NSURL *)storeURL ofType:(NSString *)fileType modelConfiguration:(NSString *)configuration storeOptions:(NSDictionary *)storeOptions error:(NSError **)error {     // If legacy store exists, copy it to the new location     NSURL *legacyPersistentStoreURL = [[self applicationDocumentsDirectory] URLByAppendingPathComponent:@"minimalTime.sqlite"];          NSFileManager* fileManager = [NSFileManagerdefaultManager];     if ([fileManager fileExistsAtPath:legacyPersistentStoreURL.path])     {         NSLog(@"Old db exists");         NSError* thisError = nil;         [fileManager replaceItemAtURL:storeURL withItemAtURL:legacyPersistentStoreURL backupItemName:niloptions:NSFileManagerItemReplacementUsingNewMetadataOnlyresultingItemURL:nilerror:&thisError];     }          return [superconfigurePersistentStoreCoordinatorForURL:storeURL ofType:fileType modelConfiguration:configuration storeOptions:storeOptions error:error]; }   Basically what's happening above is that it checks for the minimalTime.sqlite file inside the app's bundle on the iOS device.  If the file exists, it tells you inside the console, and then tells the fileManager to replace the storeURL (inside the method parameter) with the legacy URL. This basically gives your app access to all the existing data the user has generated (otherwise they would load into a blank app, which would be disastrous). It returns a YES if successful (by calling it's [super] method). Final step: Actually load this database Due to how my app works, I actually have to load the database at launch (instead of shortly after, which would be ideal). I call a method called loadDatabase, which looks like this: -(void)loadDatabase {     static dispatch_once_t onceToken;          // Only do this once!     dispatch_once(&onceToken, ^{         // Get the URL         // The minimalTimeDB name is just something I call it         NSURL *url = [[selfapplicationDocumentsDirectory] URLByAppendingPathComponent:@"minimalTimeDB"];         // Init the TimeTagModel (our custom class we wrote above) with the URL         self.timeTagDB = [[TimeTagModel alloc] initWithFileURL:url];           // Setup the undo manager if it's nil         if (self.timeTagDB.undoManager == nil){             NSUndoManager *undoManager = [[NSUndoManager  alloc] init];             [self.timeTagDB setUndoManager:undoManager];         }                  // You have to actually check to see if it exists already (for some reason you can't just call "open it, and if it's not there, create it")         if ([[NSFileManagerdefaultManager] fileExistsAtPath:[url path]]) {             // If it does exist, try to open it, and if it doesn't open, let the user (or at least you) know!             [self.timeTagDB openWithCompletionHandler:^(BOOL success){                 if (!success) {                     // Handle the error.                     NSLog(@"Error opening up the database");                 }                 else{                     NSLog(@"Opened the file--it already existed");                     [self refreshData];                 }             }];         }         else {             // If it doesn't exist, you need to attempt to create it             [self.timeTagDBsaveToURL:url forSaveOperation:UIDocumentSaveForCreatingcompletionHandler:^(BOOL success){                 if (!success) {                     // Handle the error.                     NSLog(@"Error opening up the database");                 }                 else{                     NSLog(@"Created the file--it did not exist");                     [self refreshData];                 }             }];         }     }); }   If you're curious what refreshData looks like, it sends out a NSNotification that the database has been loaded: -(void)refreshData {     NSNotification* refreshNotification = [NSNotificationnotificationWithName:kNotificationCenterRefreshAllDatabaseData object:self.timeTagDB.managedObjectContext  userInfo:nil];     [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] postNotification:refreshNotification];     }   The kNotificationCenterRefreshAllDatabaseData is just a constant I have defined elsewhere that keeps track of all the NSNotification names I use. I pass the managedObjectContext of the newly created file so that my view controllers can have access to it, and start passing it around to one another. The reason we do this as a Notification is because this is being run in the background, so we can't know exactly when it finishes. Make sure you design your app for this! Have some kind of loading indicator, or make sure your user can't attempt to create a record before the database actually exists, because it will crash the app.

  • sqlite3_prepare_v2 throws SQLITE_ERROR in iPhone code

    - by incognitii
I have a piece of code that used to work, and other iterations of it that DO work within the same app, and have compared code, and they are identical in structure. This is driving me INSANE!!!!!! In this instance, sqlite3_prepare_v2 is throwing one of those useless SQLITE_ERROR exceptions. Apparently, it can FIND the database, and OPEN the database, but it can't prepare a statement for it. Does ANYONE have any ideas? I'm desperate here. second_maindatabaseName = @"database.db"; NSArray *documentPaths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDir = [documentPaths objectAtIndex:0]; second_maindatabasePath = [documentsDir stringByAppendingPathComponent:second_maindatabaseName]; // Setup the database object sqlite3 *database; // Init the entry requirements Array BOOL success; NSFileManager *fileManager = [NSFileManager defaultManager]; success = [fileManager fileExistsAtPath:second_maindatabasePath]; if(!success) { NSString *databasePathFromApp = [[[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath] stringByAppendingPathComponent:second_maindatabaseName]; [fileManager copyItemAtPath:databasePathFromApp toPath:second_maindatabasePath error:nil]; [fileManager release]; } if(sqlite3_open([second_maindatabasePath UTF8String], &database) == SQLITE_OK) { NSUserDefaults *defaults = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; value1 = [defaults stringForKey:kConst1]; value2 = [defaults stringForKey:kConst2]; value3 = [defaults stringForKey:kConst3]; value4 = [defaults stringForKey:kConst4]; const char *sqlStatement = "SELECT * FROM myTable WHERE Field1 = ? I'm getting my data ,with several similar methods, from sqlite3 file like in following code: -(NSMutableArray *) getCountersByID:(NSString *) championID{ NSMutableArray *arrayOfCounters; arrayOfCounters = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; @try { NSFileManager *fileManager = [NSFileManager defaultManager]; NSString *databasePath = [[[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath ]stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"DatabaseCounters.sqlite"]; BOOL success = [fileManager fileExistsAtPath:databasePath]; if (!success) { NSLog(@"cannot connect to Database! at filepath %@",databasePath); } else{ NSLog (@"SUCCESS getCountersByID!!"); } if(sqlite3_open([databasePath UTF8String], &database) == SQLITE_OK){ NSString *tempString = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"SELECT COUNTER_ID FROM COUNTERS WHERE CHAMPION_ID = %@",championID]; const char *sql = [tempString cStringUsingEncoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding]; sqlite3_stmt *sqlStatement; int ret = sqlite3_prepare(database, sql, -1, &sqlStatement, NULL); if (ret != SQLITE_OK) { NSLog(@"Error calling sqlite3_prepare: %d", ret); } if(sqlite3_prepare_v2(database, sql, -1, &sqlStatement, NULL) == SQLITE_OK){ while (sqlite3_step(sqlStatement)==SQLITE_ROW) { counterList *CounterList = [[counterList alloc]init]; CounterList.counterID = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:(char *) sqlite3_column_text(sqlStatement,0)]; [arrayOfCounters addObject:CounterList]; } } else{ NSLog(@"problem with database prepare"); } sqlite3_finalize(sqlStatement); } else{ NSLog(@"problem with database openning %s",sqlite3_errmsg(database)); } } @catch (NSException *exception){ NSLog(@"An exception occured: %@", [exception reason]); } @finally{ sqlite3_close(database); return arrayOfCounters; } //end } then i'm getting access to data with this and other similar lines of code: myCounterList *MyCounterList = [[myCounterList alloc] init]; countersTempArray = [MyCounterList getCountersByID:"2"]; [countersArray addObject:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@",(((counterList *) [countersTempArray objectAtIndex:i]).counterID)]]; I'm getting a lot of data like image name and showing combination of them that depends on users input with such code: UIImage *tempImage = [UIImage imageNamed:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@_0.jpg",[countersArray objectAtIndex:0]]]; [championSelection setBackgroundImage:tempImage forState:UIControlStateNormal]; My problem: When i'm run my app for some time and get a lot of data it throws error: " problem with database openning unable to open database file - error = 24 (Too many open files)" My guess is that i'm opening my database every time when getCountersByID is called but not closing it. My question: Am i using right approach to open and close database that i use? Similar questions that have not helped me to solve this problem: unable to open database Sqlite Opening Error : Unable to open database UPDATE: I made assumption that error is showing up because i use this lines of code too much: NSFileManager *fileManager = [NSFileManager defaultManager]; NSString *databasePath = [[[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath ]stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"DatabaseCounters.sqlite"]; BOOL success = [fileManager fileExistsAtPath:databasePath]; and ending up with error 24. So i made them global but sqlite3_errmsg shows same err 24, but app runs much faster now I'll try to debug my app, see what happens

  • iPhone: Can access files in documents directory in Simulator, but not device

    - by Kevin Cupp
    Hi there! I'm writing an app that copies some contents of the bundle into the applications Document's directory, mainly images and media. I then access this media throughout the app from the Document's directory. This works totally fine in the Simulator, but not on the device. The assets just come up as null. I've done NSLog's and the paths to the files look correct, and I've confirmed that the files exist in the directory by dumping a file listing in the console. Any ideas? Thank you! EDIT Here's the code that copies to the Document's directory NSString *pathToPublicationDirectory = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"install/%d",[[[manifest objectAtIndex:i] valueForKey:@"publicationID"] intValue]]; NSString *manifestPath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"content" ofType:@"xml" inDirectory:pathToPublicationDirectory]; [self parsePublicationAt:manifestPath]; // Get actual bundle path to publication folder NSString *bundlePath = [[[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath] stringByAppendingPathComponent:pathToPublicationDirectory]; // Then build the destination path NSString *destinationPath = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", [[[manifest objectAtIndex:i] valueForKey:@"publicationID"] intValue]]]; NSError *error = nil; // If it already exists in the documents directory, delete it if ([fileManager fileExistsAtPath:destinationPath]) { [fileManager removeItemAtPath:destinationPath error:&error]; } // Copy publication folder to documents directory [fileManager copyItemAtPath:bundlePath toPath:destinationPath error:&error]; I am figuring out the path to the docs directory with this method: - (NSString *)applicationDocumentsDirectory { return [NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES) objectAtIndex:0]; } And here's an example of how I'm building a path to an image path = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@/%d/%@", [self applicationDocumentsDirectory], [[thisItem valueForKey:@"publicationID"] intValue], [thisItem valueForKey:@"coverImage"]];
