  • Where to get glib-config for Kubuntu?

    - by Carl Smotricz
    I'm trying to compile Midnight Commander on a KUbuntu 9.10 (Karmic) box with no root access. I've set up a directory under $HOME, downloaded the mc source package and various stuff required for building, such as autotools. I've unpacked the CONTENTS of all those packages into this working directory such that I have the usual ./usr, ./lib, ./etc hierarchy. I manage to get configure through a lot of tests, but I can't seem to fool it into finding glib. checking for glib-2.0... checking for glib-config... no checking for glib12-config... no checking for glib-config... no checking for GLIB - version >= 1.2.6... no *** The glib-config script installed by GLIB could not be found *** If GLIB was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in *** your path, or set the GLIB_CONFIG environment variable to the *** full path to glib-config. configure: error: Test for glib failed. GNU Midnight Commander requires glib 1.2.6 or above. My system has glib installed: /lib/libglib-2.0.so.0 /lib/libglib-2.0.so.0.2200.3 ... and I've also downloaded and unpacked the glib package into my working directory: libglib2.0-0_2.22.2-0ubuntu1_i386.deb libglib2.0-dev_2.22.2-0ubuntu1_i386.deb ... but still the elusive glib-config is nowhere to be found. It's not in any debian package for Karmic, either. So I'd appreciate any help getting over this hurdle. Please note, again, that I don't have root, so I can't just merrily apt-get stuff.

  • Building gstreamer_ndk_bundle problems

    - by Cipi
    I'm trying to build gstreamer_ndk_bundle under Ubuntu 12.4 and I'm failing miserably! I have installed all "glib-dev" packages (packages that in their name have glib and dev), and also I have tried to compile/install glib 2.33.1 (latest) from source, but I always get this error: /home/marko/gstreamer_ndk_bundle/jni/../glib/gobject/gmarshal.c:149: undefined reference to `g_value_get_schar' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [/home/marko/gstreamer_ndk_bundle/obj/local/armeabi/libgobject-2.0.so] Error 1 This means that glib source doesn't have the definition for g_value_get_schar, and since that function was introduced in glib somewhere after version 2.30.0, my guess is that I am not using proper glib! I tried to force gstremaer_ndk_bundle to build with sources from the folder /home/marko/glib-2.33.1/ which I compiled/installed by exporting these env vars: GLIB_GENMARSHAL=/home/marko/glib-2.33.1/gobject/glib-genmarshal GLIB_COMPILE_SCHEMAS=/home/marko/glib-2.33.1/gio/glib-compile-schemas Also I changed gmarshal.h so it includes gmarshal.h from the installed glib folder: #ifndef _marko_glib_loaded #define _marko_glib_loaded #include "/home/marko/glib-2.33.1/gobject/gmarshal.h" #endif But failed in both cases. How can I know what glib is used while compiling gstreamer and install the proper one? How can I force gstreamer_ndk_bundle to use glib sources from the folder I have un-tared/configured/installed and not the system ones, or whatever ones it uses? I read somewhere that I need gstreamer-devel package if I keep getting this error while compiling. Where can I find that package?! Can't Google it out... Has anyone EVER built gstreamer_ndk_bundle and lived to tell the tale?

  • web.config overrides app.config...why?

    - by vikp
    Hi, I have to DLLs: one with a web.config, another one with app.config I moved the connection strings from web.config to app.config so that it can be used by other DLLs. Now, when I call ConfigurationManager.GetSection("SomeSection") , the application looks for a web.config, when it should be looking for the app.config. It doesn't make sense why it does it because web.config is in a separate DLL. Can anybody explain this please?

  • How to create a GLib.TimeVal from timestamp?

    - by fluteflute
    I have a value such as 'timestamp' below, where the last three digits correspond to milliseconds. timestamp = 1340830988768 I currently have code that looks like the following: import indicate indicator = indicate.Indicator() indicator.set_property_time("time", int(timestamp[:-3])) I want to amend it to use: from gi.repository import Indicate indicator = Indicate.Indicator() However, the new version of set_property_time requires the second parameter to be a GLib.TimeVal. How do I create a GLib.TimeVal from my timestamp? Millisecond precision is not important for this application.

  • Need help implementing simple socket server using GIOService (GLib, Glib-GIO)

    - by Mark Renouf
    I'm learning the basics of writing a simple, efficient socket server using GLib. I'm experimenting with GSocketService. So far I can only seem to accept connections but then they are immediately closed. From the docs I can't figure out what step I am missing. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this for me. • glib2 64-bit compile fails on Solaris 10

    - by Aaron
    I'm encountering a problem building glib-2.26.1 on a Solaris 10 box - 64-bit. Goo diligence doesn't turn anything up, but no matter what I do the build fails in the same way. • can't increment Glib::ustring::iterator (getting "invalid lvalue in increment" compiler error)

    - by davka
    in the following code: int utf8len(char* s, int len) { Glib::ustring::iterator p( string::iterator(s) ); Glib::ustring::iterator e ( string::iterator(s+len) ); int i=0; for (; p != e; p++) // ERROR HERE! i++; return i; } I get the compiler error on the for line, which is sometimes "invalid lvalue in increment", and sometimes "ISO C++ forbids incrementing a pointer of type etc... ". Yet, the follwing code: int utf8len(char* s) { Glib::ustring us(s); int i=0; for (Glib::ustring::iterator p = us.begin(); p != us.end(); p++) i++; return i; } compiles and works fine. according the Glib::ustring documentation and the include file, ustring iterator can be constructed from std::string iterator, and has operator++() defined. Weird? BONUS QUESTION :) Is there a difference in C++ between the 2 ways of defining a variable: classname ob1( initval ); classname ob1 = initval; I believed that they are synonymous; yet, if I change Glib::ustring::iterator p( string::iterator(s) ); to Glib::ustring::iterator p = string::iterator(s); I get a compiler error (gcc 4.1.2) conversion from ‘__gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator, std::allocator ’ to non-scalar type ‘Glib::ustring_Iterator<__gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator, std::allocator ’ requesed thanks a lot!

  • How to compile a program which needs a newer version of glib

    - by michael
    Hi, I am trying to compile Webkit on Ubuntu 8.04. But when i run autogen.sh, I get the following error saying it needs a newer version of glib. So what is the safest way to install glib without screwing up the rest of my OS (since the rest needs 2.16 while webkit compile needs 2.21)? checking for GLIB... configure: error: Package requirements (glib-2.0 >= 2.21.3 gobject-2.0 >= 2.0 gthread-2.0 >= 2.0) were not met: Requested 'glib-2.0 >= 2.21.3' but version of GLib is 2.16.6 Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you installed software in a non-standard prefix. Alternatively, you may set the environment variables GLIB_CFLAGS and GLIB_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config. See the pkg-config man page for more details.

  • Monitoring UDP socket in glib(mm) eats up CPU time

    - by Gyorgy Szekely
    Hi, I have a GTKmm Windows application (built with MinGW) that receives UDP packets (no sending). The socket is native winsock and I use glibmm IOChannel to connect it to the application main loop. The socket is read with recvfrom. My problem is: this setup eats 25% percent CPU time on a 3GHz workstation. Can somebody tell me why? The application is idle in this case, and if I remove the UDP code, CPU usage drops down to almost zero. As the application has to perform some CPU intensive tasks, I could image better ways to spend that 25% Here are some code excerpts: (sorry for the printf's ;) ) /* bind */ void UDPInterface::bindToPort(unsigned short port) { struct sockaddr_in target; WSADATA wsaData; target.sin_family = AF_INET; target.sin_port = htons(port); target.sin_addr.s_addr = 0; if ( WSAStartup ( 0x0202, &wsaData ) ) { printf("WSAStartup failed!\n"); exit(0); // :) WSACleanup(); } sock = socket( AF_INET, SOCK_DGRAM, 0 ); if (sock == INVALID_SOCKET) { printf("invalid socket!\n"); exit(0); } if (bind(sock,(struct sockaddr*) &target, sizeof(struct sockaddr_in) ) == SOCKET_ERROR) { printf("failed to bind to port!\n"); exit(0); } printf("[UDPInterface::bindToPort] listening on port %i\n", port); } /* read */ bool UDPInterface::UDPEvent(Glib::IOCondition io_condition) { recvfrom(sock, (char*)buf, BUF_SIZE*4, 0, NULL, NULL); /* process packet... */ } /* glibmm connect */ Glib::RefPtr channel = Glib::IOChannel::create_from_win32_socket(udp.sock); Glib::signal_io().connect( sigc::mem_fun(udp, &UDPInterface::UDPEvent), channel, Glib::IO_IN ); I've read here in some other question, and also in glib docs (g_io_channel_win32_new_socket()) that the socket is put into nonblocking mode, and it's "a side-effect of the implementation and unavoidable". Does this explain the CPU effect, it's not clear to me? Whether or not I use glib to access the socket or call recvfrom() directly doesn't seem to make much difference, since CPU is used up before any packet arrives and the read handler gets invoked. Also glibmm docs state that it's ok to call recvfrom() even if the socket is polled (Glib::IOChannel::create_from_win32_socket()) I've tried compiling the program with -pg and created a per function cpu usage report with gprof. This wasn't usefull because the time is not spent in my program, but in some external glib/glibmm dll.

  • Undefined reference to 'glib'

    I would like to parse a config file using glib in Codeblocks which I use. So I want to do exactly the example which is described here first. I have a file named myconfig.cfg and and a code programming.c. I just copy and paste the code to see if glib works but unfortunately it does not work. I did the installation of glib2.0 using sudo apt-get, I found where are the libs in glibs using pkg-config --cflags --libs glib-2.0 and in this path project->Build Options->Compiler Settings-> Other Options I added -I/usr/include/glib-2.0 -I/usr/lib/arm-linuxgnuebihf/glib-2.0/include When I build and run the programming.c I have these errors -------------- Build: Debug in programming --------------- gcc -Wall -g -I/usr/include/glib-2.0 -I/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/glib-2.0/include -std=c99 -c /home/pi/Desktop/programming/main.c -o obj/Debug/main.o g++ -o bin/Debug/programming obj/Debug/main.o /usr/lib/libmysqlclient.so.16 obj/Debug/main.o: In function `main': /home/pi/Desktop/programming/main.c:22: undefined reference to `g_key_file_new' /home/pi/Desktop/programming/main.c:26: undefined reference to `g_key_file_load_from_file' /home/pi/Desktop/programming/main.c:28: undefined reference to `g_log' /home/pi/Desktop/programming/main.c:34: undefined reference to `g_slice_alloc' /home/pi/Desktop/programming/main.c:37: undefined reference to `g_key_file_get_string' /home/pi/Desktop/programming/main.c:39: undefined reference to `g_key_file_get_locale_string' /home/pi/Desktop/programming/main.c:41: undefined reference to `g_key_file_get_boolean_list' /home/pi/Desktop/programming/main.c:43: undefined reference to `g_key_file_get_integer_list' /home/pi/Desktop/programming/main.c:45: undefined reference to `g_key_file_get_string_list' /home/pi/Desktop/programming/main.c:47: undefined reference to `g_key_file_get_integer' /home/pi/Desktop/programming/main.c:49: undefined reference to `g_key_file_get_double_list' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status Process terminated with status 1 (0 minutes, 6 seconds) 11 errors, 0 warnings Am I missing something? • Web.Config is Cached

    - by SGWellens
    There was a question from a student over on the Asp.Net forums about improving site performance. The concern was that every time an app setting was read from the Web.Config file, the disk would be accessed. With many app settings and many users, it was believed performance would suffer. Their intent was to create a class to hold all the settings, instantiate it and fill it from the Web.Config file on startup. Then, all the settings would be in RAM. I knew this was not correct and didn't want to just say so without any corroboration, so I did some searching. Surprisingly, this is a common misconception. I found other code postings that cached the app settings from Web.Config. Many people even thanked the posters for the code. In a later post, the student said their text book recommended caching the Web.Config file. OK, here's the deal. The Web.Config file is already cached. You do not need to re-cache it. From this article http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa478432.aspx It is important to realize that the entire <appSettings> section is read, parsed, and cached the first time we retrieve a setting value. From that point forward, all requests for setting values come from an in-memory cache, so access is quite fast and doesn't incur any subsequent overhead for accessing the file or parsing the XML. The reason the misconception is prevalent may be because it's hard to search for Web.Config and cache without getting a lot of hits on how to setup caching in the Web.Config file. So here's a string for search engines to index on: "Is the Web.Config file Cached?" A follow up question was, are the connection strings cached? Yes. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms178683.aspx At run time, ASP.NET uses the Web.Config files to hierarchically compute a unique collection of configuration settings for each incoming URL request. These settings are calculated only once and then cached on the server. And, as everyone should know, if you modify the Web.Config file, the web application will restart. I hope this helps people to NOT write code! Steve WellensCodeProject

  • Portable C Compiler (pcc) with GTK+ in Code::Blocks

    I had some problems when trying to compile a GTK+ program with Portable C Compiler (pcc) using Code::Blocks in Windows. When I tried to build the default GTK+ project in Code::Blocks, I get these errors: -------------- Build: Debug in cb-temp2 --------------- Compiling: main.c C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gutils.h, line 423: parameter 'glib_major_version' not defined C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gutils.h, line 424: function declaration in bad context C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gutils.h, line 424: parameter '__declspec' not defined C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gutils.h, line 424: parse error C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gutils.h, line 425: redeclaration of __declspec C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gutils.h, line 425: parameter 'glib_micro_version' not defined C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gutils.h, line 426: function declaration in bad context C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gutils.h, line 426: parameter '__declspec' not defined C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gutils.h, line 426: parse error C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gutils.h, line 427: redeclaration of __declspec C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gutils.h, line 427: parameter 'glib_binary_age' not defined C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gutils.h, line 431: parameter 'glib_check_version' not defined C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gatomic.h, line 42: parameter 'g_atomic_int_exchange_and_add' not defined C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gatomic.h, line 44: parameter 'g_atomic_int_add' not defined C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gatomic.h, line 47: parameter 'g_atomic_int_compare_and_exchange' not defined C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gatomic.h, line 50: parameter 'g_atomic_pointer_compare_and_exchange' not defined C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gatomic.h, line 52: parameter 'g_atomic_int_get' not defined C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gatomic.h, line 54: parameter 'g_atomic_int_set' not defined C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gatomic.h, line 55: parameter 'g_atomic_pointer_get' not defined C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gatomic.h, line 57: parameter 'g_atomic_pointer_set' not defined C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gthread.h, line 44: parameter 'g_thread_error_quark' not defined C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gthread.h, line 50: parameter 'GThreadError' not defined C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gthread.h, line 52: parameter 'GThreadFunc' not defined C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gthread.h, line 60: parameter 'GThreadPriority' not defined C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gthread.h, line 62: parameter 'GThread' not defined C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gthread.h, line 66: parse error C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gthread.h, line 66: invalid function definition C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gthread.h, line 66: function illegal in structure or union C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gthread.h, line 66: invalid function definition C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gthread.h, line 66: function illegal in structure or union C:\CMPITG\gtk\include\glib-2.0/glib/gthread.h, line 67: cannot recover from earlier errors: goodbye! • IIS7 Handler Mapping Migration from Sites Config to Server Config [migrated]

    - by Danomite
    We have a bunch of sites running with about 8 handler mappings in their web.config files. Unfortunately, they were getting copied site to site every time a new one was added. Now the time has come for me to get these out of all the web.config's and get them into the server's Handler Mappings. If I add the mapping to the the server while it still exists in the web.config, IIS throws an error when you browse to the site. I have a few dozen web.config's to edit here with about 10 mappings in each. Is there a way to add these mappings to the server without having to go in an edit each web.config file manually? Otherwise, every site will be down for a few minutes while I go into each file and remove the handlers. Thanks!
