• Microsoft Web Farm Framework 502 error

  My apologies if this is a really stupid question, but I have installed and set up the new Microsoft Web Farm Framework in a UAT environment with a controller machine, a primary, and a secondary server. I have installed one of our in-house applications on to the primary server and it has been successfully provisioned across to the secondary. I have tried accessing the server via the url http:\mis-uat-002\testfarm\reviewer where mis-uat-002 is the name of the farm controller, testfarm is the name of the farm, and reviewer is the name of the application. When using this url I get a "502 - Web server received an invalid response while acting as a gateway or proxy server." error. If I access the application directly via http:\mis-uat-003\reviewer (mis-uat-003 is the primary farm server, reviewer is the application) then it works no problem. Is there some additional set up that needs to be done in order for the farm controller to do its job? It should be noted that this is a UAT environment so is not on a domain of any sort. However, if this was successful and the WFF came out with V1.0 fairly soon, we would be looking to run this on a Windows 2008 domain.

• SQL Server suddenly using only a small portion of CPU.

  We've got a Windows 2008 R2 server running SQL Server 2008. All of a sudden, the SQLServer process is refusing to go above 20% CPU usage. As of last week, when running a heavy query against the db it would rise to 100% usage as I would expect. We've had this server for a while and it seems strange that it would just suddenly have this limit. This limit is causing our queries to take a lot longer than they normally would. No one has (knowingly at least) made any changes to the server configuration. After a bit of investigation, I discovered the sys.dm_os_sys_memory view. This shows 'available physical memory is high' bu at the same time the available physical memory is 339552kb where as the total is 4193848kb. It is worth noting that this is a virtual server running on vmware. Is there a setting somewhere with in SQL Server that sets the maximum CPU usage? I've found the settings in resource governor, although this is currently off as it always has been. We have recently started using Spotlight for SQL Server by Quest Software. It's playback database was located on this server for a short time this morning, I first noticed the problem shortly afterwards, although I hadn't been doing any queries prior to this so I don't know if this is the point at which the problem began, however the database was working as expected on Friday afternoon. • ASP.Net MVC2 DropDownListFor

  Hi all I am trying to learn MVC2, C# and Linq to Entities all in one project (yes, I am mad) and I am experiencing some problems with DropDownListFor and passing the SelectList to it. This is the code in my controller: public ActionResult Create() { var Methods = te.Methods.Select(a => a); List<SelectListItem> MethodList = new List<SelectListItem>(); foreach (Method me in Methods) { SelectListItem sli=new SelectListItem(); sli.Text = me.Description; sli.Value = me.method_id.ToString(); MethodList.Add(sli); } ViewData["MethodList"] = MethodList.AsEnumerable(); Talkback tb = new Talkback(); return View(tb); } and I am having troubles trying to get the DropDownListFor to take the MethodList in ViewData. When I try: <%:Html.DropDownListFor(model => model.method_id,new SelectList("MethodList","method_id","Description",Model.method_id)) %> It errors out with the following message DataBinding: 'System.Char' does not contain a property with the name 'method_id'. I know why this is, as it is taking MethodList as a string, but I can't figure out how to get it to take the SelectList. If I do the following with a normal DropDownList: <%: Html.DropDownList("MethodList") %> It is quite happy with this. Can anyone help?

• VB.Net Dynamically Load DLL

  I am trying to write some code that will allow me to dynamically load DLLs into my application, depending on an application setting. The idea is that the database to be accessed is set in the application settings and then this loads the appropriate DLL and assigns it to an instance of an interface for my application to access. This is my code at the moment: Dim SQLDataSource As ICRDataLayer Dim ass As Assembly = Assembly. _ LoadFrom("M:\MyProgs\WebService\DynamicAssemblyLoading\SQLServer\bin\Debug\SQLServer.dll") Dim obj As Object = ass.CreateInstance(GetType(ICRDataLayer).ToString, True) SQLDataSource = DirectCast(obj, ICRDataLayer) MsgBox(SQLDataSource.ModuleName & vbNewLine & SQLDataSource.ModuleDescription) I have my interface (ICRDataLayer) and the SQLServer.dll contains an implementation of this interface. I just want to load the assembly and assign it to the SQLDataSource object. The above code just doesn't work. There are no exceptions thrown, even the Msgbox doesn't appear. I would've expected at least the messagebox appearing with nothing in it, but even this doesn't happen! Is there a way to determine if the loaded assembly implements a specific interface. I tried the below but this also doesn't seem to do anything! • ASP.Net MVC Object Reference in Edit View when using DropDownListFor()

  This question is related to another I ask recently, it can be found here for some background information. Here is the code in the Edit ActionResult: public virtual ActionResult Edit(int id) { ///Set data for DropDownLists. ViewData["MethodList"] = tr.ListMethods(); ViewData["GenderList"] = tr.ListGenders(); ViewData["FocusAreaList"] = tr.ListFocusAreas(); ViewData["SiteList"] = tr.ListSites(); ViewData["TypeList"] = tr.ListTalkbackTypes(); ViewData["CategoryList"] = tr.ListCategories(); return View(tr.GetTalkback(id)); } I add lists to the ViewData to use in the dropdownlists, these are all IEnumerable and are all returning values. GetTalkback() returns an Entity framework object of type Talkback which is generated from the Talkback table. The DropDownListFor code is: <%: Html.DropDownListFor(model=>model.method_id,new SelectList(ViewData["MethodList"] as IEnumerable<SelectListItem>,"Value","Text",Model.method_id)) %> The record I am viewing has values in all fields. When I click submit on the View, I get an Object reference not set to an instance of an object. error on the above line. There are a number of standard fields in the form prior to this, so the error is only occurring on dropdown lists, and it is occurring on all of them. Any ideas? This is my first foray in to MVC, C#, and Entity so I am completely lost!

  I have got an Entity model which contains a collection of Message objects which are of the type Message which has several properties, including content, MessageID, from, and to. I have created an EditorTemplate for type Message, however, I cannot get it to display the contents of the Messages collection. There are no errors, but nothing is output. Please note that the view code is from an EditorTemplate for the parent Talkback class. Can you have an EditorTemplate calling another EditorTemplate for a child collection? Both the Talkback and Message class are generated by Entity framework from an existing database.
