  • Hibernate entities stored as HttpSession attribute values

    - by njudge
I'm dealing with a legacy Java application with a large, fairly messy codebase. There's a fairly standard 'User' object that gets stored in the HttpSession between requests, so the servlets do stuff like this at the top: HttpSession session = request.getSession(true); User user = (User)session.getAttribute("User"); The old user authentication layer (which I won't describe; suffice to say, it did not use a database) is being replaced with code mapped to the DB with Hibernate. So 'User' is now a Hibernate entity. My understanding of Hibernate object life cycles is a little fuzzy, but it seems like storing 'User' in the HttpSession now becomes a problem, because it will be retrieved in a different transaction during the next request. What is the right thing to be doing here? Can I just use the Hibernate Session object's update() method to reattach the User instance the next time around? Do I need to?

  • Provider<HttpSession> not getting injected

    - by user1033715
I am using gwt dispatch to communicate and get data from server to client. In order to get user specific data I want to store the user object in httpsession and access application specific data from servlet context but when I inject Provider<HttpSession> when the handler execute is called but the dispatchservlet the provider is null i.e it does not get injected. following is the code from my action handler @Inject Provider<HttpSession> provider; public ReadEntityHandler() { } @Override public EntityResult execute(ReadEntityAction arg0, ExecutionContext arg1) throws DispatchException { HttpSession session = null; if (provider == null) System.out.println("httpSession is null.."); else { session = provider.get(); System.out.println("httpSession not null.."); } System.out.println("reached execution"); return null; } and my Dispatch servlet @Singleton public class ActionDispatchServlet extends RemoteServiceServlet implements StandardDispatchService { private Dispatch dispatch; public ActionDispatchServlet() { InstanceActionHandlerRegistry registry = new DefaultActionHandlerRegistry(); registry.addHandler(new ReadEntityHandler()); dispatch = new SimpleDispatch(registry); } @Override public Result execute(Action<?> action) throws DispatchException { try { return dispatch.execute(action); } catch (RuntimeException e) { log("Exception while executing " + action.getClass().getName() + ": " + e.getMessage(), e); throw e; } } } when I try to inject the ReadEntityHandler it throws the following exception [WARN] failed guiceFilter com.google.inject.ProvisionException: Guice provision errors: 1) Error injecting constructor, java.lang.NullPointerException at com.ensarm.wikirealty.server.service.ActionDispatchServlet.<init>(ActionDispatchServlet.java:22) at com.ensarm.wikirealty.server.service.ActionDispatchServlet.class(ActionDispatchServlet.java:22) while locating com.ensarm.wikirealty.server.service.ActionDispatchServlet 1 error at com.google.inject.internal.InjectorImpl$4.get(InjectorImpl.java:834) at com.google.inject.internal.InjectorImpl.getInstance(InjectorImpl.java:856) at com.google.inject.servlet.ServletDefinition.init(ServletDefinition.java:74) at com.google.inject.servlet.ManagedServletPipeline.init(ManagedServletPipeline.java:84) at com.google.inject.servlet.ManagedFilterPipeline.initPipeline(ManagedFilterPipeline.java:106) at com.google.inject.servlet.GuiceFilter.init(GuiceFilter.java:168) at org.mortbay.jetty.servlet.FilterHolder.doStart(FilterHolder.java:97) at org.mortbay.component.AbstractLifeCycle.start(AbstractLifeCycle.java:39) at org.mortbay.jetty.servlet.ServletHandler.initialize(ServletHandler.java:593) at org.mortbay.jetty.servlet.Context.startContext(Context.java:140) at org.mortbay.jetty.webapp.WebAppContext.startContext(WebAppContext.java:1220) at org.mortbay.jetty.handler.ContextHandler.doStart(ContextHandler.java:513) at org.mortbay.jetty.webapp.WebAppContext.doStart(WebAppContext.java:448) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.jetty.JettyLauncher$WebAppContextWithReload.doStart(JettyLauncher.java:468) at org.mortbay.component.AbstractLifeCycle.start(AbstractLifeCycle.java:39) at org.mortbay.jetty.handler.HandlerWrapper.doStart(HandlerWrapper.java:130) at org.mortbay.jetty.handler.RequestLogHandler.doStart(RequestLogHandler.java:115) at org.mortbay.component.AbstractLifeCycle.start(AbstractLifeCycle.java:39) at org.mortbay.jetty.handler.HandlerWrapper.doStart(HandlerWrapper.java:130) at org.mortbay.jetty.Server.doStart(Server.java:222) at org.mortbay.component.AbstractLifeCycle.start(AbstractLifeCycle.java:39) at com.google.gwt.dev.shell.jetty.JettyLauncher.start(JettyLauncher.java:672) at com.google.gwt.dev.DevMode.doStartUpServer(DevMode.java:509) at com.google.gwt.dev.DevModeBase.startUp(DevModeBase.java:1068) at com.google.gwt.dev.DevModeBase.run(DevModeBase.java:811) at com.google.gwt.dev.DevMode.main(DevMode.java:311) Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException at net.customware.gwt.dispatch.server.DefaultActionHandlerRegistry.addHandler(DefaultActionHandlerRegistry.java:21) at com.ensarm.wikirealty.server.service.ActionDispatchServlet.<init>(ActionDispatchServlet.java:24) at com.ensarm.wikirealty.server.service.ActionDispatchServlet$$FastClassByGuice$$e0a28a5d.newInstance(<generated>) at com.google.inject.internal.cglib.reflect.FastConstructor.newInstance(FastConstructor.java:40) at com.google.inject.internal.DefaultConstructionProxyFactory$1.newInstance(DefaultConstructionProxyFactory.java:58) at com.google.inject.internal.ConstructorInjector.construct(ConstructorInjector.java:84) at com.google.inject.internal.ConstructorBindingImpl$Factory.get(ConstructorBindingImpl.java:200) at com.google.inject.internal.ProviderToInternalFactoryAdapter$1.call(ProviderToInternalFactoryAdapter.java:43) at com.google.inject.internal.InjectorImpl.callInContext(InjectorImpl.java:878) at com.google.inject.internal.ProviderToInternalFactoryAdapter.get(ProviderToInternalFactoryAdapter.java:40) at com.google.inject.Scopes$1$1.get(Scopes.java:64) at com.google.inject.internal.InternalFactoryToProviderAdapter.get(InternalFactoryToProviderAdapter.java:40) at com.google.inject.internal.InjectorImpl$4$1.call(InjectorImpl.java:825) at com.google.inject.internal.InjectorImpl.callInContext(InjectorImpl.java:871) at com.google.inject.internal.InjectorImpl$4.get(InjectorImpl.java:821) ... 25 more

  • Java: any problems/negative sides of keeping SoftReference to ArrayList in HttpSession?

    - by westla7
My code is doing the following (just as an example, and the reason that I specify package path to java.lang.ref.SoftReference is to note that it's not my own implementaiton :-): ... List<String> someData = new ArrayList<String>(); someData.add("Value1"); someData.add("Value2"); ... java.lang.ref.SoftReference softRef = new SoftReference(someData); ... HttpSession session = request.getSession(true); session.setAttribute("mySoftRefData", softRef); ... and later: ... java.lang.ref.SoftReference softRef = session.getAttribute("mySoftRefData"); if (softRef != null && softRef.get() != null) { List<String> someData = (List<String>)softRef.get(); // do something with it. } ... Any disadvantages? Which I do not see? Thank you!

  • Httpsession with Spring 3 MVC

    - by vipul12389
I want to use httpsession in Spring 3 MVC..i have searched all the web and got this solution..at http://forum.springsource.org/showthread.php?98850-Adding-to-stuff-to-the-session-while-using-ResponseBody Basically, My application auto authenticates user by getting winId and authorizes through LDAP..(Its a intranet site) Here is the flow of the application, 1. User enters Aplication url (http://localhost:8082/eIA_Mock_5) it has a welcome page (index.jsp) Index.jsp gets winId through jQuery and hits login.html (through Ajax) and passes windowsId login.html (Controller) authenticates through LDAP and gives back 'Valid' String as a response javascript, upon getting the correct response, redirects/loads welcome page i.e. goes to localhost:8082/eIA_Mock_5/welcome.html Now, i have filter associated with it..which checks for is session valid for each incoming request..Now the problem is even though i set data on to httpsession, yet the filter or any other controller fails to get the data through session as a result it doesnt proceeds further.. here is the code..and could you suggest what is wrong actually ?? Home_Controller.java @Controller public class Home_Controller { public static Log logger = LogFactory.getLog(Home_Controller.class); @RequestMapping(value={"/welcome"}) public ModelAndView loadWelcomePage(HttpServletRequest request,HttpServletResponse response) { ModelAndView mdv = new ModelAndView(); try{ /*HttpSession session = request.getSession(); UserMasterBean userBean = (UserMasterBean)session.getAttribute("userBean"); String userName=userBean.getWindowsId(); if(userName==null || userName.equalsIgnoreCase("")) { mdv.setViewName("homePage"); • Spring MVC 3.1 How to access HttpSession in Custom Authentication Provider (which implements AuthenticationProvider)

    - by user1506231
    My application calls a web service during the Authentication process (as shown in code below). How can I save some information in HttpSession during this process? This information like customer-account-number will be used in various other places in the application after the user is logged in. Is it possible to pass HttpSession parameter to the MyServiceManager's static login method? public class MyAuthenticationManager implements AuthenticationProvider { @Override public boolean supports(Class<? extends Object> authentication) { return authentication.equals(UsernamePasswordAuthenticationToken.class); } @Override public Authentication authenticate(Authentication authentication) { //MyServiceManager.login - makes a call to web service if(MyServiceManager.login(authentication.getName(), authentication.getCredentials().toString(), XXX_HTTP_SESSION_XXX)) { List<GrantedAuthority> authorities = new ArrayList<GrantedAuthority> (); authorities.add(new GrantedAuthorityImpl("ROLE_USER")); authorities.add(new GrantedAuthorityImpl("ROLE_SUPERVISOR")); return new UsernamePasswordAuthenticationToken(authentication.getName(), authentication.getCredentials(),authorities); } else { return null; } } }

  • Java: Tracking a user login session - Session EJBs vs HTTPSession

    - by bguiz
If I want to keep track of a conversational state with each client using my web application, which is the better alternative - a Session Bean or a HTTP Session - to use? Using HTTP Session: //request is a variable of the class javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest //UserState is a POJO HttpSession session = request.getSession(true); UserState state = (UserState)(session.getAttribute("UserState")); if (state == null) { //create default value .. } String uid = state.getUID(); //now do things with the user id Using Session EJB: In the implementation of ServletContextListener registered as a Web Application Listener in WEB-INF/web.xml: //UserState NOT a POJO this this time, it is //the interface of the UserStateBean Stateful Session EJB @EJB private UserState userStateBean; public void contextInitialized(ServletContextEvent sce) { ServletContext servletContext = sce.getServletContext(); servletContext.setAttribute("UserState", userStateBean); ... In a JSP: public void jspInit() { UserState state = (UserState)(getServletContext().getAttribute("UserState")); ... } Elsewhere in the body of the same JSP: String uid = state.getUID(); //now do things with the user id It seems to me that the they are almost the same, with the main difference being that the UserState instance is being transported in the HttpRequest.HttpSession in the former, and in a ServletContext in the case of the latter. Which of the two methods is more robust, and why?

  • HttpSession problem in Google App Engine/J

    - by Tahir Akram
I am writting a Twitter web app by using Twitter4J on GAE/J. I am saving Twitter and Request Token objects in session so that to be used after call back. I have two servlets. IndexServlet sets session and HomeServlet get from session (hits on call back by twitter oAuth). If I comment out session handling lines in both servlets then call backs works fine. Please suggest any workaround. I am sharing my code here. IndexServlet.java Twitter twitter = new Twitter(); twitter.setOAuthConsumer("<masked>", "<masked>"); RequestToken requestToken = null; try { requestToken = twitter.getOAuthRequestToken(); log.info("OAuth token has been taken"); } catch (TwitterException e) { log.warning(e.toString()); } HttpSession session = request.getSession(); if (session.getAttribute("twitter")==null){ session.setAttribute("twitter", twitter); out.println("-----------------------------> session is set"); } if (session.getAttribute("token")==null){ session.setAttribute("token", requestToken); out.println("-----------------------------> session is set"); } String authUrl = requestToken.getAuthorizationURL(); HomeServlet.java HttpSession session = request.getSession(); twitter = (Twitter)session.getAttribute("twitter"); r = (RequestToken)session.getAttribute("token"); twitter.setOAuthAccessToken(r.getAccessToken()); twitter.updateStatus("Hello World!"); Exception javax.servlet.ServletException: java.lang.ArrayStoreException: [Ljava.lang.String; at com.google.apphosting.runtime.jetty.AppVersionHandlerMap.handle(AppVersionHandlerMap.java:239) at org.mortbay.jetty.handler.HandlerWrapper.handle(HandlerWrapper.java:139) at org.mortbay.jetty.Server.handle(Server.java:313) at org.mortbay.jetty.HttpConnection.handleRequest(HttpConnection.java:506) at org.mortbay.jetty.HttpConnection$RequestHandler.headerComplete(HttpConnection.java:830) at com.google.apphosting.runtime.jetty.RpcRequestParser.parseAvailable(RpcRequestParser.java:76) at org.mortbay.jetty.HttpConnection.handle(HttpConnection.java:381) at com.google.apphosting.runtime.jetty.JettyServletEngineAdapter.serviceRequest(JettyServletEngineAdapter.java:139) at com.google.apphosting.runtime.JavaRuntime.handleRequest(JavaRuntime.java:235) at com.google.apphosting.base.RuntimePb$EvaluationRuntime$6.handleBlockingRequest(RuntimePb.java:4950) at com.google.apphosting.base.RuntimePb$EvaluationRuntime$6.handleBlockingRequest(RuntimePb.java:4948) at com.google.net.rpc.impl.BlockingApplicationHandler.handleRequest(BlockingApplicationHandler.java:24) at com.google.net.rpc.impl.RpcUtil.runRpcInApplication(RpcUtil.java:359) at com.google.net.rpc.impl.Server$2.run(Server.java:823) at com.google.tracing.LocalTraceSpanRunnable.run(LocalTraceSpanRunnable.java:56)

  • Does every browser open a new HTTPSession

    - by user496934
I am working on a webbased application which has JSP and servlets. In my application, I am binding some objects to sessions like the following code -- HttpSession session = p_req.getSession(); session.setAttribute(DOWNLOAD_With_WARNINGS, downloadMap); Later I am retrieving them using session.getAttribute. I would like to know if every time I open a new browser does it open a new HTTP session. Because , if I do a setAttribute with some value in one browser instance, that change is visible when I do a getAttribute using the other browser instance.

  • Mysterious HttpSession and session-config dependency

    - by OneMoreVladimir
Good day. I'm developing a Java web app with Servlets\JSP using Tomcat 7.0. During request from client I put and object into the session and use forward. After the forward processing the same request the object can be retreived if the secure parameter is false otherwise it is not stored in session. <session-config> <session-timeout>15</session-timeout> <cookie-config> <http-only>true</http-only> <secure>true</secure> </cookie-config> <tracking-mode>COOKIE</tracking-mode> </session-config> I've figured out that "...cookies can be created with the 'secure' flag, which ensures that the browser will never transmit the specified cookie over non-SSL...". I've configured Tomcat to use SSL, but that haven't helped. Changing the tracking mode to SSL haven't helped as well. How do session-config and HttpSession object correlate in this case? What could be the problem?

  • Amount of data stored in session

    - by srinannapa
What technique should we use to make the httpsession object not loaded heavily with data. Example : Request 1 ---- httpSession loaded with an arraylist of 50,000 different objects. session.setAttribute("data",arraylist); Request 2 ---- httpSession loaded with an arraylist of 40,000 different objects. session.setAttribute("data",arraylist); Assume the server is loaded heavily with multiple sessions and huge data in them. Let us say from my above example request1..1000 at a time. Which means 1000 session objects with huge data. What is the alternate way to solve instead storing them in session like this?

  • How to mock HTTPSession/FlexSession with TestNG and some Mocking Framework

    - by ifischer
I'm developing a web application running on Tomcat 6, with Flex as Frontend. I'm testing my backend with TestNG. Currently, I'm trying to test the following method in my Java-Backend: public UserPE login(String mail, String password) { UserPE dbuser = findUserByMail(mail); if (dbuser == null || !dbuser.getPassword().equals(password)) throw new RuntimeException("Invalid username and/or password"); // Save logged in user FlexSession session = FlexContext.getFlexSession(); session.setAttribute("user", dbuser); return dbuser; } The method needs access to the FlexContext which only exists when i run it on the Servlet container (don't bother if you don't know Flex, it's more a Java-Mocking question in general). Otherwise i get a Nullpointer exception when calling session.setAttribute(). Unfortunately, I cannot set the FlexContext from outside, which would make me able to set it from my tests. It's just obtained inside the method. What would be the best way to test this method with a Mocking framework, without changing the method or the class which includes the method? And which framework would be the easiest for this use case (there are hardly other things i have to mock in my app, it's pretty simple)? Sorry I could try out all of them for myself and see how i could get this to work, but i hope that i'll get a quickstart with some good advices!

  • multiple stateful iframes per page will overwrite JSESSIONID?

    - by Nikita
Hello, Looking for someone to either confirm or refute my theory that deploying two iframes pointing to two different stateful pages on the same domain can lead to JSESSIONIDs being overwritten. Here's what I mean: Setup suppose you have two pages that require HttpSession state (session affinity) to function correctly - deployed at http://www.foo.com/page1 and http://www.foo.com/page2 assume www.foo.com is a single host running a Tomcat (6.0.20, fwiw) that uses JSESSIONID for session id's. suppose these pages are turned into two iframe widgets to be embedded on 3rd party sites: http://www.site.com/page1" / (and /page2 respectively) suppose there a 3rd party site that wishes to place both widgets on the same page at http://www.bar.com/foowidgets.html Can the following race condition occur? a new visitor goes to http://www.bar.com/foowidgets.html browser starts loading URLs in foowidgets.html including the two iframe 'src' URLs because browsers open multiple concurrent connections against the same host (afaik up to 6 in chrome/ff case) the browser happens to simultaneously issue requests for http://www.foo.com/page1 and http://www.foo.com/page2 The tomcat @ foo.com receives both requests at about the same time, calls getSession() for the first time (on two different threads) and lazily creates two HttpSessions and, thus, two JSESSIONIDs, with values $Page1 and $Page2. The requests also stuff data into respective sessions (that data will be required to process subsequent requests) assume that the browser first receives response to the page1 request. Browser sets cookie JSESSIONID=$Page1 for HOST www.foo.com next response to the page2 request is received and the browser overwrites cookie JSESSIONID for HOST www.foo.com with $Page2 user clicks on something in 'page1' iframe on foowidgets.html; browser issues 2nd request to http://www.foo.com/page1?action=doSomethingStateful. That request carries JSESSIONID=$Page2 (and not $Page1 - because cookie value was overwritten) when foo.com receives this request it looks up the wrong HttpSession instance (because JSESSIONID key is $Page2 and NOT $Page1). Foobar! Can the above happen? I think so, but would appreciate a confirmation. If the above is clearly possible, what are some solutions given that we'd like to support multiple iframes per page? We don't have a firm need for the iframes to share the same HttpSession, though that would be nice. In the event that the solution will still stipulate a separate HttpSession per iframe, it is - of course - mandatory that iframe 1 does not end up referencing httpSession state for iframe 2 instead of own. off top of my head I can think of: map page1 and page2 to different domains (ops overhead) use URL rewriting and never cookies (messes up analytics) anything else? thanks a lot, -nikita

  • Ensure a new session every time the user connects to a Servlet

    - by Daziplqa
Hi, I've a JSP/Servlet Web App that consist of more than one servlet (and some JSPs) I need to create an new HttpSession whenever the users access servlet A, knowing that, servlet A is the home page (i.e. he access it as the first servlet/page in the application) so far so good, I can write the following code at the start of the servlet A: HttpSession session = request.getSession(false); if (session == null) { logger.debug("starting new session..."); session = request.getSession(); // other staff here } But the problem is, if the user didn't close his browser (even if he closes the tab - in firefox for instance - the session will still be open), so when he try to open my site again, the last session will be re-used (in the rage of session timeout ofcourse), and this I don't need. I need whenever he access Servlet A, he got created a brand new HttpSession. but unfortunately, he may access this servlet twice per session based on some scenario!! Please help.

  • Is it possible to configure a Spring session scoped bean with attributes from the session?

    - by Dave G
I'm trying to create a service bean that when referenced will be initialized with HttpSession based attributes. Let's say for sake of argument that my webapp would do the following: Establish a session Request login & password When service is requested (it is scope="session" and has init-method="init()") a new instance is created for the session. In the init method, can I reference the HttpSession either through passing it in as a parameter and referencing it by EL? Any ideas on this would be appreciated.

Hi, I am trying to implement HttpSessionListener so that users of this listener can register implementation of ISessionEvent interface to session Events.code is below: public class MySessionListener implements HttpSessionListener{ @Resource ISessionEvent sessionEvent; public ISessionEvent getSessionEvent() { return sessionEvent; } public void setSessionEvent(ISessionEvent sessionEvent) { this.sessionEvent = sessionEvent; } @Override public void sessionCreated(HttpSessionEvent arg0) { sessionEvent.SessionCreated(arg0.getSession()); } @Override public void sessionDestroyed(HttpSessionEvent arg0) { sessionEvent.SessionDestroyed(arg0.getSession()); } } When user implement ISessionEvent and add as a bean, SessionCreated and SessionDestroyed functions of implementation will be called when these events occured. You can ask why dont you just write inside listeners methods, i dont i'm just trying. When i try the code above i got the following error message: javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: Name com.mehmet6parmak.sessionlistener.MySessionListener is not bound in this Context at org.apache.naming.NamingContext.lookup(NamingContext.java:770) at org.apache.naming.NamingContext.lookup(NamingContext.java:153) at org.apache.catalina.util.DefaultAnnotationProcessor.lookupFieldResource(DefaultAnnotationProcessor.java:278) at org.apache.catalina.util.DefaultAnnotationProcessor.processAnnotations(DefaultAnnotationProcessor.java:187) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext.listenerStart(StandardContext.java:4082) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext.start(StandardContext.java:4630) at org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase.start(ContainerBase.java:1045) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardHost.start(StandardHost.java:785) at org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase.start(ContainerBase.java:1045) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardEngine.start(StandardEngine.java:445) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardService.start(StandardService.java:519) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardServer.start(StandardServer.java:710) at org.apache.catalina.startup.Catalina.start(Catalina.java:581) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:39) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:25) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:597) at org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap.start(Bootstrap.java:289) at org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap.main(Bootstrap.java:414) Resource annotation causes the error but i could not resolve it. • JAXB does not call setter when unmarshalling objects

    - by Yaneeve
    Hi all, I am using JAXB 2.0 JDK 6 in order to unmarshall an XML instance into POJOs. In order to add some custom validation I have inserted a validation call into the setter of a property, yet despite it being private, it seems that the unmarshaller does not call the setter but directly modifies the private field. It is crucial to me that the custom validation occurs for this specific field every unmarshall call. What should I do? Code: @XmlAccessorType(XmlAccessType.FIELD) @XmlType(name = "LegalParams", propOrder = { "value" }) public class LegalParams { private static final Logger LOG = Logger.getLogger(LegalParams.class); @XmlTransient private LegalParamsValidator legalParamValidator; public LegalParams() { try { WebApplicationContext webApplicationContext = ContextLoader.getCurrentWebApplicationContext(); LegalParamsFactory legalParamsFactory = (LegalParamsFactory) webApplicationContext.getBean("legalParamsFactory"); HttpSession httpSession = SessionHolder.getInstance().get(); legalParamValidator = legalParamsFactory.newLegalParamsValidator(httpSession); } catch (LegalParamsException lpe) { LOG.warn("Validator related error occurred while attempting to construct a new instance of LegalParams"); throw new IllegalStateException("LegalParams creation failure", lpe); } catch (Exception e) { LOG.warn("Spring related error occurred while attempting to construct a new instance of LegalParams"); throw new IllegalStateException("LegalParams creation failure", e); } } @XmlValue private String value; /** * Gets the value of the value property. * * @return * possible object is * {@link String } * */ public String getValue() { return value; } /** * Sets the value of the value property. * * @param value * allowed object is * {@link String } * @throws TestCaseValidationException * */ public void setValue(String value) throws TestCaseValidationException { legalParamValidator.assertValid(value); this.value = value; } }

  • How to deal with a Java serialized object whose package changed?

    - by Alex
I have a Java class that is stored in an HttpSession object that's serialized and transfered between servers in a cluster environment. For the purpose of this explanation, lets call this class "Person". While in the process of improving the code, this class was moved from "com.acme.Person" to "com.acme.entity.Person". Internally, the class remains exactly the same (same fields, same methods, same everything). The problem is that we have two sets of servers running the old code and the new code at the same time. The servers with the old code have serialized HttpSession object and when the new code unserializes it, it throws a ClassNotFoundException because it can't find the old reference to com.acme.Person. At this point, it's easy to deal with this because we can just recreate the object using the new package. The problem then becomes that the HttpSession in the new servers, will serialize the object with the new reference to com.acme.entity.Person, and when this is unserialized in the servers running the old code, another exception will be thrown. At this point, we can't deal with this exception anymore. What's the best strategy to follow for this kind of cases? Is there a way to tell the new servers to serialize the object with the reference to the old package and unserialize references to the old package to the new one? How would we transition to using the new package and forgetting about the old one once all servers run the new code?

  • Business Tier | client state in desktop application- way around Stateful Session Beans?

    - by arthur
I read positive inputs on the following posts concerning client state management: Stateful EJBs in web application?, here, and here. I want to know how implement such client state management for desktop applications (Swing, AWT, SWT, and other). let's assume there are n desktop clients supposed to use some (remote) services provided on an Application Server. How to maintain a separate and permanent data state for each client , distinct from the other without have to use using stateful session Beans (SFSB) ? is that even possible on this application type ? With Webapp(Servlets / JsSF and JSP) some can avoid using SFSB by HttpSession object and/or coupling it with stateless session beans (SLSB). HttpSession object would keep information for each (Web)client separate and the SLSB would play the business logic music. But HttpSession objects aren't present on desktop application and I go stuck with only SFSB and SLSB. Knowing the problems(Concurrency, Error Handling, usw ) of SFSB, I would have not wanted to use it. What would be the other options? is there only SFSB available? Thanks in advances

  • Accessing the JSESSIONID from JSF

    - by Frank Nimphius
The following code attempts to access and print the user session ID from ADF Faces, using the session cookie that is automatically set by the server and the Http Session object itself. FacesContext fctx = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance(); ExternalContext ectx = fctx.getExternalContext(); HttpSession session = (HttpSession) ectx.getSession(false); String sessionId = session.getId(); System.out.println("Session Id = "+ sessionId); Cookie[] cookies = ((HttpServletRequest)ectx.getRequest()).getCookies(); //reset session string sessionId = null; if (cookies != null) { for (Cookie brezel : cookies) {     if (brezel.getName().equalsIgnoreCase("JSESSIONID")) {        sessionId = brezel.getValue();        break;      }   } } System.out.println("JSESSIONID cookie = "+sessionId); Though apparently both approaches to the same thing, they are different in the value they return and the condition under which they work. The getId method, for example returns a session value as shown below grLFTNzJhhnQTqVwxHMGl0WDZPGhZFl2m0JS5SyYVmZqvrfghFxy!-1834097692!1322120041091 Reading the cookie, returns a value like this grLFTNzJhhnQTqVwxHMGl0WDZPGhZFl2m0JS5SyYVmZqvrfghFxy!-1834097692 Though both seem to be identical, the difference is within "!1322120041091" added to the id when reading it directly from the Http Session object. Dependent on the use case the session Id is looked up for, the difference may not be important. Another difference however, is of importance. The cookie reading only works if the session Id is added as a cookie to the request, which is configurable for applications in the weblogic-application.xml file. If cookies are disabled, then the server adds the session ID to the request URL (actually it appends it to the end of the URI, so right after the view Id reference). In this case however no cookie is set so that the lookup returns empty. In both cases however, the getId variant works.

  • CDI SessionScoped Bean results in two instances in same session

    - by Ryan
I've got two instances of a SessionScoped CDI bean for the same session. I was under the impression that there would be one instance generated for me by CDI, but it generated two. Am I misunderstanding how CDI works, or did I find a bug? Here is the bean code: package org.mycompany.myproject.session; import java.io.Serializable; import javax.enterprise.context.SessionScoped; import javax.faces.context.FacesContext; import javax.inject.Named; import javax.servlet.http.HttpSession; @Named @SessionScoped public class MyBean implements Serializable { private String myField = null; public MyBean() { System.out.println("MyBean constructor called"); FacesContext fc = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance(); HttpSession session = (HttpSession)fc.getExternalContext().getSession(false); String sessionId = session.getId(); System.out.println("Session ID: " + sessionId); } public String getMyField() { return myField; } public void setMyField(String myField) { this.myField = myField; } } Here is the Facelet code: <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' ?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core"> <f:view contentType="text/html" encoding="UTF-8"> <h:head> <title>Test</title> </h:head> <h:body> <h:form id="form"> <h:inputText value="#{myBean.myField}"/> <h:commandButton value="Submit"/> </h:form> </h:body> </f:view> </html> Here is the output from deployment and navigating to page: INFO: Loading application org.mycompany_myproject_war_1.0-SNAPSHOT at /myproject INFO: org.mycompany_myproject_war_1.0-SNAPSHOT was successfully deployed in 8,237 milliseconds.
