  • Issue with gpg agent in Ubuntu 12.04 after installing gnome3 shell

    I just did a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04. Initially things were working. But after I installed some software, the 'gpg agent' is unresponsive. I suspect it has something to do with upgrades that I downloaded from the gnome 3 ppa. When I try to sign a package, it terminates with: gpg: problem with the agent - disabling agent use debsign: gpg error occurred! Aborting.... debuild: fatal error at line 1271: running debsign failed The GPG gui tool (called "Passwords and Keys" or seahorse) isn't starting anymore either. When I click it, it tries to start and then gives up and dies after a couple of seconds. I am not sure where to look for log files of gpg agent. The only thing that I see in /var/log is in auth.log that says: May 1 20:04:14 jeroen-ubuntu gnome-keyring-daemon[1997]: couldn't create prompt for gnupg passphrase: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.keyring.SystemPrompter was not provided by any .service files Not sure if it is related, but when I try to start seahorse from the command line, I get: jeroen@jeroen-ubuntu:~$ seahorse (seahorse:4828): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: Settings schema 'org.gnome.crypto.pgp' is not installed Edit: I fixed the seahorse GUI by manually downloading and reinstalling gnome-keyring version from precise instead of the ppa. However, I still cannot sign packages.

  • In MVC, why can't a model create a view?

    I have a web application written in Perl with a controller, some "views" and some "Models". Each "Model" is corresponding to one "View". The controller (one file) creates an Model object corresponding to each view (view is a CGI argument) then retrieve the view from the module it has just created. Indeed, this should be bad thing but can you argue a bit more about it. My first idea was that since the object "Model" depends upon the "view", then the "model" is actually a view. But also the fact that ALL the cgi parameters are passed to the Model causes the "Model" to become not truelly a view but to loose all interest, since it is only related to the current implementation of the web apps. On other words, that the "Model" keep model but loose its "comprehensiveness" ("Model" is not easily understandable). I'm am quite new in project analysis, so please do not be too harsh. Why is this bad? Any domain account that logs on to my 2008 machine gets a +- 20 second waiting time on "user profile service" I am using roaming profiles, they are around 8mb in size, and most folders are already redirected to a network share. event log registers no errors, there is more than 1 network card installed, but I have the correct card listed as "primary" Is there any way to increase verbosity of logging on specifically the "user profile service" ?   • Windows 7: how to let AutoConfigURL change be effective immediately?

    I want to set both the script and the "Use automatic configuration script" checkbox in Windows 7 using a script that immediately affects anything using wininet.dll (Internet Explorer, Chrome, .NET apps, etc). I've done a before/after registry diff, and tried doing this through the registry, but things like the reg files below require the apps to be restarted. Chaning the settings by pressing the "LAN Settings" button through this Control panel shortcut has immediate affect: %windir%\system32\control.exe Inetcpl.cpl,,4 How can I script this immediate effect?   • Windows 2008 RemoteAPP client disconnects within a matter of minutes

    I'm having an odd problem with Windows 2008 TS, and remote applications specifically. The situation is as follows: TS idle timeout is disabled via GPO TS terminating disconnected sessions after 1hr (via GPO) My users can log on to the Terminal server, and get a full desktop, OR via rdp files that give access to a few remote applications. When a user connects to a full desktop, everything is fine and dandy, they will remain logged on indefinately, and when they disconnect the session is terminated after an hour. however, when a user connects using a remote application link, the client seems to disconnect after only a few minutes of inactivity, when you click the window, the session reconnects. EventID's on TS server: 4779: This event is generated when a user disconnects from an existing Terminal Services session, or when a user switches away from an existing destop using Fast User Switching. 4778 : This event is generated when a user reconnects to an existing Terminal Services session, or when a user switches to an existing desktop using Fast User Switching users are connecting directly to 3389, not using a TS-gateway at the moment. This behavior is consistent on different clients that we have, Full desktop is fine, RemoteAPP constantly disconnects. The .rdp file used doesn't list any interesting parameters, aside from what application to launch, and where to find it. Can someone explain to me how there can be a difference in behaviour between full desktop, and remoteapp ? since essentially they use the exact same client ? Regards Jeroen

  • SQL Server 2005 Express: upgrading to SP3 in mixed-mode installations

    I'm having trouble upgrading SQL Server 2005 Express SP1 to SP3. The SP1 install uses mixed mode authentication (so there is an sa password). This is the message I get: TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Setup ------------------------------ None of the selected features can be installed or upgraded. I tried some searching, and found something about BPAClient.dll, but this batch-file does not fix it: mkdir "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\BPA\BPAClient" copy "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\BPA\bin\BPAClient.dll" "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\BPA\BPAClient\" So I think the clue is the strong in the link above.   • How to calculate short & long distance via Haversine?

    Hi, I am looking for a way to calculate the distance between 2 points on the globe. We've been told to use Haversine, which works fine to calculate the shortest distance between the 2 points. Now, I'd like to calculate the "long distance" between to points. So suppose you have 2 cities, A in the west and B in the east. I want to know the distance from B to A if I would travel eastwards around the globe and then reach A coming from the west. I've tried changing a couple of things in the haversine function, but doesn't seem to work. Anyone know how I can simply do this using small adjustments to the haversine function? This is what I'm using now: lat1, lat2, lng1, lng2 are in radians part1 = sin(lat2) * sin(lat1); part2 = cos(lat2) * cos(lat1) * cos(lng1 - lng2); distance = EARTH_RADIUS * acos(part1 + part2); Tnx Jeroen

  • Algorithm shortest path between all points

    Hi, suppose I have 10 points. I know the distance between each point. I need to find the shortest possible route passing trough all points. I have tried a couple of algorithms (Dijkstra, Floyd Warshall,...) and the all give me the shortest path between start and end, but they don't make a route with all points on it. Permutations work fine, but they are to resource expensive. What algorithms can you advise me to look into for this problem? Or is there a documented way to do this with the above mentioned algorithms? Tnx Jeroen

    Hi All, I really would like to know how i can set my application 'Cognos8' as startpage when just typing the host name of the server. When i now type my hostname 'http://myhost' i get the iistart.htm page instead i would like to be able to get 'http://myhost/Cognos8'. tried http redirect to redirect myhost to myhost/cognos8 which ends in a loop. i tried to set the physical path of default web site to the physical path of my Cognos8 application but also this does not seem to work. i know this should not to hard.   • Wpf vs WinForms for a vb programmer? [closed]

    I am asked by a client to develop an application that is basically a screen on which the user can choose several items to pass the time (used in holding cells in mental hospitals for example). The baisc idea is as follows: TV (choosing this will provide the user with a number of TV streams from the interweb) Radio (...) Games (serveral flash games, also from the interweb) Music (play local music or streams) Draw something (not the game) Create an email Choose lighting settings for the room etc. etc. I am torn between WinForms and WPF for this project. It seems that WPF is the way to go since there is quite a bit of rich media involved but I have a 15 year VB background. The project obviously has a dead line and certain budget that I cannot cross and if I can avoid starting from scratch with some thing that will be nice. Is WPF worth it in this particular case or can I use WinForms with the incorperation of WPF controls? I would very much like to hear your thoughts/comments/suggestions!

  • Mount external hdd in fluxbox ubuntu -12.04 commandline install

    I did the following: Install command line interface with ubuntu alternate install 12.04 in vmwareplayer5(9.2.2) After the base system was installed: sudo apt-get update, upgrade and dist-upgrade, sudo apt-get install xinit xorg fluxbox build-essential lxterminal gksu leafpad pcmanfm mc chromium-browser, this works. I also installed vmwaretools. My problem is being unable to mount any usb hdd or thumb drives. I'm new at building fluxbox so any help would be much appreciated!

  • Practical considerations for HTML / CSS naming conventions (syntax)

    Question: what are the practical considerations for the syntax in class and id values? Note that I'm not asking about the semantics, i.e. the actual words that are being used, as for example described in this blogpost. There are a lot of resources on that side of naming conventions already, in fact obscuring my search for practical information on the various syntactical bits: casing, use of interpunction (specifically the - dash), specific characters to use or avoid, etc. To sum up the reasons I'm asking this question: The naming restrictions on id and class don't naturally lead to any conventions The abundance of resources on the semantic side of naming conventions obscure searches on the syntactic considerations I couldn't find any authorative source on this There wasn't any question on SE Programmers yet on this topic :) Some of the conventions I've considered using: UpperCamelCase, mainly as a cross-over habit from server side coding lowerCamelCase, for consistency with JavaScript naming conventions css-style-classes, which is consistent with naming of css properties (but can be annoying when Ctrl+Shift+ArrowKey selection of text) with_under_scores, which I personally haven't seen used much alllowercase, simple to remember but can be hard to read for longer names UPPERCASEFTW, as a great way to annoy your fellow programmers (perhaps combined with option 4 for readability) And probably I've left out some important options or combinations as well. So: what considerations are there for naming conventions, and to which convention do they lead?
